I don't know why so many people are gushing over EQ2's graphics. They tried to make it as realistic as possible.. but I mean come on. The characters look like damn manacins..
that just freaks me out.
I mean this is a game, lets let it be a game, I don't want to stare at plastic looking characters my whole time playing.. yuck
I plan on WoW over EQ2 because I like everything I have read about WoW. I like the rest system, 24 hour day system, and the graphics. As soon as I saw the screenshots on the site, I knew I wanted to play WoW. I don't want as realistic world as possible. I want the bright colors and cartoony like figures. I like the idea of tons of quests.
EQ2 is a game I figure will be great. I hope that WoW is as much fun as it looks. I have nothing against EQ2. I played EQ and liked it. My only problem was that I don't have any personal friends playing any MMOs so I really do mainly play solo. I am kinda shy. I read that there were a lot of quests and figure that it will be easier to enjoy the game.
I never had a guild in EQ so I got up to 35 and was missing out on content because solo or with the couple of friends I did have could not do. I blame no one for that. That is how my style is. WoW looks more fun for me so just slowly leveling will be fine to as seeing the world would be cool and I want to be a dwarf riding a gnome steed.
i wouldnt chose WoW over eq2. Simply because i dont feel anything from the screenshots and im not the least bit interested in anything i read about wow. None of the classes interest me in the least bit, they are the most basic of basic classses. Im sure the same could be said about eq2, but honestly when i look at the screenshots i feel like i could actually be living in the world, i feel like it is a living breathing world full of living breathing people. When i read about the eq2 classes i get excited, it seems they have took the eq2 classes and split them into different catagories which i really dig. And the whole Freeport vs Qeynos thing really really interests me because the lore of everquest, and everquest 2 seems to have so much more depth than WoW can achieve.
I'm looking forward to both of them, in all honesty...
However, if they were to both release on the same day, I would have to go with WoW for several reasons.
1) PVP. WoW will have a fully fleshed out PvP system at release. EQ2 won't.
2) WoW has NO NDA for it's beta... that tells me that they have nothing to hide and that the product is in good shape as it stands... come release, I'm expecting perfection.
3) It's Blizzard for Pete's sake! When has Blizzard ever done wrong?
All-in-all, I think both games will be awesome. However, I believe WoW will be outstanding right out of the box while EQ2 will need time to fully blossom... just my prediction.
Yeah, EQ2 will have PvP at a later time, but as for content EQ2 will beat WoW. WoW seems more for the "jump in, play for an hour, log off" type crowd IE kids. EQ2 if its anything like EQ1 will be much more involved. I may try WOW though if it comes out before EQ2, which I think it will. Sony never seems in any hurry to release anything.
Oh and how do you justify saying EQ2 sucks when its not even out yet? If all the people from the WoW boards play WoW I may not try it. I dont want another Battlenet experience.
Laying in bed, looking up at the stars, a single thought passed through my head. Where the fuck is my roof?
Originally posted by Azron If you havent gone through both the WoW info and the EQ2 info your opinion doesn't matter. I am wanting to hear from the people who have fully informend themselves on both games, without major biased. Why did you pick WoW? Is it for the worse graphics? The lack of imersion? The way they try to hurt people who just want to kill things for hours? Or maybe you just want to play a game that will not have many people playing it in a year? Crowding can be annoying empty servers leaves your pick of the content... right? If not one of those reasons, why are you waiting for WoW?
I have no beef with the graphics... They either appeal to you, or they don't. But i wouldn't call them bad. As for lack of immersion, yes that's true. If you ever walk up to an npc in the game, he will rotate facing you, and text will appear... Not very immersive. This is one of the reasons i'm moving to EQ2, for incredible immersion into the world of norrath.
Back to your question. I'm not waiting for WoW.... Which reminds me, why am i here?
the big step for eq and eq 2 is the graphics besdies that is like played eq 1 but with better grahpic. id rather eat paint chips. wow is more quest oriented. ive already pre ordered wow so my last words are. wow will be better, hands down.
As for the quests in WoW, i heard a really bad newbie experience with one of the quests. Sure this was just one, but there could be others, but i havent played the game myself so i wouldnt know.
As for EQ2 being played like EQ1 I HIGHLY doubt that and i do believe somewhere this was mentioned but im not recalling it atm.
Originally posted by metalfoxus EQ2 has more quests than WoW... so... more quest oriented you say?
If you had read the first page, in my third post, I state that currently WoW has 1,700+ quests ingame right now, and will have over 2,000+ at launch time. Also right now, EQII has 1,700+ quests, but will be divided up more. Read my posts on reasons why.

World of Warcraft: Problems. Had someone manning the computer I was at, who I got to talk to a bunch, which was great. Had a bad experience though: Created a night elf priest, logged in, got a quest from the NPC standing in front of me. Kill 5 A's and 3 B's. Looked around, well, the B's were right there, killed 3 of them fast. The A's? All I could find were corpses for awhile. There were a couple other people there, and the spawn ratio for the area just wasn't right. Many more B's then A's, and the quest made you kill more A's.
Finally, after searching a bit (and going past some other players) I managed to get my 5 kills. I go back to the quest giver and get my reward, which turns out to be gloves I CAN'T use. Not a good newbie experience at all. If problems like this are still around, this far in to testing, I'm concerned about the game at release.
this is someones e3 2004 experience, in case anyone cares.
