The funeral of AC

I really don't see AC ever being shut down completely.  Games like Gemstone and Dragon Realms have been around for 10+ years and stay alive off a subscriber base of around 1000 simultaneous players at peak times.  The costs for AC may require it to sustain a higher player base, but at long as their not *losing* money, I can't see Turbine killing off their first born (espescially now that they wholly own it).

For the current number of accounts for AC2, check out the AC2 section/forums here at MMORPG.com... you will see that current, ingame, AC2 players, have posted the dismally low population numbers that AC2 has:

    *EDIT*

I forgot to post where I get my info about AC's population. Go to this link, then click on the link "TomJScott". It is part of Sir Bruce's page from his site which details the populations for every major MMORPG.

    http://www.geocities.com/xplooors/

Here is his latest chart which also has HZ (Horizions) on it:

    http://pw1.netcom.com/~sirbruce/Subscriptions.html

If you scroll down near the bottom, he goes into detail on how he gets info on each MMORPG, and how accurate the numbers for each one is. Here is what he had to say about AC:

    Asheron¡¯s Call  (Confidence Rating: B)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

AC has been one of the most difficult games to get good subscription numbers for.  Unfortunately, Turbine and/or Microsoft seem reluctant to give out their figures, perhaps because they were not the big success like UO, EQ, and DAoC.  Still, I¡¯ve managed to get a few data points when I consider reliable, and removed a few that I have since determined to be erroneous.  AC saw a substantial bump in subscriptions with the release of their first expansion pack, AC: Dark Majesty, but since then the numbers have dropped back down to about 80,000.  http://www.microsoft.com/games/zone/asheronscall

I agree that AC2 was crap when it was released, but recent additions have made it look very good (Crafting 2.0 and the removal of Buff Bots by changing buffs to 'aura' spells).  AC1 may as well be called the 'Buff Bot Junkie Game', everyones gotta have their fix.  This has made the game way to easy and killed the enjoyment for me and many others.

The most recent population numbers given by current AC2 players is July 8th. AC2 at release had roughly 50,000 players. After over 1 1/2years AC2 has at peak time roughly 2,000 players total. NONE of AC2's server breaks 1,000 players at peak time. Add players in the 3 major time zones of the world who are not playing = roughly 6,000 total accounts in AC2. Imagine how many players in AC2 during non-peak times? image

Turbine is licensed to make 2 upcoming MMORPGs that should become some of the most highly anticipated games of all time, considering what they're based on (Middle-Earth Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online).  I think they're headed in the right direction and don't see them drowning any time soon.

I agree with you the name and license for Tolkien, and D&D, have a market. The thing everyone seems to be overlooking is that EverQuest, AND Everquest 2, are BOTH unofficially MEO, and D&D Online, Tolkien Online, etc.... What other game has Hobbits and Halflings?

BTW, D&D is the SAME as Tolkien. It was Tolkien that directly spawned D&D in the early 1970's. After a huge lawsuite by the Tolkien estate vs the makers of D&D, D&D had to change the names of places, and monsters.

Thus for Turbine to even think about making 2 MMORPGs - MEO and DDO - it will end up compeating vs each other, according to what the majority of gamers, as well as myself, see. DDO and MEO will also compeate directly vs EQ, and EQ2. (EQ will live on because of lots of players like you who will not give up their characters they spent years, and years, building.) Do I wish Turbine luck? Yes. Do I see Turbine succeeding with DDO and with MEO? No. I think it is a horrible decision by upper management. Turbine should re-invest their millions into AC the way EQ is doing, UO is doing.

MEO and D&DO arent the same game. Just because their base story/lore are the same doesnt mean the games will be. The gameplay will be what is different. D&D has evolved so much since the 70s its harder and harder to find the similarities with Tolkien. Hell, almost  every fantasy game borrows something from Tolkien. Its hard not to when he coveres almost everything.

But I agree with the assessment of AC1. Bots, Decal, Macroing and the Turbine attitude of doing little to nothing to stop it is what is killing AC. Their recent patches are making up for it though. Im having a ton of fun questing and actually finding the quest information out instead of just reading a full walkthough. Just today I took some coordinates I found from recently revamped dungeons and figured out a new quest noone has posted a walkthrough to.

