It is the best of 3rd generation MMOs, but 4th generation are around the corner. In about 6-8 months when the next generation are out expect to start reading about all the new common features that WoW, Vanguard and all the other 3rd gens are lacking.
By what stretch of the imagination is Vanguard the same generation as WoW?
But there ARE no 3rd gen MMORPG's even out yet Vyava .
1st Gen: UO, EverQuest, DAoC, SWG, etc.
2nd Gen: EverQuest II, WoW, DDO, etc.

I don't think anyone is afraid of that goofy gang of airhead trash. I'm covered in tattoos too (punk rock stuff - both arm sleeves, neck, back, chest, stomach, etc.) but that don't make me tough. You're probably right. Im sure they can come up with an even lamer , uninspired, smurfy MMO for people who desire instant gratification. Unlike a lot of WoW players (who are quite obviously very insecure), I don't feel the need to compare Vanguard to WoW. In part because with the exception of the fact they are both MMOs, there aren't many similarities. I hope that Vanguard NEVER appeals to those players as I certainly don't want to play with them. They have their game, I have mine. Only difference is, I don't ever feel inclined to post on the WoW forums, EVER!

You have literally no clue what you are talking about. Do some reading, I don't have time to tell you all that's different than EQ. But one is boats that you can craft and pilot yourself. EQ didn't have that, nor does any other MMO besides UO and you couldn't craft them.
I played the game since p2, it's EQ with a slapped on paint job and a shuffled around world. You still zone only they don't pop up the "Loading..." messages anymore. Doubt me? Run around and when your entire group lags you just hit a server transfer point. DaoC did it but better.
Having craftable boats somehow makes this game "have it all"? I could care less about boats. I want compelling adventures and this game had none of it. I'll spend so little time in "housing" or "boats" it's meaningless. I'll spend most of my time adventuring not sitting at the "Tavern" drinking.
I am glad you found a game you liked but if it does better than DD0 I'll be surprised... if it does better than EQ2 I'll be amazed.

At the pace they develop, it will be 2012 before it gets to closed beta.
The game is good. There are bugs but the game is awesome. The design and complexity of everything is very refreshing. In a group as a cleric I don't just sit back and heal. I COULD do that but it would be counter productive. 90% of all other MMOs your main healer better do NOTHING but heal and buff and CC. In VG a good healer has all that on his plate + doing some DPS in order to INCREASE party DPS + some aggro management + offtanking (if a cleric).
When I was in grouping situations as a cleric I could not press buttons fast enough. This game will be difficult to master. Sure it seems like just another EQ/DAoC/WoW/EQ2... etc. clone on the surface but the group combat is well beyond anything I've tried to date. This game is deep. It will take time and patience to understand WTF you are suppose to do to make a group work the best. No other game has the same options

I followed V:SoH from early developpemnt, hoping it would be the 'grail' of MMO's and of course I jumped on the boat when they offered place in the open beta. after a 26 hour download I at last launched the game... to be unable to play.
A week later and new graphic card in my computer i was finally able to play. Sadly it was the last day of beta so I coudln't try it much, so i guess I'll have to read the reviews after launch. I'm curious to see if the non-adventuring progression paths will stand the test of time as it's what could make buy the game and pay a monthly fee
In my many long years of playing MMORPG's I have never seen a development team more dedicated, more honest & upfront and more sincerely passionate about their creation as Vanguards producers. All can say is amazing. There is a reason people believe in these guys....

You obviously have not played the game with the factions system enabled. The last patch released today, last day of beta, has enabled what is part of the game's factions system (we have still not seen all of it ingame, more will come post launch).
Opposing cities, gards, outposts, etc... will now attack you depending on your race (i.ex If you are a dark elf the gnomes and other races will attack you). This also means that mobs now start to attack each other. The dynamics of the system make is so that your actions can change this. For example, if you begin killing people of a friendly faction everyone will start to attack you. You can also change the rules and get a much better (or worse) reputation with an opposing faction through diplomacy.
More is to come: guild/player controlled castles, cities, etc...
Racial Faction Modifiers were now applied to the following areas:
- Martok
- Tanvu
- Caial Brael
- Hathor Zhi
- Mekalia
- Qur'xa
- Khal
- Lomshir

From your post it looks like you prefer games like WOW that give you some instant gratification, but get boring fast. I prefer something that builds on top of a solid base and gets better the more I play. I agree with you that the first levels could have been made a little more attractive; but then, the first levels fly past so fast.. its not really an issue for me.
1. Faction based systems will definitely help and hopefully the pvp will be meaningful. But honestly I just don't see the need for the graphical customization of characters. I know it means alot to some people, but to me the graphics of the world means far more.
2. To some extent that's true, WOW did a great job of selling the game as being fun as soon as you logged in. When I played Vanguard, I didn't feel it. Sure I thought it would be enjoyable, but it didn't have the hook. If it was a game that I was eagerly awaiting then I probably would have been fine with it and not worried about not having an initial hook and assumed it would just get better. However, I was just browsing Vanguard to see what it was and what I thought about it while I waited for WAR or some other game. And to keep people like me as a subscriber it would have been nicer if the first 10 levels of the game were much more fun.
I understand the company has constraints and know they are releasing the game too early, but imo it does really show in the gameplay and performance.

If proper testing and bug-fixing were in place from the get-go, they wouldn't have had to repair that many bugs in the first place.
I'll admit they stepped it up, but I can't praise anyone for procrastinating, and then power-fixing at the last minute.
