Clearly, the total population of the world is a little over 8 million....

And clearly, EVERYONE of the people on the planet love WoW.

and clearly, I love using rolling smilies

GET OVER IT.  gees if a game has alot of subscribers obviously it is well liked.  or maybe they just like to subscribe bc they hate it so much (sarcasm).

now im gonna get serious.  i guess the people who dont like it just dont have the time to play it.  or that they just dont like the monthly fee.  it is a good game. i dont see why else people dont like it.

Why do people hate WOW?I got your answers you are looking for my friend.

WOW bashing is rarely because of the actual game, but more so of it's community and non educated gamers that reside in WOW.These same non educated players come onto forums ranting and raving about things that for there lack of knowledge are totally false. There is also the high percentage of fanbois that rants unrealism about the game also.

I can use for example, something you eluded to.You are trying to assume 8 million accounts means the game is a good design? How do you even know if the 8 million is an accurate number?I can take any and every part of the game design and equate it to VERY average at best. The fact that so many MIGHT be playing it,is just a matter of timing and the fact it was and maybe still is the ONLY real amercanized MMO out there.Blizzard goes way back offering free online play, alot of fanbois have stuck by blizzard no matter what there product just because of there past .

If you want to look at some comparisons, since you mentioned eq2 as an example. The map world of eq2 is bigger  than WOW[quality and quantity].There is at least 5x more quests in EQ2[quality and quantity].There is alot of LORE in eq2 ,as to wich WOW has almost none. There are epic quests that need raids in eq2 ,so WOW is not breaking anything new ground in this field,it's long been done already. The textures/graphics in EQ2 are more realistic looking and doesn't need a great machine to play it,so WOWs cheap ass graphic design serves no merit.

You mention games not delivering on things they promised?WHat on earth has WOW ever promised that they could break down on?lmao answer>>>nothing,The reason they can't promise anything is that they dont have any great ideas whatsoever in the game,to make any promises. On the same topic i can never remember EQ2 or SONY making any promises they couldn't deliver.I played EQ2 for 1 1/2 yrs and the game was very well done in every aspect except one, that was mesh detection.I am sure others will agree on that point.I know possibly why they made this mistake, alot has to do with keeping poly count down on there mesh design[solid/non solid/semi solid ect.]maybe maybe not IDK,but this is really the only black mark on there game.EQ2 brought in mentoring ,an idea that allows players of any level to play and XP with each other.Great idea that elimnates alot of problems forming a party.

WOW on a whole is a very average game ,that does NOT warrant any ranting or raving about whatsoever. Is the game worth bashing?NOPE not at all,i wouldn't say they do much wrong ,other than there cheap ass graphic design and texture useage. It is just in comparison to other projects out there ,they offer so little to the games genre wich BTW is suppose to be MMORPG.They have no roleplaying designed into there game ,and the massive part is more massive soloing than a design to bring together groups .Perhaps this is why so many in WOW like to raid,it really is the only design that actually tries to bring players together, not seperate them with who spent more on RMT than the other.Again raiding is nothing new to this genre whatsoever,as a matter of fact try  raiding in FFXi ,you will really see a true raid go on for days several hours. The fact that you can solo is again nothing new ,there is 5 million asian games that can do that and easier and better, and they look nicer too.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

other people make and seeks for a different taste that will quench their thirst on online gaming standards..the graphics, the in game features, the community, environment, playing buddies, etc etc...well, a requirements of this specs

-Intel Pentium® IV 1.5 GHz or AMD XP 1500+ MHz

    -1024 MB RAM

-64 MB 3D graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting, such as NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX 5700 class card or above

is not bad in a such game which means higher specs for pc is needed (that i think others not meet..except if they are using p2)...kiddin aside..maybe w0w don't meet their taste for the ingame feature..but i think, 8 million people isn't bad example for playing a excellent game and i haven't even seen any other reasons for leaving and hating the game so far......

