Not only the alt-tab but changing some graphic settings such as resolution can cause it to crash out as well. I'm not sure why Xfire effects that but once I turn it off I have no problems.

I don't know about most people but for me, Xfire causes AoC to crash sometimes when I alt-tab so I don't use it. That and with AoC you need all the free resourses you can get!
