adhesive, the point that you FAIL TO GRASP IS that no other MMO currently has ALL of those features included in one, until now in VSoH. That is the OP's plight. But of course, you half-wittedly go on to take the OP's post appart without realizing his plight. These types of posts are truely without merrit. Now please don't go thinking that I making you out to be an idiot. I'm simply loath to see how you're engaging in the actual debate that the OP was arguing.
Just got out of remedial english, eh? I was arguing FOR Vaguard, that is HAS those features. I was showing that the person picking on the "OP" was incorrect. Please, do me a favor and either apologize die. Or both, that could be fun.

I made a similar mistake myself earlier in this post where I accredited a post to Getalife that was actually done by coffee. It happens... let's try to keep the thread from being locked.
Seriously though, at least TRY and contribute to the thread. Or, perhaps something that will make people laugh, or I don't know... just something.... productive.
Why don't you get a toon past level 30 and come back here making those same statements..Nothing so revolutionary?? I'm getting sick of thse people who tried VG for 4-7 hours getting a character to maybe level 10 max then see them coming on here bashing the game telling us its just like any other mmo,its boring, the quests suck,no good rewards, blah blah..Since when do u see any of this in any MMO in the early levels??? NAME ONE MMO THAT HAS ENABLES YOU TO EXPERIENCE ALL THE WONDERFUL FEATURES IN THE FIRST 10-20 LEVELS!!!!!!! EVERY MMO STARTS THE SAME..Boring,dull,and weak.. You start off by getting familiar with the game, its controls, the world, quests, your starting areas,etc..EVERY MMO STARTS OUT THE SAME!! WHY WOULD THAT CHANGE???
Everytime I read something like that, I tell myself: Eh, another poor soul who never try CoH/CoV!
Your right,I never tried COH/COV..I was going to,but I'd prefer to stick with medieval fantasy MMO's.. Actually when I quit WoW last year,I had COH in my hands and almost got it..Instead,I decided to give DAOC another chance. After playing that for a few weeks,I went through a phase of retrying Shadowbane,Ryzom, and a few other mmo's..I probably should have tried COH.. Ah well..

