If I was making a game I'd rather use my own intellectual property as well. Dragon Age has been in development for a very long time. Imagine if it was a D&D or Lucas Arts game they would have forced it out the doors a long time ago and it wouldnd't be complete. It also allows them to make the game as they see fit instead of how someone else feels things should be.
what does this thread mean to those of you hoping for a KotR MMO? http://forums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=468659&forum=22&sp=0 specifically Chris Priestly's comments on page 2 "Basically, don't hold your breath for another KotOR game coming from BioWare." and Bioware Designer James Henleys comments "BioWare is more interested in pursuing the development of its own intellectual properties.
And that's all there is to it. "
is this just some riddle to you guys?
You do know Bioware announced a Sonic RPG several days ago for the DS right? So much for working on their own IP.
I think they're producing a Baldur's Gate title, but the fact they still haven't outright denied a KOTOR MMO is what's leaving people scratching their heads.

Sometimes doing the exact opposite of rushing a game out can be a bad thing too. Developers say they want to take their time to make sure it's "right", but is a game ever complete? There's always someting that can be improved upon. Sometimes having a person cracking the whip behind you can be a good thing...case in point, Dragon Age. It's been in development forever and there's no guarantee that it will be any good.
Wasn't Jade Empire in development for a long time as well? I'm not saying it was a bad game, but it wasn't the blockbuster everyone was expecting.

The point being that the developer would prefer to have the time to produce the game they feel is complete and is their vision even if it doesn't do well. No one wants to be dictated to. If I had the option I sure wouldn't choose to have the deadline or the restrictions.

so, since they specifically said KotOR game and not KotOR MMO is the difference here?
they also said the MMO they are working on is a completely new IP. Not only is Star Wars an existing IP, its probably the biggest and most well known IP there is.

ummmm KOTOR would be a rlly nice MMO would be hard to make but it would be to much like SWG but i want it like the Pre-CU swg days :] so fun.....but mass effect looks like a cool game ive seen actual gameplay that would make a fantastic sci-fi MMO....u would need very high graphix cards for that game tho.... i would say KOTOR all the way
I know most of the posters have chosen KOTOR and I really would like to see a good Star Wars MMO. But, I'm not sure if this is the best time line. I know that it give freedom to have an insane amount of jedi running around but it presents the problem of having an insane amount of jedi running around. What other classes/profession would be around.
Also in my opinion there needs to be two factions at least that can fight. Not just PvP, I always had fun killing stromtroopers ant chance I got. I'm not really sure if KOTOR will offer this.
Anyway I guess I'm hoping for some type of Star Wars MMO ( I would be happy with the one I played a couple years ago) but I don't really think Bio-ware will listen any more than SOE.
They are currently in that world, they are working a lot on that setting, they know it well...
If the 2009 release date is to be considered seriously, since they start working on it when? In 2006? I know they are ubah and the best devs around, but wouldn't it make even more sense that it is Dragon Age?
I see them talk a LOT about Mass Effect...but they are freaking quiet about that game, which was award many prices in it developpment since 2004.
I call you out, BioWare, thy MMO is Dragon Age! Isn't it? Do I win something, or a try again ticket? Hehehe.
EDIT: That doesn't mean the single player RPG isn't going to be released...in fact, it will prolly serve as a promotion for the MMO.

Elder Scrolls online. Perma death. Don't EVER DARE turn your back! They're creeping up behind you with their daggers... Honestly if done right it could be good. Would have to be ridiculously harsh consequences for crimes... Maybe if they made it so citizens had babies so that everyone didn't die... Now that I think about it it could be done so it was COMPLETELY run by the players... if done wrong it would be hell though. Like GTA online would be.

Yeah, like it has anything to do with this thread. White Wolf has already signed the deal with the makers of Eve, and BTW, I happen to think Vampire The Requiem is a better system. The old one had far too many clans and not enough sects.

a Dragon Age MMO makes a lot of sense actually, the more I think about this topic the more I tend to agree with folks who think Dragon Age
not only would it be a somewhat original concept (not 100%) but it would pull in gamers from the west as well as the east. we all know how the game market is in the east

So they are making a game the minority of people want?
I love how developers think; they seem to always do the opposite of what people want. So, if a developer generates an idea, the rule should be for companies to do the EXACT opposite of what is proposed!

There is no way to creating another fantasy MMO by Bioware. They cant be stupid so much. at least a Sci-fic MMO by a new IP, i hope.

I think there is enough Fantasy RPGs out or coming out. Alot of them are great games, but to me there are no good Sci-Fi games out. So I would like to see a Sci-Fi MMO come out by BioWare.
I bet I would try out the game just for because BioWare's name is on it because so far I have liked every game they have put out
My fear is that if they made a KOTOR MMO, it would be a Tabula Rasa clone w/ a Star Wars theme. Although, a Jedi vs. Sith game would be pretty sweet if done right.

For me Kotor, of course. I LOVED BG, but enough fantasy right now.

Heaven versus Hell
