yea next thing you know people that hate the game will be congregating on the forums of that game, now that would be annoying wouldn't it. and telling.
Ummm, most mmo's require a sub to post on their forums. I dont see how your comment applies.
And to the OP, I'm with you all the way, not having official forums is not a good thing. Correct, ATM ALL SOE games require a paying account.

The more I read these Vanbois.. the more I really hate a game.. that I have never played... Honestly you guys are worse then WoW fanbois... and that is a tough act to follow... I was looking for a new MMO to play .. and thought maybe this would be it.. but after seeing the horrid fanbase.. I have decieded to pass and keep looking... really you guys are not doing this game you claim to love .. any service at all... The OP has a legitimate concern... why doesn't Vanguard have an official forum??
I completely agree.
I had been in beta since early october (beta 2 I think it was) and hava watched VSoH mature through the months. Because the Devs put in so much time and effort to get the game ready for release (after a very very very rough public beta), I felt obligated to pre-order the game int he very least. They seemed to be making all the right moves, fixing all of the major (relative term here) bugs and reworking their infustructure, but then they got rid of the Main forums.
Not having a centralized forum
discourages new players who can't find the info they are looking for (no info base)
fragments the community, often causing cliques, factions, and verbal warfare between minorities,
creates misinformation (which as we saw during beta with bogus bug reports and reviews),
there is no central forum for concerns about the direction of Vanguard to congrigate and achieve a head of steam (not al critics are flames, many hold weight or anoher way to say it is "where there is smoke, there is ussually fire")
and most importantly, while mjaor post and issues can be RSS fed to coummunity sites, minor issues dealing with quests / class imbalance / bugs / and general misinformation will go unanswered with no "official" way to moderate questions and concerns and answers.
Killjoy626 is correct in his assesment of the community as it seems the common oppinion of those playing Vanguard right now is Sigil can do no wrong and that everything they do has a deep meaning behind it. Disillusioned I say they are.
A general rule in life is to always ask questions, about your life, your job, your world and even the game your paying $200 a year to play in your free time (which not many of us have, time that is), and when I see gamers at each others throats only because someone asked a legit question, I shake my head.
Just remember Shadowbane, in the state it's in, on it's last legs, a franchise sold 3 times over and is now free, has an official forum and Vanguard does not. When someone can give me a straight reason as to why, or how it hels build a community, then I will yield my case.

I do agree with the OP that the lack of official community forums is nothing short of disgusting and shows a lack of support. I've been struggling since Friday to find answers and help for a technical issue even including Sigil/SOE's tech support forum, knowledge base and email. I still haven't found what I need, and I'm plain tired of surfing multiple communities in search of answers.
I don't like the fragmented community at all. Will they change it for lil ole me? Of course not, but I also agree if enough of us complain, they will. If they don't want to mod their own community they can always outsource it to companies that handle that sort of thing.
I went to silky venom.... Other than it not being able to load correctly (They have since switched hosting)... There was a thread on the subject.
I look at it, it didn’t have a resolution.
Went to Ten-ton-hammer. There’s a thread.... No resolution, no dev post.
Went to 4 other sites.... Each had a thread on this issue. No resolution, no dev post... Save for the most under populated site.
It had a thread, and a dev post.
Isn’t this great? I wasted an hour looking for a development post about a largely common issue, only to find ONE (1) dev post on the subject.... on the least visited site of the 20 they have listed.
What was that resolution you ask? "Keep an eye on the affiliate sites for the resolution to this problem".
"Sweet, witch one?"
Opinion:
I just want to say, if they are not going to provide the same services as other mmo's, then they need to lower my subscription by 2$. Shirking off the responsibility of maintaining of community forums is sad. “Because we don’t want to deal with it” is a lame excuse. Having to search 20 fan sites of debatable quality is frustrating, not to mention they all have speculative information, and some times contradict. Trying to pass this off as an “Easer more reliable solution” is just completely unsupportive of your customer base, your wasting our time, because it is not.
Same would happens on official board until the Dev comes up with a patch and annonce the fix.

Wow, I thought they were only bringing down the forums temporarily...I just figured that since every other stinking game has forums, that VG would, too.
I have found the in game community to be both friendly and helpful. No matter how Noob the question someone is always forthcomming with the answer. Nice thing as well is there seems to be a lack of eletism there as well. I would have to say...Ask in game or whatch the chat as someone else is already asking.
Actually, they did the exact opposite. They killed the official forums they DID have two weeks ago, and they have no plans for a forum at all.
If you want any information, you have to go around to all of the different fansites and hope that one of the devs deigns to post in a thread.

So wait a minute, you didn't have a technical problem, so the official support forums weren't needed, but you had a question about a spoiler for in game content and you complain that you can't go to an official site and have your hand held?
If you think it's a bug, /bug it, and maybe fire a /petition off to a GM and continue playing. There's more than one thing to do in the game. Just because your not on the rail to being the first person to level 50 doesn't make the game any less of a GAME.

