Xanrn you are right Chaos is everywhere it corrupts races all in world in warhammer. In Old World, Araby and Cathai. In Age of Reckoning thou war host that is launching invasion into lands of Empire are mostly from norsca, traitors from empire and mayby some Kurgan tribes. I think that chaos character should be able to make look like chaotic multiple colors and such. We are talking about Empire thou. Reason Empire tolerates Dwarfs is that sigmar made deal with them in anciet times and no devout human of empire goes against wishes of sigmar. Dwarfs have also saved their asses multiple times and Empire adores drawen craftmanship. They dont like elves but tolerate them. Elves have teached magic for humans and helped them in wars. They are not same thing as Araby. Empire loathes it because Arabys invasion into Estilia and Titelia also because of crusades. Merchants from south and east wander into Empire rarely but you cant suggest seriously that they rise high ranks in State Army. Empire in Fantasy Battle is not xenophopic as in 40k but they are still quite bad. They are not your regular fantesy  humans that are all good. Empire is corrupt, xenophopic and overzealous. As I said before we are not trying to praise white supermacy we are trying to hold on warhammer lore that you are chancing because our world political correctness. Warhammer is piece of art, whole world you just cant go and change things radicaly like wiping empires feel and look away just because "you wanna play black guy". Lets make then pink Orcs and purple elfs ok?

Warhammer is Warhammer lets keep it seperated from our world

I understand where the OP is coming from.  As a AA Female, I too have found little representation when making my game avatars.   I take great pride in my characters and want them to be an extension of myself in some way.  Yes, its all a game, a hobby we all love and share, no doubt and for some it's no biggie, but for me on a personal and individual level, its important.  As a result I simply don't play games that don't allow me to (at the very least) make my character dark skinned.  Again, not shouting for social change or anything, I am not even advocating that any game MUST include this, but if I play it, it must have that kind of customization either lore-driven or just for diversity.  BTW here's one of my EVE alts:

    I agree.

But EvE is set in a time where all races have mixed and been mixing for a very long time, WAR is set in a European mythology/fantasy close to dark ages. When races didn't mix and tended to just fight and enslave each other.

That's fine, i for one want them to stay true to their lore as much as they desire and the fans wish.  Like I said I'm not clamoring for any changes (Im a lover not a fighter these days  ).  But I won't be buying it either.  That's just me, like I said it's a personal choice that I make when looking to try new games on the market.  No Fine Black peoples, me no buyee $$.  I think that's also why I moved away from alot of fantasy games as alot of their lore tend to be euro-based.  Futuristic games like EVE and the upcoming Tabula Rasa will have the very element that you described, mainly a universe that is diverse and multicultured.  Imma make a Strong Black Sister in Tabula and call her Cleopatra Jones, have her run around in hot-pink and shoot stuff with a big gun!!  Wheeeee!!!!

PS: Btw, thanks to those in the thread for keeping the discussion civil and relevant,  Theres no reason these topics can't be openly discussed without becoming a flamefest.  Kudos!

Thats cool but in WAR the fighting between Chaos and Empire is around Norsca i think so Chaos in WAR will mainly be Norse. It isn't Chaos undivided either it's a a warhost under a particular champion and deity. I thought the Kurgan were more based on steppes tribes not unlike the slavic based people that fight for the empire (i forget the name).

While the starting zones will include Norsca and Nordland, the higher tier zones will run up through Praag into the northern wastes along the easternmost edges of civilization - the primary path of Kurgan invasion.  Each chaos god has followers throughout the northern peoples, and when the new herald of Tzeentch calls for the assembly of a great warhost, plenty of Kurgan and Norsemen (both tribes and individuals) will answer the summons, and a few Hung tribes may even make the long ride to serve the changer of ways.

Actually if you study the info behind the history of eve you will see that this is not the case.

    Uuh delete rush...

