"The Microsoft Xbox360 controller is compatible with the PC and Erling used it to great effect showing off the combat system."

    That's from the mmorpg.com interview....

that dosent prove its an advantage using it on a pc compared to a keyboard and mouse... it just confirm its possible to use a xbox controller on a pc in AoC

I'm trying to find the video, but it doesnt mean shit.  MS already proved you can use the 360 controller with almost any PC games with their Programable button program.  People use it for WOW whats the diffrence in AOC?  Bill gates just came out and said the XBOX is a PC and to expect PC Vista and Xbox games coming hand to hand .

    AGIAN.....

    AGIAN...

IM NOT DISPUTING ITS POSSIBLE......... IM DISPUTING THAT AND IF ITS AN ADVANTAGE......

and if its an advantage they have betrayed the main part of the pc gamers...

agian just so you would get confused a 3rd time... the keyword is Advantage NOT  posibility

It doesnt take a Retard to understand that The CONTROLLER will probly be better. Think about it.  Moving your mouse all over the place trying to do combos. OR use your Thumb to do combos and tapping the X and Y to attack. What do you think is gonna be better.
  • tfwarlordtfwarlord Member Posts: 216
lol..... think about it... with a mouse you can make faster and alot more prosice movements than with a controler, the buttons on a keybaord is just something extra....... normally without aimbots and movement limitations and etc.  it would be an advantage with a mouse....

i can do five commands on keyboard with each hand at once (also called 10 finger system) without looking, so with a mouse and a keyboard i can make more and more presice movements and faster too.

any master of a pc would out manuvere a master of a gamepadv  (without ANY aimbots or  speed limitations)

Well of course your going get precise movements with the Mouse. But When you have a Huge Double bladed Axe, swing it in a circle how Precise do you need to be?  Like I said before, if the Range combat is going be like FPS then yes the mouse would be better.

well where you hit the enermy counts, and BLOCK, in AoC if you wanna block you accualy have to make your shield or sword in blocked mode hit his sword (check the new gameplay video)... if it was a mindless beat im up, like Mortal kombat, or Dead or alive, you would have a point, but its not the way RPG combat normally work, and deffently not with this game..

IF  thats the case then great thats what my Left trigger on the controller will be, i can easly hit to bring up the shield just like in oblivion and hit the right trigger real quick to attack. just like in oblivion.  This can go on and on and on.
  • tfwarlordtfwarlord Member Posts: 216
yea but you have less controle where your shield and sword would point, than with a mouse. that is my point.. in aoc theres no locked combat...

Is the combat system really gonna be that precise? Like aim for head or legs, or chest? seems like that would bring up lag issues.

Only time is gonna tell.  But mark my words they are gonna promote this game with the Game pad i will put money on it.

  • tfwarlordtfwarlord Member Posts: 216
    sure..

I have no problems if they where equal (keyboard/mouse versus gamepad),

i have a problem if it where an advantage using a gamepad (aimbot etc.. locked and fixed encounters etc.)...

If  FUncom is just a little smart, they would make the game equal for both types.... it would maximeise their sales, which is any companies main goal

i dought they will have aim bots or lock ons for that. people are so good these days with controllers you dont need that.
  • b0rderline99b0rderline99 Member Posts: 1,441
alright first off, i really believe that controllers are the way to go with this game, with the way the combat is going to be set up controling your sword seems much easier with a controler than with a numpad.  A keyboard and mouse may have an advantage with shooting and spell aiming, but controlers will have the advantage with melee combat
  • tfwarlordtfwarlord Member Posts: 216
well time will tell.... i think because the combat is structured with no locked and fix encounters, with no aimbots and no otherwise movement enhancers the mouse keyboard wound have an big advantage over the controller... especially in melee.  maby its up to the enduvidual player.

One thing is sure, xbox360 players and pc users shouldent play on the same server, or we will have these fights all the time every 2nd.. (sure maby 10% of the pc players would use a gamepad, but they would proberly know their place since they are outnumbered)..

im accualy loosing interest in the game because of these discuations, its beginning to resemble the pvp vs pve discutions i took part in the vanguard off forums, around the beta 3 stage..... i think it would help the community if we sould stop threads like this, but i dont think its gonna happen...

oh well spellborn, Startrek Online and Stargate online is also comming, along with something ells i proberly arent allowed to mention, so i wont..

