No one really knows how each game is going to turn out til they are playing that game beta. WAR beta is alrdy out and they alrdy have ppl playing there game. But no one will talk about how the game is because they want to keep there beta spot. But on the other side has AOC even started there beta play yet.

I didnt really say much in this thread, especially in the original post, I just invited opinions, offered a couple of my own, and got flamed for it, but still the PM's came flocking in, before and after. I thought I had to post this:

You want to tell me a dozen similar ones like this are ok? Is that the true mentality of all warhammer fans? I dont think it is, but you know threats from the 12 yr olds like this and all over these forums that I see every day do eventually have some influence in your posting style. So first of all I'd like to apologise if any of my posts come across as harsh or unfair. Second I actually had an interest in warhammer but it fast evapourates with daily readings such as the above. In all honesty, I can't even remember mentioning warhammer in any of my posts for a long time, the only times I started too were after the constant barrage of comments like this. If people can't deal with opinions I offer then those people have to realise they have to better that some form of harressment as such.
Wow, that loser needs to be banned. Thats totally harrassment.

LET ME BREAK DOWN WHAT AVERY WAS SAYING IN THE OP as the FOOL i just quoted didn't seem to get it.
AO won all the awards, but didn't exactly turn out to be the BEST. Awards don't mean much, but we welcome them anyway.
Does anyone else understand he's saying that the awards are just that, an award. It doesn't mean the game will suceed. I don't see why the War BOI's are up in arms about htis. They should be QUOTING this off, and say, SEE EVEN A great AoC fan, says that Awards don't mean JACK!
I don't think it matters. I hope both games are good. But they are both targetting different audiences. AoC is appealing to the Older Gamer audience with its emphasis on blood, gore, nudity and the M rating Considering Conan's I.P. is 75 years oldthrowing out vast appeal, while War is attempting to lure the Younger Nerdy Table Top Crowd, who like to play with little figures and paint them all nicely, and WoW Youngsters with the blatant Graphic Art Appeal of the previously mentioned game but with Similar Monsters Updated, and hoping that the audience that played DAOC will play a game 80%PvP 20% PvE.
There I helped you out a little - Just MY opinion btw. But if you want to throw around target audiences in a thread not even about it thats ok.
Tell me then, how the hell did it come to that? The other guy wasn't offending anyone, and this guy jumped all over him, and then later on. Forget reading comprehension, you should just learn to READ, plain and simple.
That isn't the OP.
That's just an arguement. A War Boi spins the war way, and Avery turned it AoC way. This is nothing new.

i'm sorry but your the one that comes across like an idiot defending and bigging up a game you haven't played..your like a child saying. my toy is better than yours...what does it matter which games is better..you win in the end either way.
Back in 2001, DAoC was shown at E3 in a even more playable state than WAR is being shown at Leipzig. At the end of the show, most of the awards were won by Anarchy Online and Star Wars: Galaxies, we were pretty much not skunked. Years later, after all three games launched, we were more successful than either of those games based on any criteria I can think of (subscriber base, metacritic, etc..). Judge for yourself the validity/importance of winning awards at Trade Shows.
We are, of course, proud when we win awards but when we don't, I don't lose any sleep over it. In the end, it is the players who will determine if we made a great game and I am, as always, perfectly content to leave such judgments in the hands of those who matter most, the gamers.
Just realized I had a typo and the edit time has expired so I'll correct it here:

In terms of comparisons, well, AO launched with huge technical problems (well-documented on the Web), its NA/European box sales were a fraction of ours (NPD/PC Charts), and our Metacritic for DAoC is still the second highest of all MMORPGS (88%) to date and it is second only to WoW, we almost swept all the end-of-the year MMO awards, and our top monthly subscription rate was a heck of a lot higher (MMORPG charts). That pretty much sums up all the main categories that I can think of. However, I think that the Fucom guys did a nice job of recovering from and making AO a much, much better game that it was but at launch it was not anywhere near as good of a game as DAoC. I don't do this to dump on the Funcom guys at all but, as I've always said, that its not how you look before you launch that counts, it is how you look 30 days after launch that really matters.

