That soe actually makes new content for their players? and blizzard is alot slower? but feeds players raid dungeons that have to be run repeatedly for gear to hide the fact that theres basically nothing at all to do? And because they offer that for free, it somehow makes it better?

5 dungeons for free. 10 levels of content and 2x 1-20 content(paid) vs 20 levels of content, multiple adventure packs with additional content. And another xpac which will add 20 zones of content(throughout all levels) all paid
Is it really a content issue? Or is it simply the fact that your too cheap to buy the xpacs. And the free content appeals to you simply because its free?
Is that whats causing a thorn in your side? or is it simply the fact that you can't stand seeing any other games besides your FAVORITE GAME EVAAAA!!!! try to advertise and get more players, simply because your afraid some people MIGHT. It's just a ad, thats what companies do, they advertise.

Amen to that. I always laugh at people talking about this mmotpg is harder than this mmorpg , blah blah blah. Unless your brain dead , none of these games should be hard. Some may be more time consuming than others to get to a certain point which people deem as hitting end game...but other than that not much to any of them.

mmh, I tried both, EQ and WoW and I must admit that I find EQ definitely more attractive than WoW. WoW is a very good beginners mmorpg, hence the huge subscritpion numbers they have, but it is just far far to easy for me and I don't mean I do an instance for 40 poeple alone.

Oh my, you are a mmo player , great. But if you think that SOE has made the right move with their new internet ad , that's your opinion. Yes WoW is easier and that is maybe one of the reasons why its a runaway success.
I play EQ1 for years myself and I was one of the few players that was game banned for alleged forum misuse in SWG. SOE is the only gaming company that bans forum users from gameplay , the smarter gaming compaies wisely bans the players from the forum themselves and contines collect the monthly fees.
Since SOE has played hardball with me , I decided not to take my glove and go home . Like alot of SOE's mistakes , I am something they have to live with and if I see a mistake like this laughable attempt to get new subscibers, I am all to happy to point it out.

I actually like that the forum account is tied in with your game account. To often I have seen blatant admission from people cheating in mmorpg's and there is nothing they can do because the forum account is not tied up with the game. It only shows that they rather loose some players and therefore money as keeping bad people ingame. I actually played all of SOE's mmorpg's myself and they aren't to bad, just to team play orientated for me.
All companies make mistakes. SOE has made a few more than others, but still I would not start threads like that.

Of course it's easy, it's generic A.I. running the mobs, it takes anyone but the stupidest about 5 seconds to find the patterns in that. The only challenge in MMO's is against other players.

If you like the way SOE has mutated their EULA and TOS to serve their own ends then maybe you get a job with them or prehaps start a dictatorship of your own.

I personally know a player from excaliver DAoC run by GoA who posted on an outside forum and then proudly said he emailed copies to mythic and GoA.This involved personal threats etc.He got well and truely banned from DAoC.
considering how long it takes SoE to ban players for hacks,rudeness etc in planetside i am sure for something you posted on forum it was so bad i would say good riddence to you and your great $15 a month.The community in general is well and better off.I can only imagine what you must have posted for SoE who so loves their money to ban you!

Your kidding..right? Look at the texture detail on both games. WoW KILLS EQ1 in graphics. The animations are smoother, but its just a more 'cartoony' feel. EQ1 was more realistic, but still didn't have as good as graphics.

Copeland , I agree with you about CCP's Eve as being the leaderof providing content without additional cost and I have try the game but it lacks an avatar that functions in a 3-d enviroment. I know that this is a difficult thing to do in an MMO so CCP can focus on other content.

Ok 1st of all for a long time EQ and DAOC were the 2 top dogs in the mmo industry sure there were a lot more mmo's than just these 2.But SOE and MYTHIC were able to produce great games by throwing cash at it.
2nd of all how long has WoW been out?New expansion anytime soon?Dont even talk about free content with the current game.I mean really how many level 60's can a player have before it becomes boring?
Say what you will about SOE but they have done a helluva job with EQ.Not just with content but the new progression servers AND the countless expansions.The new expansions can be bought for 20 bucks in 1 pack(titanium)that in itself is a great value.
For any mmo developer to be able to keep a sizable playerbase for 6 years is astounding in this genre.The graphics may not be the best but it speaks well for players to keep WANTING to come back to a 6 year old game.
At the very least SOE is willing to try NEW things with its current "classic" game.That is a lot more than anyone can say for WoW.
Has blizzard even thought about putting the war back in the title of the game yet?If i were you i would be questioning why Blizzard is making so much cash off this game and not even trying new ways of keeping players in the game itself.
PvP servers with open warfare?How about relic items for true siege warfare?How about gold drops and item drops in PvP combat?How about taking the battlegounds rules and implemeting them to the rest of the world they created?
All of the things ive listed above have been done already in games that are current and are not hard to to code in.

