You're assuming that most or even many of those people will upgrade their rigs to play VG. They might upgrade down the road, but by that time games like LOTRO, Warhammer, and AoC will be out and VG might get seriously lost in the shuffle.
And don't forget many people aren't playing because of the bugs and the generally unfinished condition of the game.
Looks like "Never" is winning by quite a few lengths in popular opinion. I actually read a post on Silkyvenom today with quite a few people on there having an interesting discussion on how the game could be tailored more to appeal to World of Warcraft fans.
All in the interest of gaining more subscriptions.
It will never get there, probably never get to 250k. I know a lot of people that are not playing because we need to upgrade our PC's but, once that's done, we'll play this one hardcore.

For grammar, spelling and delusion.
Remember, aside from WoW, the only game with a huge player base (over 400k) is (or was) EQ. Vanguard will not reach these numbers.
They might sell 500k boxes eventually a long time from now, but there won't be 500k subs EVER. I'm sure it's safe to say that a big majority of those who buy the game don't renew their subscriptions.

I will be renewing mine for sure, having a blast. I wonder how many other people out there like me feel the same way, im sure a lot.
I can not see this game (which I do play a lot of) reaching 500k subs. Honestly the game will do fine and it will likely reach 200k 250k tops, and that is all it needs to be good.
Ok Bill Gates, 64K MEM is all we will ever need hehehehe, It has only been one month and i think there doing good already considering it came out before it was finished

Renewed and will be playing for a long time to come.
Quite frankly I don't care if it ever gets more than 250k, what matters is that the game will do fine for most likely the several years that I'm going to be playing it :P
I can not see this game (which I do play a lot of) reaching 500k subs. Honestly the game will do fine and it will likely reach 200k 250k tops, and that is all it needs to be good.
Doubtful it will even get that high. There is just too much better competition. LoTR will come out, then we have AoC and Warhammer. The list will get longer and VG will limp along on, surviving on the lifesupport of the Station Pass.
Good thing they built such a huge world! When they consolidate all the servers, you probably won't even notice!
Personally I don't think it will ever make 500K subscriptions. Yes I have played the game, and yes I will not be renewing my subscription. The game is buggy, and will be buggy for a very long time, Along with that Sigil is Alternating hitting the game with the nerf bat and then seeing they hit to hard trying to correct it in other areas (ie nerf player created weapons by 40% and then increase class damage in abilities) As far as I can see Brad is counting every box purchased as a subscriber even though i image a fair amount that have tried it like myself are no longer subscribers. The game itself has its good as well as its bad parts, but the requirements to actually run it with sound on and higher then min graphics is well above what they listed as a suggested machine if you actually decide to do battle with more then just 1 player standing by.
To sum it up, it promised many it would be a hardcore game like EQ1 was for several years. It isn't, Then it seemed to promise it would be palyable by solo'ers and casual gamers which it does in varying degrees, but those looking for a new WoW, DAoC, or EQ2 even will probably not care for it much in its current state. With Lots of new MMORPG's on the way I figure it will be hard for VG in its still beta state to hang onto players especialy with many of those players already in their 30's or higher and with no expansions likely for another year or 2 at least
it will get there soon prolly even get to a mill i know lots of ppl that r not playing cos we need to upgrade our pc's but once thats done we will play this hardcore