What ever you guys/ girls think, in a thread all about asking AoC was nominated (Subsequently WON) and WAR wasn't, was it really necessary to bring up AO and DAoC? Also brings to light the fact that even a WAR developer was impressed by the ability of Funcom to turn a not so hot launch around - ALL those years ago... Sour Grapes? Unfortunately, equating it to a past success doesn't work - WAR isn't DAoC, and AoC isn't AO. It's easy to placate your critics and fans with comparisons like that, but they're simply not realistic.
i don't understand how you can be a fan of either game, if you haven't played either game..idiots like you make forums an annoying read.
Your assuming a lot. You don't think Avery is Beta Testing BOTH? I think he might be.
i doubt he is beta testing both, he probably is beta testing aoc though..anyway they are both in beta and not finished games..so its a dumb assumption anyway.

WOW Look at that. I never even stated ONE thing was better then another, and You've turned that into an analogy of me, with a toy. How special. I never said ANYTHING about my ANYTHING being BETTER then ANYONES ANYTHING ELSE! Your just.. man.. just plan dumb. I posted showing that AVERY wasn't BRAGGING about awards, but rather dismissing awards as not a very good indicator of things to come.

I've played all games mentioned in that post bar one, I actually prefered DAoC to AO! I actually have mentioned this before in the past, it just suited my playstyle more. I am more of a fan of AoC in all because I am a huge fan of the lore. So naturally it was easy and exciting to me to follow the game from early development. Awards don't mean squat, if it looks like I said something different it was sarcasm. I can't controll how people respond to a post inviting opinions on the matter, I questioned if it was "sour grapes" thats all. As for the nasty pm's I got them long before posting this. I have the opinion of the quotes of the war dev I put up by saying its not realistic to compare past games as the new ones coming out by both companies are the old ones. - whole point!

This entire thread got whipped into a FRENZY by people thinking AmazingAvery was bragging about the awards AoC won.
Sadly it was QUITE the contrary.

Warhammer Online booth was always busy at Leipzig
Funcom booth was directly opposite at the Goa Team. Mythic booth was bigger and busier than theirs. Plus that Warhammer Online game worked where Age of Conan had some problem.
edit: minor error
Someone want to tell me that this is or isnt SPIN? for all those that say I spin the truth.... I can't even post an opinion...

Thats not spin, thats what the npc's will be doing when you get your sex buff before raid and the screen goes blank.
The Goa team person could have taken the high road and not made those comments true or not. I dont think its was needed.
She could have said we worked our ass off and our line was full all day we even had peopel line up again and again.

That is spin Avery and I was less then impressed about GOA posting those captions. If you read my responses carefully I think the spinning should stop by BOTH SIDES. The fact that GOA did it does not justify your own actions. Notice that it was not the actual developers though... Several Mythic guys have said they are looking forward to playing AoC, that it looks like fun. I am sure there are devs at funcom that feel the same way about WAR. The games are uniquely different and stand well on their own merits... Spinning by any group just eats away their credibility though.

I would say that an those pictures come across as an attempt to show whats is NOT really happening. I bit like the quote I made on post number 21 in this thread, part one.
SWG with "one million" subs? You are completely delusional... Never went over 300-350k. http://mmogchart.com/
Yes SWG never had "one million" subs. It sold over 1.5 million boxes.. but that's not a snapshot of a subscription number.. its sales over time.
and please stop quoting mmogchart.com... their numbers are as accurate as a random number generator.. since no company releases that information to any 3rd party source.
Well lets definie that as Funcom, Mythic/EA and SOE do not.. so those numbers are at best... guesses.
Sales figures do get released however, so one could try to extrapolate data.
Oh and I didn't quote your reply to me.. but you are in fact correct.. Funcom is not in the same league as mythic.. Since Funcom didn't have to sell out to a larger Corporate to survive (yet).
Or I suppose you think Mythic was sold to EA because it was doing so well...
But hey that's another story I guess.
*note*
Yes sorry.. but the flames died down to much.. but the above is as accurate as anything Mr Mark claimed to be true.

Yes because no company gets sold that is doing well. /sarcasm
If you owned a moderate business and a guy in a nice suit walked into your store and offered you an excellent price to purchase your it... I am sure you would just ignore him. Owning a business comprises risk, making bank from selling your business does not. Funcom lost millions in value when it announced AoC was being delayed from its stock dropping. I can see where being a major investor in that company is much better off then the one who sold mythic and now is sipping rum in the Bahamas getting laid every night. Yeah give me major stress and a bear market... sounds like the good life to me!

Well just for the record AoC was shown at the Microsoft stand, Eidos's and also behind closed doors in a function room, the scale can't be shown from just one photo. And yes AoC devs are interested in playing War because it looks fun.

