I think all that proves is that people in Asian countries are more willing to waste large quantities of time on games. A lot of their games are extemely time consuming and I've yet to hear of an American who played a game so long they died from it. It's also a matter of taste. Both countries are differnt cultures and like differnt things. The Asian market is bigger so obviously the games they play should have more subscribers. The western made games appeal to people in the west and are made to do so. That means we generally will like them better then Asian MMOs just like they will like the Asian made games better because it has more of their culture in it.
That's ironic, considering there has just been multiple topics discussing an addiction to WoW and MMO's aswell as an american kid crying because he cant continue playing. I don't think it has much to do with their culture being in the game, but rather the ability to just go off and grind by yourself to improve your character's strength, where as in western MMO's you're forced into groups and socializing more. I also think that the western market is more suited for PvE'rs then it is for PvP. Granted Eastern MMO's have alot of mob killing, but the actual game is designed and made around the PvP concept of the game.
Thats true though from what I've read about Asian MMOers is that they really take their games seriously. I believe they were the first to beat Onyxia in World of Warcraft and are many times the first to to things. They appear to take things to another level regarding amount of time played. World of Warcraft is meant to be a MMO for Casual people. Asian's don't make casual games generally and for the most part they don't seem to include a lot of quests. I agree all MMOs have players who are addicted weather it be western or eastern, but Asian seems to have the worst problems as as you can see there are more people into games in Asian.

Ok first off Asian people dont have time on their hands let me tell you the life of a avg Korean Teen from morning to night, wake to sleep
7am wake up, 8am school, I think 4 school ends, then extra activty(Music lesson, Krayata) most likly 6-8 English School, 8-11 homework and chores. 12 bed. Now add this into your mind.... they still have time to play
and to your comment about people dieing from games... thats nothing to be prude of boast..... it shows we lack mind power and the ability to stop... where Asians work 40 for part-time most often and are about 5 levels of schooling ahead of the western world
now im not defending Asian countries here... im American, I lack intelligence I eat my burgers and hotdogs and waste most of my life with sports and hunting....

Thats good, but why are there always stories about internet cafes and people staying there playing until they are almost dead in Asia? If people worked that much there is no way they would have time for these type of games. Lets look at Final Fantasy XI for instance. The game requires large chunks of time to get a group and play. Asian also seem to always be the first to the top level and first to beat the tuff monsters. Obviously there are some that have the time to play and do it a lot.

This is all true (except the last part). In my school, which is a private school, we have a Korean students that came from Korea. This happens because we are not so crudely racist as the USA. Sorry but it is truth. He is in the principals honour roll and is ridiculously smart. He laughs at our technology.

There have been around 4 accounts of Death related to video games (thats counting suicides and lack of food/sleep/feeding their young) in Asian countries... I believe America has 4 deaths from EQ and about 3 to WoW
"but Asian seems to have the worst problems as as you can see there are more people into games in Asian." There are more people into games there for one reason... American ecomey is falling and Western is on a sloop where as China is growing at 10% encomic growth and korea/Japan are at 5% I think America is 1.5% and London 3%. Now thats not the only reason... Gaming like you said is on another level there... ive been to China and Korea for gaming events and meeting friends from my old SC clan and SuN
They put the Game in Gaming,
The best SC player worldwide lives in South Korea I think Seoul and makes roughly 120k a year threw sponsorships. Its a way of life and they can control it.

Some of these logic just crack me up
That's like saying in a lunch room of 30 people vs. a room of 3 people
Because the 30 people eat more than the 3 people, they have an eating problem...
Edit: Don't stereotype asians... About school, hell yea some asian countries, geez, they have alot of school ( It's serious business too, cause if you're not smart enough, high schools and colleges won't accept you... In U.S. you can go up to community college anytime)... As far as intelligence though, well, the people who travel here are generally from rich families... In other words, its been proven rich families throughout the world are able to provide better education/tools(tutors, etc.) for their children...

(Ok I might sound a little stupid here but this is my opinion only)
I don't think it's a matter of playing longer but rather asians having more skill when it comes to gaming, this is what I believe and you can agree to disagree.
(Ohkay)
When it comes to the amount of time spent playing it really comes down to something simple that most people might not be aware of. The main reason for easterners choosing grind based games over questing games, such as WoW and EQ, is because they would rather just sit at a spot and grind for a few hours then waste time (in their opinion) reading silly quests. Both methods actually take around the same amount of time to complete but where you'll find the grind is longer is when the level cap is higher then most other games.
- Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.

I actually think competition as a whole brings out the worst in people.

That doesn't sound good to me. It may be smarter if all you care about is being the best in the game first, but if you actually care about being entertained then you enjoy having a reason to kill things. It's true Americans aren't as competative these days. Perhaps we just don't see the need to advance. A lot of us are content and do not see any need to compete. I actually think competition as a whole brings out the worst in people.
Yeh I agree that you need to enjoy the game, but most of them enjoy leveling up and having fun then, aswell as many western gamers (like myself).
- Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.

Dam TPS reporsts Theres a differnce between giving up and being content. I think it's great to learn new things if you really want to do it and want to use it to better mankind, but if you don't want to do it and are just doing it so you can say I'm the smartest or I'm the best then it's just selfishness. I hope one day we can all realize that competition isn't needed. What is needed is for us all to work together and support eachother when needed. There is no need for killing, violence, and competition with eachother.

In other words, its been proven rich families throughout the world are able to provide better education/tools(tutors, etc.) for their children...

and to your comment about people dieing from games... thats nothing to be prude of boast..... it shows we lack mind power and the ability to stop... where Asians work 40 for part-time most often and are about 5 levels of schooling ahead of the western world
now im not defending Asian countries here... im American, I lack intelligence I eat my burgers and hotdogs and waste most of my life with sports and hunting....
