I think the instancing in POTBS works for them but I support the devs plan to try to make it occur less. Ultimately I hope to see a lot more "adventuring" opportunties in POTBS which to me means random encounters that you aren't necessarily directed…

The one thing you can't do in this game is compare the avatar combat with other MMO avatar combat. The reason is simple. It was never meant to be in the game at first and its still evolving.

POTBS tends to rely less on level than most MMOS. Captains with severl levels between them can participate in battles together without it being completely one sided.
The nation conquest system is also fairly interesting as a PvP system as well…
