Hi every one, I am new to this site so if I step on some protocol or other please forgive a newcomer.
I play and have played Hz from the beginning, I was on UO for five years so am not new to MMORPG games YES! there are many problems with this game but not half as many as the people on a lot of game sites are saying, if you where to take these comments literally then the thing would be totally unplayable, this is NOT the case.
The graphics are very good and scenic in most parts I have explored the land and was very surprised by the quality of some of the makeup and look of the terrain. The whole thing is an experience no matter what anyone says, the music is atmospheric and sound effects are good. Cities are different enough so you know what area of the land you are in by the building style and there are many many points on the player interface that are well thought out and would take too long to list here.
Most of the problems are things that I think will be sorted out in time, and NO! they should not be there but if you listen to the `one day have a go bunch` you will miss out on a potentially fantastic game.
There is one big problem that I must say I find unable to understand, as to why they did it and that is the fact that the reward system that is fundamental to all fantasy type games is rubbish! the point to most if not all warriors is to kill monsters get some reward which you put into better armour and weapons and away you go again eventually becoming a LORD in your own right, not here you fight bigger monsters and get crap like 20 copper coins, they need to fix this SOON or they will lose all those people that like adventuring as opposed to crafting AE TAKE NOTE!!!
I will be playing this game and keeping my eye out till I find the perfect game for me it might be this one as it evolves or possibly UOX, or EQ2, I will go to the one that offers the best game play and general package.
So what im saying is Have a go your-self and make up your own mind don't just nod and follow the flock to the next bandwagon to kick
Thank for reading my ravings its nice to know im not the only nutter in the world.
The game is buggy - more so than any I have seen. It is incomplete, the world is VASTLY empty of monsters or items. Like walking through a painting. The customer service is NON EXISTANT. When you DO get a response you are treated like dirt. Like a criminal instead of a customer. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
BUY THIS GAME!
It's great.
The game has some bugs - many less than others I have seen. It is incomplete, there are tons of mobs and tons of places for more mobs. The scenery is amazing, like walking through a painting.

its cool game but ......
i dont play games anymore that hosted by Game Network-Digi Bros
Beta Tester Views: The game is no longer in beta... Con's: 1) Lagged gameplay, which is to be expected during beta. Im not aware of the current gameplay but in beta, it got to be disappointing. There is still some lag, but I play almost everyday and it doesn't really affect my gameplay. 2) Class imbalances were unheard of and when they tweaked classes, they tweaked them hard. Im sure they'll do better testing before implementation in final release but Im still hearing of imbalances from current subscribers. Yes, there are still some imbalances. But what does it matter? There is no PvP. I would like my conjurer to be as tough as a reaver, but would a conjurer really take out a reaver? I don't think so. The class imbalances seem right to me. 3) Bugs, bugs, bugs and were not talking about the fire beetles you get to squash. Incomplete quests, housing and crafting can be viewed as bugged until you learn they are incomplete or in fact bugged. I found plenty of resources for crafting in unreachable places. Kind of like teasing a poor crafter till he drools to death. There might have been bugs during beta, but many of them have been squashed. I hardly ever have a bug affect me. There is plenty to do, if you like to work on community projects. I agree that the quest system could use more though. 4) During beta there were several load issues from entering the game to portaling to other areas. Think it was something called the RCI loop but Im sure thats all fixed by now. You would also come across several NPC characters that were vital to gameplay who would disappear and go missing. Hmm, I never see this happen. Again, many things have happened since beta. 5) I only reached high 30's in beta and some of the events were too lagged to enjoy, but aside from events, Im really not sure what the high end game involves. Im not necessarily a PvP fan, but I do know that without that option, content is needed on a much faster pace. I agree wholeheartedly. HZ needs high level content, other than the events. And, yes, when mobs attack the towns it gets pretty laggy. But there are ways to reduce that lag. Also, they are supposed to be implementing a fix for it soon.
The game is two months into release. Much of what went on in beta does not apply today.
