luckily for most mmo's there is always a small segment of the community that will play andlove it no matter how bad the bugs are or lame the gameplay is.
would i reccomend vanguard? Not this year. Vanguard is built for the future though so it may become good at some point for the rest of us. Maybe.
I couldn't feel more ripped off than I do now. Not only did I pay up for a subscription to get into beta early but I also ended up buying this half-assed game. Hype and my stupidity has beaten me this time.
I am not going to turn this into a review but simply say that if Sigil took more time finishing this product and at least created some official forums they would turned the so many disapointed who are basicly going to leave within a months time and those who have left already into long term suscribers.
I don't care what financial strain this company was in. Forcing a release on such a half-assed product shows poor time/money management by sigil.
I only hope other developers and sigil themselves learn from their tragic mistake. They will make a quick buck but in the long run the suscriber base will die to better upcomming releases. Such a shame since I was looking forward to this game.
Also I feel sorry for anyone thinking that the patches sigil is releasing are significant improvements to the game. So far the only difference has been some spells in different order. Crap spell effects updated to poor spell effects and a 2% performance increase. Far from making any significant progress.
Maybe 3-4 years ago a game like this would have been acceptable, but take away the enviromental graphics and you got yourself a huge disapointment.
... it feels hot here lol.. flame away suckers, but stop lying to yourself and take a good look and comparison to whats infront of you.
thats it..
R.I.P Vanguard.
I'm glad you feel ripped off... Well if I compare this with other Mmorpgs I'm pretty happy with what I bought.
-flying mounts, housing, boats, crafting, diplomacy and I like the world. I really don't know how you beat that, but of course that's just my opinion...
EQ2 has graphics and Wow has... battlegrounds? easy lvling I don't know, hehe
From what this game was early beta to now is just amazing. But it does not surprise me there are people bashing it. Once you weed out your crashing bugs the game is really fun. If not for the people that you may meet in game. But then the stunning graphics that blow you away. Nothing about this game is a rip off. WoW kiddies that come over here thinking that they are going to get to 70 in a week are wrong. This game has so much depth to it that other MMO’s have not touched in one full system before.
SO far the game has me and many of my friends hooked and i am sure it will for many many months to come..
Sigil was running out of money, so they had to release. I can understand that. What I can't accept is the way they've completely cut off any feedback from their customers.
WHAT are you talking about. This is COMPLETELY untrue... just wow...
Have you tried to talk with them? I chat wit them all the time on the Affiliate Sites, as well as even here. Heck, you can even Petition & Bug things in-game and have a DEV (not a GM, although they're great) contact you to ask you for more info.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
Markn12's post makes my point. Here is a person who really loved the game but did not buy and is waiting since performance issues got in the way of enjoying the true experience Sigil tried to offer. WoW changed everything including the budget needed to create a great mmorpg. If you do not have the funds to develope fully stay out of the market. It may suck that smaller companies have a hard time in today market place but WoW changed that forever. Even with a smaller budget you would think Sigil with 4 to 5 years development could have released a polished game. Companies can no longer expect players to foot the bill for months of beta testing those days are gone.

Where are the VG forums? I mean, even small games have official ones, what is sigil afraid of?
I don't believe for a second that the OP actually played the game and this is bait to get a bad title on the board. In that whole post there is not one mention of anything in the game and he has not been back since. It's sad really.

Exactly! The fact that they don't provide official forums shows that they don't want feedback from their customers. I'd be willing to bet that any future games that are connected to SOE won't have forums.

Actually that isn't true. WoW is the first MMO I have played that has had such wide spread use of their official forums. Asheron's Call and Dark Age of Camelot are two off the top of my head I can think of that did not make use of official forums.
I only played EQ for about a month so I don't know if they have official forums, CoH and CoV both for about the same time, I don't recall Lineage 1 or 2 having official forums or guild wars for that matter. I don't remember Anarchy Online having official forums, but I might be wrong, (talk about buggy release they actually accepted refunds on that game). So about the only major game I can remember like I said with big forum use is World of Warcraft. I personally would rather not have official forums , since they are then policed by the community manager for that particular game and can be censored as that company sees fit.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Oh, they want feedback. Just not at their official site where any potential customer might stumble across it.
Shutting down their forums and having fansites pick up the slack pretty much absolves them of any responsibility or accountability to the people who are paying to play their game.

