    You really are crazy dude.

I put gas in my car because it won't start if i don't  and i'll go to jail if i don't pay my taxes.

As good as vanguard might be, soe can jump in any time they want and take all the things you like about the game away.

They'll do it without warnings and certainly won't ask you, they'll tell you that what you want.

If you planned on giving any money at all to anything sony related, you need therapy. Sure you might have to pay for something sony once in a while but there's almost always an alternative.

As far as I understand it, they are abandoning official forums, and are going to let fansites take all the heat. That's NOT common practice. That's duck and cover tactics.

k - VSoH has some similarities to pre-CU SWG - so what? that doesn't in any way that it is the new SWG vet home.  I don't need to prove you wrong, you haven't even proven yourself right yet.

Save your time.  I had huge hopes for vangaurd when I first heard about it years ago.  The game that was touted then is completed different than what they made. I dont know if SoE got to push a few buttons or what happened but its a game that tries to cater to everyone. With a game like that you get nothing great.  I hate to say it but I quit WoW to beta test vanguard and as much as I dispise WoW now, its a better MMO than vanguard can ever become now.
  • kordrialkordrial Member Posts: 160

to the OP your logic isn't very sound. Even though vanguard might be a good game, doesn't mean we have to come up with a better one in order not to play it. This sense of consumerism that's being formed isn't very good. the notion that "it's not great, but it's the best out there now, so we'll play it" is kind of lame... if it's not great... why not play it at all?

that being said, SWG was a great game right before launch too, also it definatly needed polishing. (as does VGSoH) i suppose this early i can see the same thing happening, shell shock or common sense? oh well... either way.. SoE will not get another penny of mine.

P.S. i'm not getting VGSoH just because of SoE, i also don't like the game :) just for the record. it's not bad, just not for me

  • ArcAngel3ArcAngel3 Member Posts: 2,931

Sorry fella.  If SOE is involved, I'm not touching it.  They get no more of my time or money.  They shafted hundreds of thousands of people knowingly, with the hope of scoring more cash.  That kind of company doesn't deserve my business.  Anyone that signs up with SOE knowing what they've done to people doesn't get my trust, my time or my money  either--bad decision.

You're comparing giving more money to SOE to paying taxes?  SOE isn't the government, thank goodness.  If they were, they be voted into oblivion for messing so many people over so badly.

As for the "live in the past comment" you made, players TODAY still stare at all the pets SOE still has locked in their datapads.  Players today are still waiting for SOE to give them back things like camps that they took away with the NGE.  The NGE fiasco isn't over yet.  It's still going on right now.  Even look at the new saber crystal that breaks another promise made to veteran players when the NGE came out.  I am living for today and tomorrow.  If I want to have a good day, and worry less about the future, I'll stay away from SOE and all their mind games.

Play another SOE product? No thanks.

    Can't agree more!!

I too am a SWG 'Refugee' Vanguard will NOT be my new home, as to make it such I will have to pay SOE for access. After getting the shaft by 'their' Development changes to EQ, and with what they did to SWG I can't stay far enough away!

Anyone who feels they will not attempt to infiltrate Vanguard?? well... Many feel it has already begun, but support em if you will, while i look at how many have jumped ship after SOE was announced to be in partnership. Sigil can't help but wonder how big the backlash will be.

As for me I look at your posts about what it will offer, and I then look to PotBS as my new home. The crafting system alone, will bring in many a crafter, and with the drunken bar brawls in the taverns maybe we'll see the Ent's as well to keep the peace.....

SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011

Our ship has come in. The Force is strong with this one!

Just a few of Vanguards features:

*No zones/instances. Just 1 freaking HUGE  open world in Vanguard!

*Player placed houses. The houses are not zoned. The only difference is you can only build on pre-determined plots in order to protect the environment (brilliant, SWG should have done this). The home decoration options are about 100 times that of SWG. You can even build a house on any one of hundreds of remote islands.

*In Vanguard there are literally over 60,000 items in the world already and every single item can be dropped in your house like in SWG.

*Vanguard features the "you can go anywhere" mentality. If you see it you can go there.

*Harvesting resources so reminds me of SWG. Hell, when you chop down a tree for wood the tree actually falls to the ground where you can then harvest it.

*SWG had space travel - Vanguard has sea travel! Huge open oceans to travel upon with your player-made boats of all sizes.

*You can tame wild beasts and mount them. In Vanguard you can fly dozens of mounts anywhere!

*The most amazing character-creation options ever. Period.

*You can custom design clothes, armor, weapons and even 'brand' it with your own logo.

*You can create and name your own songs (Bard).

    * Item decay! And the most impressive crafting system ever devised.