This thread was about allowing Empire humans to be dark skinned. I keep with my statement before. In lore they are white so in game they should be white. Our worlds political correctness cant be pushed in to game. Yes they should be have choice to be tanned but not so far that they lose they reassemblance to what they are in story.

even though I do aggree with the stance that they game should stay as close to the lore as possible I don't see where including graphical options for many different facial structures and skin tones would ruin the artistic integerty of the game.  This is a world with semi sentient fungus, talking lizards, weapon building rats, and walking skeletons, differences in skin tone would be a minor concern for citizens of the empire.

Those things are not common things for normal citizen of Empire. Those things are evil and twisted for them. Remanding that they are different from them Sons and Daugthers of Sigmar. Humans of Empire have learned from expreince and from chruch that difference is bad. Anything different from normal can be chaos corruption. Since lore is not mentioning about ethnic differiences in Empire all of them being caucasians there is not argument in lore to have ethnic characters for Empire. I own 3 last Empire army books and have more than fair amount warhammer "literature" and if you have not done that it is hard to undrestand people of empire. You cant compare them to us in this time. Things like multiculturality or human rights are not heard in that world. Life is desperate for normal people of empire. They try to survive one more day in world where your own brother could become chaos mutant next day when he was just as normal today. Those peoples kill even their own babies if they have example like blue and green eye since that could be potential mutation. Warhammer world is unique in its dark glory plese try read it little before you start proposing changes.

As a fan of Warhammer for the last 22 years or so, and an official nerd, I have some input.

Chaos - The chaos wastes were created when Slann warp gates collapsed.  There was one at the north pole, and another at the south pole.  Once you get far enough into the wastes, time and space become meaningless.  You can end up in the Realm of Chaos (Warp) and end up stuck there forever with the daemons, coming out on the other pole, or even showing up in the Eye of Terror of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.  While not heavily detailed like the Old World in official lore, there are Chaos Warriors in the southern continents to be sure, not just the northern ones.  You could have entire world from the WH40K universe, of any skin color for that matter, getting lost and showing up.

Elves - While nothing is mentioned in the lore of High Elves, Ulthuan (Atlantis sorta) runs from around the equator to about the 45th latitude.  I'd assume the more southern High Elves developed darker skin colors to cope.  Dark Elves are just rebel High Elves, so more the same, and they live mainly in the northern New World now.  Wood Elves live all over the place, and are remnants of ancient High Elf colonies, and while they live seperate from humans, would have skin colors to match the Old World, South Lands, and New World.  So Elves could be any skin color, they just would look better and stink less than humans do.  Snotty little Elves.

Dwarfs - They live in and near the mountains.  So wherever mountains aren't they aren't looking like the local humans.

Orcs - Green, from light to dark.  The original Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay book I have in front of me says of Black Orcs, "As their name suggests, Black Orcs are invariably dark skinned; dark brown and grey are the commonest colours."

Humans - While the WAR game is limited to the Empire, the Empire could easily have trade with any lands and its peoples, from Nippon to the New World.

The Warhammer world mixes up real history.  While mainly stealing from the 1200 - 1600's, there are events twisted in from much earlier and later.  Remember, the age of discovery has started in Warhammer, with exploitation of Lustria (South America) for gold.  While commoners in the Old World will be pale, the Heros & Villains (players) could be from almost anywhere.

Last minute edit - The main reason, past geography, in the lore there arn't dark skinned Elves and humans, is because the game started as a miniature wargame from the UK.  The average player was teenage while males.  The only skin color miniature paint they made back 20 some years ago was "Bronzed Flesh".  Not so today.  Even back then, in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, you had entire Space Marine chapters, like the Salamanders and the Primarch Vulkan, who were African in appearance.

I see a lot of people using the "keep to the lore as much as they can"

I see keeping to the lore as something like making sure the orcs are on the same side as the chaos or making sure that there are no female orcs. Not something like ok you can't be a black empire or a black chaos. Is it really that much to ask just for me to have the ability to make my character look a little like me. It's so easy for the majority to be like 'meh its not that big a deal just let them keep to the lore' When it is not you on the other side. I actually enjoy playing the I think it was the fourth GTA, because the lead character was a black guy. I actually felt like I was playing the role of someone who was black that was in a gang. I was just a dark-skinning person with white hair put in a setting to where I seemed like I wasn't suppose to be. I feel like alot of mmo's just throw in the option of making a 'dark-skinned' character just to do it. I said 'dark-skinned' to be a joke, but it seemed like no one got it, because your not really a black person. That's like them giving the option of making the lead character on any of the Final Fantasy games have dark skin instead of the white skin. Like picture a dark-skinned Squall.. well Cloud cause most people know more about him..