MAKANE (Horizons: Malakye Revan - Conjurer on Bounty) Lords of Stonekeep
I wish there was pvp so i could take care of fanboi's such as Makane
One day you will see that no matter how long you hide your head in your shell this game should of not been released until everything on the back of the box was promised to players on day 1
I am no troll and i am still playing but i have more gripes then i have praise
Heh, I'd actually like to see Makane make a followup post to his "There are no bugs and lag" message.
Bounty gets so lagged if it isn't rebooted every other day now that its unplayable. Mobs don't spawn, resources don't spawn, NPC's don't spawn, you can't see other players moving, etc.
I won't go so far as to say "Don't buy Horizons", but I will say "Don't buy Horizons for 4-6 months". They are (very) slowly fixing problems and trying to clean up some of the lag you experience fighting near more than 3 other people, but their primary focus right now seems to be making sure that every class in the game gets its fair share of nerfs rather than fixing problems. In a few months when that settles down and they actually start working on bugs and content, the game could be really worth playing.
We'll see if it can compete with the other games coming out then.
I played this game for about a month but cancelled. I felt it wasn't quite ready for primetime. For instance, my hotkeys wouldn't refresh, so I didn't know if certain powers were available or not. Since I used the hotkeys as my primary combat interface the bug was really frustrating. I also experienced quite a bit of lag. Between the lag and the hotkey issue I found myself taking a lot of dirt naps. I finally had enough when my account got screwed up (I'm still not sure what happened) and I couldn't log into the game. I waited a few days for customer support but got fed up and cancelled before they ever responded There were other minor issues (like the fact I ended up under Kirasanct everytime I teleported there or the fact I couldn't access the shrine near the Sslanis, etc.) but they didn't bother me as much.
On the up side, I liked the concept of the game. The crafting and classes were well thought out. I also liked the back story and the graphics. I played on Spirit (role-playing server) and met a lot of nice people. In fact, leaving the community was the hardest part of quitting.
To buy or not to buy ... well that's up to you. I believe they are giving a free 7 day trial. I would recommend playing for free and judging the game for yourself.
I've been playing this game a while now, and come up with the following opinions:
Content: Lacking.. horribly lacking. In the lower end game, up til about 50-ish, there's a reasonable amount of content. However, beyond that... there's virtually nothing for the average player to do. There used to be a bunch of golems to go off and kill in the 50s range, but that's gone due to the storyline.
Graphics/Server performance: Graphics are reasonable on a high end machine. I run an ABIT IC7-MAX3 w/ Intel 3.0GHz 800Mhz FSB, 2 Gigs of Dual Channel PC3200, and an Nvidia FX5950 Ultra video card, and STILL have problems in some of the zones. There's serious memory leaks throughout the game. Servers are very prone to lag spikes. Players can walk through walls, disappear through floors, drop down from bridges, and generally defy any form of physics purely unintentionally.
Community: The community is great. Most people in the game are mature and behave accordingly. Every game seems to have that little sect of people who just cant act correctly, however, this game seems to have less of that type of people... maybe the kids are just bored with the lack of content and moved on?
Races/Classes: There's a large assortment of races and classes to be played in this game. A few of them are even unlockable depending on what the server does toward that end. However, it seems the devs for this game are competing for the Golden Nerf award. With as lacking in content and as crappy the servers handle their work load, you'd think they would til they fixed things before nerfing the classes. But it seems to make up for the lack of content, they're nerfing things to slow everyone down.
Summary: Honestly, I'd have to say pass on this game... atleast for now. If they fix the content, if they fix the servers, if they fix the plethora of other problems with this game... then I could see playing it. However, given that big titles such as City of Heroes, Worlds of Warcraft, and EQ2 are due out within 6 months... I seriously doubt this game is worth waiting for them to fix. I did buy it, I did try it, I did give it more than a fair chance... but the game just isnt living up to the general expectations it had.
I dont know what you all are talkin about. I didnt ever have one significant bug affect me. The game is great aside from lack of customization, loot, and combat system. Other than that its better then any other MMORPG thats out except EQ. Customer Service is great! I had an issue where I couldnt log in and they responded within 1 hour. Then I emailed back and forth and by the time it was done I had about 4 emails and got it fixed in about 4 hours total.