What I think they should do, is possibly another AC. Put in alot of the things theyve already taken from the 3rd party system, like better fellowships, spell timers, map coords etc. Add more and make it so that things like 3rd party utilities, maps and such are useless. Also, KILL the game for macroers. Ban them, introduce content against them, whatever they gotta do. Even buff bots. The only bots I support fully are tradebots. I hated all the shouting in Subway just to sell something. You can actually shop now, and actually FIND what you need, compare prices and not have to settle for what 1 person asks for something. It makes getting supplies alot easier.

No matter what I play for a filler, I always come back to Asherons Call. Its by far the longest lasting favorite MMORPG of most people. It has more "die-hard" players than any game I have seen, people who have played for 5+ years and have no intention of quitting or slowing down their play. That tells you a game is great.

I have played AC2, Lineage II, Horizons, Star Wars Galaxies, Earth and Beyond and a few others, and AC1 has a more continious play factor than any of them. AC1's combat is almost flawless, the graphics are still decent(They have been slowly making them better and better looking). Although it lacks the polygons and engines that the newer games have, it makes up for it in the flexibility of your characters attributes/skills, smooth combat, and its great loot system.

AC1 is not on its way out, it has consistantly held a higher/steady population compared to AC2 ever since it came out. They are coming out with an expansion to add polygons, and much more content. AC1 has been less glitchy than many of the games I have played, discounting patch day/weeks of course :) I would also like to add that people who complain about the macros, and 3rd party programs etc .added to the game only complain because they are worried about their ego's, or e-penis. In all actuallity, these things hardly ever have a direct effect on your playing unless you use them yourself.

AC1 is fun, its that simple, You can have fun soloing, and with the new high level content htey have ben adding, you can have fun dying with your friends :) This was my first MMORPG, and to this date, is still the best I have ever played.

You've got to be kidding... I think you need to do more research before you come on here saying all this crap. First off they are NOT upping any polygons in AC. They are only doing a RESOLUTION update. read the DEV NOTES BETTER.

Now about your supporting decal and plugins, well some of them are cool, but obviously with your statement of ego, then you must be referring to the Fing BUFF BOTS. Well you are WAY wrong with your statement BUDDY stating

"In all actuallity, these things hardly ever have a direct effect on your playing unless you use them yourself."

Oh, really? I just started a character on Verdantine last Saturday. I don't EVEN use any buff bots to help me play. Now, being level 18 out hunting with my 3rd level Item Enchant spells on my bower (not even having G arrow yet, since my Alch skill still fails 50% of the time), hunting Liches on my current quest. Then all of a sudden a level 10 comes in a clears the whole dungeon, killing off all there is 50 times faster than I can do. Infact in the time I took me to try to get one Fing kill, this lvl 10 swordman took out the whole room and killed about 8 liches. I couldn't even keep up with him running down the halls. He had half of the next room killed before I even got to them. By the time he cleared the whole dungeon I hardly got ANY XP and before they would respawn, I was having to go back outside to buff myself again. So, DONT FING TELL ME THAT PEOPLE USING DECAL HAVE NO FING AFFECT TO US PLAYERS THAT PLAY BY AC's STANDARD RULES. Until AC adopts these abilities that all you lazy arse ppl use, it still is cheating, cutting corners and affecting my gameplay as long as we both still share the same FING SERVER.

Oh BTW, doid you all know there are over 60+ 126 lvl chars already on Verdantine and one of the first ones to get there was done somewhere around June 29th? That is like only 20 days after the server opened. Shees back before there were decal the first person didn't reach 126 level until AB (Ayan Baqur) was settled, which was May 2000. However, of course with all the content and so many knowing routes to get to lvl 126 faster is fesible, however to do so within 20 days only shows how F'ed up AC is now. I am sure the majority that are 126 on Verdantine got there using UCM, DECAL+Plugins, taking advantage of non-reported bugs, duping and etc...However, I am sure atleast half of it was by a great organised groups having a future buff mage as Monarch and use of decal is a major influence. Yes, I agree AC will have a funeral. However, it is a slow burning of the modern day MMO.

Finally for other things I read in this forum. No, AC2 has more than Xplorer wants to consider, times that 3K by 4 and that is just the US servers, you haven't even began to count the Eur server or Kor servers.

