Yeah there are many people who like to play developer, it's true. I don't have the time for that, and frankly I have never been that impressed with what other amateurs have produced in terms of content, so I prefer to play professionally designed content. In light of that, I judge the game on the basis of the professionally-designed content standing by itself, and on that score ... it's pretty lacking. Unfortunately that shows you never played any of custom made module.
Because most of them are much better than original singleplayer campain. Anyone would tell you that.
And also i see you are not playing NWN2 , because to call its single player campain lacking. Is like saying that WOW has boring LORE. Oh but I have played the modules from NWN1. Personally I prefer MMOs to that kind of amateur-developed content. The fact that amateurs can produce modules that are as good as or better than the original campaign (which I don't dispute) is an indictment of the professional content developers, the way I look at things. But to each his own ... I prefer professionally designed online content a la the MMO to the amateur content produced by the NWN community. I agree that if you like the latter, then NWN is something you will like.
I find the NWN2 campaign just ... meh. It's like D&D meets KOTOR. The plot is predictable, the conversations are predictable, it's just .... meh. Your mileage may vary.
This game will probably please those who enjoy player made mods, but I'd rather play games made by gaming companies and not gaming enthusiasts personally. That's just my opinion though
That's my view as well. I know that others feel differently, but generally I find that professionally developed content is better than amateur content. It's less the case in NWN because the developers develop their content on a tool that has to be made feasible for an end-user to use to develop content, because that's a part of the game's "sell". So for me when I walk around the professionally designed content in NWN or NWN2, it feels like a bit of a bigger player-made content, which is ... dissatisfying. Again, your mileage may vary, and if you are the type who likes to play amateur developer or who likes the concept of free content and free online play, you may feel differently.

NWN2 owns the fools who waste their money on the game without reading the feedback from the people who are playing it now. It has all the earmarks of a poorly-coded game. it doesn't play smoothly for most people, the quest is very, very linear and a lot of people who are playing it are already losing interest. Overall, it's a love/hate game, I think, and the NWN1 fanbois and module community are fighting hard for their precious love, but the majority of people who are playing it are as frustrated as all get out with the clunky UI, camera and movement, never mind the fairly disappointingly linear storyline.
Games like this were great around 2000-2001. It's 2006 and we have different expectations now, and NWN2 didn't really even try to meet those expectations, which is why people are complaining about it.
Save your money for now, and wait to see if Obsidian fixes the gameplay issues before buying this one. Aww....what happened? Hardware not good enough for an install? Female avitars not hawt enough?
You have an awful lot of anger for a game thats only been out for 4 days buddy, espically on an MMO forum. From now on I susgest you not speak for everybody who plays this game, and get a grip on how the industry works. Awww, what happened? Can't be bothered to research the truth of something before you whip our your epeen and ridicule someone for not having good enough hardware? Maybe you should actually bother to go read the technical support forums for the game, where people with 3ghz+ cpus, dual nvidia 7900gts and 2 gigs of ram are complaining about framerate issues and poor performance.
"Get a grip on how the industry works?". Sorry.. plenty of companies are releasing games that aren't poorly performing, bug ridden piles of crap. Releasing NWN2 in the shoddy, unfinished state that it is in is entirely unacceptable.

No
And to tell you the truth , i am quite skeptical at this point.
The new thing is, you can not just connect to an online game. Now you have to download external files for each module (not only pw , as it was suspected). Now this is cumbersome , because it is not automatic , you have to download it from the web (or other outside source) - That means you need an URL , which perhaps you can read about in module description. But you can not copy and paste the adress, no... You should write it on the piece of paper before you procede to quit nwn2 and go download the module.
So you thought this is bad... well you are in for the big one, and i mean big !
I tried one beta PW. They even went out their war to make a small downloader for needed files (mind you - no hackpack, nothing but pure nwn2 files needed to run a new module). SoI see there is not 1 file , but over 30. But then i got a real shock
Complete downloaded folder size: 180mb !?!?!
And this is PW with no custom content, builded for few days now, so not so large at all...
So you tell me, what do you think ?
As i see it. Multiplayer in NWN2 will be impossible. Single player modules (or co op) will be excelent i am sure... but PWs ....

is it me or is there alot of whining complainers? this game is actually good, the storyline is done well, has cohesion, has relavance and stays structured, and there is alot to play with when it comes to its semi non-linearity with the choices you make in the game.
yeah i agree for how it looks the performance doesnt reflect that, so it could very well be a need to do some optimziations with the code in the engine. Ill grant that, but lets get real, the fun part of this game is the MP, and the player modules, and to those who say that player modules are crap, and amatue.
I am sorry, but its obvious you havent played some of those modules out there. Just do some searches, and youll find alot of them are to some degree are equal to, or rival the base SP campaign story. there are some true talent out there, and I for one give them credit where credit is due. either way this game is good, overall is stable, i myself have no real bugs I have yet to deal with. but to any extent this game overall is done well. whine if you will, whine if you must, but keep it to yourself and vent your frustration in the right areas, namely the website of the game so they know what the issues are. venting in here isnt going to get things fixed any faster.

