Ok not really, but that is about as credible as your post. The only credible chart I can find is shows the game had about 300K at launch, 200k last fall and is down to around 170 K last spring. Probably around 150K now. My little experiment his weekend showed that Antonia Bayle has 3 times the population of any other server so if I were SOE I would merge down to 6 or 8 servers so that new people would have a better experience and be more inclined to play past the first month. As it is I doubt I would ever play for long no matter what if I were to start on a server other than AB. Of course itr does not realllly matter to me, I am going back to that Turbine game now that I have seen for myself what the lowbie populations are like on a couple of servers and SOE can do whatever they want. No hair off my ass or money from my pocket any way it goes.
The only thing you did was confirming that AB has more population then a server that has lower population then AB, duh...
mmogchart... yep they are trustworthy. Wonder why they changed the LOTR sub same time as the alleged 172k sales popped up.
all I did was confirm that the lowbie population sucks as far as getting groups except on Antonia Bayle and its MMOG Data mmogdata.voig.com/ not MMORPG charts which was Sir Bruces old charts (www.mmogchart.com/ ) Also how are pirates related to LoTRO, more like a PoBS theme if yuopu ask me. Also I really I don't care one way or the other EQII is history for me, they can merge servers not merge servers or spin in circles. I just think merging would actually help their subscription retention by giving new lowbies a better experiance.
Uhh, LOTR is not even mention at mmogchart so obviously I was refering to the one that took over after mmochart. I just didn't care to check wich one was wich. You did understand that though you just wanted mark words.
That one really got me puzzled?
Anyway don't try to take it farther then that you checked the obvious that a lower populated server has lower population than a higher populated one. Because you really didnt prove anything else.
OrphesI am not saying it is a bad game just that the game is losing population , face the facts. All the fanbois posts in the world will not cure that. neither will SOE sticking it's head in the sand and not merging servers. Shit happens ok. Best thing SOE can do is merge down the servers to ensure that people can easily find people to group with. The players will be happier and the game overall will do better in the long run, don't take it so personal that trhe game is past it's prime.
There will always be a certain core group of players there and swearing it's the best game in the world when the last server is turned off. EQ and UO are good examples of this. I think even M59 still has a server going for that matter..
I'm on Lucan with several characters and to be quite honest, I have no trouble finding a group. When I am on, there are almost always people on the lowbie channels calling for a group. Weekends are even better, since I suspect the player base of this game has more than its share of the adult-I-work-during-the-week-crowd.
If you are a healer, it is even easier, especially if you want to start a group.
As always in any MMO, a good guild is the key to most always having a group when you want one.
And if anyone wants to get into the game, I'd certainly give thought to the new expansion in October. The game will again be more readily available at retail and a lot of the veterans will be starting new characters.
It pays to remember that no game is perfect and people will always find something to complain about. However, I agree with most here that EQ2 is perhaps the best PVE MMO on the market at the moment.
Like I said no big deal to me one way or the other. I only looked at Blackburrow and Antonia Bayle for a few levels each. Nothing scientific, and only two servers. I would reccomend that the fans direct new players to AB whenever they ask for a reccomendation though. I think they will have a better chance of retention past the trial or first 30 on the more populated server. Only a fanbois would argue that the game is gaining population however, that is just common sense and anyone who has really played the game knows better. I think EQII is the second best PvE game on the market at least for me.
I couldve swore WoW was the most hated. I know it's the most popular but I definitely think it's also the most hated. I don't see too many posts bashing EQ2, but always see someone talking shit about WoW.
i think all those ppl who say that some games suck are bored of them. i mean if someone played a game too long, he is getting bored and he quit the game and comes here to flame on it., but he forget that he played that game much time and it was fun for him... like i think there are many WoW players that quit WoW after 1(or even more) year of playng it and say that it sucks... and they forget that they had fun in game before get bored...
PS: sorry for my bad spelling, i hope u have understood what i had to say.