Well, EQ 2 isn't all that either. I played it and I left after about 3 months and have never ever missed it or even thought of returning to it. Same thing with WoW. Seems like you spend all your time loading in from one place to another, even if it was next door you had to load in. God, how I hated that.
If anything, the most over hyped, over rated game in the gaming world is WoW , plain and simple. Don't kid yourself of it being the best or anything close to it. Wait is this EQ part 3 or Vanguard? WTF? what was the hype all about? i am still leveling and grinding but .. i am really disappointed. The hype is going to kill this game. There is no way in hell i am going to leave Everquest 2 for it.. never.
It will never have the player base like WOW or EQ2 i think this game will appeal to only selected few and if you have already played EQ then there is nothing new in here. I was surprised how fast leveling was in beginning and which is a good thing but later on it really slows down. The combat system is joke and graphics are good if your computer can handle it but more or less everything is same. Not many good quests at the moment. For now crafting is the only thing i am enjoying and thats the only thing which sets it apart from other MMO's.
But it's still beta and i am giving it a chance.. but what the f** was all the hype about this game? I am sure SOE employees have made 100000000000 mmorpg accounts and posting all over this board giving this game glowing reviews. After having first hand experince with SOE in Stars Wars Galaxies i am sure they can stoop to any level.
And yeah 27 gig.. thats how much place this game needs. What a system hog. I hope LOTR and Conan bring out something fresh and different. Vanguard is old wine in new bottle.
I will save my money and i am passing this one. Back to EQ2 once i am done with this beta for good.
Some things that are DIFFERENT in Vanguard than EQ2 or WoW:
1) Real-world Player housing
2) Player controlled flying mounts
WoW will have them in 4 days when the x-pac goes live... technicaly b4 VG has them.
3) Combat on mounts
4) Player-built & controlled ships
5) Fellowship system
6) Caravan system
7) Crafting system
WoW has crafting so do most other MMO dont they?
8) Character creation system
I seem to remeber creating a character to play WoW... yeah im sure of it.
9) Unique class abilities (Necro's Abom. & Druid's weather spells for instance)
Dont all class have unique skills?
10) The size of the world!
Yes how I enjoy running for 5mins over an unpopulated desert to get to the next town.
But yeah, except for all those things and the many more which could be listed. It's EXACTLY the same.
Yeah you can fly in 3 or 4 specific zones. You can't fly across the entire world with your mount. The world of Warcraft is kind of hollow at spots and Blizzard needs to keep you out of these places.
Crafting in WoW is a joke. You press a button and it makes something for you. Don't compare WoW crafting to any other game, because it's a joke.
Once again the character creation in WoW is a joke. There is nothing cutomizable about it at all. 2-3 faces some hairstyles and facial hair and that is it. Can't change your build, or even your height. Vanguard you can change everything down to the shape of your cheek bones.
Don't compare anyt game with WoW, it just don't match up in any area. Unless you want something that is really... really... easy.
You are correct sir, this game is a complete port over of everquest to an unreal game engine.Stick to eq2 its more refined and you dont need a massive upgrade to play it.Well unless anyone actually think DIPLOMACY wasn't a complete waste of time and extremely boring.Where this game will hook people is in the mounts.I know there is alot of people who get all google eyed over mounts. To me it is all about gameplay the mounts i couldn't care less about, niche ideas don't hook me line an sinker.I remember horizons,it seemed 90% of there subscriptions were players that think its cool to be a dragon rflmao, they coulda sold those players a cheese grater as long as they let them have there dragons, they'd be happy.RF online, give them there BMAU and the rest of the game could be a egg carton and theyd be happy.Give these guys griffons and tigers to mount there happy with there eq2 i mean eq3 lol.
This is nothing more than a EQ2 exspansion pack.I do have to give them some credit in fixing a problem EQ and eq2 had. That is mobs going through walls and getting stuck underground,i thought that was a complete joke in eq2 and there team should be embarrassed,it was never fixed. At least i didn't come across this happeniong in vanguard.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
They would actually have to program mobs going through walls to make it happen with the Unreal Engine. However, I have seen mobs stuck in the ground and Mobs detecting me through walls running in all of which directions to kill me which could be corrected if the Mobs threat radius detected collision meshes, that is even if they put collision meshes on the model; but considering I am not going through the ground when I die its in there.
I agree with you though its a very niche game. There are a few things I would want to do in the game; but there is absolutely no optimization in the game; and you can tell the modelers haven't heard of low poly before wasting thousands of polies on the support structure for a roof.
If the modelers and textureres actually gave a damn about doing a descent job at making this game playable by the general public it would have been descent. A building no matter how important shouldn't be over 2000 polies in an mmo; especially a seamless mmo. But there are simple overhangs in this game far higher then that. I will leave actual art direction out of this since I have a lengthy objection to why and how it looks.
Then you can tell how lazy the "Game Designers" were with the stories. The stories were just so generic and didn't real show a sense of emotion or optional choices that the player would make. In the elf area, it outright assumed my character was an outstanding citizen despite me doing evil acts and nothing to actually change that deamenor. I even chose to side with the evil faction; but in the end the quest arc had me killing people of the faction I wanted to be with. Also the Level Design needs alot of work and has that 6th Grade Modder feel to it.
LOL! Yeah, it wouldn't have anything to do with that 27GB size being touted across the forums for awhile now - even though it's WRONG. Heh. But, good to see you're coming clean on that one.
For the record, the installation size used to be about 24 gig. They seem to have done some shrinking since Beta 3.
Wait is this EQ part 3 or Vanguard? WTF? what was the hype all about? i am still leveling and grinding but .. i am really disappointed. The hype is going to kill this game. There is no way in hell i am going to leave Everquest 2 for it.. never.

Good point!
Let's not compare any game to the most succesful MMO ever created. They would all fail in comparison.
Yea, Im a WoW player. I enjoy WoW and so it seems do 8 million other people. But Im open minded, I wanted to give this game a shot and eventually... probably will. I cannot comprehend why they would release the game not even 2 weeks after the 1st WoW expansion however. They've losted a certain % of possible buyers already by setting that release date. GG
Hopefully, after Ive explored the Burning Crusade and such, I will try this game out as it looks like a very interesting game. Horrible decisions from management however to release a game that "Apparently" isnt ready, 2 weeks after 8 million possible buyers will be fully leveling to 70 and exploring the new raid/dungeons.