As for MEO and DNDO, Well first off MEO is funded by VUG so their isn't a deal that connects MEO and DNDO. Turbine is fully funding DNDO with Investors. The way to look at them competing??? I wouldn't worry about that. MEO, play the story, DNDO....play the campaign. Two different games, two different arenas, you will understand this more after EQ2, WoW, MEO and DNDO come out. I believe the REAL MMO Genre NEXT generation is about to slap us all in the face, hmm say a gradual shift  between Sept 2004 and April 2005.

Oh any BTW AC sub base is more like 30K not 100K, that was when ACDM came out and before DECAL was to widely used. I think a lot of ppl here need to do more research before sharing an opinion. Also from the other forum about that one guy using his employment with Wells Fargo to be somehow linked with Turbine and his so called paraniod info. Well, I think just reading at turbines technical outlets will show you how paraniod that guy is and even how mis informed he is. Shees...

Nuff from me. Well, that's my 2 pyreals.... Now don't dupe it...

PS. Oh BTW, AC is the test rat for future games. AC2 is becoming a guinea pig. In my HONEST Opinion, Turbine should do a next step test with AC (They can afford it). RESET ALL THE SERVERS AND DELETE ALL THE CHARS (BTW what the hell is a toon? toons aren't an animated avatar - http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Cartoon) THEN STOP THE ABILITY FOR ANY 3RD PARTY PLUGINS TO WORK WITH AC. MAKES AC CRASH!!! Then see if the subscription base increases. I bet it does and anyone trying to sue for losing their charater, claiming of loss of invested time. I laugh in your face when they win because it is really turbines Intellectual property. I DONT SEE THEM SAVE CHARS ON YOUR COMPUTER. HAHA LMAO. I DARE YOU TURBINE.... DO IT!!!!!! MOHAHAHA. I can see the stampede to the servers now.

Haha, your funny buddy. People didn't hit 126 fast on VT because decal is out, They hit 126 so fast because Turbine MADE THE GAME EASIER THAN PIE because all of the people whining about how hard it was. I can hit 50 in a 3-4 days, no decal, no buff bots. The game is EASY now...getting xp is simple, wtih the new loot profile you can get good loot at lower levels alot faster.

You are mistaken about the people hitting 126 in that short of time. If a guy spends 16 hours a day playing, he can be 126 pretty fast in AC. And there are "1337 Children" that play AC, that will spend those hours because they want the big bad level, the big awesome loot, to be "Uber". This happens in EVERY Game, not just Asherons Call. The problem is all the people who were worried about someone beign higher level etc., not using decal, complained about how hard the game was, and so turbine kept making it easier and easier and easier.  I use Decal, i'll admit it. Because I cannot Id the amount of loot form the 20 monsters I can kill in 30sec-1 minute on my mage. I've alwyas used decal for those ID programs, and thats about it. And i'd dare say thats what the majority of people used decal for, simply iding loot, something turbine should have put into the game, TURBINE KNEW THAT, thats why they all decal to go, saves them programming.

I agree, I wish we could have AC back how it was, before people were worried about being l337 and using buff bots and getting the greatest/latest loot etc. I've even tried making a small community on my server, where me and 40+ people re made characters and we used NONE of those things. Even without using it, we had pepole 40+ in a couple days. The problem isn't the game, its the players. Regardless if 3rd party apps are out etc., there will still be pepole who think being Uber is most important and will ruin it for many others. But it wouldn't ruin it for me, because I would have my friends around me and be having fun, I DO NOT CARE if pepole are higher level, if they have better loot. If they come to my dungeon and start killing stuff way faster than me, well i'll switch dungeons or logoff for a bit. Doesn't make me upset, its just life. ALL Games have these things happen, people are pricks, and they aren't going to change.

its not the 3rd party apps etc. that are bringing the game down, its the people who use the apps in ways they shouldn't be.

In all of my playing time in Asherons Call, I have never once been pissed off because someone was outkilling me, had better loot, or was higher level than me, or could do somethign I could not because of a 3rd Party App. Why? I'm laid back, and the game isn't my life. Sure it was a darn important part for my first 2 years, and it was fun as heck. I do not agree with how people use 3rd Party apps, but to each his own. If someone outkills me over and over in a dungeon, he's a jerk regardless if he did it all on his own, or if someone helped him with a 3rd party app. I just move to a new loc or log off til he is gone. I don't think it ruins my gameplay, because it rarely happens to me.

