    An argument could be made that the only difference is in the effectiveness of the Marketing. With $600,000,000 I am pretty sure that even Walsh could have made "progress" over the last decade similar to what Roberts has made.

    I have said it before and I will say it again,  Sandi is the MVP of the Cloud Imperium Games company.  She, more than anyone else, has earned every penny of her salary.

    Except Walsh failed miserably and thus fell on the scam side of things and it was pretty obvious from the start that was going to happen when he first came to this forum and we asked him some pointed questions and he got douchey with us.  

    Same thing can be said with Revival when they basically told us they didn't want poor scrubs playing their game as they were not the target audience.

    You can argue that all you want but until SC "actually fails" with the end result of there being no game you are falling more on the hater side with your argument cause it's unfounded right now.

    You can be skeptical and not like how it's being managed but you have zero argument when it comes to that fact it has progressed and there is actually a product you can play..unless you want to argue the game peeps log in and play routinely are all imagining things.

    Like I said a far, far cry from revival and chronicles.

    If SC fails then your argument might have merit till then it really doesn't and it's more pissing and moaning cause peeps don't like the feature creep and management of it all or outright hating.

    No one is denying what they are trying to do is highly ambitious and and such failure may very well happen but it hasn't yet.

    My biggest gripe is all the ships they are selling and how long it is taking as at this rate I will have died of old age before it releases. I am mainly waiting for SQ42.

    However if it gets the game done and released at some point......might make other similar games look amateur hour, empty and maybe force other bigger  companies to get there shit together and offer us something similar...

    If it does get released and is anywhere half decent lots of meme folks are gonna have to eat crow I think ..lol

    Stealing ships is already a thing, boarding, hiding inside other peoples ships, hijcaking, extortion, activating the self-destruct timer and bailing etc etc

    You can already give ships/items to other players  through the game's website "gift" feature.

    Yes, you lose upgraded components if your ship blows up.

    But thanks to the timer, someone with just one suitable ship has to stop whatever he was doing and wait. Whereas someone with second suitable ship ready for action can jump right in and continue. The death penalty is on a completely different scale unless you've got multiple insured ships suitable for whatever you were doing.


    Every vehicle can be flown by anyone, but even if you fly someone else's vehicle it's still bound to its owner and the owner will eventually get it back. The non-owner can only keep it for a short while, but has no means to keep it permanently even if he manages to fly it.

    It's different from usual BoP system, but the ship is bound to you.

    I think it's a wise system and I don't mean to criticize it. It wouldn't really work if those ships weren't bound.

    Not at all, you might not have a capable ship but you can still go there in any other ship. Or you can rent a ship for 1 day for cheap or just leave it for another day and caught said player in a situation when he's more vunerable (on foot).

    Besides, the Jump right in and continue is not like you're respawning in Arathi Bassin and jumping back to the action in a couple of seconds. Since death has more consequences and it can take quite a bit more time and planning to go back to battle in a open universe scenario.

    And there's the rub for any game in development, we just don't know how much it will change. What Babuinix has said in the last couple of posts is reassuring, but we simply won't know till launch.

    I'd say even after launch, MMO's and most live service games are bound to change a lot after release. Just remember all the changes WoW classes and mechanics have gotten along the years or how blizzard upgraded the network infrastructure to support sharding etc

    Insurance on ships? Yea, it works in Elite Dangerous; legitimately. Here we have where your $45K ship blows up because it bugged out while trying to land, legitimately. :D

    The scam is that despite the kickstarter claims, they have zero intention of ever releasing a game.  They make money hand over fist by feature creeping endlessly and making yearly pretty videos.

    Releasing a game as originally outlined is not a goal AT ALL.  Milking people for money year after year is.  and if they somehow manage to get the first of its kind server meshing working it could become a massive moneymaker as well in licensing.  and if they can't they can keep pretending to make progress until they stop getting funded.

    Interesting fun fact, back in 2018 this package cost $27K, so the current price reflects the additional "value" of the many new ships added to it since then. (Plus a little something for inflation most likely.)

    Will be interesting to see where it tops out at before the game finally launches.

    $75K or even more is not unreasonable considering it's probably not launching in anything less than 5 years or so.

    Well the interplay between those two genres is a storied one that goes so far back, in gaming too. Think of Anarchy Online for example, it started as very SF and ended up with a big dollop of fantasy.

    I don't frequent this site as much as I used to. I suppose mainly because I haven't really played any mmos in a few years. I still enjoy visiting from time to time. Every single time there is some discussion about this game. Still promising to launch(lol). Of course there are always some who will defend this no matter what. It's definitely comedy gold.

    What kinds of games do you play now? Would you play this or Squadron 42? For me it's unlikely as I've grown tired of the deluge of persistent monetization and cash shop/loot crate shenanigans in GAAS games.

    I mostly play single player games and short lived multiplayer games like Diablo 4. I can't seem to be able to get into any of the available mmos. I'll occasionally play ESO or the new WoW expansions. I never last more than a few game sessions though. I suppose the genre hasn't really progressed and offered anything new in the past decade. Nothing in the mmo genre excites me like it used to. I can't even think of a traditional mmo in the works I care about at all. I 

    As far as this game. If it comes out at some point, I might try it out. I don't really follow it because I have no interest in waiting decades for a game to launch haha. So I suppose we'll see if we ever see a full game.