Also take into consideration while Vanguard is hyping these flying mounts to no end, you won't be getting one right off the bat. It will take you about... 4 or 5 months to be high enough level to get one, if the leveling curve hasn't changed much.
The flying mounts are level 40+, and if I recall correctly, the first person in Beta 2 hit lvl 50 (max level) playing for.... 3 or 4 months, 12 hours a day /played.
My times could be off, but you guys really need to quit talking like you log in, make a new character and get a free flying mount.
Well, EQ 2 isn't all that either. I played it and I left after about 3 months and have never ever missed it or even thought of returning to it. Same thing with WoW. Are you saying that Vanguard will surpass WoW in subscriptionns (If you are, please go check into a mental institution, because you are truely insane), or that it will surpass EQ 2 in subscriptions (Possible, but it will never overcome a crappy start, as we have seen many many times before).
If you're tired of instances WoW is not an option. Hell Vanguard is the only option =(. I liked WoW but instancing kills a lot of the social aspect for me. WoW is about loot whoring and that's it. Even PvP is about loot whoring. People want to get to 70 so that they can GET BETTER LOOT. I imagine this game will be similar but I hope the community is a bit better. Running MC/BWL (quit before AQ came out) was fun the first few times you learned a mob. After that it just sucked monkey nuts. Not too mention Blizzard's balancing for the lowest common denominator. "This class requires some skill to use! Uh-oh better buff it for the people who can't figure out how to use abilities properly!"
don't even get me started on what instances did to PvP... /cry I really liked that game.
Ahh well I'll see how VG is before release day and then see how the first 3 days of pre-orders goes and then maybe jump in head first or possibly wait for some more fixes to go through. It's pretty fun now but release day always seems to be less stable than beta.
Also take into consideration while Vanguard is hyping these flying mounts to no end, you won't be getting one right off the bat. It will take you about... 4 or 5 months to be high enough level to get one, if the leveling curve hasn't changed much.

I just quoted you, not becuase of something you said wrong or anything, but because you talked about flying mounts.
My goodness, granted flying mounts look and probably are cool. But people are treating the whole flying mounts as THE THING that makes the game awesome. What till make or break the game, IMO is:
#1-Is the game fun?
#2-Is it accesible to people that dont have latest state of the art computers?
#3-Does it provide with tons of content and options so you dont finish it in a month?
Very simple question that I beleive are crucial to any game. Whether the game has mounts, and PvP while flying and mounted.. mehh.. ok nice little trick. But that is only 1 little, VERY little piece of the game as a whole. Im not buying a game, (or keep playing a game) bc it was cool mounts.
I blog for GamingWeez. Do you? Discuss everything MMO related in a community that lets YOU be the blogger. www.GamingWeez.com
I have a little question.. I'm not trying to incite animosity or anything, but this is what I asked myself when I thought Why am I playing vanguard for 7 hrs a day.
"Do I love this game?"
So I asked myself and the answer was no. Truth is I was playing vanguard because of Brad, and because it was "supposed" to be the next big thing. But truth is they have made the MMORPG we all needed 3 years ago, now we need something completely different.
OK the freedom at the minute is unparalleled. But why in gods name destroy it with a level system ?
We all scream for complex crafting - but why kill it with such an over complicated button mashing procedure. EQ2 crafting was good, SWG was superb.
Mounts - Mounts are a cool feature, but I have to ask myself, aren't mounts just flavour of the month with us gamers?
Classes - Yep, nothing special here.. move along..
Large world - Admittedly it is nice, it is very nice, I logged into a coastal area, and thought wow, this is really great. Then I realised I was getting 8 fps.
All these bad points and not many good points. I will apologise on behalf of us all. We are all jaded veteran mmorpgers. We log into a game and before we can spend 10 minutes inside it we pick it to shreds and dismiss it saying No, thats crap!
I guess it is hard not to pick faults in games when they all try and emulate each other. Lesson to game developers.. INVENT things, and maybe the veteran community will stand by you for a little longer.
This is a harsh comment, but I am looking forward to LOTR online more than vanguard. And that says alot!
Originally posted by silly2k2 We all scream for complex crafting - but why kill it with such an over complicated button mashing procedure. EQ2 crafting was good, SWG was superb.
I'm curious, you say "why kill it with over complicated button mashing" and EQ2s crafting system is nothing but a ton of button mashing... but then you claim EQ2's was good?
I personally hated the original EQ2 tradeskill system and hate the current one. It's boring and puts me to sleep. I last about 10 minutes before I start zoning out and lose interest. I am not some child with ADD, I just don't play games to mash buttons while trying to make the green bar pass the blue one and finish.
The only crafting system I've ever liked, WoWs. It was something I could do while questing and leveling up and not something that forced me to stop questing and leveling to work on. Granted a lot of the items are mostly junk at upper levels but that's not a problem with the mechanics.
I haven't even bothered with VGs tradeskill system. Seeing as they left things like corpse runs and left out instancing I can't imagine it's anything but a rehash of the old systems I've long since dropped.