The last thing I read on the expansion was they were adding a few polygons but not creating a new engine.....I haven't read anything since then, because I don't need to. Any improvement is a great one, because the game already has the best base to any game i've played yet, everything else is a whole lot of icing on the cake, and maybe even a cherry on top.

Sheesh Tyr havin a bad day when he wrote that or wot!

AC1 always has neen and still is one of the most fun games to play.  You can play in whatever way you like - if you want to play completely free of assistance then fine, carry on.  If you are disturbed by an overpowered buffed up tank, just move else where, the place is huge!  If you let yerself get wound up over things like that, its time to turn off n get some fresh air.  It is not the fault of the game etc - botts of all types take the drudgery out of the game so you can have more fun out hunting, not standing there clapping all night.

So, whats the idea behind this game?  Is it a flat out race to 126 so you can say yay, i won! Or is it the challenge of killing super beast and seeing what it carries.  Its all about the "stuff" - the whole game, unless you are one of the pk community, revolves around finding equipment or toys and looking totally different to anyone else.  Its about making friends, talking to folk, joining monarchies.  Where does using a buffbot - most likely provided by youre monarchy, ruin the game?  No matter how big you are or how well buffed, there is always a critter to big or hard for you.  At least in AC you can actually fight, and get loot from any critter your crazy enough to try and kill.  You can go kill lvl 5 critters or lvl 105 - non of that grey thro red dot rubbish here.  If you fancy trying to kill the white rabbit at lvl 10, of ya go n have fun!

Far from ruining the game, botts make it a lot more enjoyable for the vast majority of players - ok give or take the overbuffed ass or 2 but that happens wherever you are.  Once you have levelled the old fashioned way to lvl 20 for the 80+ time just to try out a new template, mage or whatever - a buffbot is a god send, and lets face it, often the only reward that a monarch can give you for all that pass up xp.

Decal? sure, use it if you want - just dont UCM (grrr).

PS:  If youre not makin greater arrows, why not go see whats fer sale in the marketplace - its what its for!

What the one guy failed to mention about the 126's in the new Server is that they all mostly have 6 or more vassales.  The XP pass up system in AC is out rageous.  A vassale can pass up more than like 60% total of what he makes.  SO it takes 4 billion xp to reach 126 roughly.  Say you have 6 vassales making 500million already thats about level 80 and they all hunt together and you help em out because you can hutn with anyone level 50+...thats 3 billion xp with out you even moving your finger...

I know monarchies are mainly for ranks and all and having more than 2 vassales is kinda a waste...

I have one vassale thats level 40ish, passed up 10 million xp to me and im level 78 with 450ish milliong xp...and passed up about 220ish million to my patron already.  My patron is level 75.  Ive made more than 1/2 his total xp.  Who here is doing the work?

    AO, DAOC, AC, AC II

You say "do your reasearch before posting opinions." Those numbers for AC2 are not my opinion. They are actual numbers posted by current AC2 players theirselves. I posted the LINKS to the actual threads by current AC2 players in the AC2 forums so you and others can see for yourself. If you do not like the numbers, then go onto the AC2 forums and call the current AC2 players liars. image I am simply repeating here, what they have said and posted.

Those numbers are ALL servers in AC2. LOL there are only 2 servers for USA and both together at peak time never get more than 800 players each. The foreign servers are doing even worse than the American servers! 400 players online at peak time!!! image My 6,000 account estimate takes into account players from the 3 major world time zones who are not online, who are asleep, at work, at school, etc...

As for MEO and DNDO, Well first off MEO is funded by VUG so their isn't a deal that connects MEO and DNDO. Turbine is fully funding DNDO with Investors. The way to look at them competing???       Have you played EQ? EQ is Middle Earth Online..... unofficially. Every single thing in Lord of the Rings IS in EQ... except for a quest for the one ring. Treants, Hobbits, Halflings, High Elves, the lore and storyline behind the High Men, Orcs, Trolls, Elves, every race, the Tree Elf City (Lothloreian), the High Elf city, Moria (the Dwarf home city), all of it is in EQ. Some under the exact same names, (Misty Mountains anyone? image)some under different names. Guess what EQ2 will be? image

If you really believe MEO and DDO will not be compeating vs each other, then that is you. Let me ask you this..... do you think MEO and DDO will be compeating vs EQ2, HZ, GW, EQ, AC, DAoC ? image

