    LOL...

    How about:

Smed gets- "Like 100k Subscribers all cried out at once..."

R_5 gets- "Get on board the Falcon Kid, this place is gonna BLOW!"

Hielos gets- "I'd speak L337, but my foot's in my mouth...!"

Then we could offer him a chance to send us a picture of them wearing them for a Cookie...

Another idea (no picture this time):

    PreCU: Rez please!
    SOE: Haha! Noob.

or (longer I know, but good):
"Where, where is the preCU?" "It's dead, in your greed you killed it." "Nooowoooowoowoo!"

    ...just throwing it out there.

    Lmao Ditto.

And i still think a short and sweet PRE-CU FTW in really big letters would be best, or something similar. If you start gettin in to all kinds of movie quotes, it gets lame, imo, and im sorry but most people will not get the reference. Most people cannot quote Star Wars.  "ftw" may not be exactly "adult" but it seems to fit with the whole concept of putting up a bb about a mmorpg. Which is very adult, ofc.

Also, put up something more than 2 or 3 lines long and it will start to loose effectiveness, imo. It just needs to be a catchy phrase in big bold letters with a website on the bottom. It would be fun to put "brought to you by" and a link to this forum, lol wonder if mmorpg.com would appreciate the publicity or hurt us?

You want something that will pique the general public's curiousity and attention, and something that will make soe/la employees at the same time.

Well, I just checked out the San Diego location.  Unfortunately. there are no billboards by the SOE offices.  In fact, I didn't see a single billboard in the surrounding office/industrial area.

  • kimosabekimosabe Member Posts: 516
I guess it makes sense now that I think of it. Why the hell would there be billboards in the middle of an industrial/office complex? That's not where the consumers are, so why advertise there (from a business point of view)? Anyone got any back up locations?

SOE has been doing its best to avoid listening to its customers on this one for going on three years, you think averting their eyes near a billboard is going to be a problem?

    They know how you feel.

    They don't care.

They would just chuckle maliciously at the idea that you spent money on this and try to figure out a way to make the billboard company give them a piece of the action.

Not only that, but you are being secretive JUST LIKE SOE. So why should people even donate now? Before it was an idea that everyone contributed to in one way or another and was kept up-to-date on. Now it is being dictated by a few with secretive behavior.

The letters FTW are 1337 speak and would only hurt the cause. It is immature and most people wouldn't know what the hell you are talking about. There is nothing wrong with puting a Billboard up about a game that most consider a hobby. There are plenty of hobbies out there advertised on billboards or things advertised for hobbies out there. Gaming is just another one of those things and I will be glad when people start learning that gaming is not immature.

Adults created video games after all.

Figure out the route he drives home on and place it on a billboard along the way, so he has to drive by the billboard everyday on the way home. It could be as simple as knowing the main road he drives on and which way he drives on it.

I just said the Community will decide the messages. We plan on having an online vote once we get a site up, with entries submitted by posters. We want to be sure that certian phrases are used, such as Pre-CU. We're also thinking depending on funds, we may be able to rotate the messages, it would just depend on costs.

As far as being secretive, we don't want to violate the RoC here (resulting in this thread getting locked) or tip our entire hand to certian eyes. Like I said previously, if you would like specific info or have any questions, feel free to send a PM. I've been answering all PM questions asked, as well as asking some & discussing issues. I should have said "we can't talk about it YET but..." When all the ducks are lined up, we'll be free to speak openly... oh, pun intended.

We don't want to drive people off, we're just trying to be careful. We don't want to give anyone a reason to lock us down here, or anywhere.

So instead of "FTW!", why not just spell out "for the win!"?

(FTW is an acronym, not l33tsp33k)

Personally, I hate the term "FTW", but in all honesty, it's short, well known, and sort of a leet-speaker joke (like "WTF" or "LFG") for most Pre-CU'ers. Hate it or not, it's short & clear in the MMO gaming community...

Ok, first of all, most people are not going to know wth we're talking about anyways, dont worry. FTW would be the least of their questions. lol Im not saying it has to be "pre-cu ftw" but I dont think it's a bad idea. It's been the rallying phrase for a year now, the people who need to know what it means already do, the people who dont can find out. Im not picky about what is put up, i just dont want some big paragraph about the evils of soe or some cliche star wars quote.

And please dont read more into my words than what i wrote. I did not call gaming immature.

That sounds a little bit like stalking (tracking Smedley's movements), and I'm not certain that is the best idea.

Besides, I think that the biggest effect would be if we get the gaming magazines/websites to comment on the billboard.

I took Mira Mesa Blvd. (a major road) to get there, and didn't see any billboards on that road between SOE and the 15 Freeway.  Though if I had to guess, I'd imagine most of their people would take the 805 to get to work.  I can scope out that route later.  Also I didn't look for bus benches and such, so I'll keep my eyes peeled on my next trip.

Stalking involves following him.  If his address is public record (and if he owns a house it is -- I hate that fact) then you just need to plot the fastest route between point A and point B.  It may be an assumption, but it's a pretty good one.  I know in Atlanta if you want to get anywhere you WILL use the established routes.  To do otherwise will double your commute.  San Diego is a darn big city and Austin is no chump either so I would think things were the same there.

    See, no stalking required.

I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever :)
