Sadly I must pass on it, yes I know SOE will only host, and have no say in Development, but after going through SWG and what happened there i vowed not to finance any further Sony Online Project with any financial backing. It was hard to just delete the invatation, but it was just as hard to cancel my pre-order after Sony was announced to be onboard.
This has nothing to do with Brad, nor Sigal who I wish the best, Nor will I hijack, troll or flame any here. The bottom line is due to SOE being involved in any way shape or form I will not buy it, nor support it. A shame really, game looked great.
I wish all who try, and buy a great time, and will always wonder how great the game might have been...

    WOW

    simply wow!

this is something i could have written if i had the experience that so many did with SOE

I'm not paying for subpar games anymore.  Yeah, yeah, "MMO's are always evolving" but I am not putting up with this shit anymore.  This game will be released and be drasticlly different within 6 months.  Think of SWG CU and EQ2 class revamps.

It's not a finished product, so I'll let those fools that are willing to pay for beta, pay, and I'll make a decision 6 months from now.  Of course, there are quite a few other MMO's coming out this year that have promise, but I have very little faith in any MMORPG developer right now.

I really don't understand what is so hard for these guys to understand:  Most peoples don't want to raid and they don't want to see raiding enforced on them.  I don't care if someone who complete a doctorate in litterature is more worthy or less than me, in a game he is judge by what he is doing.  Now, enforcing raiding on groupers is a weak idea, and it hurt your fanbase in the long run...why do you think SoE fanbase is soooo limited?  With a success like EQ, it should have a decent fanbase.  But...it doesn't.
Doesnt WoW have a lot of raiding as their high end content?

And the game isn't forcing you to raid.  It has a mix of 20solo, 60% group, 20% raid if I do recall.

Blizzard has a stronger fanbase prior WoW than now.  Go on the Blizzard forums NOW and compare to what they where in 2003.  It is clear to everyone that their fanbase as significantly dimunished (aka the amount of fanbois and praises).  Raiding is hurting WoW, but WoW has the backing and the legacy from Blizzard helping them...a LOT.  Not only did they have a stronger fanbase back then, but now, they have to cope with haters...a LOT of haters...which was rare back then.  If the forums doesn't convince you, go visit the internet cafes and talk with the peoples, and ask the staff how it was 5 years ago (and make sure you manage to keep a neutral stance, so peoples don't guess what you want to hear, because of course, many peoples like to please their audience, period).

Comparing WoW to EQ isn't even remotedly fair, Verant did "awesome", they start from scratch.  Yet raiding did ruin the fanbase they could have developped.  Check BioWare when it is coming out if you want to compare it to Blizzard, and consider that BioWare doesn't have the support Blizzard have, yet it will still give you a good reading and...the fanbase will expand, while you won't see haters...since there is no reason to even hate them in the first place, unlike peoples who enforce raiding.  Raiding make some peoples leave later, but peoples leave ANGRIER, and this is an extremely poor long-term consequence...hurtfull.

Now, back to the definition of enforcing, as long as 1 hp is accessible only throught 1 way, it is enforced in theory.  20% is a LOT.

i'll make the decision once they finish OB.  as of now, it appears to be a relatively entertaining game with a few new twists to it.  nothing revolutionary, but then again, i definitely wasn't expecting it to be.  if they work out the major bugs--primarily around stability issues, they will have gone a long way towards getting me to buy the game.

    too early to tell.

At this point, my answer is no. I won't be buying it.

I wanted to like VSoH. I really, truly did. But my experiences in beta so far have left me completely underwhelmed. I can't believe that after so many years in development, this is the end result.

It's hard not to be disappointed right now. I was considering Vanguard as a return to fantasy-based MMO's, but I think I'll be waiting for at least 6 months, if not longer before investing any money in it. It's just got too many problems to justify spending any money on it.

I was really thinking from the hype that this would be a more FPS style but alas it is the same as Guild Wars, Star Wars, EQ2 and such.  The graphics are great my SLI 2 x 7900 cards did not choke once.  But I am going to have to pass also.  The one thing about  Guild Wars is at least they don't charge $12.95 a month for the same type of play.  I think SOE needs an  infusion of new blood, the same old thing is not what sets you apart from the others.

I think 50/50 is pretty good. Imagine any product you showed to people and tried to get them to buy it. You'd be happy if you could get 50% of those you showed your product to, to buy it, wouldn't you?

Except that you posted this in the vanguard forum on a 3rd party site so it's not 50% of those who it was shown to. It is 50% of those who cared about the game strongely enough to post about it on a 3rd party site. If you're counting "those who it is shown to" you could count 2 as "yes" and 18 as "no" for my guild alone. I'm sure other people have guilds that are the opposite, but your metric is pretty broken.

Edit: SOE Haters on this site also throw the population off the other way. Shrug.

Point taken. It isn't by any means a scientific poll, or even close.  "Those it was shown to" would of course  include only people on this forum that played the game, which is  a small subset of beta testers presumably. The only way to get a somewhat accurate poll would be to do a poll on the login screen of the actual beta.
