I quit at lvl 68 paladin/57 dragoon/42 samurai on bismarck server, for alot of reasons. one of the major ones is that this game forces you to play classes that everyone else wants you to play, so you can get into a party. Also, the fact that the average day for a high lvl player who isnt a red mage or a bard or some other class that would be part of "the perfect party" would be sitting in jeuno for 9 hours, waiting for a party. after about 9 hours, they look at the time and its really late at night. Great so you have hopes that maybe japanese players who are on that time will pick you up and you can have some fun. Wrong, they do not need (insert your job here) and you go to bed dissapointed and the day has been wasted.
another drawback was the fact that it was so hard to make money in the game, and it would conflict with anything else you wanted to do (level). yes, there were many ways to make money, mainly crafting, but if your a player who doesnt like to sit around and do martha stewart crap like me, then crafting was out of the question, and you would have to hunt (nightmare monsters ect). I dont mean for this next comment to be offensive in any way, just the truth, but everytime I tried to hunt a Nightmare monster for sweet drops, a Japanese player would always snatch it from me, because they have a .5-2 second start on us, since the servers arent here in the states, the information takes longer to get to us, so they see the monster before the people in the states do.
Also, the fact that this game is based around WAITING, it would make sense that one would be able to minimize and do something else while selling or waiting for a party or healing. (chocobo quest)
The last thing i want to talk about is the mob variety, Crabs, Fish, Flies, worms, Caterpillars, and beetles. these are the monsters you will see the most of from lvl 1-75 (and maybe higher when its implemented). yes, they all look the same (color and all), they just hit harder. think of them as childhood freinds who grow stronger than you and wont go away.
When i first got ffxi it was new and wonderful. I played for about 8month's. THese are the reasons I wasn't really happy with ffxi.
1. Everyone looks the same . Bunch of clones
2. Gil was kinda a pain to get. (I was a farmer for silk , beehive chips, honey, and I also would buy cure2 spells and cure 3 spells in selbina and sell them in jeuno and bastok and windy. I had gil but never enough.
3. Lving was easy for me I didnt really have a problem finding a group or lving as much as I did with gil. Death was really harsh. The xp you just gained for thos 2hr's over grinding gone. Oops Lv down cant group with them anymore.
4. Crafting was to just too pricey.
5. The interface was kinda a pain.
6. Armor and weapons were all the same. Spells the same. So you would have a group full of clones. There wasnt any way to make youself orignal.
7. Qwests were run here take this to here and go to there and kill this. And you wait and wait . Then pop. Bamb ks from someone that was running by.
8. The fact that no one would talk. I really didnt like that they didnt really have an ooc chat. The japaness players were great players. Get into a group with them and you set for hr's of xp. And they made it fun with skill chains and the magic bursts. I thought the magic bursts were freakin kewl. But you still didnt talk to them they couldnt speak english and the translater was kinda a pain.
9. Pvp is like not there. Ok it kinda is. I dont think that pvp is the biggest and best part of the game but it adds abit of fun into it. I kinda wish they had a arena or somthing that would have been kewl. But I dont think pvp would work very well when you are a blm trying to fight a monk. Mabye it would.
9.5 I didnt like the fact that the classes were so limited in what they could do. attack/voke/weapon skill. or whm heal/rest/heal/debuff or blm debuff/nuke/run pulled aggro. Oh yeah 1 casted buff whm could cast a buff called protect only good one in the game. A bard could cast in group but not outa group i dont think.

no a linkshell doesnt do that. But a gamepad, personality, and exploration do.
make a thread called "Why did you quit EQ?" and you'll get alot more posts faster. well unless the people that quit EQ dont go back to the threads to flame the game like some FFXI flamers do.

well i stoped playing this game mainly for 1 reason... I didnt like standing around for 1-2 hour everytime i loged in searching for a party to hunt and level up with.
Though there were aspects I loved about the game a great deal I quit for the following reasons.
- Worst creatures and selection of things to fight in any mmorpg I have tried. = boring
- For many classes you had to spend more time farming money then playing and having fun. = boring
- Sub classes and class changes. Seemed like a good idea at the start, and has some merits, but when everyone you play with to level 30 starts over to play a level 1 advance class or is off working with subs it makes it difficult to stay in touch with and play with friends.
- Asian/U.S mixed servers. I loved meeting some very nice Japanese individuals and like their culture but the language barrier with many made finding pickup groups much more difficult then necessary.
- The controls and interface on the PC was horrific and for some odd reason playing the game for a few hours made my eyes hurt though no other mmorpg has done that to me before or since. I dont know if it was the colors, text format, refresh rate or what.
- Hated the 10 screens and menus you have to go through with the Play Online tool just to get to the game.

I think thats great. The things I listed were just the things that I didnt like about the game. Overall I think the interface was one of the things that got the most complaints when the game first came out but I am sure some people love it. For all I know they may have fixed it up a great deal since I played as well.
I also would mention that the auction house, three kingdoms and numerous other features about the game were excellent imo.

indeed EQ is crap compare to FFXI and I play on the Valefor Server but I had to stop playing for amonth because I had to move but now that I moved I had to create a new Playonline account so I'll start playing again (in the valefor server) around august 6 if not august 14.

I actually liked the chat window, it wasnt as good as UO's style of chat but it was big and meaty and it was easy to read what was going on. I did eventually quit though, this game was a major dissapointment

It takes more time to get anywhere in that game than any other I have played. I stopped playing FFXI because of the forced partying. I just hated having to find a party because at level 20, everything you fought will totally whipe you out (unless you were a beastmaster)
Good game, just a really bad player-involved game mechanics. I did manage to make to a lvl 55ish Bard so I did try to stick with it

I know lvling and crafting is way to sloooow, but why dont you try anything else? I play in Fairy, with the ATOMIX Linkshell.
We always group together, explore land, player events ( Chocobo races, Naked chars racing, roleplaying Jackass.....), help n00bs etc....
You are just to lazy to join a great Linkshell........or its just your server