Dude, you HAVE to have official forums, it's pretty much a requirement in the 21st century for any game with MP content. With an MMO, it allows you to have Class Forums to gain more insight/tips into your class (e.g., tactics, etc.), and PvP Forums, and so on and so forth. Plus, it's the easiest method for people to communicate with other gamers when they're not in-game (lunch break or whatever).
I'm trying to think of a successful, primarily MP game without a central forum, and none comes to mind...at least none that I would play. It's also a matter of polished professionalism if you will...just as I would judge someone on their physical appearance and what they're wearing, part of my first impressions of a game is the little things like forums.
So wait a minute, you didn't have a technical problem, so the official support forums weren't needed, but you had a question about a spoiler for in game content and you complain that you can't go to an official site and have your hand held?
Did you even pay attention to the issue he had?
No, come to find out that the line of diplomacy parlays are simply bugged, and impassable, And require a patch due to imbalances.
He wasn't asking for a quest spoiler. He was wondering why in the heck his Diplomacy wasn't working and was trying to find a resolution for it. Turns out it was mathematically impossible for anyone to win that parlay at all, which made it both a bugged quest and a gameplay issue. And it took him over an hour to find out an answer to something that, on an offical board, probably would have been a known issue in a Diplomacy section.
This is what official forums are for, and why Vanguard will suffer for their lack of them. Tech forums are just that-- if you've got a technical or hardware glitch, that's where you go. But there are more than just tech issues in MMO's, which is why forums are important. It's not a matter of hand holding, or whatever the elitist Vanboi talking point is these days. It's called professionalism and customer service.
If Sigil expects people to pay $15 a month to play their game, then they have to offer something in return. Namely, an official place for their paying customers to find out general information like this, and to voice their concerns to the developers directly. Going around to different fan forums is stupid and just wastes a player's time. After a while, people will start to feel like Sigil doesn't care about their issues, so they'll leave.
Planned or not, getting rid of their forums was a seriously dumb move. And it makes them look lazy, IMO. If they can't even be bothered to have an official message board, then why should anyone expect them to provide anything more involved? It's such a simple thing, and to ignore it is just ridiculous.
So whats the problem here? He found his answer. He just chose the wrong path to take to get it. Most of the time if you do a shout in chat, people will tell you if it's bugged right now. If you don't shout out in chat, that is a perfectly good reason to go to the official support forums and post a question regarding a broken part of the game. He went about it all wrong. He expected to pick up a game before it was released and have every bit of information available to him. He posted it on the 29th. A day before release and expected to be able to look up the answer before posting a question?
Seriously. The game is new. the information is there if you look for it. If you don't like it, don't play. It's that simple.

That's kind of my point, too.
In addition, when I was initially trying to enlist my buddies to play VG, I pointed them at the official site. After a couple hours, they emailed me back saying "WTF are you for real? I could build a site like this at work ina few hours." At first I was in denial, but then I saw where they were coming from.

It's easy to say "if you don't like it, don't play it." In fact I think that's what a lot of us are doing. But this game is about business after all, and some of us are picky enough to judge it on first impressions. And from what I understand, it has the makings of a good game. So it'd be a shame if it failed because of online aesthetics or whatever other reason people have, that are very easily remedied.

I really wish people would get over this stupid, pseudo-hardcore "OMG! You just want a handout!" mentality that they seem to spew forward anytime someone has an issue with something in Vanguard. Seriously...you're not doing the game any favors by acting like anyone who has a problem, or who wants an answer from a dev is some sort of gibbering retard who wants to be given a max level, uber gear toon in a week. People have questions and issues. It's normal. And official forums are usually where they go to ask.
It may be a new game, but that doesn't excuse Sigil from providing basic customer service to the people paying to play their game.

You can google the information you need and you do not have to visit 20 different forums looking for an answer. Also, going through the list of affiliate sites you would naturally want to start with the one that covers diplomacy. vgtact.com.

Sure. you can Google it, but why should you? You're paying to play. Don't you think you deserve a bit more than just a bunch of fansites to surf around to in the hopes that a dev might feel inclined to post there?
Sigil is not only charging full retail for the game box, but they're ALSO charging $15 a month to play the game, just like most other MMO's. I don't know about anyone else, but if I'm paying to play a game, I absolutely expect some level of customer service. I expect an official message board with sections for everything from developer feedback and technical issues, to player suggestions and ideas, class and profession forums, and even server forums, where the players from each server get together and socialize.
That should be what we as MMO players expect from a company that we're paying in order to play their game. They should offer something to the people who are putting money in their pockets.
Making you Google what is actually a common game issue, or surf around to a bunch of fansites? Pfft. That's just laziness on their part. They owe their customers more than that.

As far as I know the developers aren't obligated to provide these kinds of things. If you expect them thats fine for you, but they aren't necessary to keep the game running. And in the long run the developers are going to do what they think is good for the game no matter what player suggestions and different things we give them.
SWG. . .did they roll back CU due to the overwhelming player response?
I think service on technical issues including the possibility of in game bugs is required and they already have such forums. . .general questions about the game, good strategies, rant threads, etc. . .do not need to be included in any one forum.
Even with COH/COV I went to gameamp before even bothering with the official forums at all, and even in the official forums you find that things are more difficult to find because of all of the quadruplicate(lol) posts about the same topics amongst all of the piss poor ideas, etc.
The only developer feedback I expect to see is in the patch notes and in the performance of the game. Everything else would just be gravy.

The idea of not having official forums is simply a way of not dealing with the massive criticism that they must have known would have been unleashed when they released an unfinished product. It smacks of running for cover. Not having official forums is so blatantly dysfunctional (they are, after all, the main means of communication and feedback between the devs and the player community), that the defenses for doing that can't really be taken seriously. It's clearly a sign of problems, and just one of many with this title.

Look at Enhancement Diversification, Issue 3, Issue 5, Issue 6. . .
SWG. . .did they roll back CU due to the overwhelming player response?
I think service on technical issues including the possibility of in game bugs is required and they already have such forums. . .general questions about the game, good strategies, rant threads, etc. . .do not need to be included in any one forum.
Even with COH/COV I went to gameamp before even bothering with the official forums at all, and even in the official forums you find that things are more difficult to find because of all of the quadruplicate(lol) posts about the same topics amongst all of the piss poor ideas, etc.
The only developer feedback I expect to see is in the patch notes and in the performance of the game. Everything else would just be gravy.

Everyone has there own opinion, but some people are just being contradictory, for the sake of being contradictory.
