Thousands Leaving WoW

I am just about to join the many thousands of people leaving WoW, because of the complete cock up that is Patch 1.11(not being able to install it on PCs (corrupted files) and having NO decent technical support to help people).

So I am looking for another MMO.

I used to really like WoW and have (had) two accounts, so want something similar, but I want something that is PvE with hardly any PvP as we prefer to take it at our own pace and not have to worry about gankings, etc...

Can any players that enjoy WoW PvE recommend another MMORPG type game that they think we will enjoy.

Thanks in advance

im a wow whore so no idea really but i think everquest 2 doesnt haav any pvp yet unless they have added it

I agree with Turbo, if you've yet to try EQ2, I would highly suggest giving it a shot. It's a solid game with very good PVE (at least I think so) and PVP servers if you want to go that road. Lot's of different classes, races, very good character creation especially compared to WoW and although the leveling can take a while, it's a decent amount of fun.

Other games I'd suggest that are at least worth a try, Saga of Ryzom is a gem of a game but can be a bit of a bore after some time, much better if you have someone with you to play often and the community is wonderful, there's a free trial so it's easy to find out whether it's for you or not.

CoV isn't a bad game if your into that sort of thing.

DoAC is probably, IHMO, one of the best options out there at the moment, although it's a deffanitely a bit dated now.

Lineage2 is fun so long as you have the patients to deal with glarring faults, namely a long grind, currency sellers out the wazoo, pk'ers and sketchy community.

Wherever you end up, best of luck to you.

Dude quite telling people thousands of people are leaving. Not only is that exaggrating numbers, but it negative advertising. Every patch thousands of players leave, but thousands more take your and everyone elses places. And having players leave by the thousands is minor since this game has over 6 million players.

Actually, he or she is not exagerating the truth at all. Check out the article and server numbers at http://www.warcraftrealms.com/ or any of the number of WoW fan sites. Pretty much info all over the place about the population drop. Cept mmorpg.com of course.

But anyways, it's really not that big a deal though. No one knows whether it has anything to do with the patch, which is unlikely but you never do know for sure. Most people are just accepting it as a normal summer dip mixed in with a natural recession of numbers with a game that's well over a year old.

Look at the timing for the expansion, do you think that's just a random timeline and date they pulled out of their butts? Don't be that silly, it's all done for a reason.

Funny, looking at the numbers on that site place the population of the American servers at roughly the same point they were last year at the same date.

Is that why there are new servers every couple of weeks ?
  • OneMuslimOneMuslim Member Posts: 426

    Go for COV/COH.

DAoC, you hardly see anyone playing anymore, don't recommend it, although the changes are realy nice, but it's too late now.

EVE online has a nice PVE to it, you can do trading, or just missioning/rat hunting, but i don't recommend it for a sole PVEer.

Diablo 2 has a realy nice PVE for it too ;p

I can tell you that CC newbie areas are a ghost town for both sides.

Yeah, all those PVP servers that people continually whine about wanting because they don't want to have to play on a server with folks higher than them.

Almost everysingle LOW population server is a PVP server.

Besides, since we have no idea how many players are on a server at one time that is a meaningless value.

It's to bad game companies are so worried that they don't publish/show population lists anymore.

Well its an ancient mmorpg trick to keep ppl going.A game so gear oriented as wow many ppl feel they missed the boat on their server and can never get enough dkp to even buy one epic.

So once a new server opens it has a flood of ppl who otherwise would bore very quickly go make a new char and hope to get in a guild with fresh dkp.Even if this players miss the boat again they had gotten 3-4 months off them rather then lose them in a month.

I seen this trick used in EQ1 before. The fact that wow has servers on low population shows there really is no reason population wise to require new servers.

But fact is it will take a lot to bring WoW down from 6m account espically in asia where players are very loyal to their games and since more then half the players are in asia i think blizzard has little to worry about anytime soon.

yanw... another flamer fanboy... alomst as bad as the farmers in wow...

the population in many servers has jumped to be honest.. in muradin.. it was cricket city for the 1st 3 weeks.. now its a pian the raer..
same with other servers.. population in variousservers are high ...

hell i can screenshot everyserver in the if sw.. and ogrim areas..

but that would be pointless.. since you really dont have a clue about warcraft...

so go eq it.. that game bored me to hell and some.. i i think your confusing the patch pepole jump shiP with apthetic dying creature called  SWG...

Where did that last guy learn how to type man?  Spellchecker and space bar are good things.  All I gots say is that it would take about 6000 more of these patches to kill the entire WoW population.  I don't think Blizzard is shaking in their shoes just yet.  With an expansion pack coming and new content that will drive the stake in further.  I can't wait though to see the MMO that takes the crown of WoW!!!

The one huge flaw that they are making with the expansion is that they are concerned about adding races when they should add more classes.

Having two different races isn't going to effect much (other than the racial spells). Classes would have made more sense to add.