It's a fun game, wrecked by a community chock-full of morons. I can't stop wanting to play, and I can't stop hating the experience every time I do play.  I hate it, and I still play it.  In fact, I'm going to go play it right now. I want to see if I can get my warrior to 62 without throwing up.
  • TMSanchezTMSanchez Member Posts: 30

I don't think anyone HATES it.  But not everyone likes it.  Couple this with a TON of people running around saying "________ is stupid and gay and dumb and smells bad.  NOTHIGN IS NBETTER THAN WOW!!!! WOW is teh best.  It has 8 Million players!!  I'm in high school so I know that whatever is the most popular is the best thiung EVER.  Thats wwhy I blast Lil John in my Honda Civic."

Is that every WoW player?  No.  There are people like that on any forum you go to.  For some reason people can't accept that what they play is what they like, it has to be "the best".  Take into account all of those WoW players, giving it the most people screaming how awsome-o it is and it is bound to have a ton of backlash.  Then throw in the people who like feeling they know something most people don't, those people then hate on WoW because it brings tons of non-mmo players looking to headshot with a hunter/ranger and wave e-thingies.

Of course, some people just don't like it.  Like me.  But I don't hate it, I'd play it for free monthly.  Thats about it.

  • I've been playing about a month and so far, it's the community that's killing it for me. Not ALL of the community, but I think when you have so many people the base amount of good and bad people increases, and you're more likely to see the loud boorish brat than the quiet decent fellow enjoying the game. Unfortunately, it's to the point that it interferes with my impression of the game. I literally cannot post on the main forums because of the idiocy it invites. My first post was a simple question, three replies with personal insults at me for being stupid, two posters with conflicting opinions on the subject. Their argument became so heated that the whole thread degenerated into a flame war between two opposing view points. All this over a simple question about the effectiveness of a low level talent.

I see it everywhere on there. If you have a difference of opinion, you are stupid, can't play, must have been sleeping for fifty levels, are a 'retard,' or any number of uncalled for personal attacks. I cannot stand reading the forums. Even some of the guides that are stickied are written in an incredibly insulting and condescending manner.

Cap it off with the amount of twitchy powergaming lunatics inside the game. The first lesson I've learned in groups is that if anything bad happens, it's the healer's fault. The tank engaged something while the casters were all out of mana? Healer is a moron. A caster nukes way too much and pulls aggro, then runs away making it impossible for the tank to taunt it off or the healter to help them. Healer needs to l2p, or whatever other moronic abbreviation they can come up with.

It's not everyone, I know what the percentage of crazies actually is, but it's enough to disrrupt the game, and I'm having serious second thoughts about it so far.

WOW is a great game.  People whine about it a lot but who cares - most of their complaints are rather simple-minded.  I think the graphics are great for a fantasy game.  The community is definetly kind of lame but if you find the right group to hang out with it can be fun.  Plus /ignore works fine for retarded l33t kidz.... It runs smooth - isn't a resource hog - has an interesting story line and can entertain for hours on end.  PVP is great if you can figure out what role your class has in a pvp setting...  two well balanced 5-man teams can be great fun...  The music is well done and adds to the environment ...

BC was a great expansion - its too bad they didn't figure out how to let flying mounts work in Azeroth as well but they are fun in Outland...

Some of the biggest whiners about WOW and Blizzard are just people who want to escape their less than happy lives  at almost every free moment they can muster... anything would get annoying with that kind of intense scrutiny... my suggestion for these people is to get out more and make their real life happy... then when they come and play WOW a few hours at night they will be like... 'Hey this is great!"

WoW is far from a bad game its actually pretty good but it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table or challenge me in the ways other games have done before it.

It’s also very easy, im a former rank 13, I’ve raided Naxx pre tbc and none of it was a challenge I did MC, BWL, AQ40 and Naxx as a raid leader and you want to know what the biggest challenge was? Getting the other 39 people in the raid to pay attention and play their class average to decent for the 4ish hours the raid lasted.

The biggest challenge in wow was to account for the general bad playing most players bring to the table, like an earlier poster said “try being the tank and tanking 6 mobs while people are nuking different target instead of using focus fire” that’s not the game being a challenge that’s the other players sucking at playing it.