I think NWN2 singlehartedly shattered my (allready shaky) faith in game industry.
Dont get me wrong NWN2 is excelent single player game , and with mods it will bring a lot of singleplayer(and co op) rpg fun.
But Atari/Obsidian blatantly disregarded that what made NWN the game it is was - Online PW
NWN1 was the game that you can play in anyway you like. You liked singleplayer, or co op, or DM runned adventures, or MMO ... you could played it in any way.
I read in some interwiew about NWN2 that Atari figured out that only 15% of nwn players were playing online! WTF ...thats all i can say.
Now instead of developing and improving multiplayer for NWN2.
It is like this: What is not broken , works same as in NWN
Talking about retroactive game development (reminds me of Ultima online and todays MMOs)
And this is something no patch would fix. It is hard coded
So what we have now.
Very good singleplayer D&D game. And definetly the end of great trip we called Neverwinter Nights
"Before this battle is over all the world will know that few...stood against many." - King Leonidas
5 minutes of NWN2 and stopped playing it, the camera problem really ruined it for me, and i seemed to suffer some laggy-effects(which is abit odd considering my good spec)
I have good faith in NWN2 online play still. The game just launched and NWN1 had problems when it launched too. Wasn't camera an issue back then as well?

My wild guess is that the publisher didn't want it to be too easy to replicate online PWs using NWN2's platform, given that they have a significant interest in the continued viability of DDO. It would make good business sense to make PWs more cumbersome in NWN2 to help to stave what they have to expect will be significant cross-product cannibalization in any case. I mean, NWN2 even ships with a free demo disc for DDO ... it's not hard to connect the dots.

...lol it seems to be having the same problems as the original. Camera and connecting. Still i adored NWN1 and im looking forward to playing this new one. Anyone remember the problems in multiplayer when there was a lot of people in the same spot. LOL the screen would freeze for a sec then you would be inside someonelse avater or even a door. Weird stuff. My point being it will all end up for the best in the future. Dont give up on it yet. I had some wonderful times playing other peoples mods and persistent world servers. The community was great with lots of player created content.
You know, i have been playing NWN2 for almost 3 weeks now.
And i just can not belive (from the standpoint of nwn1 fan) what happened here.
It is plainily obvious that
1.Very little time and money was invested in this game 2.Proggraming department was not consisted of brightest in the field 3.Graphic department was populated by begginers 4.Game was made with "Lets at least deliver something attitude" 5.Game designers completely misread/ignored what changes needed to be made from NWN1 6.The game never passed beta testing 7.The game was released before it was finished and it is missing content - both in graphic and sound... and probably more
So what happened ?
1. Bioware is for some reason pissed with WOTC or ATARI , so they decided to kill the franchise 2. Game was given to Obsidian - Who are known as "Write good story but know nothing about game design" 3. Atari, strugling to avoid bancrupcy, decided they will make a shure shot hit - that they knew will have a explosive sale (Sell lot at beggining, and than fail) so they made a following - They invested very little in the game (it is plainly visible) , and push/forced it release.
So what we got?
NWN2 is reskinned version of NWN1 at its best. It does bring some changes. But it is far far away from the leap succesor of "Best RPG of all times" (yes they advertise it like that)
Actually when you stop and think of it. When NWN1 came out it was really something - a quantum leap from 2d engines of Baldurs Gate. With all the bugs , the game was revolutionary.
NWN2 however , is far from revolutionary. Heck , it is sub par to most of RPGs today. It brings neither the quality nor the inovation.
It is reusing sounds from nwn1 for crying out loud!? How much a new sound recording would cost? And animations ! Motion capturing , it is a standard today ... and NWN2 has animations done by a 1st year student of graphic collegue (that apparently only knew how to use Granny for animations) - What a shame , hell i can make better animations...
There is some good points to the game however. But they are not booming, and also are not very good done. They are simple fixes to a six year old game...
All in all
I dont belive this game would be patched by Obsidian for much longer. It is obvious this was a "bomb hit" by Atari to cover the Bancrupcy ordeal. And Obsidians are just a kids on the block to fall for this deal.
Comunity will probably switch back to NWN1 , because NWN2 is the dead end. There will be no more...
There will be entusiasts, there always are. People are making patches for Troika's games , and some are even playing Fallout BTOS ...
But in reallity winter has dawned on Neverwinter Nights