I posted the source for my numbers for AC. Plus went into detail how those numbers were arrived at - as Sir Bruce goes into detail about at the link I posted. You are the one simply posting your opinion without any data backing it up. But either way, we both are in full agreement that AC is a successful MMORPG. That it has made it to the industry standard for the intended shelf life of a MMORPG which is 5 years. AC is now running itself, all costs, investments, have been recouped. A-la just like the story with EQ. (As profiled in Buisness 2.0 magazine.) AC could sink down to 10,000 accounts and no worries. The game has already paid for itself many times over. And has grossed enough that any current overhead costs are negligable. (sp).

The only thing that could quckly kill AC is Turbine relying on it too much to support the dead horse AC2, along with DDO and/or MEO.

PS. Oh BTW, AC is the test rat for future games. AC2 is becoming a guinea pig. In my HONEST Opinion, Turbine should do a next step test with AC (They can afford it). RESET ALL THE SERVERS AND DELETE ALL THE CHARS (BTW what the hell is a toon? toons aren't an animated avatar -

LOL! You know as well as everyone else that Turbine would never re-set all the AC servers heheh. AC is over 5 years old. How long has it been a "test rat for future games"? AC2 is not a guinea pig. It is a dead horse that will be put out of its misery when WOW, EQ2, GW, and others get released. AC2 had roughly 50,000 players at release. Over 1 1/2 years later it has roughly 6,000 players. What does common sense say is going on? What does Mr. Reality say is going on? When a MMORPG loses 50% of its total players what does that mean? How about 75%? 80%?

This game will only die when it no longer is profitable. Here is a prediction. They are going to come out with another expansion for AC1 AND it is going to include a new graphics engine based on AC2 with new updated graphics. AC1 just has to much history and following. I stopped playing last year and I am now into EVE-ONLINE, but I would go back to check it out if they would just create another god dammed pk server. I really do not know why the created another carebear server. What they should do if they REALLY want peopel to come back is create a new PK server. They would probably have to create 2 of them because the 1st new one would get overloaded.

Why is all my text have an underline under it???

Well I wish they would do a graphics update by using AC2 engine but alas, Jessica at Turbine said several times, they are only doing graphics upgrade so to not lose the player base that is supported by older computers.

They have options. They could create a new client that has the new improved graphics and keep the old one functioning for people who like the old graphics/interface.

  •   AC2 has an entire new graphic engine and game engine.

It is impossible for AC to use the game engine and graphic engine from AC1.... LOL! May as well actually make AC2 be  AC2 heheh.

The graphics in AC can be upgraded. Just like EQ did. The current EQ looks 100% better than the old EQ when it first came out. It is the same game engine and graphic engine, but upgraded to its maximum capabilities.

Im really dissapointed in everyone, having read for 35 minutes the 4 pages are disgusting, seriously here...

AC wont die, AC isnt poisend, the only thing i saw that was true was the PLAYERS DOING IT TO THEMSELVES, and here let me tell you a story that will make you laugh most likley

back in 99' i was 10 or 11 and asheron's call was the first game ive ever heard about or played and here's wat made me get hooked,

Back in 99' when u were getting goosebumps or sweating when running on a quest to get leather breastplate or even just creating a charachter, IS IT GUNNA BE GOOD? IS IT GUNNA BE MELEE, HYBRID? OG MAGE? HEALER... BOW GUY ??!?! not sure and never was always trying out new templates always seeing whats around that corner, THE FUN of freaking out when u FIRST started and came into the world and see a rabit and thinking ur gunna get MASSACRED (umm spell check please) and goign to the armory to see if theres any new armor thats above 50 hell thtas about 40 and seeing a lvl 25 and following him around watching him take out 10 drudges at one time with AWESOME melee skill and seeing a mage use a lighting bolt on on a drudge ur infront of and it just happends to go though u and your think Oh MY GOD !!!! PLEASE DONT KILL ME and everything like that or is even close to my memorys BUT LIKE I PROMISED A STORY, i was 11 yrs old and i was on the beach in eastham late at night with no one there but me and some gromnies lol, i had my leather armor and my started hammer, and i died... CRAP I SAID and then i go back to get my body DIED AGAIN, NO!!! so i figured i go look for help, NO ONE IN SITE and i said i can do it so i gather up some money from a drudge bought my self some chain mail AND DIED AGAIN to a little beach gromnie lol, wasnt funny to me, i woke my parents up CRYING MY EYES OUT lucky for me my step dad played to and he had a lvl 19 and got all my stuff back for me=D

THATS THE THRILLS OF THE GAME, THATS WHAT I LOVE...