The crafting is pretty much useless and non complicated almost regardless of what you craft you can loot better items, the exceptions being the bind on pick up trainer recipes you can get if you have tbc, and this alone is a stupid idea. Why would you level a profession to 375 when pretty much the only sellable items you can make is bind on pick up?

The only professions that are useful as in that they provide a wanted service is Enchanting and alchemy there is a reason why the 2 top moneymakers are and remain mining and herbalism.

The crafting is also under complicated as there is no way to experiment to make your items unique, you can’t name your items, you can’t make a successful crafter in the same way you could in SWG for instance, there is no quality on the items you use to craft with.

WoW is by no means a bad game I just find it too easy to play you can say that this is that the game is so well made that it becomes easy but that’s not the case, go and play a combat rogue and both pvp and pve you essentially use 3 buttons cheap shot, sinister strike and eviscerate.

Wow is great in that it has opened to door into mmorpg’s for a lot of players who have never played one before, but this causes things like people who have no basis of comparison proclaiming it to be the best mmorpg ever made, and thinking its complicated because compared to counter-strike it is.

I enjoy WOW because it DID innovate and improve over other MMOs so much. Previously, I had played The Realm, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Asherons Call. WOW blew them all away, overall. Firstly, the graphics are well done, if a bit cartoony, yet very detailed and colorful. Character creation is dissapointingly limited. Early game is fun, you get skills gradually so you have time to get used to and learn how to use all of them, and get a sense of progression & becoming more powerful. The treasure/item system is decent, you can find some very nice things by just questing or randomly killing everything in a zone. A small but significant innovation is the signal points onscreen and on the map above quest givers, making a traditionally annoying gameplay aspect much more accessible. A big innovation is the Auction house, which makes you wonder why every other MMO hadn't thought of it first it's so brilliant. Another innovation is the battlegrounds, which gives PVP lovers a great avenue to take on the opposite faction and use teamwork for quality rewards and lots of fun. The Talent tree in WOW is a bit dissapointing after the stellar success of the talent trees in Diablio 2, it seems like a step back. Despite numerous complaints, I feel the character classes are quite well balanced, and once you've tried them all out you'll have a newfound respect for the work and testing and tweaking Blizzard has done to make sure each class is viable. Like any game, it has some rough spots, but overall it's one of the best out there for it's genre. And, As many people have pointed out though, even good games get old after a while.

When you drop the devs with the best ideas who want to make a game solely around balance and competition, you screw up. I doubt anyone who defends this game has any relative MMORPG experience in the past and believes EQ1 was the first MMO created.

The reason i don't necessarily like WoW is because it doesn't deserve to be a mainstream title when it's compared to MMOs of a lesser level. Theres too much emphasis on events, has insanely bad gear reliance, the updates are mediocre and often overrated, the customer service is terrible for being such a large scale game (Not that they can't hire any more?), there are absolutely no end-game rewards from PvE (If you think having the best gear after months of farming is a reward... no comment), PvP offers no rewards (Again, gear rewards? No, the game is still the same after you get those gloves with 10 more armor) | The PvP's repetitive and poorly done, the expansion offered nothing that enhanced the gameplay and made it even more gear reliant (regardless of what bias gamespot writers insist), new servers launch without reason (Theres enough empty servers to go around), developers modify aspects of the game on their own free will and take action too quickly whenever a community civil war breaks loose (my class sux buff it, that class' op nerf it), and it isn't new and innovative. All because a game is based in a different fantasy universe doesn't mean its any different than the traditional.

I actually enjoyed the creative layout on some of the zones.

And all in all even through so many mistakes, It benefits developers working on future titles through experience.

Sorry if it seems generic, but It's not worth putting into little details. It's not a bias because its a mainstream game, It's honesty and I've came to decent reasoning with every MMORPG created since 1996.

