EQ2 is still running and got DLC this year, not sure if that dlc was a proper expansion mind you.
Shh, stop publishing facts, you are ruining their narrative.

Fine, if we're being pedantic it's alive much in the same way Christopher Reeve was alive. You sure did show me.

It's alive in the sense that it is still remains viable to operate commercially and get expansions regularly after all these years. That is more than can be said of many MMORPGs that have come and gone since it was released.
The census from over a year ago listed 23k active subscribers (this does not discern between people who bought the Daybreak subscription bundle for other games like DCUO or EQ) and account for 9% of the total. There are 63,000 recipes in EQ2 currently and over 20k recipe books. I'm not sure what threshold you might consider commercially operable, and while the lights may be on, hardly anybody's home. That's still 20k more players than Pantheon.

It doesn't matter what threshold I consider commercially viable in regard to EQ2 as I'm not the one making that call. Daybreak clearly feels so as they continue to develop the game rather than put it in maintenance mode or shut it down. Since they are the ones with full access to the data that would determine the prudence of such, I'll take their conduct as evidence that doing so is profitable enough to satisfy them.
If it doesn't matter to you, then don't use it as an arguing point.

Since alpha means that not all systems are in place let alone textures, meshes, etc I’ll disagree with your mob assessment.

As far as time and money yielding what they have now; they did restart several times and suspect that their management of resources did not benefit from working on it part time, changing employees with varying skill levels/experience etc.

Also after all this time I’ve never seen anyone say it’s brilliant.or a masterpiece. I think you’re mistaking enthusiasm and excitement for that.
We're past the point of alpha being an excuse for design decisions like inventory room. Far beyond it, especially with this one.

adding time and the game is in alpha.

When you judge the game you can only judge it as a game in alpha. When you judge the time it took you judge the management.

    you're confused.

10 years with multiple restarts and they were only able to bring the game to alpha.

limited inventory is a design decision. Some actually do like adversity in their games even if it isn't, in the moment, fun. What's fun is tackling that adversity. This is just a taste thing and while some complain about design decisions they don't like that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense to others.

That's a good point, there very well might be additions to deal with inventory space. For example, Daggerfall allows for a cart to expand inventory. One can go to the surface and drop their stuff off and then go back in.

Heck, they very well might allow for an npc that you pay to bring your stuff back to storage. I doubt the game will go this route but there are ways for them to have players manage inventory.

WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO WAIT IF EVERYONE KNOWS IT'S BAD DESIGN? IF PEOPLE HAVE KNOWN FOR MULTIPLE YEARS? WHY? WHAT IS THE LOGIC?

You can keep DEFENDING it but you can't explain WHY it isn't already in considering PEOPLE HAVE STATED FOR YEARS THAT IT'S AN ISSUE. THEY CAN FIGURE IT OUT BEFORE RELEASE.

Some person on here was going off about limited inventory and like others have said, it can be part of the design. I mean look at something as massive (but not MMO) as the Monster Hunter series. That game would be a joke if you could bring your entire inventory in with you. Anyone thinking about that all these years later would say that unbelievably stupid. Adversity and risk vs reward is part of the game. Convenient is good, to a degree. Without some holdbacks, games just would be games, they would be instant win screens

Unfortunately for hoarders like me most MMORPGs make managing inventory and bag space part of their core gameplay loops.

Yet, some games are worse than others and of course these days several games offer a "solution" in their cash shop for only $14.99 a month. :)

Paying for storage in a video game reminds me of my brother-in-law, who at one point bought a brand-new washer and dryer on credit, lost his house, and then had to pay for storage of the washer and dryer - while still making monthly payments on them.

The storage in a video game problem can be fixed by paying $14.99 or simply doing what crusty people like us do - fix two problems with one uninstall.

One of my biggest problems in FO76 was always not enough inventory space.....As the game grew to be more and more massive, and inventory space became less and less, finally just said forget it and moved on.
Definitely a game you must subscribe for the unlimited crafting storage which I know you are loath to do

Exactly and very well said. I'm not saying (and I bet no one else is saying this) that a person has to be tortured every step of the way but having to make decisions, dealing with "adversity and risk vs reward," as you say, is part of making these games interesting.

A friend of mine plays skyrim using the survival mode. He doesn't like the limited inventory it makes you deal with but he understands the need for it. I've offered to make him a small mod to either remove it or increase the carry weight to whatever he wants but he likes the adversity so he has said no.

If this type of game play isn't to someone's likeing that's great. But others do like it or at least see the need for it.

Why do you think you speak for everyone? I have never said it was bad design and I have never stated it was an issue. I'm fairly certain that there are others who are of the same mind.

As I've already stated, a friend of my plays along with Skyrim's Survival mode limited inventory not because it gives him the giggles but that it makes the whole thing, the whole survival experience, make sense.

Folks have very different likes and dislikes.   Some people, for instance,  like self-flagellation but it's not my thing.  Some people like twitch combat.  Some like tab target.  Some like PvP.  Some hate it.  Some people like limited inventory space, some hate it, some are neutral.  At the end of the day not every game needs to be for every player.

I'm not going to convince someone they don't actually like something they actually like...  if I was going to do that then I would go into politics.

To me, Pantheon just utterly failed to deliver on "the vision".  It's not in any way what I hoped for when I backed the Kickstarter.  When I say there was NOTHING I enjoyed in my playtest time, I mean there was NOTHING that drew me in. At all.  It really and truly reminded me of Pathfinder Online far more than Vanguard.

THAT said, if others do in fact find some part of "the vision" when they play the game, or maybe never really saw "the vision" in the first place... more power to them.  I am not going to try and convince someone that likes the game that they do not in fact like it.

Who knows, maybe if by some miracle the game survives for a few years I'll take another look at it and maybe even see some signs of "the vision"...

For now though... hard pass for me.

I absolutely agree, at this point that vision isn't apparent and it's sort of a poor man's everquest. I do have the desire to log in and do some farting around but I've yet to discover that thing that makes me want to do hours.

I suspect that I'll need to do grouping in order to get that done. I certainly hope they can continue the work and we'll see that final vision, or at least a version of that vision.

Repeat "It's the EQ2 we were looking for the whole time!" until it dies just like the real EQ2.
EQ2 is still running and got DLC this year, not sure if that dlc was a proper expansion mind you.
Shh, stop publishing facts, you are ruining their narrative.

    ;)

You mind your posts and I'll mind mine. I don't need or want your advice.