You're looking at this genre from the perspective of a gamer. That's not a good or bad thing of course But it does mean you compare what happens here with what gamers do elsewhere, and as we've discussed in the past here, I'm not sure a dedicated MMORPGer is classifiable as a "gamer". There are I'm sure a good chunk of GW players who are gamers. But SL players? EQ1 players? UO players? Even WoW players aren't likely jumping from 20 hours a week raids/PvP into Uno matches on XBLA.
Someday I'd like to see a psychographic map of MMOG players in the various spheres that represent the various sub-sections of this platform, with an overlay that shows similar maps from other genres. Where's the adjacencies?
I paid for what essentually was a lifeless beta. The bugs initually allowed some people to level so incredably fast it was ludicrous. Among many other initual issues, Coin cheats/expansion pack nerfs.. The game always felt like a chopped up book of this and that. The thing I hated the most about EQ2 was the lack of freedom to climb up walls and mountains that you obviously could walk up.. this drove me ape. I felt confined to mazes zone after zone.. got real real old.
Enforced grouping isn't really fun. Nerfbats from hell. PVP oh ya lol PVP lets not even go there.
I was in EQ2 from release to DOF which I quit .. then came back 6 months later only to quit again for fay release. I dont think I should have to buy an expansion to play as I was previously . This game has had * vanguard* type of bs done with patching and updates. I never felt the nerfbat so hard as I did in EQ2.. Disabling your characters for weeks at a time waiting for fixes. Got old fast.
This game and its staff has pretty much made me vow to never buy another SOE product again. The management upstairs,The ghosttowns of zones. The inability to follow thru on single player aspects.. Not everyone wants to group all the time.
So ya I do actually hate EQ2. I never had frustration like I did there. Not even when I was trying to get into my wifes pants 15 years ago.
--If its labeled SOE in anyway shape or form I won't buy it. End of story.

Actually you didn't confirm shit. SOE announced at the 2007 Las Vegas Fanfaire that EQ II had a little under 1 million active U.S. subscribers, the population has been steadily growing since the Desert of Flames was released.
Actually SOE could announce that the grass is green and the sky is blue and I would have to go outside to check it out . Log on to any server other than Antonia Bayle and check out the newbie population, it is fucking almost nil.
In case you haven't noticed SOE has a history of blowing smoke up it's customers asses. EQII has reached the state EQ1 was in 3 years ago, people are moving on to the newer games. EQII will always have a core fan base of 100K or so but it will continue on a slow downward slope.

yeah EQII is a good game, no doubt about it . I played from beta thru last October. But anyone with a lick of common sense knows it sure as hell does not have a million or for that matter even 200K active players.

Jackdog, like usual you speak the truth. SOE is in midst of a last ditch marketing campaign to save EQ2. It appears their idea is to convince people that Eq2 is growing and more people are playing. They have given away over 200k free copies of eq2 plus the expansions and free play time to former Vanguard players. Are they doing the same thing with SWG players. With such a push I can imagine the low level areas are suddenly populated and they might convince people that EQ2 is growing. I put my faith in MMOCchart which said 173k actibe subs in June and 49k for SWG. MMOchart has been accurate in the past and has a lot more credibiliy than any numbers SOE or a poster here tries to get us to believe. A better question would be how many servers did EQ2 have in June of this year and then compare that number to MMO charts numbers. Have they added servers since they eliminated (by merging) 2/3 of their servers last year.

you know the bad part though Zippy is that unless a newbie starts on AB, they won't play for very long. All of these games (MMORPGs) are boring as hell unless you group or at least socialize in guild chat. If SOE would just swallow thier pride and do a server merge and get rid of that trial of the isle bullshit and have a real trial they might actaully be able to keep a lot of the newbies. It is a good game but they manage it like idiots. I swear Scott Adam's Dilbert comic strip must be modeled after SOE and Smed has to be the pointy haired boss.
Edited: Removed. I could care less what you think.
Jackdog: Sometimes you have decent posts with well thought out opinions, but you don't know jack about this. I play the game, and we're moving servers, and praying for more servers because it's too full. "managed by idiots" after everything they've done with this game and gameplay is the stupidest thing anyone, especially you, has ever said.