-Sorry to disappoint .1% of the world... (Thats a s#!t load of people)

no i think not everyone hates this game..they just not want the features of it or maybe they are stuck on another game and cant help quiting out of it...every person have wants differ from another...we just have to mind our own pretty gaming life...but i regret people having no idea how awesome w0w is..they better shift their game and go try w0w

pvp is not the best in wow...just to clear that up. and there are worst games(i.e. runescape) i think we should start a why do so many ppl play runescape, but its a crapy game. its like nintendo 64) the story is crap and end game was a joke.nothing to do at the end just repetitive stuff. and there are other games that cater to all crowds and audiences.

basically i wouldnt play wow if jesus himself thumped me on the bak of my head and told me to or i die...its not the best . the only reason ppl like it is because its made by blizzard. and every one who like blizzards games moved immidiately to wow giving it its 1mil +subscribers.

then when other games come out they say "its just a rip off of wow". cant rip off something thats been done b4...wow brought nothing new to the rpg world..cept another crappy rpg.

    lets review...

    reasons to hate wow,

    -too easy to lvl

    -repetitive /linear gameplay

    -uninteresting pvp

    -terrible community

-terrible customer service(could be better i.e. play guild wars and run into a scammer. report him and hes gone in a day or two.)

    -end game is a joke

-monthly fee(why pay for a game youve already payed for)

-there are better games out there(some that are free)

    -story is dumb(in my opinion)

-noobs to the mmo world on there

-its a watered down rpg, its like having vodka on the rocks...but letting the rocks melt

-basically its not a game id want to pay my money play. its a big disapointing pile of poop in the toilet of the gaming industry.

hopefully blizzard will reclaim its honor by making another mmo that doesnt require a monthly fee.

why pay every month for a load of crap. id rather play eq it looks better . community is pretty cool and customer service is good, so im getting my moneys worth. basically if you play wow and u think its the greatest thing since sliced deli meat take a screen shot in wow and compare it to another mmo that has a monthly fee(or even a free one) and youll have no problem leaving it. also compare the story and pvp. youll see a difference and youll notice why ppl hate wow.

    Ok.

"imbisile" is spelled imbecile. "grammer" is spelled grammar. The correct form of your in sentence 3 should be you're, not your. "Pissess" should be pisses. "Apaul" isn't even a word. "footbal" is spelled Football. And lastly, many sentences lack a captial letter for the beginning word.

So whose spelling and grammar is terrible? Go away.
  • Dark-AsylumDark-Asylum Member Posts: 300
Your horrific grammar wouldn't have made any difference to me but you decided to lay siege to someone else's grammar when your skills are apparently lacking. Good day sir.

... by the way he used it, i think he meant "apalls" not "apauls". but seriously, as people here like to say, clean your own yard before you start dissin about other people's yards.

and this is starting to look like a flame thread to me, but i wonder who's the one that's really getting flamed...

Ok so to return to the original point...

WoW would not have millions of subscribers if it wasn't a good game. It's as simple as that. What it comes down to is personal preference. If you want a challenge, don't play WoW. Be a warrior, right click, go eat a sandwich, come back and reap the rewards. Now if you want a challenge (and most MMORPG'ers don't) play EQ or UO or Vanguard. If the first two of those games' communities weren't slowly dying off and the economies weren't ruined you can bet i'd be there with bells on.

But I digress. I don't hate wow, I simply got bored with it.

    my timetable/guide for wow success:

Level 1-10: One afternoon. Newbie quests, no real danger.

Level 11-69: Several months. Grind, quests here and there, no real danger.

Level 70: Raid. Raid until your eyes fall out.

Since i havent experienced the full content and length of the game. Thinking about rejoining because quite a few friends of mine play. Yeah its pretty simple getting levels, pretty fast, but if it was really slow would that not become a complaint as well? I think its a fun game and people don't give it a chance because of the negative comments others make. Those are my two cents, im looking forward to non-assy replies.

    why does everyone hate wow?

a bunch of anti socials, immature folks, complaining about the community...

heck, i dunno why everyone hates it.  gogogo asia go!

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Why do i hate wow? ... I dont. simple as that.

Played the game from day 1 till 3 weeks after the release of Burning Crusade.

I stopped because it got boring as hell. More of the same.... Also because just before BC came out and also in the weeks after i think about 20-30 ppl i know from both horde and alliance stopped playing because the same reason. Friends quitting is a pain and proberly the final push also for me.