And I don't see VG grabbing any sort of audience from asia. I had to reply to this. Im not a SOE supporter. Vanguard is the 3rd flop of games that had good ideas which went bad. EQII,SWG, and now Vanguard.
Im guessing this poster is young or got into MMORPGs later on. First EQ had close to 2 million subscribers from 1999-2001. Then DAOC, and SWG came out which lowered those numbers. WOW killed the game that was EQ.
You know I have nothing against Sigil. But the majority of developers for Sigil are ex-EQ developers. These are the same developers that helped with SWG and EQII. They have a ideology that doesnt work. They need to change there approach to a MMORPG. For as long as those developers keep the approach they have the games will flop out.
I agree with those who think this is a niche game and never reaching more than 500k.
With the issues it still faces like bugs and performance issues, the extreme requirements (without an adequate payoff I might add), and game design choices, I don't see this game ever getting more than 500k subscribers. The games death penalty is just one of those design choices that will hurt it that pretty much solidifies it's place as a hardcore/niche game- almost not suitable to the casual crowd. I am a player on the casual side and I simply don't have the time to go back and recover the lost XP from dying when XP is hard to come by as it is. Progressing is slow- I like feeling like I can accomplish something in-game no matter if I play 3 hours or 30 minutes, not the case with Vanguard (and this is something I feel the king- WoW- does excellently). The focus on grouping is another thing. Some people like to solo through the game because grouping can take too much time and energy from someone who lacks either (yes, even though it is an MMO. But there are other aspects to MMOs than grouping for quests- GIVE SOLOERS A CHANCE). And the oddest part of that, usually accompanying and being a reason for being called a niche game is PVP. Usually niche-type games have a focus on hardcore-PVP which estranges this game even more as it lacks a solid PVP basis. These are just a couple of reasons why I don't see it surpassing 500k.
By the time the things are fixed or they make changes to the fundamentals to be more inviting to the casual player, the next great game will be out (Conan-who is able to take extra time to fix issues, Warhammer - not sure about much, but it does have a solid background to it, LOTRO - can tell you that this is incredibly more inviting to casual and highly polished from experience, Pirates OTBS- this is a splash of something different in MMOs and may pay off in the end, etc etc, pretty much something for everybody).
Its not a niche game. Who would you think it would be a niche for? Hardcore people? Its not hard to solo. Players that only want to fight? What about the crafting system or diplomacy? People that only want to craft? Sure why not, you don't have to fight.
As far as I'm concerned, you don't have a clue what the game is about Balisidar. You haven't played, all you do is flame.
Actually, it is a niche game... A small niche of people that thinks pressing a few buttons in a row takes great skill, and that they are mighty skillfull in pressing buttons, and that others.... for some obscure reason... do not have this useful button pressing skill and is therefor inferior. Also, this little niche thinks that when people say "Hey, wassis then, govnr? This aint that different from uther games just simpler than the old ones, innit?", it really means that they dont understand the button pressing process, and are are fools since they cant see the difference in these buttons compared to other buttons. Also, this niche has decided that the best way to gain more followers and friends, is to insult anyone and everyone for their lack of buttonpressing skill and i the end, tell them to go to another game and press other buttons that.. somehow... is supposed to be easier and less challening to press.
And then they wonder why people laugh at them all the time.
Good luck on finding a game that you don't need to press buttons I heard a rumor that Nintendo will be making a Wii-mote for the PC!
(just joking)
Someone has already setup a Wii remote on the PC... you can see it on youtube.com. Some dude playing WoW with a Wii remote.
Ok here is what i feel can happen. In about 2 year or they might never hit it at all.But it will be hard as hell to hit because of all the other games coming out this year alone. Not to talk about the ones coming next year.If they released this game a year earlier then sure i feel they would be up to 500k subs now or close to it.But as we all know this game would not have been ready at all by then just by looking at the release.
So that is my fair answer to that question how long before vanguard hits 500k subs about 2 years due to all the blockbusters coming out in 2007.Really not a good year for this game to be out in the state that it is in even with all the kool things this game has to offer. Like the cool crafting and the havesting is a blast to really see trees fall when you chop them down and stuff sweet. And owning your own boat and house are kool also, but let's face it many ppl won't come to this game just because they want to own there own boat or house are craft and many other things the game as to offer. This game had a bad start and word a month travels fast i don't care what type of advertising you do it will be hard to change alot of ppl's minds about this game. Just because of most ppl know some one that played this game and told them there toughts about the game. And based on that most ppl won't buy it .Who am i kidding some ppl don't even know anybody in the game all they do is read reviews and forums about the game and say i am not buying it go figure.
I really would like to see them hit 500k but i think it's going to take longer than they wanted or it might never happen at all. 2007 will not be vanguards year

Sorry, delusional vanboys and delusional ringboys who believe LotRO will also hit 500k subscribers, here are the cold hard facts:
Only a handful of games have ever had 500k or more subscribers:
1) World of Warcraft
2) Lineage
3)Lineage 2
4)Runescape
5) Final Fantasy XI
6) Everquest
Noticing a trend here?