...picture a dark-skinned cloud from the advent children movie. He looks nothing like a black person. More like he just had a really good tan.

Simply request for a game that is well in its production stage. That's all.

As for this game, quit playing the race card. I can't believe people are blowing the OP up into a racist thing. Where's a mod to close the threads on this site or are they all too busy with controllers in their hands..

I am gonna throw in my 2 cents and inject some facts about the forces of Chaos and other empires of man that are not based on old world Europe. This is all information I've gleaned from background books and other sources.

Within the forces of Chaos there are 4 main tribes of men that make up the bulk of their armies. There may be other smaller and minor ones but they are not as plentiful or as widely known.

    1. Kurgans - Tall, dark skinned ( They aren't described as "African" looking in terms of facial features just in skin tones only ), muscular men. They are the largest tribe that make up the forces of Chaos. They live in the extreme northern reaches of the Chaos wastelands and also extend their holdings in the eastern steppes.
    2. Norse - Your typical "Viking" like man. Tall and muscular and of fair skin. They make up the bulk of the followers of Khorne and live north near the edges of borders of the Empire and along coastlines and in the southern edges of the Chaos wastelands.
    3. Tungs - Eastern nomads who appear to be the based off the Huns ( Central Asian/Eurasian peoples ) from our history books. They live in the eastern plains/steppes of Chaos Wastelands.
    4. Hungs - They are another group of nomads who dwell in the far eastern steppes/plains that are part of the Chaos wastelands and just beyond the fringe borders of the Cathay ( Ancient Chinese styled empire ) Empire. It is said they look like the men of Cathay but shorter and bulkier and of a slightly darker skin tone. They are styled very much after the Mongols of our real world history.

Then you have those who have defected from The Empire itself and have joined the ranks of Chaos. Many men and women (including some well known heroes of The Empire) have befallen to the taint of Chaos and joined its ranks. There are also those people that still dwell in the safety of the Empire but are secret worshipers of Chaos.

Once discovered though they either flee or die at the hands of Witch Hunters. Those that flee head up north and either die (succumbing to the natural elements or killed off because they are too weak to join a tribe or warband) or are inducted into the many tribes/warbands of the North.

There are many warbands made up of ex-Empire folk and/or various Chaos tribesmen. These warbands typically dwell at the edges of the northern borders of the Empire. They come down and raid the lands of the Empire. Some use the coastlines and raid from ships. Yet others also head deep into the Chaos wastelands to meet some darker destiny.

You also have Chaos Dwarfs who are said to be darker then regular dwarfs but are style after the Persian culture.

Listed below are other human cultures that are not based on old world Europe in the Warhammer world or part of the forces of Chaos. They have been talked about in offical background books and other works of information based around the Warhammer fantasy world.

Cathay – This region/nation styled after ancient China. They have traders and diplomats in the Empire.

Nippon – This region/nation is style after ancient Japan. They also have a few traders and diplomats in the Empire.

Araby – This region is styled after Arabia. It is compose of many kingdoms. The Empire once launched a great crusade into the lands of Araby. There are a few traders and diplomats from Araby in The Empire.

Numas – These people decedents of the Nehekhara Empire which is styled after ancient Egypt/Babylon. Their empire is a ally/servant to the Tomb Kings.

P.S. The Empire trades with all these empires directly or indirectly and there are many mercenaries bands of men from all cultures who travel the trade routes of the Warhammer world that connect all these empires of man. These "Dogs of War" offer to serve anyone who can pay their mercenary fee. Some of these "Dogs of War" can include or be made up of non-human races such as Goblins, Orges, Orks etc...

    ***The Gorrum Empire????***

I don't know if this is a legit Warhammer empire or not but I read that it is styled after ancient India.
