Way to be clueless. I understand when trolls have an opinion, but it's more than a little sad when they have to lie. Where did they steal the caravan system from? Where did they steal craftable boats from? Where did they steal diplomacy from?

And craftable boats isn't the only difference from EQ, it's just the only difference I'm going to waste my time informing you about.

You were doing exactly what you had chastised the other author for. I was trying to point that out for ya.

Also, yeah, I can't understand how anyone could feel safe living in Tejas.  The marijuana laws there are barbaric.

And in addition, I can't think for the life of me why someone would post a link to the wikipedia of MS on this website.  Very strange indeed.

I see where people usually mention EQ2 but I played it and I lasted less there then in WoW and in WoW I was there less then 3 months.  The constant loading in EQ2 I hated, everywhere you went you had to load.  Plus, I'd go to buy items and there were none, items by other players were scarce in the sever I played.

Vanguard I see completely different.  I believe this game will do well, should surpass that other over-hyped game that's across the way in time.

This is not a 3rd generation MMO.  It's barely 1.5 generation.

Aside from Diplomacy there is nothing new here...no new take on the MMO genre.  It's still click a target adn spam hot keys...earn xp...get drops...rinse and repeat.

I enjoy the game...but people are making it out to be the end all be all of MMOs...

It's only EQ2 with a card game and flying mounts...it's not 3rd generation.

The dev team has been great, and honest...and that is a breath of fresh air.

Sigil and SOE know their numbers a lot better than we do and judging from the number of servers they are launching with a good estimate is they have presold between 250K to 300K boxes . Churn will lower that number  30% to 50 % by the end of the first month an I think by the third it will settle in at about 125K - 150K active players ( losing a few more and then gaining replacements as the game smoothes out) as long as they keep adding and polishing content.

Its a lot more like EQ1 than EQ2 imo.  What is a generation really?  I mean, there comes a point where what new ideas can you really add?  The fantasy MMO has pretty much been defined, and most people know what works, and what doesn't.  The days of a game blowing our socks off I think is pretty much over.  Graphics will get better, combat will get smoother, but you can only change it so much.  With their last press release, Blizzard basically said they are sitting on WoW for the next 10 years, and frankly I don't blame them.  For the most part your right, they are just improving on old ideas.  Show me a game that is coming out this year that isn't doing that.

The combat system is actually 10 times deeper than anything I've played. Spamming hotkeys is efficient solo but in a group it's WAY more complex than that. There's so much that they can do with this system. If you just spam hotkeys in a group and think you're doing the best damage you can you have no idea what you're missing.

The diplomacy is very cool and the harvesting and crafting are much more of a real game than other MMOs. There is enough here to last people months without killing mobs. There is even GROUP harvesting and crafting.

Healing classes that can actually have fun in dungeons (and groups in general) is also a wild new concept.

Sure it builds on what has come before but revolutionary is rarely popular. EVE is amazing and was VERY small on release.

If you want to play a revolutionary game goto www.freeallegiance.org. The game is 7 years old and still the multiplayer RTS/space combat gameplay (one person commands miners/builders everyone else flies) is very, very good. It has a huge learning curve though because it is sooo different than what people know.  That game is revolutionary for its combat let alone the RTS aspects. It got canned (on MS gaming zone) by MS though because it didn't do very well. AMAZING game but no sales/subs.

Revolutionary games are almost never popular. You don't spend 50+ million on something revolutionary.

well Sharkey you know darn well that I have played it and I agree with that guy. This is nothing more than EQ1 game play with the card game and the gryphons wrapped in EQII graphics, and it is not even polished enough for pay to play at that. Another month or two of development time and it would be a nice mediocre game, as is it's a nice less than mediocre game.

It will go down in MMO history all right . It will be beside SWG as evidence that a game developers second try is less than his first. Brad and Raph should have coffee together and try and figure out where they went wrong.

Well, I don't agree and I'm afraid it won't be failing any time soon. I hope you'll have the grace to come here and admit you were wrong when the game is still going strong in 2 years. You might not like it, you may even want to see it fail, but you can rest assured that it won't.

I don't think I used the word fail anywhere in that or any other post about the game Sharkey. The Matrix and SWG are still going  even as bad as they are and Vanguard beats both of those games. Even Planetside still has a server up I think, don't quote me on that though. I just don't for see the game being anything more than a niche game and there is no shame at all in that. The game mechanics of corpse runs, spawn camping and pretty much forced group play is just not going to appeal to a wide audience anymore is all that I am saying.

I learned long ago that my personal likes and dislikes have little to do with what sells and succeeds however. Sometimes I am right , other times I am not.

What I am sure of is there has never been a more wonderfully complex, detailed and immersive virtual world than that of Telon.

And with a mightly lightning bolt the Vanguard will appear before the faithful, casting away the shadows of the Dark Age and issue in a glorious new era of light. Amen! Thanks to the prophet Brad we shall bare witness to the Vanguard's coming. Hallelujah brother!

The Force is strong with this one.
You know, I can understand this from the perspective of simple mathamatics I suppose. A game directly inspired by the first generation, ripping off the innovation of a certain second generation game... *cough* Ahem. If you add those together, I guess you get "3" generations.

The development team are a bunch of arrogant jackasses. There is no other way to describe them... And yeah, this game is only revolutionary in the light of turning around and going back the way the genre came.

Immersive? Is this a joke? A clever ruse? *raises eyebrow*

Hopefully this next generation competition with its innovatins while renew the spark of imagination in MMO developers.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that.  EQ2 and Vanguard both promised stuff at release that didn't make it in. Both probably would've been 10 times more revolutionary if they hadn't been pushed out the door. Each promised alot but released alot less. I like Vanguard and will be playing it soon but it isn't anything ground breaking other than it's size and the addition of diplomacy. No one will every break the old EQI mold till they either cough up a WOW budget to the right team or they find a way to keep the publishers or investors from kicking an unfinished rushed game on the masses. Neither will probably happen for a while so expect some of the cool awesome promises that Warhammer and Conan are making to be watered down or deleted before release as well. No slight to them but  truthfully with the exception of Blizzard (who also promised alot more than they gave) no MMORPG company has the money to do anything "new" that you might call 4th generation. In 2007-2009 expect to see EQI and WOW clones repackaged with nice Direct X 10 graphics but nothing new on the gameplay side.
