It's common to assume that Warhammer copies Blizzard because Blizzard has become such a large entity and is much more well known. However, as others have said Games Workshop has been around a long time. GW does indeed borrow ideas from past concepts, but Warhammer came before Warcraft. Warcraft has evolved from a common seed into an entirely new universe, which is good.
Take orcs for example. In Warcraft they are a shamanistic race with a troubled past but a decidedly noble outlook. In Warhammer orcs are half-crazed brutes who speak in cockney accents and are obsessed with fighting and 'orciness.' At the end of the day, Tolkien wrote about orcs (adapting from previous myths I believe), Warhammer took the orc idea and went in a new direction, and Warcraft took that idea and went elsewhere. If you've played the original two games you'll notice that the average orc is (besides the exceptional ones like Doomhammer or Gul'dan) pretty stupid and crazy. In one manuel an orc scout describes his recon mission through the dark portal and barely being able to write correctly.
It's not just warcraft, either. Starcraft is also full of borrowed ideas, many of them from Warhammer 40k (who in turn borrowed from others). Starship Troopers Bugs-->Tyranids-->Zerg.
It doesn't matter in the end. Consider them cousins, similar genetics but wildly different upbringing.

I love Warcraft, I love Warhammer. I knew Warcraft before Warhammer, but I was converted to loving Warhammer. It is indeed true that the background make-ups are extremely alike, but they vary so much in the modern day and age, that they no longer resemble each other very much.
WC3 was probably the great schism that separated the franchises the most. Orcs became noble warriors, Taurens were introduced, Undead hordes and eventually the Forsaken came about, as well as Night Elf involvement via Illidan, and all the good stuff. Warhammer stayed it's route of everlasting conflict and quirky armies.
Though I love both franchises, and have come to learn a lot about both, I must say that I find Warhammer to be superior in my opinion. I love the endless quirks of greenskins, and the twisted corruption that is Chaos (also unique to Warhammer). I love the endless back-stories, the grudge-bearing dwarves, and self-destructive humans.
Occurences aren't even close to perfect in Warcraft, no, but they seem a bit more... orderly. Warhammer is all-out chaos. Nobody is good, everyone is on the brink of destruction, and the constant fear of corruption and oblivion is ever-present. Conflict is inescapable. I love the all out war!

Games Workshop won't let them be changed from what they are. There will have to be some modifications to the rulesets around Greenskins because you can't really have Greenskins attacking Greenskins if they don't have anyone else to fight, but I believe Mythic will capture the feel of what the Greenskins are.

Hello there. Have you ever wondered WHY you react like that when something like this happends?
WoW is successfull and if it can appeal to so many OF COURSE others start picking up the tactics to keep players playing! This has happened 1000'ds of years ago with ANYTHING there ever was. As soon as something got good or better people start working AROUND that to improove it.
WoW isn't the BEST game there ever can be just because it's the first which revolutionary got INCREDIBLY popular by being "simple". There's SO much more that can be done and WARHAMMER is on the good way of taking the whole thing to a brand NEW level.
Don't be afraid about another game coming that simly is BETTER than WoW (mechanics, content, reliability, smoothness and looks). Because we damn well know it CAN and WILL happen sooner or later. WoW has had it's prime time and that's fine. But it's only a matter of time before something else becomes the "new deal".
So instead of rising your back hair and showing your claws, open up your arms to embrace whatever is coming to us all.
