you played it a couple of days, died a lot and reached level 18? wow tell me your secret friend cause you are one serious power leveller. my char is different from yours in the fact that if i die i seem to get exp debt! and that slows progress down. but you seem to just speed on along although your dying. haha only joking with you! i'm sure you right really i mean your a pally for gods sake.they are not meant to die in games, only rangers die dont they?
And after all that you still give the game a seven? hmm so you rate the game a good score but say that it's crap? wait there a sec...DYLAN get of my pc and do your homework now!
See that is the thing I heard about Vanguard before it even came out......so im not playing it, the graphics dont look up to par with the magnitude of the game either
I would suggest you staw away from VG as it's a game for game players. why does it have to be so difficult for people to make thier own mind up about things! I see comments like that and really just star at my pc and wonder how people manage to get up in the morning without help!
The graphics dont meet up with the magnitude of the game? i mean come on one thing you have to say is that is one of Vg's strong points. the graphics are great!
And what do you mean by thats what you heard about VG before it had even came out? heard what?
I've recently returned to VG and I must say it is MUCH improved (nowhere near perfect). It's amusing that the same people who insist on telling you what you should and shouldn't buy and constantly hating (this is 9 months later btw) are still here hating. Seriously - you know who you are, get a grip. It's beyond pathetic.

I really would like to think Vanguard got better. I mean I bought the game and played for a month. Gotta say I wasn't impressed. I really do hope this game does better so I can come back and be amazed. I don't think this is the right time though.
Are you serious about the numbers of eq back in 99. The game had the numbers right there for you to look at. they didnt take the number of people off the servers till DAoC was released. So yes i do know that for a fact. but the simple plan part is sum people can look behind the flaws like you have done, I just couldnt seeing as i came from other mmos so if your trying to replace another mmo im playing you better be up to the challenge and VG is not no matter how you twist it. People who like it actually like it, people who play it that play it just because really nothing new is out here thats worth a damn, and people like me who got burned by the performance of this game. I didnt like that i had system requirements yet i couldnt move no matter what. so i thought it was time to upgrade still upgraded still game doesnt run as smooth as i would like. I will just say this Vanguard does have a good game somewhere in there but that game should be extracted and given a new name because VG will not see my money unless i get the station pass then im paying for it mine aswell.
I am serious. I remember they used to have server populations, but I don't remember what those numbers were, but apparently you do, so give it up....what was EQ's population in '99? Remember, you know that for a fact.
Ok, what are the VG numbers now, and how do you know that? Remember, server merges and developer/business quotes only indicate that the number is 'lower than expected'....that isn't a specific number.
I would venture that although you may have some 'ideas' about what the populations are, it is still just speculation when it comes down to it, even when stretching your memory back to 99 and remembering specifically how many people were active on each of EQ's servers each night....which I doubt you really remember.
I for one think that VG is doing great, and will some day be seen as a great success. It has its flaws for sure, but underneith the covers, there is one truely amazing game design.
Yuppers, it went from one of the top 10 mmos played with xfire stats at launch to crashing so hard they consolidated servers from 12 to 4, the parent company went insolvent within 6 months with nothing to show for it but a truckload of bad reviews and the humiliating state of the current game.
Sorry Loothur, you really set yourself up with blind comments like that. Vanguard could be a decent game once they get it sorted out but there isn't anything "truly amazing" about it. It has technical issues out the butt, its unfinished and the adventuring portion is average at best, mainly consisting of grinding with nothing dynamic or compelling whatso ever aside from 'dinging" a new level. Because of that lack of any compelling purpose, this game will never shape to anything but another average fantasy grinder at best. Maybe it will change in the next year....who knows.
How many times needed EQ2 to become a good game? 3 or 4 years i think. Give VG at least 2 years (not 3 or 4 months) and come back then. It's what i plan on doing. And no, I will not let it die cose i spent a good amount of money on it, (the game and 2 or 3 months) and i plan on having fun on it when it turns a good game.
and the above reasoning, dear ladies and gentlemen, is the reason WHY we, as mmo gamers, have to put up with incredibly subpar gaming experiences.
epic fail beyond comprehension on a human (and humane) level.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I wouldn't say there is nothing truly amazing about it, Torak.
There is something to be said about flying or sailing wherever you want to. The way houses and boats are built, step by step, is definitely cool also. For me personaly, it's the artwork of the dungeons, the forests of giant trees and the way the water looks. Graphics are very important to me as I play these games for the visual experience.
No one is going to blame you for being royally pissed at the developers of Vanguard, Elikal. It's your money, right?
However, there seems to be quite a few people who need to realize exactly why the people who subscribe have remained. It's not because VG players are stubborn and trying to prove a point, nor is it because they don't know of any alternatives. It's because they like to play the damned game.
I think a lot of us need to learn to ignore hype and save yourself from dissapointment. If you want a blockbuster game besides WOW, they're right there on the top ten list. And every one of them is crap in it's own special way.
It must happen. Only if we let it die, the lesson is learned. I had my entries and breaks, but now, after server merge, I came back a third time. VG has it qualities, no doubt. But all in all its cumbersome, difficult, deadly and dull. I still spent about 60% of my time SEEKING things instead of having fun, I still die waaay too fast and often compared to medium difficulty games like EQ2 ( NO I DONT PLAY WOW!) and still its difficult to find a group (not because of lack of players, but those who are in only group with friends) asf. Really, VG has qualities, but altogether its so unbelievable cumbersome, EACH damn time I feel, hey lets resub and see how VG has evolved after some time I feel intolerable levels for frustration. When I was stuck in some damn curtain of doom today (aka bug) and died because of the uber fast repop I just decided this was my thrid and last try. VG deserves to die. Its a lesson devs must learn, the painful way, as I learned in this thrice damned excuse for a game. >< You may write athousand times I am stupid, whatever. I think I am as good or as bad as most players, and years of MMO experience have shown ME, what I am capable of, which is all I need to know. The unwelcoming nature of the game is just too much.
so you dont like the game because of all the bugs the bugs in it? and had a hard time finding a group for things?

You didnt play long ?! What game has dynamic and compelling stuff without being a grinder ?
First of all classes grow on their way. I dont know all of them but those i play grow. Shamans cloudwalk at 26 for example. Rakurr gets invis at 26. Those are remarkable points in your career, they change your gameplay. It is all about how you play. Those who left behind everything they knewed about mmorpg have a good time. You shouldnt care for levels in VG. Explore the game.. infineum ore, time warps, lightbeam elevators, stargates, vampires, maniac mages, love potions and assassin contracts.. Dungeons with traps, scripted events. You name it, its there. Ready to be explored by those who care to play the game. And this is only the adventurer sphere, not more detailed lore from parleys !!
It has it ups and downs. Its not always easy. Adventuring is not everywhere average. There are, admitetly unpopular, dungeons who are tough. The game actively supports quest driven gameplay and sandbox style (carfted gear for the i-hate-quests people).
I agree that VG might never cut the 500k or even 1000k playerbase. But i am sure it will be a very good alternative for many people. If devs keep on to improve without dropping its identity, this will be a very good game for a long time to come.