Seriously, Rather then picking and choosing pictures, why not read what other people said about the show? They pretty much ALL agree about what Title got the most Love.
I do find it rather amusing that people called that Warhammer display packed. There are 5 GOA in the front and center of that post, and I can see 4 people playing, 2 of them appear to be about 14 years old. They wouldn't have been allowed into the AoC area, because its rated M for Adult Subject matter. If you have a DEMO going at a show and somebody is not at every single monitor, then your title is just patetic. Theres 300x more people then Demo's going, so EVERY single one of them should be occupied by a player. This doesn't make it a good demo.. It just makes it.. A DEMO at a show.. If you've been to one you know what I mean.

Yep I see, I've been registerd there a while and for good reason lately! (nothing to with this topic)
I trust you got my pm too, anyway, personally I will try to move on from some posts looking like spin, but as per my pm you can see what goes on here alot on this side of the boards. Post history of user will show you.
I don't think it matters. I hope both games are good. But they are both targetting different audiences. AoC is appealing to the kiddie audience with its emphasis on blood, gore, nudity and the M rating while War is attempting to lure the older more mature audience that played DAOC. That being said the War dev makes a good point about flash over substance and the importance of polish at release. I played AO and DAOC at release and in beta and I thought both games were fantastic games. Unfortuntaley for AO had it awful technical problems that made the game virtually unplayable for a very long time. But there are important things we can learn from AO's release. Funcom stuck with AO and made it a fantastic game nad Funcom must understand the importance of a stable polished release. AO could have been a huge hit with betterr stability. I would hope that Funcom will make sure this time they wait until they are sure the game is ready before even considering releasing the game.
ummm...how is AoC appealing to the kiddie audience and WAR, the game that every little fanboy in America plays as they are picking up their Magic cards and asking mommy if they can have money for a Mountain Dew while they sit sniffing the paint from their Warhammer models directed at "older more mature audience?" Also, as much as people want to claim it, there really aren't that many "mature" people playing MMO's. I played DAoC for years (no matter how dry the game was) and people on there were just as immature as they were on WoW (even on the Horde side).
Instead of taking stab at each others games, we should all learn to respect each other's games. Calling someone elses game "childish" or "crap" or whatever other disparaging remarks you will make is not going to endear your game to them. People know what they like and what they don't like. If you want to pull people over to your game, give them a healthy comparison of a similar game. Damn it, people! We need to stick together, not tear each other apart.
He semi quoted from our favourite worried War Dev:
Just so we are very, very clear on the T vs. M stuff.
1) We didn't go with the Teen rating to make as much money as we possibly could. If I had wanted to do that, I would have designed a game with a M rating, gratuitous blood and gore everywhere, chock full of micro-transactions that would have appealed to an older gamer with more money than time. I'd sell lots and lots of "special items" that would be needed to succeed, ratchet up the leveling grind (to encourage more RMTs) and I would have struck a deal with the gold sellers as well. Now, if the IP behind the game was great, boy, would that make lots of money. Now, it would go against what I stand for so ->
2) The reason for going for the Teen rating is two-fold, to reach the widest possible audience and to make a game that a family, bf/gf, etc. could play together. I've always been a real big believer in the social aspects of online gaming and the MMOs take this to a whole new level. The T rating (and we are a pretty soft T) allows families/friends to play together with the worst worry, some of the nonsense that gets spewed out in global chat. The other reason to make a Teen game is that Teen-rated games have fewer regulatory/legal hurdles worldwide than M games. If AoC really does come out as an M game, it will face some interesting problems as I told the Funcom guys last year when we were chatting about stuff.
While some may think that the T game will make more money than the M game, based on what I know about RMTs, I wouldn't count on it. Fortunately, we're making the exact game we wanted with the exact rating we wanted right from the beginning. Normally, this is the point where I say "I'm sorry that WAR will disappoint some fans etc." but in this rare case, I'm not sorry at all. Maybe one day I'll do an M game but not this time.