EQ1 is still running for a couple of reasons the first is it will still run on a P-3 computer . Don't laugh but alot of peeps can not afford a new computer or a second monthly fee for a new game. Secondly is SOE has bleed the player base dry with expasion costS. I am not saying that it is a poor man's game but SOE did make EQ2 that only runs on much higher end systems

SOE rob Peter to pay Paul but we all know what happen ,WoW showed up and SOE thought CU and NGE but too stupid too late. end game for SOE and its been downhill ever since. The reason you gave for EQ still being around is the same reason WoW has as many subscribers as they do currently.You dont need a game rig that costs 3k to run it.Pretty smart if ya ask me.
I can agree with you that SWG was screwed from the get go.The beta testers told the devs it needed at least another year in development.Lets face it SWG is a wash.Too bad Lucas couldnt read the writing on the wall.
Sure they made EQ2 the way they did for 1 reason and 1 reason only:Longevity.Computers get cheaper and so do the parts.What is todays highend graphics card is tomorrows budget card.
I just dont think the comparison between EQ and WoW is even neccesary.Most of the implementation in WoW was taken from a lot of games.
But really all im saying is this:EQ has a ton more content than WoW does in its current state.As far as bleeding the public dry....well dont think the "Burning Crusade"is going to be free.As a matter of fact ill bet that there will be a "standard" version a "special edition"and a "Collectors Edition".Each priced as follows $49.99,$59.99,and last but not least $79.99.

SOE wins every time you open your big mouth about them. WoW is terriffic fun until you get bored. After that it sucks. I can still play EQ to this day and be challenged and enthralled. I wouldn't play WoW if you paid me. No, really.

They do don't they ..but In SOE case , this attempt like alot of Marketing schemes of SOE , are not well thought out and that My friend, makes it truly laughable. Noone in their right mind would consider Eq1 an upgrade to WoW.

I know that both games are Fantasy but SOE has a real fantasy going on thinking that they are any WoW players for EQ1 while they wait for the burning crusades expansion that will allow them to get to level 70.
EQ 1 has had about 12 expasions in about 6 years and WoW is going on its first in 2 years. WoWs patchs have added more free content then the tight fisted ones at SOE would give up.
All of SOE games have dropped in playership and Now they have to bow the the king and beg for players. Its really SOE sad.

mmh, I tried both, EQ and WoW and I must admit that I find EQ definitely more attractive than WoW. WoW is a very good beginners mmorpg, hence the huge subscritpion numbers they have, but it is just far far to easy for me and I don't mean I do an instance for 40 poeple alone.
SOE is not sad at all, it is people like you who are sad who have to start threads like that.

I play EQ1 for years myself and I was one of the few players that was game banned for alleged forum misuse in SWG. SOE is the only gaming company that bans forum users from gameplay , the smarter gaming compaies wisely bans the players from the forum themselves and contines collect the monthly fees.
Since SOE has played hardball with me , I decided not to take my glove and go home . Like alot of SOE's mistakes , I am something they have to live with and if I see a mistake like this laughable attempt to get new subscibers, I am all to happy to point it out.

I actually like that the forum account is tied in with your game account. To often I have seen blatant admission from people cheating in mmorpg's and there is nothing they can do because the forum account is not tied up with the game. It only shows that they rather loose some players and therefore money as keeping bad people ingame. I actually played all of SOE's mmorpg's myself and they aren't to bad, just to team play orientated for me.
All companies make mistakes. SOE has made a few more than others, but still I would not start threads like that.

WoW is just more easy to learn, but that doesn't make the game more easy.
it really doesn't matter if you hit click 1-3-2-1 keys in WoW or in EQ, EQ2 or Daoc. its all the same. MMORPGS never required skill, it never been a genre thats hard to play.
Of course it's easy, it's generic A.I. running the mobs, it takes anyone but the stupidest about 5 seconds to find the patterns in that. The only challenge in MMO's is against other players.
If you like the way SOE has mutated their EULA and TOS to serve their own ends then maybe you get a job with them or prehaps start a dictatorship of your own.
SOE makes more mistakes then others , if not they would still be number 1 and would not need to run such a pathetic ad going after WoW customers.

