Link us two screenshots. One with a UI is a plus.

    Thanks

I smell RealmCrafter. Although the graphics didn't have that Blitz 3D look so you could be using the Torque MMOKit. I'm still betting RC since your loading screens are ungodly long and I don't remember Torque taking that long to load an area.

    Two words of advice:

    1) post a screenshot section on  your webpage.

    2) show some footage of combat in your demo video. It would also help if you gathered 5 more people for the combat reel. The server may be completely empty right now, but even showing a small group fighting will make the game seem less vacant.

Don't get the tone of this post wrong. I'm glad that you're setting up a small MMO. I've been saying for years that MUDs are about to go graphical, and this just proves it. The one thing that the doomsayers on this board tend to overlook is the fact that bandwidth and rackspace are getting cheap enough for hobbyists to take advantage of now. This means that more projects like yours will be moving MMOs in directions that big money games can't. The downshot of all this is that the MMO market in the west is about to resemble it's Asian counterpart. Lots of free amateur games and most of the crap. But anyone that remembers the FPS mod community knows that there's a kind of  "trickle up" phenomenon between indies and "legit" developers.

Keep workin' on it and best of luck

After the patch that has been released one of the changed made is that the zones got bigger so that there are now less loading screens, I shall change the video soon to show you what has been changed after the patch

    Hey everyone,

I am D3luxe, the creator and owner of RoE. Yes, this is being made with Realmcrafter as I am only a one man team, so anything else would be unfathomable.

I am currently working on armors and items so that they change the appearance, and I was neglecting taking screenshots until after I got some worthy looking characters and scene's, but since you guys would like some I am more than happy to take some. I am going to take a new video as well that shows some of the updates.

I have only been working on RoE for a couple of weeks now, that is why it is still in heavy beta with not many features on the website, but I am constantly fixing bugs and working on new things for the game.

Hopefully I can answer any questions you guys are having regarding RoE, and I'll have screenshots and a new video up ASAP.

Just wanted to let you guys know there is a new video up

I am currently working on getting some screenshots up..the album on the RoE site is giving me trouble..

That last video was much better. Unfortunately, I feel compelled to "go there" out of curiosity....

How many people can you host at once? I've heard some very bad things about RC's bandwidth usage. Solstar insists that the netcode is beyond solid, but I've heard horror stories of massive lag with 10 players connected over a 10Mb LAN connection.

You look like you're making some pretty good progress though, just a little extra flash and more appropriate combat animations (why were you stabbing enemies with a mace?) and you'll be sitting pretty. Provided that RC can hold a good number of clients without crashing or lagging to a stop.

  • D3luxeD3luxe Member Posts: 27
I'm not sure on how many people I can host at once, but I havn't maxed out yet. Currently I am just running it on one of my older gaming computers (about a year old), so it should be able to hold a few. Since I have such a small community right now, I am running it on the gaming computer, but if/once I get more people that want to play at the same time, I am going to get a dedicated server to use, as well as link up a few servers together so that more users can play. I have a 100mb/s connection, and there have been about 5 users on with no lag whatsoever,

Yeah, I still have a lot of work to do, but I havn't been working on this game for very long plus I am a one man team, but it'll come along in a little while, hopefully. I am currently trying to learn some more 3D Modeling, as I am only a novice in 3D Modeling, so that I can start creating custom models for RoE. Hopefully in a few months I can start putting custom character models in, and hopefully within the next couple of weeks start putting custom items, such as weapons, armors, buildings, etc.

Is this a joke???  I have Realm Crafter too...  This is the DEMO game the give you as a n example!!!  you did no work at all dude...  Make your own game!
  • nomadiannomadian Member Posts: 3,490

Tried that realmcrafter demo, pretty cool. A bit like the world editor in WC3.
Edit: haha this company must be raking it in from mmorpg wanabees, $100 for the program, then more for animations and that.

SBC, please learn what you are talking about before you post in my thread again. This WAS the demo, yes, but I have, and I still AM adding and changing things. Did you even play the demo? If you did, you would know how many loading screens there were. You would know that the second gnome merchant did nothing. You would know that there were no monsters. You would know that there was no music. You would know that the forest would glitch when going in it from the meadows, making you load over and over. Since you think you have everything about my game figured out, since it is ONLY the demo, according to you, then props to you for making bullshit assumptions. Again, learn what you are talking about before you post in my thread. Try reading what I have to say and reading the announcements on my site before you make assumptions as to how my game will be going.

    [/rant]

nomadic, it isn't quite like WC3's editor. It is a bit tougher, and includes scripting instead of picking premade commands. And, my game isn't the demo, so what you played isn't my game..

    Is this true?
Can anyone one else confirm or deny?

Err well you are the guy making it so of course you would have faith in your own product.

Also making a game with realmcrafter is not "really making a game". I see it more as a mod, but it can be a good practice before trying to learn real coding.

Jello, how is it a "mod" exactly? You customize the scripts, customize the maps, customize the graphics, customize the commands, customize the items, customize the models, customize the monsters..everything..how would that be a mod exactly? It isnt a prebuilt game that you are just changing a few things on.

    You lose.

If you're going to use a premade kit to write an MMO, at least have the sense to change the name of the game to something other than the demo game. Even better, have the sense to scrap the demo game altogether and write everything new from scratch. You're going to have a hard time getting people to take you seriously if you keep half-assing everything.

  • D3luxeD3luxe Member Posts: 27
Aethios, what the HELL are you talking about?

First of all, I DID change the name, Realm Of Elonia is my name, not the name of the demo.

Second, as I said before, GIVE IT TIME. Do you think Blizzard made WoW in two weeks? No. Do you think Arenanet made Guildwars in two weeks? No. I am working on new towns and cities right now to replace the current ones from the demo. Before you start making assumptions get your facts straight. I am not half-assing things. Have you even done anything productive? Probably not, and if you have then please correct me with proof. As I told the other guy, if you have nothing constructive to say, get out of my thread.

Last, people ARE taking me seriously. I have been offered tons of help, I have a decent userbase on this "half-assed" game after only a week and a half, and I am already getting donations even. I don't know what your story is exactly, but it seems to me you have nothing better to do than make weak attempts to put down people that are doing better than you,.

I'm not using half of someone else's game and calling it my own.

  • D3luxeD3luxe Member Posts: 27
That wasn't my question. If you think that creating an MMORPG by yourself with no funds and no job at 16 is easy, then I would LOVE to see you make an MMO that blows WoW out of the water. And I wasn't calling it my own, I have said on my forums and on other forums that I visit, INCLUDING here, that it IS NOT COMPLETELY MY WORK, BUT I AM WORKING ON CREATING MY OWN. Do you not know how to read?
  • tubelighttubelight Member UncommonPosts: 276
taking someone else's premade game and adding new stuff to it is called "MODDING". For example, what Battlefield Vietnam was for the Battlefield 1942 series or what Counterstrike was for Half Life.