    Currently Unsubscribed/Game Uninstalled

WHY you may ask if i have all those great memorys? because now u ask yourself how did u have a mule full of pure MMD's and how u have armor 400+ celdon, 350+ amuli and everyone said that 345 is the highest for amuli... its because AS THEY MADE THE CHARACHTERS STRONGER they FORGOT to make the animals stronger, u hear over the internation channel on AC... "SO AND SO killed the queen" then u give him a /tell saying grats and 15 minutes later u figured out he soloed it in 45 minutes, THAT AINT FUN, hell i  dont care for the game for so many bad reason and i DONT blame Microsoft, I BLAME TURBINE, everything was fine and dandy too me till they came, MY OPION OF COURSE THOUGH....

and im done but i will ALWAYS have high hopes for asheron's call but i will never be returning, i will be going over to Guild Wars because THAT looks PROMISING !!! AND NO MONTHLY FEE LOL YAY

I played the original AC for the longest time. I had many characters, and it was so fun hanging out in Eastham and going hunting with people in the sewers, also going to the gromnie den at the beach, and hoping that the azure gromnies wouldnt spit acid at me, cause it really hurt. My patron was awesome, cause he gave me a bunch of really cool electrical and fire swords. They really weren't that great I figure out 2 years later, but they were the best at the time, and I was so enthralled with them. Dereth was a vast world to explore. I never got bored of trekking across north and south osteths mountains or the plains and deserts of central osteth. Then I would run up to Arwic and trade at the market there. Then it went downhill.

I remember when Arwic was destroyed, just a stupid freaking crater, and it had my most favoured memories burning in it. I recovered my game composure, and said they would eventually rebuild it. It's all about the cool storyline. Then I remember getting to a higher level because I knew the game better. At level 32 I took my first character to Fort Teth. The direlands were a dangerous treat for a character that level, and I found that I died many times. image It was so cool, but I always had to run from the uberly awesome drudge raveners. It was still fun knowing that they were awesome and you weren't, and the game actually had challenge. I hunted there for a few levels until I got item enchantment and I took a portal to subway after I tied to Teth. I had happy hunting still after all those setbacks, but my happiness would not last forever.

Then one day out of the blue, they changed AC.image The official poisoning date I forget, but the reason was simple. They downgraded something. They freaking screwed fort tethana. All my uber loot raids now sucked. My monarchy split up (fort teth was our home town. After the nerf, everyone left). All the new weapons upgrades made the coolest weapon in the game, The Atlan, look like total crap. GSA, the most uber armour in the game became uber no more. Then after the DM expansion, which added a cool tropical island, buffbots became crazily popular, and a person could level with ease without even having to do any thinking. Buffbots and macros ruined it for me, I nearly had enough. The elemental story was idiotic. I couldn't even go out hunting without aggroing some huge fire or lightning elemental. That killed it. image Tinkering was a call for attention and help. But it didnt work. The scrolls made casting WAYYYYYY to easy.

Thats when I cancelled my account. After 3 years of playing the uber game, in one incidence, they totally screwed it over. I'm never going back. Macros, Buffbots, Bad Updates, I totally agree with you Hieromancer. The game is digging it's own grave. LOL, and I like the story to. Sound like when I died so many times on Eastham beach. OH WAIT, NOW THE EASTHAM BEACH IS DESOLATE. To bad. The old AC was UBER, but now all hope is lost for AC. It's dying of some type of slow killing cancer caused by mistreatment not only by the developers, but the players themselves. I can hear AC going, "Pnf!"

That was my last day in AC1. Destroy my favorite place in the entire game and you lose a client.

