The game will run on an older system, you need to have the memory though. I was able to run it on a dual core with an old 9600 card and 1 meg with only a few hiccups. It ran great on the system with the 7950 and 4 megs.
Its actually a fun game, there needs to be more quests at certain levels, but other than that I would say that I would consider playing it when it goes live.

They restrict the beta times because at this stage they are really trying to work the bugs out, as opposed to trying to build buzz. As they let more people in I'm sure that they will expand the playtimes.
Don't worry they are letting more and more people in, the game needs to be stable before they really start opening it up. The wait will be well worth it.
