Everyone who thinks the devs are "holding back content and animations" you go ahead and waste your 50 bucks. Then come back and tell us how the game is the exact same. Nothing changes from open beta to launch except very minor tweaks.
It cracks me up when people think the game is going to do a 180 degree turn in a matter of weeks when it took years to get to the point its at now.
Obviously you never followed Dark and Light, fan boys there were screaming for months after SoG released that the devs had a whole new engine in the wings and were just waiting till June to patch it in. Hell some of em are still logging in every day and expecting the miracle patch I bet.
DukeLouie- yeah it will get better over time but think in terms of a few months or a year or so , not a few weeks. Sigil has more of a clue than Farlan did.
Rabbits hopping, deer frolicking, footprints in the snow, ect. this is all meaningless content as far as testing a game goes, this kind of content does not need to be in untill launch. Which is WHY I'm bringing up the point that maybe they chose NOT to put things in yet.
Same can be said for animations, they dont ALL need to be in right now, and I bet that they have many more animations that will be implimented at launch.
It is 3 weeks before release. This is part where they try and line up as many customers to plunk down 50 skins on a preorder as possible. Sorry but I don't believe in miracle patches anymore. For crying out loud, after Horizons, Dark and Light, and Mourning I am surprised anyone would believe that stuff anymore. If they had it they would have it in there to keep a**holes like me from pointing out it isn't there.
Exactly, Open Beta is as necessary for marketing as any interview, ad, et cetera. It's called Word of Mouth to help cushion those launch day sales.
So far, although I will give them the next 3 weeks to turn me around, my word of mouth is that I am glad I wasted $10 as opposed to $50.

That's called immersion and Vanguard doesn't have it. And if you think they're going to fix all the problems they have in a few weeks, you're kidding yourself, they've already had FIVE years!
Nah, this game is in trouble. It's irritating too because now I have to find something else to play.
You are completely missing the point, immersion can mean jack squat when a game is in beta. You think the dev's just left all the immersion to a huge world?, you don't think that years of experience has just gone over there head? You think that bunny346's snow print is off and needs to be adjusted should be on the top of IMPORTANT FIX'S? Again like I said before, I bet more than anything all that meaningless content is done and just waiting to be put in a launch.
Yeah ok, you go on believing that. And go on believing that "miracle" animation patches are waiting in the wings, they're just working on other things right now. Three weeks to fix that? C'mon...
There's a difference in being optimistic and unreasonable.

I think you should take a look at Lord of the Rings Online, when you can. It is in beta now. It has some nice immersive elements, such as those you mentioned above. Although most NPCs do not move around at all. A lot of these NPCs have quests to give, which is why I suspect it is helpful that they do not move. Do games need to be this "helpful" ? I don't think so. I'd prefer that NPCs have a path they follow until a player character gets near them, at which point they stop to look at you, and offer some greeting or request. It would also be cool to have different NPC activity-schedules (i.e. day or night) with different quests for each schedule

well Zakiah adding rabbit,s hopping , deer frolicking and all that certainly adds immersion to a game but alot of people such as myself could careless when am out exploring and sneaking around mobs that can kill me and make me have to deal with the death penalty , keeping an eye on the mobs and going about our business is enough And as far as npc,s doing a 10 foot move indoors at night why would i care really am not going to make buds with him and hangout all day together the time i spend with him is minimal as far as the overall scope of the game the ones that are not vendors and trainers do move around thats enough for some of us A game is what you make of it and am sorry those tiny little things are enough to spoil the immersion

Well that's fine, to each his own. I'm sure there are a lot of people willing to pay for EQ 2.5 so you'll have some company.

Just leave already, these stupid threads and your stupid commentary grow tiring. We know you don't like the game. We know you're a hater. Do yourself (and us) a favor and get lost. It's that time!

Heh, well now that was constructive. And for the record, I'm not a hater, I'm a realist. I want to like this game but can't in its current condition. I'm pleased that we all can disagree in such a loving manner. In the immortal words of Rodney King, "ccccan't we all just get along?"

I've never complained about the amount of content but if the game isn't fun to play why would I want to explore all the content? The game is boring and lackluster so it really doesn't matter what all there is to see. Millions of hours of content won't change the fact that the animations and gameplay is horrible. If they can fix that (I'm not optimisitc, at least not for maybe six months or more at best) then I might actually dish out the cash to play. As it is now, I'm not going to cash out a nickel for this horrid game.
The animations and combat aren't horrible, your computer is just average. Vanguard is a brand new game. You need a computer that was born within a year of it. It's always been like that with gaming and PC's. Always will be. If you don't think Vanguard is good enough to upgrade for you better be ready for it with Age of Conan. Then when you're bored with that you can come and try Vanguard again and say "Wow they fixed it!".
There is no excuse anymore for MMOs to have mannequin NPCs permanently rooted to the ground. And even more so the mobs we hunt standing around in groups, rooted to the ground and magically respawning out of thin air.
If you've never played Saga of Ryzom, download the free trial just to see the way the ecology works. It's second to none in my opinion. Animals migrate and move in packs etc, predators roam around and hunt other mobs as well as you.
And SoR is a year or three old now. As we as being very much a 'budget' engine and game.
To have static mobs spawning on a predetermined spot over and over is not just counter-productive, but it's a step backwards in terms of 'next gen'ing' the MMO genre. It's more of a de-gen.
Any MMO with static mobs and NPCs lacks immersion in my books... Is a shame to hear this is taking the same route.
So that said, is Vanguard supposed to be a 4th Gen/Next Gen MMO? Or is it more a 'best of' 3rd Gen setup? I don't ask that as a flame, but I mean it as in "What were the Devs intending to achieve?"