I personally know a player from excaliver DAoC run by GoA who posted on an outside forum and then proudly said he emailed copies to mythic and GoA.This involved personal threats etc.He got well and truely banned from DAoC.
considering how long it takes SoE to ban players for hacks,rudeness etc in planetside i am sure for something you posted on forum it was so bad i would say good riddence to you and your great $15 a month.The community in general is well and better off.I can only imagine what you must have posted for SoE who so loves their money to ban you!

The art styles are both in different directions but it feels like they both run off the same graphical engine if not one being slightly more superior..(eq-1)
Your kidding..right? Look at the texture detail on both games. WoW KILLS EQ1 in graphics. The animations are smoother, but its just a more 'cartoony' feel. EQ1 was more realistic, but still didn't have as good as graphics.

To those arguing which is better EQ or WoW.. my god give it up already... Nobody really cares afterall. EQ is there and WoW is there. People play what they like.
Good game developers don't charge for content if they charge a monthly fee. I guess that once again leaves CCP as leader of the industry.

Ok 1st of all for a long time EQ and DAOC were the 2 top dogs in the mmo industry sure there were a lot more mmo's than just these 2.But SOE and MYTHIC were able to produce great games by throwing cash at it.
2nd of all how long has WoW been out?New expansion anytime soon?Dont even talk about free content with the current game.I mean really how many level 60's can a player have before it becomes boring?
Say what you will about SOE but they have done a helluva job with EQ.Not just with content but the new progression servers AND the countless expansions.The new expansions can be bought for 20 bucks in 1 pack(titanium)that in itself is a great value.
For any mmo developer to be able to keep a sizable playerbase for 6 years is astounding in this genre.The graphics may not be the best but it speaks well for players to keep WANTING to come back to a 6 year old game.
At the very least SOE is willing to try NEW things with its current "classic" game.That is a lot more than anyone can say for WoW.
Has blizzard even thought about putting the war back in the title of the game yet?If i were you i would be questioning why Blizzard is making so much cash off this game and not even trying new ways of keeping players in the game itself.
PvP servers with open warfare?How about relic items for true siege warfare?How about gold drops and item drops in PvP combat?How about taking the battlegounds rules and implemeting them to the rest of the world they created?
All of the things ive listed above have been done already in games that are current and are not hard to to code in.
Sorry but EQ in my eyes is the winner in this debate.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Puoltry. You have made alot of valid points but since I am in a unique position to judge SOE criticly ( as they have judge me)
EQ1 is still running for a couple of reasons the first is it will still run on a P-3 computer . Don't laugh but alot of peeps can not afford a new computer or a second monthly fee for a new game. Secondly is SOE has bleed the player base dry with expasion costS. I am not saying that it is a poor man's game but SOE did make EQ2 that only runs on much higher end systems
Secondly July of 04 , Myself , a 3 year player of eq1 and thousands of others switched to SWG. SOE rob Peter to pay Paul but we all know what happen ,WoW showed up and SOE thought CU and NGE but too stupid too late. end game for SOE and its been downhill ever since. Try to tell me that its not and All I have to do is point at the numbers and the desparete marketing schemes worthy of Ralph Kramdem and Ed Norton . Humanna , Hummana, Hummna.

I can agree with you that SWG was screwed from the get go.The beta testers told the devs it needed at least another year in development.Lets face it SWG is a wash.Too bad Lucas couldnt read the writing on the wall.
Sure they made EQ2 the way they did for 1 reason and 1 reason only:Longevity.Computers get cheaper and so do the parts.What is todays highend graphics card is tomorrows budget card.
I just dont think the comparison between EQ and WoW is even neccesary.Most of the implementation in WoW was taken from a lot of games.
But really all im saying is this:EQ has a ton more content than WoW does in its current state.As far as bleeding the public dry....well dont think the "Burning Crusade"is going to be free.As a matter of fact ill bet that there will be a "standard" version a "special edition"and a "Collectors Edition".Each priced as follows $49.99,$59.99,and last but not least $79.99.
Remember the SWG collectors edition?Those were grabbed up pretty fast.