Every person I know with a 360 doesn't even know what a forum is; not to mention the mouse/ keyboard over controller for FPS is an age old debate.  You should be a little more open minded about cross platform MMO's.  FF11 already does it, don't know how many people are playing the console version of FF11, and Microsoft is a HUGE force in both the PC and console market.  Along with the entire push with the "games for windows" marketing and the success of the 360, I would have to say that cross platform gaming of any kind is good for everyone.

That's odd, could have swore I read that PC and console owners would get to play together.  Age of conan is a Games for Windows game as well as a 360 game and I think that by splitting the two would go against the Games for Windows guidelines.  I mean even if you ignore the fact that with the release of Vista we'll be seeing the advent of Live Anywhere whose only purpose is to bring console and PC gamers together.  Walk into EB or any store with a Games for Windows kiosk up and take a look at Halo2.  And you may want to recheck that info, I really coulda swore that the entire intent from the beginning was to bring PC and console gamers together in AoC.

That will only be for Vista exclusives. I have not heard of AoC being Vista exclusive at this time. So I would doubt it highly. DX10 inclusiono is one thing, but VIsta only would kill off a fair amount of the potential player base, even some with high end machines.

Kinda gotta have Vista for dx10, otherwise all of that optimization and building off of the vista system would be a complete waste of time. :)

Dead or Alive isn't a mindless beat m up game.. Mortal Combat is.

Probably you never figured out how to play DOA.

I think in the end it will be all about the design philosophy of the UI and controls, rather than what system is used to play the game. IMO, no one has discovered at this point how to design a game so that it is 100% equal in terms of whether a player is using a gamepad or a mouse and keyboard. However you design a game, one of those devices will prove superior at controlling the action in the game, and it will never be simply a "preference". Of course I'm talking about situations when there are no "aimbots" etc, which are an artificial way to try and balance the two controls. That's something that can never be 100% fair, because it's just a developers feeling about where the settings should be to make it equal.

Obviously you can play any "game for windows" game with an xbox gamepad. Would I care if somone was playing Vanguard with an xbox controller on their PC? Absolutely not, because after playing the game I know without a doubt they won't get even the tiniest advantage over someone with a mouse and keyboard in that game. It was designed for a mouse and keyboard, whether you play it with one or not. Although you CAN play it with an xbox controller, your best bet would be to use a mouse and keyboard. When the opposite is true (you CAN play it with a mouse and keyboard, but your best bet is to use a  controller) I'll skip those games, because it's silly to play a game where you are at a disadvantage, however slight, simply because of your choice of controls.

Once AoC is released there will be a definite concensus on which controls work best, xbox or mouse and keyboard. Lots of people will use both, compare, and one will emerge the winner. I'll be really surprised if most people say, "yea, there's no real difference using either one, it's about the same. " Whichever set of controls wins that contest, THAT's what the game was designed for, and you might as well use those controls if you're going to play the game. You can use an xbox controller on the PC, and I think you can hook up a mouse and keyboard to the Xbox. In that case it's not the machine people use to play the game on, but which sort of controls work best with the game.

I believe I heard that the X-Box controller was usable only on a PC with Vista. I could be wrong, I don't really care enough to find out. If this is a twitch game, built around the X-Box, I'm off it anyway. I haven't invested much so it's no big loss.

Its definatly not a twitch game, if you had read anything at all on Ageofconan.com you'd know that...

And its a PC game first and foremost being ported to Xbox... despite M$'s trying to pump 360 sales with it...

From the FAQ at ageofconan.com regarding turn based or real-time gameplay:

"...the system itself will be very much based around fast reaction gaming."

That would make it a twitcher, at least as far as combat it concerned. That's not the deal breaker anyway, that will depend on how the controls are implemented on a PC. It does, however, give credence to the argument that the game will be better played with a console controller rather than a mouse and keyboard. So does Funcom want to sell me the game or do they want to sell a copy of Vista for Microsoft?