Still im prepared to buy it even though im unemployed atm. My love for NWN1 plus waiting for this release for nearly 5 years is pushing me that way. But some of these opinions are giving me a funny feeling deep in my stomach. Surely a game so well loved cannot be brushed away. I was very accomplished with NWN1 toolset and won a prize for a mod I had created. How is the toolset in this version? Is scripting still a pain? What is the level limit 20 or 40? I dont really care for the singleplayer aspect as, well all of us here, are multiplayer players and that is where NWN1 shined.
Is there a Contest of Champions included where you can build an online character at full level without going through the campaign? Not that i did this much - just testing build was the main reason.
Can armour etc be customised, dyed, crafted offline in the toolset. I have read that any object can be resized and coloured. Is this true?
Are there mounts?? This was a huge subject a few years ago. We were promised mounts. I have seen no screenshots of mounts.
Cosmetically are the helmets now faceless allowing us to still see our characters faces, or just popping on a fullface helm like before?
Has anyone at leaset built a meeting room/mod online yet? Anything but the single player campaign online?. Have players started trying out their mods yet?

I have seen no screenshots of mounts. If mounts were the only thing missing. People would be quite happy. But NWN2 maps are so small that you dont need mounts anyway Cosmetically are the helmets now faceless allowing us to still see our characters faces, or just popping on a fullface helm like before? Helmets, handbands, eye patches, masks ... they fixed the problem Has anyone at leaset built a meeting room/mod online yet? Anything but the single player campaign online?. Have players started trying out their mods yet? Again, read up. In nwn2 you need to go out of the game and download the mod from creators website. Even if it is just an empty room. And meeting room would be quite pointless , cause everyone have to have that module downloaded... Thanks for your answers Needle the Rogue

I heard some PW designers with 'inside information' is waiting to launch until Dec 1, Obsidian is working on a solution for PW downloads.
The graphics aren't that bad, armour and placeables are great - more medieval style than NWN1. The things I didn't like was some of the faces on the PCs. I found that tweaking the settings made the game more than playable. I started with a whopping 5 fps, but now it runs smooth. And the official campaign is really fun and addicting.
NWn is a beginnen game lots of crap will get released like nwn1 the community made the game damn near the same is gonna happen too nwn2 most the damn feed back comes from morons who never even stuck around with part one.

Hey pally , i am like NWN no1 fanboy. And there was no game ever i expected more than NWN2.
I am not saying NWN2 will not have PW , it is true NWN1 also had its problems ... but on the end it was fundamentally possible to make PW for it.
But the word on the street that NWN2 engine , is even more limiting for multiplayer. And has MUCHO bigger problems that can never be fixed with any patch
like phisical limitation on how many maps a PW mod can have
Right now it stands at 120 wich includes every closed space like house, or whatever...
While NWN1 PWs had 1000 and counting.
Nothing will change the fact that when NWN1 was made - it was coded with MP in mind as a main thing (hence the OC was a crap load of shit)
And NWN2 was made with SP in mind

I am playing this game for a long time. I try to find the original post, but just couldn't, so I will join in this "usurper thread".
I gave Neverwinter Night 2 an initial score of 7/10. I slightly improve this score, however I would like to add, it is 7.5 + 1/10. Nope, it isn't 8.5/10, +1 stand for those who are D&D fans AND optimist. The game has definitely some flaws, I don't mind repeating them. I also would like to tell that whoever design the "Ghost Lights", /duel, you don't deserve to design! Damn you! "Ghost Lights" aren't challenging, they are boring, lamely designed, in a zone where you lag like hell, NOT fun...I would even add, they are "Bradish".
However, the story is nice, soo many good points. The dragon, the keep, the evolution...anyway, I am not finish yet with the game, but I am having a blast. It is better than NWN was, it outmatch(barely) ToEE, does it reach the Black Isle products(not the Xbox version, let's be serious)? Nope, it doesn't. But it is still quite a blast. The lag, although awful, is less bad in areas you frequent a LOT, which help reduce the aggravating factor of it presence.
Yup, 7.5+1/10, and if anyone find this +1 too hard to deal with, eh, this +1 isn't for everyone.

The game is rough around the edges, but as you progress trough , you start to see the good points.
As for multiplayer , there are few problematic things (and possible fixes)
1. You are forced to download files outside from the game -> this might be fixed and some internal downloader added
2. Files you have to dl are huge -> As i hear now , they are very compressable
Anyway
Obsidian are working hard like hell trying to patch the game (serves them well for releasing it so buggy)
Hopefully things will change soon.

Thanks for your answers

Just looks like they released a few weeks early.