Let's not forget that at one time the EQ forums were shut down for a while.
Guess who shut them down?
Brad - the same folk hero that produced VG.
The EQ board went back up when new management took over.
Well to be honest. That really doesn't matter who does and doesn't have an official forum. The fact still remains that any game that does not is making a massive mistake in respect to its public relations. Games like this(mmo's) that require as much consumer to developer and vise versa feedback must have a place for the 2 to continuously relay information back and forth. The games that you mention didn't or don't have forums are also subject to the same criticism and negative relations that VG is working towards having so that is really not any type of defence towards not having a forum.
I think this game has great potential, but as learned in the past potential isn't everything. Lets face it, everyone can agree they jumped the gun on the release. That is always a mistake in the eyes of the consumer. Now, in the past, and in the future it will still be a mistake. But for whatever reasons it has happened. So this is where the uphill battle starts. The Devs must continue to out do what the player base expects, if they do then the game will likely succeed in the long run. If they do not then there is a good chance it will fail as others have in the past and Sigil will start trying drastic measures that will likely only kill it further.
At this point in time it is to early to really tell where this game will go.
I have indeed played the game. Every day since beta. I was also extremely hopeful and wasn't going to bash. But after creating dozens of characters and playing them to around level 10, trying out different continents and even grouping up I quickly realized that this had no hold on me and I actualy started forcing myself to log on to play and thats when I realized this was not fun. There aren't any game breaking bugs that made me quit, just a lack of completion and immersion. Looking at landscaping got boring really quick. I also wouldn't waste my time posting unless I played this game and felt I needed to voice my opinion on this one.
P.S. I have never played WOW. But have played majority of other MMO's from Ultima Online , to AO to EQ2... and the list could go on. Basicly thought I feel Iam one of the few that hasnt been affected by WoW and this is truly been a WoW-free opinion.

The Devs pretty much cut off the bullschtick. . .they can get feedback from here or anywhere else on the internet just like from any regular site. The vocal minority will always find somewhere to be vocal. . .and you do not need official forums to do that.
In response to what MX13 said, that is part of the damn problem. . .the devs are playing GM instead of being developers. Refine the damn game and Polish it, then you can show your face to your clientele. . .the GM's can do the job of gathering information, let them do their job. . .poor direction seems to be one of the root causes of why the game has not been properly refined for release. . .
I'm sorry... But I just don't friggin get it.. What is this hugh horrible game stopping shit I am missing? Seriously... I log in each day after work for a few hours... I grab a beer.. I sit down and run around explore, Kill some things...knock off the odd quest here and there. Do a little banking. Check the exchange for any improved items I might want. Maybe hunt some more or even head somewhere I havent been yet. Socialize a little..I dont freakking get it... What are you people seeing that my computer is uncapable of reproducing. Please give specifics so I can go there and try to have a bad time. Tell me where these game breaking things are. Or all these things missing? Maybe because i'm only level 15 on my main or the alts ( 12, 10 and 7).. Is that it? Are the people complainging much higher lvl then I and I'm in for a rude awaking? I mean hell... I havent tried crafting once or diplomancy. In Beta I did get a while to play as a 30 lvl on a few kinds of chars. My only problem then was... Holy mother of shyt... There is so much to learn. Guys (or Gals)something is way wrong with my computer.. Cause I keep thinking " damn! how am I going to do all these things I want to do."
Originally posted by Staticblue I agree with the original post. Though I didn't pick up my preorder. I waited till they required the key. Which was three days after launch, basically saying, "screw you" to all the online orders that didn't pay for two day shipping. That is one of the issues I am having with this game. That was just wrong but, SOE wants that dolla dolla bill. Why this is a crappy issue for me is because MxO gave us a month to enter our keys so our euro buddies could paly with us till they got theirs. The real issues I had are.... Couldn't recieve tells from people outside my guild over 50% of the time. Getting kicked from groups while crossing chunks. Crossing a chunk just to have the server teleport me 1 km away to a lvl 32 mob zone. Having to relog to accept an invite. Not showing up in the LFG window. (all the issues above would not let me advance in adventuring past what I soloed to which was 14 due to the fact that i could rarily communicate with people and, even if I did find a group getting in and staying in was impossible) Kojans loot drop is much lower than the other two continients. Evertime I got a new piece of gear, say a robe. It was the same robe just a different color. This was for all my equipment besides the staff ( I was a druid, after 14 levels I expect some variety). Enemy NPC camping corpes. Diplomacy quest bugged. I was to the point that i had two quest. One was to difficult to do yet and the quest that would advance me so I may have the skill to start the other quest. Well the quest I needed to advance was the horse quest. I failed due to the timer and no directions in the quest. Now I cannot retry the quest so I can continue. (So that is two spheres I can't advance in) 0 solo-ability. Yea the game is group-centric but damn, if you can't find a group to do your quest, your screwed. I spent 3 days at the same level grinding of wandering NPC trying to find a group. Also if you don't get to do your quest you don't get good gear. Being a druid I had cloudwalk. It's pretty lame when melee ranged NPC can hit me with their weapon when I am 30 meters away from them in the air. Enemies teleporting directy infront of me after my first attack ala SWG. The only difference is in SWG they didn't attack, it was visual. In vanguard they actually glitch infront of you. (yes monks have the ability to telport to a foe and attack. They wheren't monks) Not being able to loot corpse underwater. Crafting area is way to congested in Tanvu, Kojan. Just a 5FPS lagfest and I run the game on high settings and it's fine everywhere else. They should have made multiple building containing the crafting tables like the lesser giant starter city.
If you're looking for interesting quests to propel you through the game, you may be out of luck. Only a few quests have storylines -- in fact, a backstory for the world itself is hard to find. The NPCs mostly give out brain-dead "kill 10 rats" quests, and those are poorly written and include uninspiring snippets of voice acting.
And the thin content is part of a larger problem: Vanguard feels like it wasn't quite ready to launch. While free of crash bugs, problems in interface, gameplay, and content abound.