I understand I have thick skin anyways even if I was insulted.
But to answer your questions...
1. For me personally, no. But this is related to #2 partly...
2. Yes, kind of. There are alot of reports of issues with Nvidia video cards. So two 1 year old PCs, the exact same in every aspect except for one has an ATI video card, the other with an Nvidia video card (assuming for all purposes that the 2 cards bench mark for roughly the same), the Nvidia will have alot more problems. Its just poor coding.
3. Yes, but I am one of the kind of people who find their own entertainment in a game. I played WoW, explored EVERY nook and cranny in the game (There is some weird stuff in the world that is very hard to access. Goblin mining site in the middle of some moutains that should be impossible to get into for example).
Vanguard offers alot to do, but the world feels lifeless. WoW always felt alive. Saga of Ryzom feels alive.
People may say go into a city full of people and it is alive. I can go out into a forest in real life and it feels alive. I can go into a forest in WoW and while not super realistic, it does feel alive.
Let's not compare any game to the most succesful MMO ever created. They would all fail in comparison.

I never said WoW wasn't popular. I said it was easy and lacked depth in its gameplay. If you like a game that is easy that is your choice. I personally play games for the challenge, but that's just me.
Facts are facts
WoW's character customization is very very... very limited

How do any of those 3 options make a game challenging?
Now, if you had said running back down 3 levels of a dungeon, naked, to get your corpse back was a challenge I might have agreed. On the other hand I consider that just being a masochist. It doesn't make the game more fun and all it really does is make you not want to die which just makes you not do anything challenging to begin with for fear of having to have to do the whole naked CR to begin with.
VG challenging? To enjoy yes. Innovative and challenging gameplay? No.

I wasn't listing things that made the game challenging. I was reemphasizing the points I made in my last post because the person who replied ignored them. That doesn't change the fact that WoW is simply the easiest MMORPG on the market. Of course it's popular, anyone can easily get into the game without any experience or effort. Why do you think Windows is the most popular operating system? Does that make it the best? You can of course make an arguement for it, but that just makes it your opinion. It's all relative.
I'm not trying to say that Vanguard is an innovative game or even that good, but it isn't as bad as people make it out to be and if they had fixed all the bugs and glitches and optimized it before release it would have been leaps and bounds from where WoW is at (my opinion).
Again let me tell you, I'm not saying WoW is bad. I'm just saying it's easy - way too easy for my taste
Vanguard is also lacking in the character customization too. They may fool you with a seamingly complex one, but in reality; it is still very easy to find a clone. Most of the things in character customization target the face. The thing about the face is it is small relative to what people are looking at. All those details you drudge through in character customization will just go unnoticed to a number of factors like screen resolution, low-res textures, and helmets. In the end what you notice through the character customization is the hair and the body proportions; but mostly the hair. With only 5 hair choices per race, and a few re-used within a race; it is actually pretty easy to spot clones. In the first hour of gameplay, I spotted around 4 clones of my sprite. Not because they had different nose features, but because of the hair. I didn't even notice how thier nose was proportioned.
Ultimately character diversity really comes down to the variety of hair styles, and the equipment a person wears. With the very linear nature of the equipment gained in the game. If you are looking at character customization you might as well play a Korean Clone.

Well, I don't mind appologizing at all. I'm sorry that I misunderstood what you posted. Simple as that. Sorry.

The flying mounts are level 40+, and if I recall correctly, the first person in Beta 2 hit lvl 50 (max level) playing for.... 3 or 4 months, 12 hours a day /played.
My times could be off, but you guys really need to quit talking like you log in, make a new character and get a free flying mount.
don't even get me started on what instances did to PvP... /cry I really liked that game.
Ahh well I'll see how VG is before release day and then see how the first 3 days of pre-orders goes and then maybe jump in head first or possibly wait for some more fixes to go through. It's pretty fun now but release day always seems to be less stable than beta.
edit: sp

I never said WoW wasn't popular. I said it was easy and lacked depth in its gameplay. If you like a game that is easy that is your choice. I personally play games for the challenge, but that's just me.
Facts are facts
WoW's character customization is very very... very limited
Crafting in WoW is so easy it's almost a joke
Flying mounts are limited to certain areas