If its true that when you drop a cat it lands on its feet or if you drop toast it lands butter-side down... what happens if you strap toast to a cats back and drop it?
Originally posted by ferat Heh, I'd actually like to see Makane make a followup post to his "There are no bugs and lag" message. What are you talking about....I play on bounty everyday and it has not lagged once. I lost my connection once but was from my end....I think what you may be calling lag is your system not keeping up? The game did look choppy when I was running with 256MB of ram, as soon as I stuck in another 256 all is good...
MOBS spawn when and where they are supposed to..resources spawn faster in some places than others but I think thats on purpose to make it so it isnt too easy...They have done some nerfs but the have also done some additions the characters classes and races are slowly becomeing more balanced as they should..And I have never had lag while fighting and I go in guild groups every second day...
As far as the bugs that everyone is talking about their are a few but not nearly as many as some of the other games on the market. And they are slowly getting worked out too.
Personally I would recomend this game to anyone I love it, unless of course your a PVP nut, then this game isnt for you....The crafting system rocks, combat is great and community building is good too. I also like the trade system in the game, I think that this game will be one of the great MMORPG's on the market.
Agreed. Horizons is basically still very much in a beta state. Lack of high level base content, and if your below level 40 don't even bother with the scripted events they are only for high level 40+.
I had great hopes for Horizons and have been playing it saince beta. (Just cancilled this week) but CSR is poor, with no in game support and 5-7 day responce times out of game. Direct questions to AE Devs like when Transatlantic accounts might be out are ignored.
There are a few good things in the game like the crafting and UI but hordes of things wrong/broken/still not working. Building is a nice part assuming you can find a plot if not your out of luck till someone with a plot cancills as AE are not making any more. Of course if you get a plot then you will find building have no use Silo's still not working you can't put items in your house etc.
There smuch more wrong but I'll stop my rant here. I think Horizons will go the way of E&B but much quicker .
Right on hun.. just was about to say as what you had just stated.. i agree on that basis that this game is only few months old.. besides alot of things to come and sooner would outrank eq on how quick this game gets better. I been playing eq for a long time, and all i can say is eq has the same old boring story, and nothing much new as to come forth, ... in conclusion i think horizons is still better than eq.. but eq would be my secondary game as i would turn to.. .. so i agree with you ..
1.) Crafting (One of the main features) is very 1 dimensional every tier is the exact interation(copy) of the Tier before. There is no real achievment appart doing exactly the same stuff. There a small exception to this one can double tech at tier 3 but else there is not dymanic in the system. An lvl 10 black smith can do the same bronze dagger as an lvl 100 weapon smith and an cobalt dagger is the excat interation of the bronze dagger. Very boring I find. Appart for that many techs for crating are outright not working yet especialy techs for spells.
2.) Combat enigine is abysmal and i am not talking about lags where you triy to heals someone 5 times until hes dead. No simply thing like cast an spell at monster B while in melee range of an monsterA then you have to run to melee range of monster B to deliver spell eg. spirit bolt. the list of these quirks is sheer endless.
3.) I dont know of any aspect of HZ tahts is acttauly not plagued by major bugs.
4.) And a big surprise player driven econonomie is not working out either. It took me 2.5 weeks to find an crafter that was willing to make me an lvl 71 armor all though I had all things ready (I my self was lvl 72 Outfitter). The crafter was french and barely understood what I was talking about I risked it just the same because there was no sun on the horzion when id get a next chance to get one done.
Hz is an big illusion with gigantic holes in it and I am very surpirsed people put with so much crap but lots of people dont seem too notice it.

I played HZ upon release (2 days after, to be exact). It was very fun for the first few weeks, and I was genuinely hooked. Then, after a while some of the more prominent bugs started to annoy me. One big one is how textures are loaded (when its laggy, grey textures are applied). Also, when wandering around I always recall that certain areas were packed with monsters, but then some places were barren wastelands for long stretches.
