Why would you choose WoW over EQ2?

Most of this post has become a flamefest, but I will reply to the actual question in hopes that this thread can be put back on track as this is a question that interests me.

I for one will be playing WOW as what I have seen and read so far has greatly appealed to me. I am not blind to EQ2 though, and will certainly be taking a look into it as well. I fully expect to play both games through at least their open beta phases or trial subscriptions.

Which game will I stick with? The one that hooks me. I will not make some prophetic decision that could later force me to eat crow. Both games have made promises that intrigue me, the one that better delivers will win me, until something better comes along. Such is the loyalty of the MMORP customer base.

Gameplay > ALL. Early EQ vs. AC has shown this. EQ numbers blew the doors off of AC, despite it's graphics. Heck AC vs AC2 showed this as well. Give folks a solid game and they will play it, but if the content and game mechanics aren't there you will be trying to lure them back when the content finally gets added (ala DAOC).

PogyBait - and that's all I have to say about that....for now

I'm not sure myself. Both games in my opinion have amazing graphics. They just give the player a different feel. Some people like the feel of one over the other. I personally like both feelings. It just depends what mood I'm in. One thing that I find neat in WoW is the personal mounts system. With the horses/rams/wyverns/dragons ect... It seems like a lot of fun =). Also WoW from the gameplay videos I have seen (i have seen gameplay videos for both games) is more fast paced which is yet again good or bad in the eyes of different players. I am definately going to play both when they come out and I am very excited to play them image

I am wanting to hear from the people who have fully informend themselves on both games, without major biased. Why did you pick WoW?
Is it for the worse graphics? The lack of imersion? The way they try to hurt people who just want to kill things for hours?
Or maybe you just want to play a game that will not have many people playing it in a year? Crowding can be annoying empty servers leaves your pick of the content... right?
If not one of those reasons, why are you waiting for WoW?

Do you dislike WOW or something? I think WOW is gonna be great, maybe better than EQ2 ::::40::.
And i much rather play WOW, but i probably will still play EQ2 when i get the chance. But i think you are very wrong on the part where WOW will be dead after 1 year. I have seen the crappiest mmorpg's last longer. And WOW has been worked on for over 3 years!!! It looks great, so do EQ2, and you cant forget Guild Wars::::28::.

WoW is my pick...

And besides, WoW is gonna be far more successful than EQ2 anyways seeing how the Battle.net community is the largest on the net.

With each of Blizzzard's games selling 5+ million copies world wide (Diablo 2 sold 6 million copies in the first day due to preorders), WoW is gonna own the MMORPG market for years to come just because it has the shear numbers...

The game has so much legend and story telling behind it. WoW is greatly depicted also. I'm sure that it will own the market for sometime. The classes are well thought threw.

EQII. Not much to say about it  othe then the graphics look awesome. I played everquest for a long time. I never got into it because of all the buffs. You have to be buffed to do anything in that game.  The tradeskills are nice but to in depth I know they are trying to make it fun but they also made is alot harder.  image

all you people who say wow is very easy to level now its just cause its beta once the retail comes out its gonna get a bit harder but not level grinding level. Right now im leaning towards wow. Just  becuase iv been seeing videos of and actual gameplay it seems very cool.  Eq2 on the other hand also has its ups its graphics are one. But level grinding i dislike. Only time i actualy like level grinding is when you have alot of coolthing basicly at high levels. i hate it when mmo's have level grinding around 10 or 20. Now EQ2 is gonna have lots of classes. BLizz had only a few but is goi ng to add the hero system thus adding another set of spells to seperate you from the other shamen next to you. Although there have been many people wanting sub-classes for wow. Personaly i just trust blizzard more after SOE with there other games *cough* planetside *cough* SWG *cough*. SO im trusting blizz only issue with them is delaying stuff.

If WoW pulls all the battle.net people i will consider it a success and i will praise the name of Eq2.  If you remeber, all the battle.net players were spammers, hackers, little children, ect.  All trying to kill the other person by having hacks.  I hope that WoW pulls all those people, becuase i sure as hell don't want them playing my game.

I'll admit there are some B.netters who are like that but not everyone as you percieve. I for one have played on B.net since Starcraft and I've only come into 3 different situations where things of that nature have occured. It is in no way a common event and Blizzard pretty much have halted the hacking. In WoW seeing how it's a MMORPG it will be constantly policed by GMs and CSRs to prevent these probelms from occurring...

Who would buy a MMORPG, pay a monthly fee and then get banned the first few days of playing? It's not gonna be much of a problem. Blizzard isn't made up of a bunch of idiots...

WoW will be ok for Blizzard fanboys but the real MMORPG player will move away pretty quick.

i choose wow over eq anyday .. simply becuase unlike eq wow dosnt force you to be a crappy lil powergamer who think they r the shit cos they can beat up a king black igloobeast and hit 600's or whatever . wow is so much better than that becuase you dont have to spend hours on it doing the same thing over and over to get to a certain stage .. wow is going to be at least something worth playing .
anything that forces you to power game aint worth the money spent on it. simple as that .

