Copying Blizzard?

First they made a Strategy game, just like blizzard made warcraft 3, and now making an mmorpg based on that strategy games just like warcraft 3 is based on wow? isn't it strange

Warhammer's OLDER than Warcraft, get your facts right. (See 25 Years of Warhammer)

The original MMO of Warhammer (By Climax Inc) was in development at the same time as WoW, but funding at the time was cut.

Shadow of the Horned Rat was around at the same time as Warcraft Orcs and Humans.

Not even worth my time to say any more.

Oh my god what the hell are you talking about? You know what I think is strange? People not knowing ANYTHING about nothing yet has the balls to spew out such flame-baiting stuff like you just did.

Congratulations for winning the 2007 troll award.

    Dear OP:

Did you know that Warcraft was originally the copy?  It's true!  Long ago, Blizzard and GS were planning on making a RTS based on the Warhammer universe.  A game with Humans and Orcs at war.  But, for reasons I'm not clear on, GS pulled the plug on the deal.  Blizzard still wanted to make their RTS, so they "altered" the story somewhat and gave it a new name.  Oddly, they didn't even try to hide the connection, making the characters and even the name very similar.  Warcraft was born.

Since then, GS has continued to attempt to translate their Intelectual Property into the world of video games.  While Warcraft was released as a video game first, Warhammer existed before it.  I suppose it's debateable who is copying who...

Or we can stop worrying about and just enjoy both for what they are.  I mean, seriously.  Does it really matter if one copied the other?  Or who copied who?

    Seriously.

Any game that can make the Wowwers flame, cry, rant, grunt, or whatever they do, is welcomed by me.  I myself am looking forward to this game. A ton of new games this year, enjoy it!

Lol, sorry.  I forget that some people are too young to remember the past.  Or weren't following these games back then.  Truly, this all happened before the internet was widespread, so I don't blame you for missing all of it.

I'll try to find some info on this later on.  Gotta get back to work at the moment.

Regardless of origins... you will find the gameplay in WAR to be considerably different from WOW....

WAR lore has been around longer than Warcraft. As a mater of fact Warcraft was based of WAR lore. BUT, They are all virtually rip offs of Tolkien.

It's almost impossible to make something fantasy based these days without seeing Tolkein's influence.

Well I was 16 when I bought Warcraft: orks and humans... i look forward to the "Proof" you are going to supply.  The only mention of this is a few posts on forums which start with "its rumored" "Ive been told" "apparently" "its believed" in-short not 1 bit of definative evidence that Warcraft was developed to be Warhammer exisits.

I might even email blizzard and GW to put an end to this.

On my travels looking for proof either way I came apon posts saying blizzard copied WH40K with starcraft... when will end?

Please do so, that way we don't have to see the word proof in "quotes" or in LARGE FONTS for a while. Thanks buddy .

Quoted from Iris Van Schouten 06-07-19 @ ggl.com:

"It wouldn't be fair to say that Mythic Entertainment copied everything from World of Warcraft. Then we would also have to admit that Blizzard took a good look at the Warhammer universe and based a great deal of their game on this franchise. Whoever "stole"? what from whom doesn't matter. It's clear that both games resemble each other on several points, mostly the good points. But there are some major differences that could decide which one of the two is better."

Other than that, let's stop this utterly worthless and childish thread right now.

a little quote from wiki "Since first appearing in 1983 Warhammer has been periodically updated and re-released with changes to the gaming system and army lists" also the start of the trailer for the mmo shows 25 years of warhammer.  also from wiki "Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is a real-time strategy computer game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment [1] in 1994" thought id show the dates etc

warhammer was always a tabletop game where you painted up your little pewter army laid out a gameboard, and went to war. I think at the time it started, I dont think home computers were even around yet. Kinda hard for blizzard to have come first dont you think?
  • Math_BlasterMath_Blaster Member Posts: 50
Um...Warhammer: Mark of Chaos was not the first Warhammer strategy game. Shadow of the Horned Rat was and it came out just a year after Warcraft. Besides, Warcraft 3 and Mark of Chaos are not really even close to being the same game.

Also, in Mark of Chaos the only race that resembles a Warcraft race are the high elves who are still very different from the elves in Warcraft.

Finally, why the hell does it really matter? Warcraft is a fun game and Warhammer is fun too (even though I would say Warhammer is better). Please learn more about the games that you say were ripping each other off before descending into a mindless argument. WAR isn't even out yet; how the hell do you know it's the same was WoW; have you played both? You can't even say that Warcraft 3 and MoC are the same game- compare in-game screenshots of each and you'll see two very different games.