Put quite simply, NO. If this is your idea of "trying to like the game", then I don't want to see what happens when you stop "trying". If you don't like the game, GREAT. Just stop telling us already!

If you want to believe it or not, Zekiah is doing just as good a service to the greater Vanguard community as yourself.
Not everyone who visits this forum is a pre-ordering Vanguard fan hyped for release. There are some of us here who are somewhat interested but want to get a wide variety of reports on the state of the game before we go handing over $80 and a subscription fee (especially so for those of us who can't trial it ourselves).
And so, if Zekiah and his ilk didn't post their first hand views on the game, all we'd see is AA's "This is the best MMO eeeever!" type posts, which even you have to admit is not indicative of the game as it currently stands. If Zekiah did bugger off and no longer post here, those of us truly interested in seeing both sides of the coin would in fact not.
And that's what these forums are for. Debate and discovery. Not fanboyism and promotion.
Whether you like to admit it or not, Zekiah and the other 'haters' (which seems to be anyone with anything remotely bad to say) are as much in the right to post about what is wrong with VSoH as you are to talk about what is so right.
Remember D&L? There were actually fanbois (paid or not, who knows) talking about how much that game rocked pre-SoG. And there were genuine community members here who were frothing at the mouth to play it. They simply couldn't wait!!
Now if everyone who experienced that pile of sheet hadn't come on here and countered the posts about how it was the MMO with the greatest potential ever, those who didn't get to try it but were genuinely interested would have gone out and bought it.
Now I am in no way comparing VSoH to D&L, but the principle still stands. VSoH is obviously not the pristine genre shattering release that people were hoping it to be, so it is only fair that we hear the "why"s of what is lacking, just as we enjoy the good points and the "Will be in after release (tm)"'s.

Even if true why does that make his opinion any less valid? I am sure that there are people who made a account just so they could hype the game also. The number of 1 and 2 post count people who are consider the game as the best thing since sliced bread are proof enough of that.
Let me ask you....did you guys play past level 10? I didnt think so.....this game really shines after lvl 10....the first 10 levels are newbie levels.....compare it to the first 10 lvls of our favorite game.....dont compare it to a complete game that has been out for years. If you actually read the quests and take part in the diplomacy the lore and the feeling of the game is awesome....start in the Wood City and go through the diplomacy, it has an awesome story about how the Raki actually decended from another planet..
Why is there such hatred for VG? There always has been even way before beta....people think its cool to just say they hate SoE....meanwhile if you knew anything SOE is not involved in any of the development of VG, they are only publishing....the only downfall unforutately is that for financial reasons the game is going to be released a couple of months earlier than expected....but the devs are working around the clock to get the game running the way thwy want....geez there were 2 patches yesterday and my performance is the best it ever has been. Give the a game a legitimate chance before you give up on it.
I can't express how much I agreee with you! People give the game a chance. Don't give in to the mass hysteria of bashing this game. PLAY it, play it for more than 30 minutes and you will se that the game is great already and has potential to be absolutely outstanding.
Been in beta since beta 3 and I can honestly say the only thing that they have improved are the graphics with avatars, quest and class bugs. "VSOH" is not a finished product and will not be on release day (two classes missing anyone?), I actually love the game for the graphics and the learning curb involved but I cannot give a good argument to anyone on these boards as to why you should spend $50-$90.00 on a unfinished product.
"Would you go to McDonald's and spend $3.80 for a raw hamburger and frozen uncooked fries?" I would expect the same answer for "VSOH", actually I would suggest waiting maybe 2-3 mos after the game goes live before buying (wait until they patch in the rest of the stuff). I also wanna point out that every game that SOE has been involved with has been pushed out before it was complete SWG lacking weapons, classes and armors even when certs were ingame, then having to rebalance every class afterwords because the intro of the class or weapon/armor was not implemented correctly (same with EQ1 and 2).
The problem with waiting half a year until its fixed is that many people dont like to play "catch up" with the majority of players on their server. Some areas and dungeons quickly fall out of grace, and can never be done in groups again, when the main crowd is past them. WoW showed that quite well, EQ2 even better, DAOC too..... once the levelling process gets streamlined and conventions are set, you wont be playing the game the way you would have been at start.
Also, the main guilds are formed, and if you are unlucky, you have a hard time getting into one.. thats just the nature of these games, their communities evolve and advance.
So, either you get this golden "newbie" age with lots of people at the same stage, but a bad game, or you wait, get a better game, but lose out of the magic of the beginning.
I for one would never want to miss that time of an MMO.