Anyways, I'm not saying don't get the game. It has great potential, just stay up to date on what some of the more annoying bugs are and you will be set. Otherwise its definitely worth trying!
Ive been playing this game for a couple weeks and i think its pretty fun. It does have some minor bugs but nothing too serious. I havn't noticed much lag and im on dail up. Ill be playing until WoW comes out at least.

Originally posted by chaim This game is the best mmorpg i ever played, and i played a-lot. first of all the support is great, when i have problems i post it on the support site and they answer me right away. and about the bugs it has - you should post a suggestion on the support site and they will fix it right away. so don't complain because it is a great game. Chaim lvl 10 dragon adventurer and lvl 9 dragon crafter.
I have played over 9 MMORPGs and to be honest, this one is on the lower end. I'm not going to say it sucks, because it deffinately has some cool concepts, but i'm certainly not going to praise it. I got bored way too fast. The marketplace is horrible, as everyone can craft their own armor/weapons so why would you bother buying it?
The graphics i can live with, coming from AO,EQ and UO. Nothing close compared to SWG or FFXI, but deffinately reasonable. The class system i find is just...boring. The scenery is cool, but deffinately nothing special. Not enough mobs in the game. Housing is alrite, has some very cool concepts behind it. Crafting is alrite, but at the same time kinda boring. You do the same thing over and over and you can't enchant your items with many options. Sure you can get some sockets but its nothing special in my opinion.
Overall, i wouldn't like to get back into Horizons. Im awaitnig EQ2, but SWG fills my thirst in the meen time. Thats just my opinion though, i don't want anyone to bash me for it. Im just letting you all know how i feel!
EDIT: oh and by the way, i felt the same way you did when i was level 9ish. I thought ide never leave the world of Horizons, but wait until level 15ish....you'll feel the boring side then. but hey, maybe you like the game more then me.....so i could be completely wrong and your love MIGHT JUST keep growing!
For those of you that left Horizons because of the 'poor customer service' I'd encourage you to give it another shot. Recent 'refocusing' of the staff at AE seems to have paid off for those of us paying to play. I have had more interaction with dev's (WM's) in the last two weeks than in the previous six months - I play on Blight, and they are starting to work a lot more with the player base to fix bugs, improve lag, and a myriad of other 'issues' that were chasing folks away.
Is it perfect? No. But is it worth trying out? I think so. New higher level forms (expert level) and resources (through transmuting so far, ground drops to come)... plans revealed for new 'tiered' construction (like tier 1 through tier 6 houses)... additional mobs to fight... and of course new events every few weeks... This is a game that was forced to release early (it showed) and is now finally starting to 'get it together.'
If you haven't played in the last month, you haven't played -- you need to see it as it is now before you can comment. Just my 2 cp.
I'm not a big EQ2 or WOW fan (I have no plans to play either), but if those 2 games are going to result in any MMORPG cancelations....Horizons is going to be it. I've played Horizons from release till now (canceled subscription runs out in a week). Another game which had lots of promise, released early and has little hope of recovery. There isn't going to be an AO type re-birth here. Much of the promised release content is still broken, Horizons combat and crafting systems are tedious and broken (not to mention the everpresent LAG), the recent implosion of the development team and the resulting abandoning of many concepts which made Horizons different (here comes Uber Loot and forced grouping) in a desperate attempt to win back EQ type players alienated early on.
Horizons is transforming into a bad EQ clone....why would anyone return or even join now when EQ2 is nearly released?

first of all the support is great, when i have problems i post it on the support site and they answer me right away.
and about the bugs it has - you should post a suggestion on the support site and they will fix it right away.
so don't complain because it is a great game.

I thought ide never leave the world of Horizons, but wait until level 15ish....you'll feel the boring side then. but hey, maybe you like the game more then me.....so i could be completely wrong and your love MIGHT JUST keep growing!

if you're a male and you like punching yourself in the nutsack then you'll love HORIZONS!!!!!
