Again, what do you mean by "SOE's ignorant developers"? You've just read my post, and know they're the ignorant developers from Monolith, right?
Producer Dan "Walrus" Myers was merely community relations manager back then, and the developer known as "Rarebit" merely a mission writer. They've enhanced their duties, and you might argue that they aren't competent enough for them. But "SOE developers" doesn't make sense, that's really all I'm saying, even if it's nitpicking.
Also, Monolith's original programmers have released the game with tons of bugs, and have coded the game so invonveniently that it's often hard to change or introduce the simplest thing. So why put Monolith over SOE, if the game would be already dead under Monolith, and all upside they had (as far as I know) was a larger team and the LET.
And whoever decides to quote this post, don't give me anything about how MxO sucks and I'm a fanboy; this comment revolves about designer team and nothing else.
Go look for posts where I say "omg this game is the best out there", and attack me there.
Woot, MXO has a short staff with too many duties who work with an engine they don't understand. I think you ended up helping his point.
I just said what I know. All I argued about his point is the stuff about "SOE developers", which is really just a "semantic"(?) issue.
You know, it's all true, the game was coded poorly, released in a horrible state, doomed to death at Monolith and currently is understaffed and underfunded.
Maybe you'll really have an easier time with me when you realize that it's not my intention to spread positive information or opinion only and that if I help prove correctly negative statements or make one on my own, I'm very well concsious of it and you don't need to point me to that.
So, I'm not a promoter and you're not a stupid hater. What'd you say about ZippyDodah/Neolivesftw (if you happened to read DN1)? True, he did have a few valid points here and there, but do you seriously think posting leaked outdated lists and meaningless one-liner threads combined with Neo nonsense is not trolling and he does not have a vendetta against the game/community? How would that be better than what you call "marketing"?
In that case, it wouldn't be "throwing a tantrum", just stating facts that are not even insulting.
PS: If you're thinking about posting about "mindless rant without any direction", don't waste your time.

Yes but the vision is no longer in Monolith's hands, the employees mean nothing, all decisions are made from SOE's project managers. The employees from Monolith are there for a job and nothing else. I really think if Monolith still had it in their hands the game would still have some orginality and not SOE's nice taste of EQ mix.

Mature enough? Is it wrong to question the unquestionable? I'm not afriad to dig deep and call it for what it is.

One of "Rarebit"'s statements was like this: "Our only boss at the scene is Walrus, and he lets us do pretty much anything".
Walrus, again, is the game's former Community Relations Manager who additionally replaced the game's original producer shortly after after the transition (not sure about the time).
From this statement, and from the high impression of autonomy Rarebit shows through in many game design topics, I personally find it hard to believe that any "SOE suit" above Walrus actually makes any decisions about the actual game development - probably just the business stuff, considering even Rarebit and other Devs (one who left) seem to have their own projects and ideas.
Now, I don't know how it is in reality and this was just a conclusion, but a fair one I think.
Also, since we're talking about MxO's "uniqueness", I don't think the story and live events can be neglected. In this aspect, none of "SOE" has taken over the story aswell.
I know what the people with a negetive opinion will say...
"How can it be 'basically the same people as before' if they fired all but three devs for The Matrix Online?"
Ok, how about a recent official developer statement?
Rarebit:
"When the game was being developed at Monolith, Warner Brothers was funding a large team staffed around the clock with people paid to do nothing but run events. And once the game went live, the 60+ member development team were all working on updates for events. That was nice and all but it was incredibly expensive to run, and causing the game to lose money quickly. This could not go on, WB went looking for someone to take the game off their hands, SOE stepped up, and took on the part of the team that they felt they could afford to maintain, which was about a third of the dev team, and none of the live events team. Currently I spend one to three hours every work day running and planning daily events, which is about as much as I can manage."
60 devs? One third? Sounds like 20 to me.
And one important developer ("HCFrog") has left since then. Has anyone heard anything about further team reducement since the transition?
Until then, let's constitute:
There are about 20 developers currently working on The Matrix Online.
PS: I do realise that this is not a large number considering set standards and "optimal" game development. So whoever's already thinking out a response like this: "lol 20 devs? wtf, wow has 100, way to sell the game with 20 devs lolol" - might aswell forget about it.
There's a certain trend of esteeming the MxO team to 3 devs, probably based on three of them having forum nicks, and this is meant to end the rumor.
That was long time ago, when they were workign on the combat revision. Those numbers are not accurate, why don't you ask rarebit and see if he'll give you thew info? I'm willing to bet that there are no devs dedicated to MXO and it's a side project. 20 people working full time could not possibly produce so little.

I have several questions I want to ask Rarebit, the one about current developer size or, dunno, (partial or full) dev loss since CR 2.0, being the last one.
Although I think it has been asked several times and not answered...
Really, you could be right and there actually be only 3 devs, but I just posted a statement that makes it all look like there were about 20. He hasn't said "we have currently 20 devs", the entire quote is above and speaks for itself I think.

Merely a conclusion.
