Really?
I don't have a corporation (been two years in the newbie corp, and very happy there). I don't use voice communication in EVE at all, even though I have all the gear for it and used it in EQ extensively. I do have a lot of imagination, but I solo the entire time and thus fill any role I desire (good use of the imagination). I don't PVP, ever.
And therein lies the joy of the game. It's more than any single experience.

I stand corrected. Whatever floats your boat.
In any case you have been at risk from time to time, even if only to make it through a pirate gatecamp, whether you were aware there were pirates or not.
Gets a little lonely don't it? Mining alone. Ratting alone. Hauling alone.
I'm not criticising your way of playing, just that the game opened up for me, and maybe it might do the same for you.

So what do you actually do in the game? What kind of activites do you spend your time on, how do you make money, etc?
Today I lost around 4 mil ISK, didnt mind though.. Was in a Badger<Slow transport> moving some things when a pirate decided he wanted my stuff, too bad as soon as he podded me some of my friends showed up to get rid of him! Spent the majority of the day getting my goods back!! Needed a upgrde anyways! Im in a decent corp. I rnjoy my time in the universe of EVE! And PVP is by far the best of anygame I have played. So many strategys/tactics!!
I tried 4 free trials of it doing different things, then finally bought a copy and tried it for a month. I did end up cancelling. Im terribly hard to please when it comes to space games. Eve is not real space physics entirely. I was ruined by games like Independence War series and Babylon 5 where the physics are quite real as opposed to this. This game reminds me of playing the old X-Wing type games, Star Wars universe not so real physics. I thought I could get past that, but I would have liked to get into a skirmish or two at some point, and not having much leaning towards real-space phyics just would not satisfy me. For example, in this game, you always have to have your ship pointed towards which direction you wish to go, that is not at all how my mind works and I find it very limiting.
I wish I wasn't so spoiled with the physics because I really really wanted to like it. It looked neat except for that.
I made about 27 million in trades in eve...surprising that trading where the wind takes you can make a lot of money...badger badger badger badger badger badger mushroom mushroom...
but awhen I got my moa I had nothing to do, I left

how exactly do earth-born space vehicles travel in space? and then how do the travel in an atmosphere?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Many space agencies across the world have great information on this, I wish that was a game designer's first thought in thier research instead of Skywalker Ranch. (Looks at C++ how to book on shelf) Maybe someday....
Originally posted by damian7 how exactly do earth-born space vehicles travel in space? and then how do the travel in an atmosphere?
Actual vehicles in space can turn in place and end up with the nose of the vehicle not pointing in the direction of movement, to turn they'd spin to another angle and thrust there. Ships in EVE or Star Wars move like atmospheric craft, when they change the way the ship faces they change the whole vector of movement. Also, they pitch and yaw like an airplane even though there's no air resistance so no reason to do so to turn. There's also not really a top speed for a spacecraft the way there is for an aircraft or EVEcraft, maximum velocity is just a function of fuel (and reserving enough fuel to decellerate at the end), it's not related to engine thrust vs air resistance. Plus EVE vehicles overall are sloooooow if they're not in warp, only the very fastest ships in EVE equipped with fictional MWDs can get up to the 8 km/sec that the shuttle's orbit requires.
If you like grinding for money instead of exp's, and you enjoy devoting subscription time to get your skills up instead of actual playing time, eve rocks. Otherwise, it's mediocre and simplistic. They say you can do anything, but most of the play styles require 2-3 months of setup to play well.
If you want to solo or hunt bounties, EVE does niether of these things well..

My primary interest in the game is the economy. I am a manufacturer and produce products that generate about 20 million ISK in revenue each day. Economics fascinates me, and EVE has an extremely robust and fairly realistic economic model.
I also spend time running missions and killing NPCs with various ship setups. I've been able to develop skills to fly a very large variety of ships and it's a lot of fun to tinker with setups.
On occasion, I venture into 0.0 space to set up more insta bookmarks. This usually involves me getting whacked, but the thrill of it is a huge rush.