I wanted a change so we (about 10 old friends from wow) decided to play other MMORPG's like VG who are taking the Genre a bit further then WoW. i dont say its better then wow, only it goes a step further (crafting, diplomacy etc.) And pls dont start about bugs etc. thats not the idea of the post.

WoW was my door to the MMORPG genre and now the time has come to take a look what games are out there. (VG/LOTRO/Conan etc.) Most people, including me, started to play because they played the RTS series. Atleast, thats what i was hearing over and over when i started to play.

I had a great time in wow, from the 1 Molten Core raid till the first kill in Naxxramus and allot of stuff in between. I will never forget that for sure.

Only thing i hate allot is that WoW is almost bin crowned King of Mmorpg while i think there are mmorpg's out there who desurve as much attention and a chance. And when a "possible" good mmorpg commes out like LOTRO for example everything that swears to wow jumps on it saying its a clone etc. I think we should have a fresh look towards new games and dont use every element that looks like something from wow to say its a clone. Also i think the ppl who keep saying a game is a clone already start to play a new game with a negative additude, especially if you draw this conclussion in 2 days play. I dont know about you guys but every new mmorpg i play i need atleast a few days to know what is what and how everything works.

     Thats just my 2cents.

and i hate blizzard for many reasons, they refuse to implement true new content (oh great they implement new dungeons, wow!, but actually the only "major" thing they implemented was the battlegrounds)
and when they're adding true new content (new items, talents, etc) they just make it into an MUST expansion and sells it for 50$
making MUST xpacks is market strategy, i know, but changing level cap with a MUST xpack? that's just bullshit of their part
i betae'd it for some weeks and played it for 2 months after launch, and i gotta say i've never seen such a bad community in my whole life. i was just tired of hearing "dud you're a nub cuz i got from 20 to 60 in a day u just sux man get a life u fail at universe u cosmic trash" and shit like that. and seeing guilds full of gm dupers just annoyed the hell out of me.
i still don't know why people pay that much to buy a game and then quit 3 months later because only some people are "strong" enough mentally to do the same instace 10 times per day and still have fun.
every MMO community has this things..there are lot of complainers on why the others are leveling fast, they don't ask themselves if it's just they suck in playing. in my case..i just don't mind those people. i know that i can't avoid them so i just do my stuff and igonre them!

My personal and individual experience is somewhat different.

Each time I subscribe to a game I subscribe for 1 month only.  I do not approve of the auto renew and I like to personally authorise any payments I make deliberately not automatically.

So I always cancel immediatley after I sub. Then I can re-evaluate my subscription next month, see if I want to play more or maybe spend the money on a different game instead.

With WoW, when I cancelled my first subscription the webpage automatically asked me why I had done so and was there anything that I thought they could improve.

I wrote that I did not like the auto renew feature that will just blindly charge my credit card if I unsubscribe. That I feel this is an underhand business approach la di la di la....

Next month when I came to do it again, there was a new button in the subscriptions menu. It said buy one month without auto renew.

What more could I ask for?

EQ isn't more challenging than WoW.  Here's why:

It just takes longer to do stuff in EQ.  Levelling for instance, the most efficient way to grind is finding a good camp with a decent puller and 4 other hardcore players and repeat, with some semi-rare named for variety.  I'm not saying that  this is a crap, because I did this for years, just saying it required no challenge, just time.  And EQ'ers, remembering how difficult it could be to find that balanced group - difficulty in finding players - not difficulty in the content itself.

As for raiding. Bleh.  Citadel of Anguish was the last raid expansion I  took part in, and it was awesome.  But the WoW encounters are on par with this, and once you've learned how to beat them, then it becomes a bore for either game.  Sure, Mata-Muram are super hard can go wrong very easily but this is true with current end-game BC raids too.

People say WoW offers less than EQ1, they're wrong.  In EQ1 you're happy as a pig in muck to sit in one spot and turn on auto attack, or press complete heal if it means your exp bar is moving along nicely.  WoW offers far more in terms of things "TO DO".  I can quest, grind, attend one of the many regular special events, such as fishing competitions, or carnivals, or I can go to a battleground at ANY time and find a challenge in PvP.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
