Obriak if I told you that the president of the company SOE said not only that he wished he had not done the NGE, but also said it was a mistake..... HOW would that make you feel about the positive outlook on this product?
Does that make you think this looks good for it? Do you think that the president Smedley himself would not say that while at the same time be supporting the game?
I mean think for a second now, use common sense... if the MAIN MAN in charge says, this was a mistake and he wishes he never did it.. MAKES THIS have some sort of magical lifespan?

Damn cryptic and vague, huh? Why do they think THAT'S a rumor?

I hope so! That poll they did a while back has had me wondering whats going on for a while now. I hadn't made that connection until you pointed it out. Thanks.
My predicitions for SWG are that they won't release a Pre-CU version for SOE has said that many times. It is good that they finally admit that their changed didn't work out, but I don't believe that they will listen to the customers. They look at their statistic and will try to maximize their own profit and to be honest I think they might succeed in doing so. Eventhough many players have left the SWG I'm certain that some will join.
They have announced "a great new version" and blocked the trial. If they are smart, and I hope they are for once, they will indeed make changes that everyone wants. Lets face it we can say that SOE/LA ruined the game that was once great, but they are also the ones who created the great game in the first place. So as wierd as this may sound I do have faith in SOE. If they are indeed making a great new version then I might just consider paying again afterall, however I don't think I will join until I have a chance to try it first. It could be just another lets try to trick them into paying one more time.
As for the rumors of the next MMO it sound a bit like jedi academy only larger. Perhaps it could work, but I have my doubts about it. I don't expect to see a new MMO from LA/SOE any time soon especially if you consider the tension between LA and SOE.
But even with all it faults SOE as a few good points too. They do try to get players back into the game. If you have left the game you might not like the updates, but it won't affect you either. If they do manage to create a good update (that would probably be a first) than almost everyone will probably rejoice. Don't just judge the updates, but keep in mind the purpose too.
The nge will get a cu all 9 proffs will be cut down to 1 iconic proff Jedi all the plannets will be cut down just to tatoine all the animations will be removed so is just text appearing over youre head then all the nge fanboys will be al happy that they got evrything they ever wanted apart from the text over there heads cause reading is unstarwarsy and to hard to read for the nge players.

There's a REALLY good point here... the longer the NGE is left to linger, the dumber SOE looks... Seriously, look at the Flak Brad took over the V:SoH decision... how many developers are going to want to go through that? If everyone was a running around as a Jedi it probably wouldn't feel very special to me anymore. I love the Jedi Knight series of games that were spawned from the Dark Forces series. I have considered how it would be if they did a clone era MMO and honestly it sounds exciting but I already know the next SW mmo that comes out is NOT going to be unique or anywhere near as detailed as SWG was so at the same time I am really never looking forward to another SW MMO. LEC will always look at SWG as the failure that shouldn't have been and never try that level of diversity and unique thinking again.