No sorry but people with the top of the line computers are saying the same thing. A better computer may help the performance settings but not animations, those won't change.

But when the subscription base starts to dwindle, just know that I told you so...

Yah, I'll do that and when the game is still around in a few years with a solid sub base come talk to me. You are not trying to "raise awareness" about anything. Like many others your posts are not constructive, merely hate (either because you don't like SOE, your PC is dated junk or Vanguard isn't what you wanted). Instead of moving on to something that may be more suited to your tastes, you've decided you're going to come here everyday and repeat the same negative things over and over again. That's really productive I'll say it again, there is nothing more pathetic than a person who spends his/her life hating on a video game.
I'm no Fanboy BTW, the game has some big issues to overcome, but it has a good foundation and I am enjoying myself and in my world, thats what counts. I have nothing against people criticising the game when it is done in a constructive manner but I am sick to death of guys like you who live to try and tear things down with their non-constructive negativity. It's tired and old. Have the common sense and respect for others to state your case and then move on. Staying here and hating will change nothing. You'll still be that angry guy sitting at his computer seething for no good reason over the state of a game you have no intention (by your own account) of playing.
Well to try an d get the topic back on thread it is the little things like the one I described in my first post that really makes this game seem amateurishly developed. Even DAoC when it released had wandering guards along the roads and the towns were populated. The cities in EQ II are bustling and alive with people, makes me feel as if I am in the game, not just playing it.
I want to see blacksmiths blacksmithing, chickens running around the farmyard, NPC's that are more than just placeholder mannequins with no more life than a mission terminal in SWG. I want to see life in the cities, fluff mobs in the countryside and hear the noise of horses shuffling about and neighing when I am at the stables.
Like I have said in other posts even if Vanguard ran at 60 FPS and I enjoyed the timesinks I could not give the game more than a C+ because of the overall amateur feel of the game. This is far from a third generation game and does not even meet second generation standards. It is EQ1 in prettier graphics and that is all. Pretty graphics get old fast, it is the game play which will retain subscribers and Vanguards just is not there.

Even if that were true (and I'm not saying it is) EQ1 is still around, disproving your theory that there is no market for a game like Vanguard. You don't enjoy the gameplay within Vanguard (and feel it necessary to patronize people who do, which is pathetic and reeks of insecurity) but others do. The BETA servers are always packed. You seem to spend most of your time here telling us how bad Vanguard is. It seems to be your "raison d'etre". I find that very sad TBH. If that's all you have, then I feel truly sorry for you. My advice is to find a game you DO enjoy and start playing. There is more to life than hating a game you are not even going to play!

It would also be cool to have different NPC activity-schedules (i.e. day or night) with different quests for each schedule
That's called immersion and Vanguard doesn't have it. And if you think they're going to fix all the problems they have in a few weeks, you're kidding yourself, they've already had FIVE years!
Nah, this game is in trouble. It's irritating too because now I have to find something else to play.
well Zakiah adding rabbit,s hopping , deer frolicking and all that certainly adds immersion to a game but alot of people such as myself could careless when am out exploring and sneaking around mobs that can kill me and make me have to deal with the death penalty , keeping an eye on the mobs and going about our business is enough And as far as npc,s doing a 10 foot move indoors at night why would i care really am not going to make buds with him and hangout all day together the time i spend with him is minimal as far as the overall scope of the game the ones that are not vendors and trainers do move around thats enough for some of us A game is what you make of it and am sorry those tiny little things are enough to spoil the immersion

Well that's fine, to each his own. I'm sure there are a lot of people willing to pay for EQ 2.5 so you'll have some company.well Zakiah adding rabbit,s hopping , deer frolicking and all that certainly adds immersion to a game but alot of people such as myself could careless when am out exploring and sneaking around mobs that can kill me and make me have to deal with the death penalty , keeping an eye on the mobs and going about our business is enough And as far as npc,s doing a 10 foot move indoors at night why would i care really am not going to make buds with him and hangout all day together the time i spend with him is minimal as far as the overall scope of the game the ones that are not vendors and trainers do move around thats enough for some of us A game is what you make of it and am sorry those tiny little things are enough to spoil the immersion

In the immortal words of Rodney King, "ccccan't we all just get along?""Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it.

I'm pleased that we all can disagree in such a loving manner. In the immortal words of Rodney King, "ccccan't we all just get along?"Put quite simply, NO.

Oh. My. God.
He registered so he could hate. All his posts are Vanguard bashing posts. He's been a member for 4 or 5 days FFS. I have no problem with people criticising the game. I have my own complaints about it but that guy is just a hater, pure and simple.
I miss DAoC

That should be your new sig.

No sorry but people with the top of the line computers are saying the same thing. A better computer may help the performance settings but not animations, those won't change."Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it.
