Romero did more right then wrong. Brad worked on one major game Everquest . Vanguard was Brad's break away project, and he flopped it.
I don't see brad working with Warren Specter on Deus EX ? Or Valve/Sierra in Half-Life . Brad has almost no experience as a major developer.
I will wait for Romero's "when it is done" mmo , rather then " omfg we ran out of money, ship it NOW !!!!!"
I agree with you there, and I wasn't really trying to compare the two guys' work overall.. rather the attitude a developer can get when he has way too many people telling him his game is awesome, even if it isn't. Maybe instead of comparing Romero and BMQ, I should have compared Vanguard to Diakatan, as the end result of that kind of attitude. I also think that unfortunately, no matter what Romero did before that game, it's sorry state, and his rock-star attitude during it's production are the reason we haven't seen publishers willing to throw cash at him to develop a triple A title since then.
You can't compare one of Romero's games to half a decade of work that Vanguard is. It is like saying I can only compare this one slice of American Apple Pie to every Paris bakers éclairs

It probably won't go away but I agree with a lot of other that Sigil will go away. SOE will pull a NGE of sorts and the game will join Planetside and The Matrix in SOE's stable of has beens and never been games that survive on the Station Pass and one server.
vanguard imho is the new thing, they've just brung it out when it should still be in closed beta theres still 1000's of things wrong with it but once there fixed, and they are fixing them daily this game will start liftin it self up n i can't wait.
And by the time everything is fixed to the degree it should have been to start with, there will be half a dozen "new things" out that will be ready from the start.

VG is a linear game that adds little to the genre, just like LotRO. Difference is LotRO already has a following and a great launch up ahead. But both games will be smacked hard when the more innovative games hit the shelf.

Possibly right but same as SWG, there will always be people playing (and you cant really stop that). I still have friends on my Xfire list that play it on a regular gaming basis. I don't like SOE that much over the reason that they released SWG with an incomplete feeling, which ruined my taste for Star Wars games. Buyers remorse ? Isn't that in reference to someone buying something and being sorry they did? Have I not expressed how much I enjoy playing Vanguard? Wheres the remorse? I'm enjoying the game greatly and consider Vanguard to be a very good value for me.
There is no denial...as a grown man with 3 kids..I'm pretty sure I know what video games I enjoy and what I don't. I have fun playing Vanguard...so do alot of other people. Most people don't post on the forums..particularly happy gamers. I post only to preach the gospel of Vanguard and at time find it amusing to dance with the trolls.-

Vanguard is at the point now where it should have at launch. When was the last time you played?...I suspect it's been several weeks. No game is great for everyone...but I do think Vanguard will be great for many.

Some will..some won't. What I think is Vanguard is going to draw large numbers of gamers from other games. Don't be fooled by these forums...the do not represent the majority of gamers out there. The majority of gamers are playing their games. Out of the thousands of people I have met in games and had conversations with...none has ever made any reference what so ever to mmorpg.com and it's forums. Only a few people have mentioned getting some of their gaming news from here. I'm not really sure who is the majority on these boards. Based on the what I've read...we have alot of bitter old people and alot of immature kid types. I guess I'm part of the bitter old people crowd....alas..to be young again. Those were the days.

Ok..this is where I know you are full of crap. Linear?....lol...there is absolutely nothing linear about Vanguard cept it's levels....in one school. It's important to note....this is no different than any other mmo...should we level sideways? How is there to level cept in a linear fashion....up.
Keep in mind...there are 3....4 if you consider harvesting....spheres you can gain experience in. Adventure, craft, and diplomacy....and harvesting..sorta. Take into consideration guild play and whatever personal quests you come up with and what you got is a pretty good size sand box.
If you don't like Vanguard....fine. There will be people that hate whatever your favorite game is too. Different strokes for different folks man. I dig Vanguard...if a better game comes out for me?....then I will play that one...lol...doh!

The beta of LOTRO is far better than Vanguard is today. The graphics are better. The gameplay is better. The game is more stable. The bugs are FAR fewer.
Whether or not it's boring is a matter of opinion.