Seems like he likes to band about Real Money Trading with the AoC name too. Before anyone says anything to the contrary its obvious what he is saying and refering to in point 1. That dev tracker is really bring another side out on the war forums. Of course because he is so big headed he thought he would tell the Funcom guys all about making an M rating when he never has.
Lame and Low
@ Ky its not really obscure, 200k people attending. Plus other side of the Pond had the biggest Lan party with 10k people.
This is what he is saying to me
If I was a evil DEV and wanted to make a bunch a money I could do it, by doing it this way. IE
"1) We didn't go with the Teen rating to make as much money as we possibly could. There are games that want to go this route AO content, cash shops rmts online casino... Like he said they might be making a whole lot of money. http://news.mmosite.com/data/p/u/2006/03/27/697602862.html NTWS link. theres a whole listing of them Hell second life to a degree fits
And Im sorry AVE but you come off as big headed by thinking he likes the IGE because he came up with a brainstorm on how he would do it big. Hell by your big head thinking because me and my mates talk about robbin banks and heading to mexico. We like robbin banks and plan on doing for real. And if we like talking about robbin banks while later mentioning that "hey btw AOC got a m-rating and dont forget that DEV said they have Boobies to". We then...."Seems like he likes to band about Robbin banks, mexico and boobs with the AoC name too.
He seperates the two trains of thought so think big heads wont get his mentioning of RMT and then the LATER FUNCOM banded together. You made that leap. You also take a leap that Funcom and Mythic are not chummy. For all we know Those devs(Funcom/Mythic) could have been in a hot tub with stippers while he made this comment "The other reason to make a Teen game is that Teen-rated games have fewer regulatory/legal hurdles worldwide than M games. If AoC really does come out as an M game, it will face some interesting problems as I told the Funcom guys last year when we were chatting( in a hottub drinking crystal) about stuff."
1. That dev tracker is really bring another side out on the war forums. YES it does he or someone post there every other day so people who are worried they wont be heard because of no main forums.
Heres where I get a big Head BEN post like the first and the 21st you made is why I hate main forums anytime a dev says something it get blowed, chopped and buffed all under a black screen.
I know what your gonna say " IM so done with this thread" its cool AVE we all have out moments when the being human and all sneaks out

No one really knows how each game is going to turn out til they are playing that game beta. WAR beta is alrdy out and they alrdy have ppl playing there game. But no one will talk about how the game is because they want to keep there beta spot. But on the other side has AOC even started there beta play yet.

Funny I see AOC trolls all over the war boards as well. Don't just point out one game when it happens on forums for ALL GAMES.
Wow, that loser needs to be banned. Thats totally harrassment.
WoW someone really need to beat that kid ass with a belt. Because he have no respect for people.

Well, with a name of legolass11 lol, pm mods here and see if they can ban him. Pm's like that are uncalled for especially on an mmo forum.
This is nothing new.
i'm sorry but your the one that comes across like an idiot defending and bigging up a game you haven't played..your like a child saying. my toy is better than yours...what does it matter which games is better..you win in the end either way.
i don't understand how you can be a fan of either game, if you haven't played either game..idiots like you make forums an annoying read.
Your assuming a lot. You don't think Avery is Beta Testing BOTH? I think he might be.
i doubt he is beta testing both, he probably is beta testing aoc though..anyway they are both in beta and not finished games..so its a dumb assumption anyway.
i'm sorry but your the one that comes across like an idiot defending and bigging up a game you haven't played..your like a child saying. my toy is better than yours...what does it matter which games is better..you win in the end either way.
I posted showing that AVERY wasn't BRAGGING about awards, but rather dismissing awards as not a very good indicator of things to come.
i don't understand how you can be a fan of either game, if you haven't played either game..idiots like you make forums an annoying read.

EDITED GOA isn't Mythic, my bad.
Now there were 3 KIDS there playing.. LoL

Trust me I know... I followed both games at Leipzig. If you wander over to the WAR forums I am giving my fellow WAR boys an ear full about this very topic.

I trust you got my pm too, anyway, personally I will try to move on from some posts looking like spin, but as per my pm you can see what goes on here alot on this side of the boards. Post history of user will show you.
Never got a PM Avery... was it this board or one of the WAR fan sites?

Instead of taking stab at each others games, we should all learn to respect each other's games. Calling someone elses game "childish" or "crap" or whatever other disparaging remarks you will make is not going to endear your game to them. People know what they like and what they don't like. If you want to pull people over to your game, give them a healthy comparison of a similar game. Damn it, people! We need to stick together, not tear each other apart.
He semi quoted from our favourite worried War Dev:
http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?p=324382&highlight=funcom#post324382
Folks,
Just so we are very, very clear on the T vs.
