Well..been reading a bit about Vanguard and the technical issues aside, which we all know plague all MMOGs upon release it seems ((CoH seeming to have been an exception)) and should expect-thus, I refuse to buy a game upon release anymore and give it a good 3-6 months before even considering. However I have to say, no disrespect intended to those who are so pleased with this game, but honestly, I see what amounts to little more than another version of EQ2. The classes are so very similiar that I couldn't help but chuckle at their listing. And while it seems to offer other venues such as diplomacy and crafting, to me it seems like the element of diplomacy is moot, unless players can cause by such actions city states, nations, ect to attack each other, set up trade routes, ect, it really is nothing more than a shell game IMO.
Again, I don't mean that in a disrespectful sense to those who seem entranced by this, but from what I've seen, and from having looked over the shoulder of a fellow MMOG addict, I'm not impressed. The game is plagued with logistics that seem downright player unfriendly, but that said, I hope those of you who like it will have your concerns and wishes addressed by the Devs in a thoughtful and timely manner and that your investment in time is duly rewarded.
Even peace may be purchased at too high a price, and the only time you are completely safe is when you lie in the grave.
I have been at the launch of pretty much every major MMORPG and every expantion for most of them. And the colume with the crappy launches heavly out wights the one with the smooth launchs.
First i dont much care for this game. I dont blame anyone but myself. Cant get into. its the same with WoW. no matter how hard i tried i couldent get into it. SoH dose have a much better player base then wow so i cant really blame that on them like i do wow.
I can recall pretty mcuh every launch i have ever participated in. with maybe the exception of CoH and CoV being rolled back. actualy if i think. maybe CoH had one in the first few weeks but it was a roll back of i think a few hours. I honestly dont recall.
I just dont know why people cant shut up and let people who do like the game play and the people who do play stop letting the people who hate the game get to them. its just a big ol viscus circle. I dont like WoW so i dont play it. I dont like this game so i wont play it. I stoped enjoying D&D online so I stoped playing. I always voice why i stop playing if they ask. (i know DDO and CoH both have exit survays) and if a company dosent want to know why i stoped playing then thats there own tuff luck.

This game has its issues, but it is far better than WoW or EQII. Despite all the complaints about lag, this game runs surprisingly well on my machine. The game looks beautiful, the environments amazing. Its a grindfest like any other MMORPG, but this is something I expect from any of these games. I didn't really keep up with the development of this game so I didn't know what to expect. I only bought it because both WoW and EQII could not hold my interest anymore. So far, I do believe this is where I'm going to call home for awhile. I think people need to give this game a chance. It is buggy, but not so much where it is totally inhibiting game-play....at least in my case.
The only issues I have with this game is its development since release. I liked Vanguard in beta, and I loved vanguard right after release (even with all the bugs). But after the last several patches, which effectively nerfed crafting and diplomacy, Im stuck doing hunting and nother else. Since this group is heavily group oriented, im also stuck LFGing and not finding groups. So basicaly, im stuck doing nothing. Solo some easy con mobs. Thats it.
Crafting has been slightly fixed, but still is way too unbalanced. I still get up to 6 complications, I upgraded my crafting tools/ cloth with at least +2 to stat with no visible effect. I CAN make grade A items, rareily, but I can. Howeve,r due to the amount of complications, im facing a tough decision, either always make grade C items, OR take a chance on grade B/A but have a 50/50 chacne of failing completely. This is NOT what I consider a FUN crafting. Especialy if you get 3 complications in a row during 3rd (last) step.
And no, im didnt even bother bugging it. This is not beta, this is paid release. These things should of been tested BEFORE releasing them into public. It shouldnt be this way" "lets release this patch and let players tell us if its bad or not". The last few patches simply killed the fun in Vanguard for me.
Im putting Sigil and Brad into my "do not trust" list.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
so any games soe decides to pickup in the future from other companies will be there fault too? guys seriously...SOE is not the devil..they ruined swg, but they have other self ip titles such as eq and eq2 that are very good games.

Pretty much. Just cuz i'm a dick, i'm going to reiterate for the 96th time in this thread:
SIGIL DEVELOPED THIS GAME. NOT SOE. IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE GAME, IT IS SIGIL'S FAULT.