The fact ppl have bad quest experiences is nothing new. I have yet to know a game who did not have quests that did not need tweaking. That is really true for EQ when I first played.
I said in my other post that I have nothing against EQII and I don't. I hope it is a great game. I just like the looks of WoW from first time I saw it. I like that kind of graphics. I don't realistic looking. I want bright and vibrant colors. I don't worry about NPCs able to get me immersed. If I was to want that then I would want tons of cutscenes like FFXI. That truly made me have fun with game.
Until we can jack into the games through immersion tanks or actually hardware installed in our games, then immersion will never be something I look for. I look for an interesting story. I look for fun. I know that companies are looking to make a person feel more involved with a game. I think that is great but I never feel immersed. The only time that a game has held my attention other than being in a group while fighting is the cutscenes in FFXI. Everything else has had to wait if I was watching something on tv that had me interested.
I really like Sony and I like the products. I actually liked EQOA alot. My only problem was trying to group. I hate ninja looting and always will. That is why I stopped EQ so easily to go to DAoC. Maybe EQII will have a different loot system but I hate someone ninja looting. Real life friends have told me about losing magic items to ppl that ninja loot until confronted and the person logging out. I have had it happen a couple of times but I don't like it being an option for ppl to be able to do that.
I had a really great time in EQ. I had more fun in DAoC. WoW looks like one that will be even more fun to me. I also have to say that I agree about EQII quest system that many will be race or class specific. From what I understand about WoW quest system is that they will generally offer multiple items as rewards so that anyone can do the quest.
Simple reason I'll play WoW over EQ2? I've been playing WoW for 8-9 months now which is longer than I've played all SOE games combined. And after trying 12 different characters it's still fun to log in and play even if it's for an hour or two. Nothing to do with graphics, even SWG admittedly blows WoW out of the water. Nothing to do with number of quests or classes. You can have a million different classes and so many quests you'll puke, but if it's not fun, what's the point? Will EQ2 be fun? Probably. But with no word other than from SOE, who knows. I do know right now that WoW is.
As far as the bad n00b quest experience, here's another sign that Blizzard listens. Spawns like the one you experienced among others (fellcones for those who have played a NE) were fixed in the first patch after NE were introduced.
But even with my bad experiences with SOE games, I will definitely give EQ2 a try and make my own decision.
I was fortunate enough to get into the WoW beta and can say that there are a decent amount of features I enjoy but for the most part a lot of which has been done before in previous titles. Fortunately the polish is comfortable and the whole essence of the game is fairly solid. The only problem I have is that after playing for a few hours and logging out, I really have no desire to log back in for days between. I don't feel any real connection to WoW so hopefully EQII might have something to offer in that department or perhaps WoW will age more interestingly come retail.
The only gripe I have with EQII is the new game footage, the character movement looked horrible, as if the animation department still hasn't figured out a way to realistically make the models move. It almost reminded me the original EQ Luclin graphic expansion (funny moving characters), then again I am sure they will be able to tweak it right in the future.
As far as innovation, both titles are lacking but that's not really the heart of the matter because most people are looking for that special something which got them into MMORPGS in the first place, not something new and alien to them. "If its not broken, don't fix it"... sort of deal.
You can't twink in EQII? False, you can't power level and that is a great thing. On EQII you will not see power leveling services where you can pay money to have your character leveled, you will not see people playing multiple accounts, getting them high level and then selling them. It will be much more difficult to do this in EQII its going to help the game a ton. You will still be able to give your lower level character items, not the best items but you don't need the best items at level 1. You can twink you just can't instantly level new characters.
actually you Cant really twink in eq2....all items will be lvl restricted...so no Wurmslayers at lvl 1.
Well i choose WoW over EQ2 since i know SOE's work, i played EQ for like 2 years until they started to release expansion after expansion i mean SOE are stil releasing like one expansion evry 3 months or so and it is mostly crap.I know how SOE handles their gamers thats one of the facts that makes me pick WOW. I mean Blizz ALWAYS creates top notch stuff i have played as good as all of Blizards games and all of them rock if any company is good enough to create a real good mmorpg it is Blizz, and by the way if you have been looking at WOW you should have read the lastest interview which says that Blizz was counting to have like 1000 quests at the release of WOW right now they have 1700 quests!!! That alone shows why Blizz is the best they wont settle until it is great not good and thats the kinda quality i like to pay for.
Hukkan Bladestorm explorer of the world of Norrath.
Hukkan Leafstorm explorer of the world of Norrath.
1700 "similar" quests. I wouldn't call that the icing on the cake by any means.
Expansions can be a good thing. SoE releasing one every three months is a little over dramatic.
The only thing I can agree with you is that SoE did in fact screw a lot of things up. I miss the (Verant - 989 Studios) Everquest, but SoE does actually have some amazing people working within the company. It is only a matter of time till they get it right again.
As far as business goes its only a matter of time before Blizzard is bought out, it may not happen soon but it certainly will in the foreseeable future.
Look, when they say 2000+ quests, that means one quest could be 'kill 5 X and 3 Y and bring me a Z' while the other is 'Kill 5 R and 3 Q and bring me K'. Both are basically the same quest yet they count them as 2 quests. So in reality theres probably closer to 200 or 300 ORIGINAL quests.
