If you want to call it that. He is being kept on by SoE as a consultant which means pretty much nada.

I also am neither a fanboy or SoE hater but somewhere in between giving them the benefit of the doubt. Like another poster stated, they started out as just a publishing company. Now they have grown into a major player in the MMO market. Yes they have made mistakes, but I don't know of anyone person or company out there that has never made a mistake. The true sign of character is whether or not that person fixes or learns from thier mistakes.

This announcement made me laugh really hard.  I'm glad I never subscribed to Vanguard after the initial trial period.  What a major let down.  By the time the game gets 'fixed' it'll be forgotten.   But what do you expet from Sigl in the first place?  They posted pics or their office which made it look like everyone there played around more than worked.  Imagine if they spent more time developing the game than decorating their cubes.

Vanguard is already part of Station Access if that is what you meant. You can check out station access information at http://station-access.station.sony.com/

Sort of. He's now an "outside consultant", which has to be a kick in the nads for his ego.

Basically, the guy's been shoved out of his own company and replaced, with Smed occasionally taking his calls, or reading his e-mails. He can feel important, since he's still consulting, but he won't have any direct influence on the game or its direction anymore.

It's been part of the Station Pass since day one.

I find it convenient that SOE makes Sigil release the game before it's ready and then after it flounders for a couple months due to it's buggy release they buy it. Seems like a recurring tactic after SW:G and The Matrix.

    2. We do not plan on making any major changes to Vanguard. Any changes are going to come from the team itself. We aren't mandating any big changes to the game. We've learned a thing or two with our experiences with the NGE and don't plan on repeating mistakes from the past and not listening to the players.

They actually admited that they fucked up the Nge?! thats a shocker! but on another note this seems just like what parents would say kid after they signed the divorce papers. lol i know daddy wont be here but you will still see him and he will promise to take you to go get icecream lolol.

He ment station pass, not station all access. Station pass comes with all access, but can also be purchased seperately. Station pass consists of 3 minor games. Check the "station pass" tab in that link you posted.

As much as i hate vanguard pleas please pleas don't decide to not play this just because its soe. Grow up and get your own oppinion. The majority of people on this site DIDNT ever get screwed by them yet everyone jumps on the hate soe bandwagon. If this game goes sour then hate them but get your own opinion.

    1. Brad McQuaid will be consultant to SOE as a creative advisor for Vanguard. Dave Gilbertson will be the person directly responsible for the day-to-day management of both the Sigil Carlsbad office as well as Vanguard.
I would bet lot of money that meaning, that in reality Brad has basicly no say on how Vanguard is gonna be developed anymore.

GG on basicly getting fired 3 months after the release of your "first 3rd generation game" Brad.

Oh and in this interview Smedley basicly confirms the rumor that Brad hasnt been seen around the office lately and Sigil has been run by Dave Gilbertson already before this change.

Anyway I really hope SOE can do same to Vanguard they did to EQ2. I hate the world but does Vanguard does have lot potential. Especially the world already probably the best in any mmorpg. Hopefully SOE can build on that.

Yes soe released most of their games unpolished.  but soe had nothing to do with mxo release. they boght it after the failed release as a bundle with the rights for the dc comics mmo from warner brothers.

Reguarding Vanguard you should not forget that their first deal with microsoft vanguard would have been released even earlier (or never), soe gave sigil some extra time, not enough it seems but how much more money would they have burned if they had pushed release back and back.

Yeah, Sigil told Sigil to spend 30+ million and over 5 years in development, and then refused to keep pouring money into something that had more than enough time/money in it already.

    Shame on SOE huh?

Sorry, those kind of idiotic posts just annoy the hell out of me. SOE had nothing to do with Sigil's failure to develop a game, that's entirely on Sigil's shoulders. Hell, when Sigil was hitting bottom end of last year, SOE sent them coders to help finish the game for release. The fact is, they tried to help Sigil get VG ready for release, and to make it successful. I know this is novel, but most companies who invest in something, do so because they want to make money. How much more money do you think they'd have made if VG had been successful from the get-go?

Ok, so really, Outside Consultant means- "We throw you a little cash and you can't talk about how we F'd you and your new little company over to the SoE haters."  Seriously, I remember when the news first hit where Microsoft and Sigil split and Brad whored himself over to John "The Anti-Christ" Smedly and they made such a HUGE deal over how "SoE is only  publishing the title"  and "We won't be involved in any of the day to day operations of the game itself".  Everyone cried foul, except the Sigil/Vanguard Fan Bois who all said Brad will never sell us out completely to SoE, it just won't happen.  LOL YOU LOST, LOSER LOSER LOSER....I TOLD YOU SO AH HA HA HA HA HA HA..  Thank god, I never bought or payed to play that game (I was in the beta and was HUGELY disappointed from the get go).  So now its just another piece of SoE garbage.  I bet SoE at somepoint approaced Blizzard about merging or buyout or something, at least Blizzard had the nads to say NO.  This whole thing has to be the biggest case of the "I TOLD YOU SO"'s the MMO industry has EVER seen LOL.  Ok thats all I have to say, now that i've finally stopped laughing

This is a message to ALL those people who were screaming VSOH is getting bought off by SOE when Sigil moved away from microsoft: YOU WERE RIGHT, AND I WAS WRONG. Sure, some of those people were just SOE haters and all, but ultimately they were right. So, hats off to those who predicted this (for various reasons).

    RIP Vanguard/Sigil

It was fun in beta and first 1-2 months. I wish all the best and good luck to those who still remain loyal to VSOH. GG.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

    Bahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!Bahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahaha!!!!!!!!Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahaahahahahaah!!!!!!

Classic corporate takeover.................offer to "rescue" a company in trouble (Sigil), but fill the contract with obligations that the struggling company will NEVER be able to live up to.  These are the day-to-day tactics of SOE, and anyone who supports them is a corporate shill.

And to that jackass _kyle_ or whatever your name is.  Brad started the whole mmorpg revolution with EQ1, and all that hath grown out of the industry, including this website here, is fruit of HIS tree.

But hey.....you make a deal with the devil......be prepared to get burnt.

RIP Brad.....your career in this industry is OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOE pulled this exact same move with MxO. They acquired the game shortly after retail launch. Fired the development team and re-hired some of them to continue working on the game. Eventually the remaining developers were removed from MxO and the game was left to die with merely a lead moderator and two developers who can only fix bugs and typos.

    RIP Vanguard