I know you guys love to hate SOE, but they had zero to do with anything going on right now.
so any games soe decides to pickup in the future from other companies will be there fault too? guys seriously...SOE is not the devil..they ruined swg, but they have other self ip titles such as eq and eq2 that are very good games.
Hmm...
Will start with "they ruined swg,but they have other..."...okay, for those of you who were not part of the Beta to SWG and release, SOE didn't just ruin SWG they slaughtered any chance of it ever being anything remotely close to being a MMO. Merridian 59, a game released around 1992 is STILL going strong, which says something about their user base, but NOT about the game. This is the end result of SOE with any game they have ever involved themselves in. (God help Gods and Heroes)
As for dear old Brad...*cough*, and the crew from Everquest and Ultima, this is A-Typical of a Brad *pocket the money and run*. Brad seems to have this weird hatred for either himself or the people who followed him into hell but really, this comes as no surprise now and sadly, you will see all the Vanguard peeps in a year sitting here with a foul taste in their mouth like so many SWG players.
Everquest was indeed magical, and for so many of us, it sucked our soul and the common joke "Welcome to Everquest, say goodbye to the dog" came to be. Brad and company gave many promises, none kept, they swore up and down this was for fun, and in the end, Sony took complete control FOR THE MONEY (found the niche for addiction and massive raids and elite players using six computers to powerlevel) and walla...Brad ran away...
This is a money making business and don't let anyone fool you into believing this is a kind, gentle, gamer friendly love between company and players. Vanguard will cater to the massive raid, uber guilds (which brings headlines, which sells copies) and will promise you, the player, the paying customer, that all is well and you will have fun. At some point, someone out there will finally see an online game for what it is...a GAME. Something to enjoy. Yes, making money is nice, but how much money does one person need ? Fun is lost in the greed of man and enjoyment is lost in the hopes of addicting the next generation on the drug of choice...online games. Just look at this website , remember 1992 ?...Ultima, Meridian, Diablo (thank god for Blizzard)...they were fun....they are fun....someone forgot to tell Brad that...
Good luck everyone, but this smells of SWG all over again...down to the letter of forums being removed, lies and deciet....just wait when they tell you about the "NEW pets you will get" in the next expansion, only to find out in the next expansion, which will only cost you 29.99 your entire character is removed...no pets...no character...re-roll please....
Fool me once, shame on you....Fool me twice shame on me....Fool me over and over again....when will I learn ?
Ya...Ill buy the game...ya, Ill be here bitching again about it in a year...
Delvin..Danbur...Alzar...Lanweian...Kane....proud characters long since dead from 1986 on
What a funny thread. The arguments that some people are making in order to have a wortheless rant at SOE crack me up. The poor souls a) don't understand the difference between developer (Sigil) and publisher (SOE) and b) don't realise that without SOE there wouldn't be a Vanguard game at all. Please continue the entertainment.
It's been a while since i played EQ/EQ2, i must say i always enjoyed it until.... i dunno i just got bored (there wasn't anyone around to play with) I've never bothered with SWG (though i like the movies) . I'll mostlikely never try V:SOH.
Except for that this topic is quite entertaining, please continue
<<I just dont know why people cant shut up and let people who do like the game play and the people who do play stop letting the people who hate the game get to them.>>
While I agree with the latter part of that statement, I'm not sure I understand the former part.
How exactly are the complainers keeping the people who like the game from playing? I've been up on this forum pretty much all night, and it seems the people who are defending the game with their lives are doing so out of choice, and it makes me wonder why they seem to be spending so much time on the forums when they claim to be in love with the game ...
<<I think people need to give this game a chance.>>
I would, if they would send me frfee DVD's (I'll pay postage) and give me a free month. Is that possible?
I'll be darned if I should pay $50 for a game that likely will run craptastically on my system (2.53 gHZ, 1 gig RAM, 6800 video card) and then, as the fanbois suggest, staying with it at $15 bucks a month in the hopes they fix it up over the next 6 months or so.
I did that with DDO and I'm kicking myself for it.
I will share a little secret I learned years ago about playing MMO's
If you want to really enjoy them, dont read forums. Just play and when your not playing, think about playing. Your play enjoyment will be greater and longer in most cases.
Yup its burying your head in the sand to some extent. But I have found that even reading about problems you have not experienced will lower your opinion and therefore your enjoyment of the game most of the time.
Pretty rich from a forum mod.... but the truth is rarely pretty.
