A little bit about myself:
*I'm a recent college graduate. I specialize in computer and networking technologies. I'm still pursuing my bachelors!
*I've been playing MMORPGs for over half my life, or in other words since I was 11.
*Although I'm a huge fan of games, I consider myself a casual gamer. I don't power game and I generally only play for recreational activities.
*I use to be a huge fan of the Stratics forums when I played Ultima. I posted quite a bit there.
*In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my roommates, hanging out and playing guitar. On the side I watch anime - if that isn't the definition of a nerd.
Other than that, I try to live life to the fullest!

The problem is that "gamers" as a whole will not agree on a single game. The best you can hope for it to satisfy a niche.
My thoughts exactly. This genre use to cater to niche c…
Originally posted by SaintViktor I don't care how much they upgrade their console. if they do not bring more appealing games to the masses then it means nothing.

I believe it depends on the content and intention of the game versus the subscription model. For instance, games like LOTRO and DDO were at one time subscription based and later converted to F2P. So how is it you can compare them as two separate ent…
It was an interesting survey, however several of the questions either had redundant responses or lacked optional answers such as why you left ; most people don't leave because of 1 factor, but several. Not to mention it didn't have an option for "st…
Cool find. I may research it a bit and keep tabs on it. Looking forward to when the developers publish more press and gameplay images and videos.
Edit: Now that I think about it, Richard Garriot was the lead developer and establisher of Orgin,…
Dungeons and Dragons online is a really cool immersive f2p mmo available. It has spectacular visuals and is modeled after the boardgame. The only problem I have with it is that it requires you to grind quests in order to gain levels to advance. Whil…
Ultima Online is still around. It uses a classic 2D art style and released a higher res, minimal 3D version several years ago. The game still has a community, although it's absolutely nothing like what it use to be. You can open trial accounts and t…
It doesn't exactly adhere to your prefence of flexible customization, but I always enjoyed playing Guild Wars because of it's lustrous landscape design and character models. The game looks absolutely amazing and is a fairly enjoyable to play. You ca…
I haven't started RIFT yet, but it sounds like its within your parameters. It's new, has what I've researched to be a good pvp/pvm system with highly customizable classes and is fairly easy to level in with a dynamic developing storyline. I don't kn…
Just missed an amazing Steam deal for Boarderlands. While it is not freely downloadable, it's got a lot of guns, a lot of action and packed full of story. Not to mention you can join parties online and play with up to 4 players I believe. If you hav…

Modern MMORPGs tend to lean towards the power gamer experience, where PvP, PvM and grinding are the norm. These games don't open avenues to recruit unexperienced gamers into the market thus is the reason outsiders may not be able to relate or unders…
One thing that's changed in the past decade is the heavy emphasis on player leveling to be a key part of a gamers experience. I don't believe it's a bad thing to have leveling, however most games that adopt a system of leveling that requires a playe…
I don't necessarily believe that providing a messenging service outside of the game will prolong a players decision to continue playing if they're already at the quitting point. Even if the service was free, most guilds and players including the hun…