I play on VOX. A light server. I play on Vox because guildies wanted to play on a light server. Here's the stuff i camed up with (do whatever you want with em... ). So i guess you don't know that their is 2 trials. Play the Fae (the non island bullshit) and the island one.
/who in Commonlands usually have easly 20 players (not counting other PVP faction, they aren`t showing in /who).... I would imagine a good 40 counting exiles and Q. Most of em are low lvls... lvl 14 is the hotspot to start pvping. As for grouping, well i play with my guildies so i have no trouble finding groups. In EQ2, you can also solo you way to the top lvl rather quickly....
Anyway Jackdog... THese are metrics i`m providing to you... do what you want with em. I think the game is very healthy and merging (again) would be a mistake.
I tried the Play the FAE last weekend Matraque. The only bad thing about that is it limits you to one zone, but it is still a improvement on the trial of the isle crap. I made a new account and rolled 3 FAEs one on Antonia Bayle, one Blackburrow and one on Crushbone. Logged on several times with each, that is why I said anyone starting new should make their toons on AB. On the other 2 the newbie pop was dismal at best, I could rarely find anyone level 1 - 10. AB on the other hand had a very good newbie population at all times with a good 25 - 30 lvl 1 - 10s at almost any time.
That why I say SOE would be better off merging a few servers instead of shoveling horse shit like the poster above said they did at the fan faire. Sorry boys but this game does not have a million active players. I figure 150 to 175k max and a good 20% or more of those are on AB. Merge down to 5 to 10 servers and new players will be more likly to stay and then build the server list up if nescessary.
I play EQ2 on the euro servers. They always have a good population.
I am talking newbie popualtion, not lvl 50+ toons. If I am just starting I could care less if there are 2000 lvl 50+ running around I want someone to group with at lvl 10. Although I am sure a fanboy will post that he was just on Crushbione and there were 50 lvl 7's running around. I could really care less, I have retired all my old EQII toons anyway. SOE can run the game in the ground if they want, no hair off my behind.

You're basing your opinion of the EQ population off of the number of people UNDER level 10 that can be played through in 3 hours tops? Seriously, just stop. I can't believe you don't read your own post and not be ashamed. I'm done, you cannot be taken seriously any more.
Maybe they should move all those newbs to their own server before they destroy the population on AB, because in a couple months AB will be absolutely unbearable to play on. Thank goodness I don't play on that server.
"Granted thinking for yourself could be considered a timesink of shorter or longer duration depending on how smart..or how dumb you are."
first of all I don't hate the game I played it for several years so there goes that theory. secondly the mentoring system only works if people have a chance to meet people. Not much a chance of meeting when the levels are so far apart now is there? Third when I was playing the game last weekend I looked at level 1 - 10 level 10 - 20 level 1 - 50 etc etc, and AB is the only server you could call well populated. SO go ahead with the bullshit claims that the servers are packed, like Zippy said I guess that is SOEs last ditch effort to save the game.
As I stated earlier,I could give a shit if SOE kills their own game because a couple of egos might get bruised. Same shit ( ego over common sense) happeened with SWG and Vanguard , why the hell should I expect fro them to learn now. If they did the right thing they would merge servers down and then they might have a chance of turning the downward population trend around, as it is they will just continue to lose subscribers faster thean they can be replaced. So go ahead fanboys and shills continue with the personal attacks on me, it still will not change a thing as far as the game goes.

Yeh.. my wife pants were fun.. You know fun that goes with annoyed hormones..
EQ2 was just like paying for the hooker that made you put out and took your money. I dont care to be bitched by any company.

Trade in material assumptions for spiritual facts and make permanent progress.

yeah EQII is a good game, no doubt about it .

Any high level player can mentor low levels. I do it a lot.