*The CHALLENGE you sorely miss... is back!

And on and on! The information is out there.... launch date: 01-30-2007

    EDIT (01-21-07):
I hear ya guys about SOE. I am not even going to defend them, and I never have. F*** 'em.

But I challenge  you to list another game that even comes close to what SWG had. Make a point-by-point  comparison (like I did above).

I find your "we refuges have found a new home" statement to be misleading and manipulative.  I'm a SWG refugee, and I have not found this "new home" you talk about.  Judging from many of the responses to your post, I'm not the only refugee who feels this way.  Did someone make you an official spokesperson for SWG refugees?  If not, then your are misleading people by claiming to speak for us.  You make it sound as if "we" (whoever "we" are) have all joined you on a new forum, and that's simply an untrue statement.

You seem to be promoting a SOE product using the same kind of communication strategy that SOE is known for, deceit and manipulation.  I don't appreciate it.  I left SOE's sick online world to get away from this kind of garbage.  Also, I can think of non-SOE games that I enjoy very much, but I don't want to play your game.  I'll pass.  I will say that other game companies win awards for good customer service for a reason though.  Maybe you and SOE should look into that.

NGE SWG is not fun. It's so dumbed down it's comical. Vanguard is complex and probably the most detailed MMO ever created. So insinuating that Vanguard is anything like the NGE is a false assumption, and it's a moot point to even discuss. It doesn't matter. Believe what you will. Read Brad's blog (link above) about "easy-mode" games.

Ahh but I wasn't saying Vanguard and SWG NGE are the same type of game, I was pointing out how bad your arguement that because it has some things like player houses and cities that PreCU SWG had that it is even close to being the same type of game as PreCU SWG when it also has as similarities with the NGE in class and levels and as you've pointed out that doesn't make it the same type of game as the NGE.

You'd have better luck selling this game to ex SWG players by saying it's a nice hardcore game with depth and complexity and stoping with the bad attempts to say it is somesort of spirtual succesor to PreCU SWG. Although an even better move that would get you less hostility would be to let people that might be intrested in vanguard come to the vanguard section of the fourms and do your selling of the game there instead of going to a different forum and telling people why they must like what your selling. It's not like people here haven't heard of it with all the hype and wouldn't have checked it out without your help.

    A long time ago...

Actually i would rather play SWG NGE than playing Vanguard , but hey i still do play SWG because there is simply no better game out there yet , and the thing with Vanguard, i would more likely to call it a ripoff with the placing items in houses, build boats and use them on the SEA etc. as the Nikoz78 typed.

So if we read some of the things they have listed you can do, lets see , 100% of their idea's are more of a ripoff,  nothing they invented them selves, thats for sure.

And i played Vanguard since the closed beta of it, and oh man was i dissapointed later on to find out how many of the idea's they had in their heads was more of a ripoff , a game is supposed to be unique, not a ripoff.

What a sad person OP is... He really need to get some age and wisdom on that attitude, it aint helping him. Oh well, people seem deadset to continue to do free advertising for a game released five years too late... No worries. In six months, I will have exactly the same opinion about vanguard as I have today. Crazy kids like this little one will not even dare admit how they supported it at release. Hanging int he forum of the next game to release, the next open beta, they will have forgotten how stupid they looked now, and never admit they change their opinion on a daily basis, depending on what "NEW AMAZING GAME" is released that month...

That he thinks of himself as "mature" and tell others to "grow up" just put another dimension to the irony.

Contrary to what the OP suggests here, it's really not crazy to disagree with him.  Avoiding a company like SOE make good sense in light of their history of customer service.  Also, his suggestion that people who disagree with him are hypocrites that will likely play Vanguard secretly has no evidence to support it.  This is just more manipulative communication, rather disrespectful in my view, and still not welcome.  If you want to try Vanguard, great, you don't need to feel guilty.  Try it and have fun.  If you don't want to try Vanguard, great, you also don't need to feel guilty, and a lot of people that are passing on another round with SOE have some great reasons if you ask me.

Kid? You were like 11 years old when I was born. And the real irony is while I have not directly insulted ANYONE here, you on the other hand are full of insults. Dude, your 41 and posting goofy rude stuff in a video game forum to a man you don't even know in real life? As experience has taught me, maturity is a state of mind not measurable in terms of years. I mean, you don't really know me right. Don't know where I come from, what I've lived through or the kind of person I am. So whatever, heh. But I'm not going to insult you back. /shrug

I've played RPG's for over 2 decades. PnP, old Sierra games from the 80's, UO, EverQuest, you name it. Vanguard is a fine game with a bright future, believe what you will. /peace
