Well I watched Steve on Discovery for a long time and really respected his passion for nature and just feel terrible for his family and tragic loss of such an expert in his field. I hope his wife and family can get through this with little grief and be proud Steve was known worldwide.

That's the truth of it. Hate to see anyone die, but if you play with fire you're going to get burned.
first things first swiming with a stingray is = to stroking a cat infact stroking cats kills more people, and no one asks to die. what he did with the creatures seemed danger to us but to the people that do this for a living or indeed all there lives like he did its no more dangerous than driving a car fast. yes its risky but he was a pro and as testiment to that he died doing something safe that we all can go do
Actually, they've already said that he got too close to it, like he's famous for doing with alot of dangerous animals. He didn't deserve to die like that, but he should of been more careful.
Originally posted by Nasica Are you people sick ? Steve Irwin spent his whole life trying to make people understand that animals arnt inherintly dangerous at all, you just have to know how to treat them, and you say he's playing with fire. He has only passed less than 24hrs ago, dont you think you could keep his dream alive for a little more longer before talking about all the 'dangerous' animals he's played with. Also, can some one please explain to me how some one can deserve to die ? This man has given nothing but love to australia, the world and its animal kingdom. Spent his entire life working hard so you could understand life better, and now that he's barely gone you have already forgotten what it was all about. Please people, before you post, take a minute silence to reflect on such a wonderful life, and be more careful with your comments on a public forum. this is a world wide page, you dont know who you could be affecting, Steve Irwin was an extremly well known character in australia.
RIP Steve, god rest your soul.
And in the end, he showed us how dangerous they can be, and why not to go out and mess with them.

As I recall, he had said snake crawling in his shirt on that particular episode.
But in all seriousness, I am really shocked and saddened by his death. I watched his show constantly as a kid, and he was an idol for me, he even made me want to be a herpetologist when I grew up. The man loved animals, he loved them with the core of his being, and it showed in absolutely every moment of his documentaries.
Even if you didn't respect his work, Steve was an absolutely radiant man. He loved his life, everything about it, and he was a man with no regrets. He loved his job, his family, his friends, his fans, his country, all of it. He was just a being that spoke volumes of what the human character can be, and if you can't see that, you're totally blind.
R.I.P Steve Irwin, may you be forever immortalized, not as an entertainer or an educator, but as a true display of an honestly happy man.

Im not too sure about that. But I think it was the same episode he was 200ft up a tree with no harness. He was holding on with one hand and in the other he had a lizard which he only put down because he thought it was going to bite him.
I was watching Channel Nine news just before and apparently the ninemsn website nearly crashed due to the record hits on the Steve Irwin article.

Big shame, I liked watching his shows. Like others I occasionally mocked his presentation style, but I still watched him, he was good entertainer who really cared about the animals he worked with.
I feel sorry for his kids, one was eight I think so at least she will have memories of her dad, I think the other one is a bit younger.
I made this a few minutes ago. Has it been done 100's of times? Sure. Is it original? Guess it isn't. But this guy was a childhood hero of mine, and I don't care if people say it sucks or not. I'm not aiming to be original, or creative, or whatnot, I'm paying tribute to my childhood hero.
i myself couldn't believe it was true. I mean, out of all people, The croc hunter would have been the last i expected to die in a freak accident like this (then again...).
Other than that: Nooooo...
Wait, i know, this is a gigantic april 1st hoax...
Am I the only guy who finds this funny and who isn't shocked at all. Steve Erwin was from the "Punch the animal in the face" school of ecology. To get a stingray to kill you takes alot of effort, my god man! you'd have to mess with it for along time to get one to do anything to you. The animal was defending itself, Stingrays have to be one of the most benign critters in the ocean. It was the guys fault and I'm suprised it took this long. Sure it's sad he left a kid and a wife behind but he screwed up, and suffered the consequences as a result. It wasn't tragic, it was inevitable.
I expected some heartless, assholeish responses to this, but not this many.
There have only been 17 known incidence involving a Sting-Ray injuring, killing, or attacking a human. They are docile creatures, and like the articles said it was a freak accident, not even Steve would have expected a Sting-Ray to attack. He didnt die becuase "he got what he deserved" or whatever dumbass thing some of you people can spew out, he died doing what he loved, living with animals, studying them, experiencing their nature, and showing the rest of the world.

Oh, a shame. I really enjoyed his show, which was pretty fun, compared to the rest of the crap the television sends. But, he was a reckless guy. He wasn't meant to die in a bed, sleeping in silently. Getting stabbed by a poisonous 20cm barb from a sting ray, is a pretty damn cool way to die. Not as cool as getting eaten by a lion, but somewhat close.
Well, I hate to say it, but I dont think many people didn't see this coming. Too many risks, dealing with too many easily provoked creatures. Hes been lucky plenty of times in the past, but his luck just ran out