True.I think ppl in wow are easy to please.Whats the big deal over a new race."oh it looks different but plays exacting same as the other guy i had"

AT least they could have added a new class.Yes it will be hugely popular at first but happens in all mmorpg when you make a new class -EQ1 beastlord,DAoC necro. But eventually it settles down and ppl go back to their class when they see the new class is not for them.

There is loads of possibilties for WoW to choose from-for instance there is no bard,no real mezzer class etc.

    1. OP at rate are these thousands leaving? Thousands per day?, per week? per month? At this point the rate at which people leave is more important then an actual number  if it were thousands per day or week blizz might have a problem, if its thousands per month is not a problem as long as you bring that many per month.

    2. I  think just having new races in the exp and not classes will hurt WoW. After 2 years we will be playing the same nine classes while newer games have 2-3 times that much starting out. This leads to boredom among players as many have tasted all the limit variation WoW has to over. I think the announcement on no hero classes and the comment that sounded like the were considering a EQ AA type style of character advancement while hurt them badly over the next with newer games offering alot more in terms of class variety.  I also think that part of the problem is that with exception of paladins/shamans the alliance/horde class makeup are mirror images of another, where in ther RTS they have different units for each side. I think when the difference between 2 sides of a "conflict" is asethics not substance, it is easy for some types of players to lose interest quickly.

    3. I honestly believe that Warhammer online will knock some wind of out WoW. The reason being is that like WoW it will have an already established playerbase b/c Warhammer is a popular IP with games, books etc that has a 20+ history.  WoW is a good fun game (1-59 anyway) that is easy to pick and learn as opposed to other MMORPGs, but is not a revolutionary game by any means. But if the warcraft RTS series never existed or sucked this game would be no near was popular as it is now. I dont presume to speak for anyone else but, the only reason I used to play WoW was cause i loved Warcraft 2 and 3 (and thier expansions), I never considered playing an mmorpg till I heard about WoW. I think this is the case for quite a few WoW players especially the more casual players.  The Warhammer 40K Dawn of War series is every good, and has probably gotten people who never played the table top games interested in the franchise. If the Warhammer Fantasy Mark of Chaos RTS game coming out becomes popular and successful, (and it looks like a very good possiblity) then WAR will have a solid pc playerbase that knows about the setting when it launches.

Well when you look at WoW's subscriber base its safe to say that thousands are leaving but Thousands more are coming in at least in the states but Thats something that Vivendi Universal has noticed which is why the Expansion was delayed to try and fix the problem that WoW is havng with Member retention rates. The expansion was supposed to come out this summer but was delayed to try and address the issues betwen the 5% raider population and everyone else who leaves once they get stuck at 60 for awhile.

    K....

Umm.. all you got to do is log into the game to get the patch downloaded.

Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Sure did and the op is an idiot. The patch is a trivial item and caused no problems on any of my machines including my laptop which I am on right now.

Too bad that the OP can't do a simple download/patch, maybe SOE is better for him to whine off to with all the other plastic barbie lovers.

As to the "fan sites" numbers, they have no clue and are nothing more then urban legend numbers made up by some hatebois. There are actual number available if you look but since most of you are WoW haters you would of course ignore the facts.

And you're a fanboi. Thats the Circle of Life. Boohoo.. Blah blah blah. Get over it. Fanbois ignore the facts just like haters do. If you don't beleave me name a flaw in WoW? What you can't? Cause you can't see? Exactly. We can all call eachother fanbois and haters, but you people really need to get over yourselves. I'm sorry, but blizztorent isn't a good downloading system. Infact they said they were going to change it on release, but never did.

Let's say for a second that 3000 leave World of Warcraft. ©

Ask yourself this: what incentive is there for them to return 2 months later?

Your PvP ranking will go down, your DKP will be reset to zero or you'll be kicked from guild (okay not really a Blizz issue). Still it's not all that bad, there is no house to pay for; that's like saying a homeless guy is happy because he doesn't pay taxes. You neither lose nor gain money, items, skills, levels.

When you do get back however there's 200mb in patches to download, your favourite farming spot doesn't exist anymore or is overrun with pro farmers, the new instances that the patch loaded requires some anal quest that'll take 1 months casual play to get access to...and...

Your alt character on another server has mysteriously been nerfed on further investigation reading paragraph 203 line 8 of the patch notes you discover that your main attack, your bread and butter ultra-totem-strike-of-doom has a 20% reduction all because you chose a 'slightly different' talent template just to try and stand out from the other classes, with 8 classes your bound to meet someone with the same class as you :p. Oh and you know the 100 hours you spent getting enough reputation to get that item, well it was a waste of time because it was 'normalise' and AQ has a much better one provided you can press buttons in the right order in your "uber" guild.

Are there any Über guilds in WoW? Don't be silly it's not a 'proper' mmorpg!

Tongue-in-cheek and pinch-'o' salt required before replying. ::::02::