Bah, you say I hate it? I loved it, and it still affects my choice in MMORPG gaming! In no way have I said I hated it. I loved the monthly updates, I loved the skill system, I loved the world of Dereth itself. Now, although, the game is not at it's former glory. You say it will never die? When WoW comes out, that might be it's killing blow. I don't know, but I played it recently on my brothers account and everything is much to mechanical. Theres no such thing as a newb, because everyone can become uber. I remember when roleplaying was alive and well. I remember subway and Arwic and Eastham. The reason I remember those was because I actually had to work to get things, there wasn't a spoiler for every single thing, and most of all, people actually explored the world and were interested in it's geography. Now it's just a desolate wasteland, full of macroers and buffbots. If AC had cracked down on these things earlier, the AC today would be a much better place.

P.S. although comments may seem to reflect on how people feel about the game it doesn't mean at all that we people who think AC should be changed hate the game itself. I am utterly dissapointed at the way it's been pointed. I've been there almost since day one. The people who are still can't let go because it WAS such a good game. Goodbye AC, you were the best game ever. I might not be able to find another game as addiciting as you.

Actully i dont think WoW will deliver the killing blow. Theres still abbout 8500 accounts and i know that for sure. And its right that the game has turned more over to the players that been there for a long time. But for them (me) its fun. But yeah its hard to be a new gamer in the world of ac1. But the new update will give things a lift. I just hope they reset all chars. Then i would deffinetly rather play ac1 than WoW. But yeah its right you didnt say you hated it sorry. I still love ac1image

I played AC1 since Feb-03 and have loved it.  It was my first MMORPG (I've played many since then) and inspite of its older-style graphics, it is still the gold standard to me.  I think that people hate change.  I never knew AC1 before buff bots came to be, so to me, taking them away would be a serious nerf.  To someone who played before buff bots, it seems like a cheat.  It's all perspective.

However, I do believe combat macros have been killing the game.  El Tank has some terrific features, even if you ignore the combat macro element of it.  It allowed for server-wide chat before it was programmed into the game.  It gives the date that you last got your tusks, etc.  It's nice not having to use yellow post-its to write down the last time I did the quest.

However, I got mighty tired of going to the Holding and asking to join the fellow only to find that there wasn't a single live person in there - and if I spoke to the bot I'd be number six on the waiting list.  I just stopped going there.  I wanted the challenge, but the joy of being in a fellowship is the camaraderie.  The xp is nice, but it's not what alone keeps me in a game.

Amen to that brother. I participated in AC beta (the cataclysm with the little fire dudes remember?). I preordered it and played it from day one and quit after 4 years cause my grades in school were slipping cause i was playing the game instead of doing my work and then going out with my friends.

AC had the best pvp EVER in ANY mmorpg i have ever played, and if u look at my sig ive played quite a few. Darktide was a complete blast, and i fear that pvp will never be as great as it was in ac due to all the people complaining of death penalties, and also with the inclusion of "instancing" in eq2 and wow i am certain that town and dungeon control will be meaningless now.

Ill never forget trying to kill the white rabbit with 100 people, or trying to take ayan from those fcking blood fags lol. Good times.

I will have an orgasm if turbine decides to take classic AC1, revamp the graphics, add new gameplay features, and expands the world. I dont mean AC2, that was a complete disaster.

I pretty much grew up through my teens with this game, it was my first and most loved mmorpg. I have so many fond memories of this game and all the friends i made in it, and i will never go back becasue i heard of how different it is now. But i will always keep it in my memory.

Turbine is actually releasing a new expansion titled Throne of Destiny.  The link to the details is here:

    http://ac.turbinegames.com/index.php?page_id=265

They are upgrading to take advantage of DX9.0, as well as upgrading from 16-bit to 32-bit and redoing 6,000 textures.  They will also be raising the max level (to 275) and adding "augmentation gems" that looks quite interesting.  They are also adding a new race for players, called Viamontians.  On top of all that, they are adding various miscellaneous things, such as many new monsters, new items, new titles,  new faces/hairstyles, a minimum of 20 new quests.  And that is just what they are telling us.

Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing all these new things.

Most of us are probably aware of that. I might come back if it's good enough.

I figured as much.  Just wanted to make sure, is all.

I've been coming and going a lot from the game.  It has it's bright spots, but the content has been getting a bit thin I've found.  I've done all the quests I know of that I can solo, and have done a good portion of the large harder group quests.  Once I get to that point, I stop playing for a update or two then come back and the process starts again.

Most times I end up playing lately, I've always gone to alleigance mansion or marketplace and just chatted with people.

I hope they make us all proud with this new update.  But I'm not holding my breath.  I did that with SWG and was let down overall.