Why, because eve doesn't spoonfeed you?
Bounty hunting in eve is viable and all the tools are there to do it. Is bounty hunting very popular? no
Bounties are set by players on other players, usually someone gains a bounty by pirating. bounties sometimes are seen in the hundreds of millions. When bounties get that high a bounty hunter may try to find the pirate, which involves the use of locater agents. The hardest part is actually hunting the person down, which can be quite troublesome and time consuming.

Stop being an idiot fanboi. Bounty hunting in EVE doesnt work on any level whatsoever, and arguing to the contrary makes you look like an idiot.
I tried eve for a couple of weeks and I personally didn't care for it for a few reasons. However, that being said eve does what the game set out to do very very well. It has a very dynamic economical system inwhich you get to feel like an important cog of. Is it the best game, with the most options of play, no. But, the game doesn't make promises that it doesn't deliver, it doesn't nerph things all the time, it doesn't have a producer that you feel you have to run everything they say through a BS sifter and that makes it the most stable of games if you enjoy the game play.

yes, you are right. EVE doesnt simulate space physics. it simulates underwater physics. kind of strange.
it is because EVE isnt a simulator. it is a strategy/roleplaying game. just like on any regular MMORPG real physics dont work at all. nobody can run forever, or carry 400 pounds, or stay awake for 5 consecutive days. also is not realistic to find a sword inside the body of a wolf. and dont get me started on how realistic magic spells are... or leveling. now your strenght is 60. you kill this ugly troll, and you get one level more and your strenght is now 68
or even death. is it realistis that you die, and then you become a ghost? or even worse, you die and you get back to the last town you visited, with all your personal belongings!!!!! Spiritual Fedex FTW!!!!
bottom line, EVE is not a simulator. it is a roleplaying game just like GW (jumping?), L2, Ryzom or SWG. neither of these games got a specially good physics representation.

Heh! I play EVE all the time<<Fanboi!! Sure you can be a Bounty Hunter!! Only if you find a stupid pirate! But you see thats a problem! Majority of pirates are not stupid! I watched 2 entire corps go after just one pirate in a dreadnaught. The pirate was starport camping. They set up a big trap for him only to find him gone once it was ready!! If you think two corps cant get a pirate, what makes you think a bounty hunter can? There is a reason that pirate has a high bounty! If catching and destroying a good pirate was that easy there would be bounty hunters everywhere! Are Bounty Hunters viable? Sure only if it consists of multiple players all with that one sole purpose! And those players better have at least 2m sps minimal in skills!<time, time> and a shitload of ISK's!! They will lose some assets in the process!
So there ya go!! Argument is settled!
No more stupidity from peeps who are still noobs to the game or dont play the game at all! kk tnks!

This all validates my point. My point is, bounty hunting and solo play are not done well. This is a prime example of what I call "not well done." I am not a fan of organized raids, and this example shows you need an organized raid + a ton of luck and resources, and then you might succeed well enough to break even after the split. It's actuall less fun than raiding in WOW.

I have never tried EVE but I used to play Jumpgate and I loved the econ system and the fact that you could control your ship in a very realistic feeling space physics environment with a joystick. I have found it very hard to try EVE since the interface has no direct control over your ship like with a joystick. If EVE had that feature I'm sure I'd be playing it.
Try Jumpgate if you really like to be in control ala Wing Commander. If there were just more people that would play Jumpgate the game would be hard to turn off.

Solo play is done fine, you just have to be smart. The fact that bounty hunting doesnt work at all doesnt mean anything with reguards to solo play - in fact, if you'll look at that story, the solo pirate outwitted all of the incompetent noobs who were trying to kill him.
The story should say: "Im the pirate, I have been playing since beta 3.5 years ago.." I have ooogle amounts of sps.. And anyone who has played less than a year I flick a bugger at and they explode!"!!
Now the question I ask, is why are there noob corps in .4 or lower space!! Especially when you have pirates like the above! Some people never learn! Rollin makes a valid point! In EVE you can solo fine! In fact your first couple of months I highly recommend it!! The gear/implants you can get are very nice!