1,2 buckle my shoe 3,4 knock on the door 5,6 pick up sticks
7,8 GO AND SKATE !

without life we'd be dead.

i would also like to say that i have talked to many people and seen many posts about eq .. here and othere wise .. and there were about 80 % of them said that eq just took alot of the fun away .. they said it forced you to power game , they also stated that after a while the game got incredibaly boring becuase all it was about was level grinding and there was not much else to focus on ..
most of them said they had quite becuase of this . i dont know about eq 2 but i certainly dont want a game that forces me to spend hourse maxing out my character just so i cant beat the beast of father cristmas .. for me a game like that is a game that has no point and a game that will inevitably suck .

If you're gonna troll, atleast be accurate about it.

Graphics: Opinion based. EQ2 is more realistic while WoW is more Artistic.

Lore: ROFL! I'm not even gonna explain why. Let's just say Warcraft has about 10X more lore than the Norath universe.

Tradeskills: If you don't like it, that's your opinion but seeing how you obviously don't know anything about WoW, I'm also gonna assume you know nothing about the tradeskills either.

Questing: That's your opinion that you might think it's subpar but I'm gonna assume since you know nothing about WoW, you also don't know anything about the quests in WoW.

Overall: Seeing how WoW is in Beta and is no where near finished, I find it hilarious by just thinking that because in your view (by which you know nothing about WoW) you think it's a subpar game compared to EQ2 while EQ2 isn't even in beta yet and no one has actually played the game.

WoW looks like drawings. The models do not even look 3D at most angles. They are horrible. If you got a great graphics card and looked at WoW then EQII you would realize EQII is waaaay better. Remember old school cartoons like the lion king? Where they used to draw everything. Notice the new ones like Shrek are all computer animation? Know why? The animation looks better. WoW graphics are like Lion King, while EQII is like shrek.
Get with the times WoW graphics are cartooney and out dated. Do not say its a preference if you prefer worse looking graphics youll pick WoW nobody would look at both and say wow that old cartoon looks better than this full 3d world.

Norrath will have more lore and its all going to be found inside the game Everquest II. WoW might have a lot of lore too but you have to go play Warcraft 1 and all the way up if you want to learn all of it. I don't really want to do that do you? Probly but you like to sit in your basement and have a goal of never seeing the sun this summer... so you have time for that. I would rather play EQII and discover the lore in game rather than paly old games to learn about this new game. woopti do.
Tradeskills: If you don't like it, that's your opinion but seeing how you obviously don't know anything about WoW, I'm also gonna assume you know nothing about the tradeskills either.
You know nothing of EQII and are living in a world where ignorence is bliss.
Questing: That's your opinion that you might think it's subpar but I'm gonna assume since you know nothing about WoW, you also don't know anything about the quests in WoW.
I have read lots on WoW questing and it played the beta. LoL your the one who knows nothing. You think WoW is fun check out EQII its one hundred times funner. Your like the people who got hooked on Asherons Call when there was Everquest to play. Sure AC is fun just like WoW will be fun. And if there never was an EQ AC woulda been the best game.... if there never was an EQII WoW would be the best game. However there was an EQ, there is an EQII and people are going to really miss out because they just write those games off.
Look at how many people play AC compared to EQ now. Look at how many expansions EQ has had. WoW will have the same small universe Norath and EQII is going to expand and expand, maybe you cannot afford the expansions. Thats fine get a better job don't just say 'Oh I am too poor to afford EQII so I will just play WoW'
Your missing out.

WoW is almost finished it will be out at the end of next month. EQII nobody knows how close it truly is but even if its out a few months after WoW it will be a much better polished game. People who do not realize this are going to miss out you can claim I know nothing of WoW all you want but I am in beta are you? I have looked at all the WoW info as well as EQII info have you? I did it all with an open mind did you?

IF you answer yes you are lieng because nobody who is un biased would look at both those games and think wow WoW looks great because fact is EQII blows the snot out of it and will always do so.

I know for a fact you aren't in Beta because you have no idea what you're talking about. WoW is no where near being completed and will probably be released at the end of November/December area. And even if some how I'm mistaken and you are in beta, you must be pretty blind with everything going on in the game around you.

I am biased against SOE because they haven't released a single good game at all and I've played them all. EQ2 will be no different since it's being made by the money hungry fools at SOE.

Can someone please make me a sig. I would like it to have something to do with an eagle(the bird) Somewhere near the eagle can you put the words "Global Defense Initiative". Could you also have the line "If you can't buff up, don't step up!". Thanks!

Private Message me about it!

Why does it matter? I just am. I don't see why people have to justify the reasons they're going to play a computer game. It's a matter of choice and opinion and taste. So, just leave the people of each game alone, because they each have their own reasons.

Well....first off blizzard rarely makes a bad game (except for starcraft image) second, its hard to make a GOOD sequal to a MMORPG, for all the experience EQ players they usually have played EQ for a long time and want a break, sony knows that they are loseing alot of customers, ie reason for EQ2, it much depends on your preference of gamestyle, if you like blizzard games you'll like WoW better, i personally like them both, even though EQ2 has better graphics and such, WoW just looks like a more fun game to play, seems like ...well yeah just more fun heh, but you can't say one is better then the other, even is entitled to their opinion

Keeping on posting on old dead threads like this is just feeding the fuel thats needed for the fire to burn. Don't go hunting for crap like this, just let the turmoil go to rest. If an EQ2 fan comes over here with this crap again, just tell an admin or something if they are being rude about it.

If they don't do anything about it, you can just ignore it. Anyway, don't post on these anymore. It is for the good of everyone on the forums.