They cancelled the expansion they were working on. They cancelled the profession specific quests that were to come out with the expertise systems. They cancelled the collision system. Those are just some of the major ones.
The current publish plan consists of the expertise system and adding to the legacy quest series. Everything that Mr. Smedly asked the playerbase to wait six months for has been removed from the roadmap.
The reason that these things have been removed is that they are no longer willing to devote the developement resources needed to do them. The reason they are not willing to devote the developement resources is that there are not enough subscribers left to make it a profitable venture (that whole 'We cancelled the expansion to make this the bestest game evar!!1112' thing was just PR BS).
The subscriber base is currently significantly smaller than the one that Mr. Smedly himself said was too small to justify the continued existance of the game. When a new Star Wars MMORPG is about to be released, SWG will be closed. Until then, SOE can still use it as a means to get other IP licenses from comany executives who are unaware of how they mismanaged SWG into failure and damaged the IP for any future MMORPG maker (I'd bet that having the Star Wars license played a role in SOE getting the DC Comics license).
Heh, I know I'd prefer expertise trees for my proffession over a collision system I'd also rather they introduce the expertise trees before an expansion so they can make the expansions difficulty level with the expertise in mind.
Why would they cancel an expansion to save money, then introduce parts of it into the game for free (Restuss was originally part of the expansion)?
They cancelled the expansion because they looked at the subscription numbers at the time and determined that continued development of it would cost them more money than they would ever make off of sales of the expansion. They took what was mostly finished (Restuss) and decided to use it for PR to try to stop more cancellations. That also freed up the folks who were working on the expansion to work on other things (either on SWG or the DC Comics game).
Remember the top guy at SOE (Mr. Smedly) said that the pre NGE subscription numbers were unacceptable for a Star Wars MMOG. The subscription numbers at this point are far lower than they were when they were unacceptable. Unless the new boxed version of the game sells better than even the biggest optimists think it will. there will be no reason for SOE or LEC to continue to dump money into it. That means no more expansions, and no more real development after the expertise system is finished.
- More cool loot - More Diablo 2 game enhancements (expertise) - A simpler craft system with easy an easy to use crafting tool that turns ordinary loot into extraordirnary loot (horadric cube) - The eventual removal of entertainer and trader classes as stand alone playable classes. - Smuggling system postponed or launched and quickly removed due to unexpected and unplanned exploitation. - SOE selling off the property to a third party that wants to continue to develope it while continuing to host it.

If Warner wanted their name away from MxO, why would they sign a deal for the DC Comics game with the company that currently has the MxO license? I'm also sure that the execs at Warner took a look at the names of the games produced by the companies they were looking at to develope the DC Comics game. The only name, other than The Matrix, that a Warner Bros. executive would be certian to recognise out of the current crop of MMORPGs is Star Wars.
As to your last comment, the head of SOE has never said that the subscription numbers for either Planetside or MxO were so low that the games were in danger of being cancelled if those games weren't completely overhauled. Mr. Smedly did make that comment about the pre NGE SWG subscription numbers when justifying the NGE. Those subscription numbers were much higher than the current ones.

But there wiill be an another totally differnt game as SW.
You all remember before the release of NGE they changed lots of things, as the same period nowi, they are working on sth and they dont announce it, we all learn about it 10 days before release.
But it wont be good either, couse they never listen to customers.
A new KotOR MMO announcement from Bioware & LA, with SOE as Publisher. Classic SWG Servers to come for Holidays, but with no expansion content other than JTL. A Flood to the Classic Servers, resulting in NGE server shutdowns with free transfers. Due to the build up to these things, the Smuggling system will be postponed, and eventually dropped.
Dude they would NEVER be able to transfer all the clicky Jedi that got them free..into that system. It would be utter chaos.
The best hope for a classic is a start fresh one.
It will never happen though, I just dont think its worth it.
Bioware will rule if they can pull that off though with KOTOR, a game that got 125 awards and game of the year... so like YEAH.. it has promise.
The NGE will be done by the end of 2007 -- they have no plans past that game as of now as stated.
The game will grow even more of crutch to stand on with what crowd is left.
The last ditch effort is the new box... that's sad when nothing is NEW but they do this last move.
The NGE is a failed product as stated by the president of the company himself. It is a ship sinking and been named a "MISTAKE" from the producers and the people that run it..
Pretty much, that says it all. If you cannot figure it out or take a hint from that then you pretty much will buy swamp land in Iceland.

The expertease system will not be completed before the next "revamp comes"
We will not see smuggler re vamp go LIVE though we will see it on test center (maybe)
there will be an attempt at classic servers by holidays
initaly there will be lots of interest with classic servers and as soon as folks remember combat medics poisons buff lines they will tire quickly
server consolidation transfers made avabile with purchase of swg complete
they will try and keep the game going till the tv show comes out October 08 with the announcment of SWG 2
With the annocment of the classic servers the subs will go back up till they mess it up with an unwanted "fix patch nerf"

I usually picture the Career builder commercial with the room full of monkeys and upside down sales chart when thinking about the SOE/SWG decision making process.....
SOE's John Blakely and Todd Fiala issued a warning: "Don't make our mistakes." Ref NGE
