And they suck at PR how? Recently there have been more posts on this forum than any other, ti really doesn't matter what hype is gets, so long as it gets hype. I'm fully expecting one night ot go home switch on the news to be told about the Darkfall Vapourware game that has finally been released. You can do it like AoC or WAR or you can be more low key like WoW (to a certain degree) at the end of the day a game is judged on its playablity and popularity.
You see its completely irrelevant how many naysayers there are it doesn't matter how many times the same people write a 500 word essay on how this game will never be released. Because once/if it ever is they all mean nothing. It's like argueing about the existance of god or whether we all see colours the same way, it simply doesn't matter. So long as it doesn't come out there will be those telling us beta is a month away and if it is released then they will all feel like messiah with the holyer than though 'I had faith' shit.
Alternativly you could spend time on games that already are out and slate them, its fecking easier enough with most of the crap thats out there.

Dark and Light couldn't find a Publisher either. The reason made itself clear after they showed what they really had. And the excuse that no one wants to publish a sandbox PvP mmorg is starting to get old and is lame at best. Publishers will publish any style of game if it is high enough quality and they feel that it will bring back their investment. If darkfall ends up "self publishing" then It's pretty safe to assume the reason for that is because the product was not high enough quality to be picked up by a name publisher.
Brilliant! QFT {Snickers} that is the first time I have used that.
People have weird ideas about markets, products and economies. And the more socialist the person, the less they seem to understand about how products flow from designers to producers to marketers to retail consumers.
I would love to see this game come out. It has so many things that people have been drooling over, begging for, waxing poeticly, pining for... I have sat playing these nintendo clone shooter, Doom, Wolfenstein, hand-holding, blinking "click here to win" Staples Easy Button crappy games ever since AC fell apart in 2000. I have been looking for a great game for over 6 years!!! How can you not get all warm and fuzzy about a game that {cough} tells you that it is going to deliver your wildest dreams through a LCD dsiplay?
However, I have been watching this "Darkfall thing" (game? doubtful) for years; since Asheron's Call was setting the MMORPG standard of excellence in its first few months. This "Game-thing" has been bantered about since before Anarchy Online went gold, before SWG was more than a few ideas on a bar napkin. We all know the ins and outs of this "Game's" history... and this, so called, new information once again reeks of phoney.
I have beta tested two games and of those CoH had the most restictive NDA during early beta. We were limited on what we were allowed to say about the limited game. But my godz, City of Heroes at least had evidence of its existance outside of the handful of us beta testers.
I will declair loudly and often that I am not a computer programing, graphics editor weilding sorceress (though I have my Quad Core-uberdubber-so fast you can accidently go back in time gaming rig ready to roll on the release of TR, not that I expect much out of the game yet, but sheesh, any new game is fun for a month!) anyhow... I can not do the magic that the programmers can, I work with a stethoscope, not Sodipodi ... but from what everyone has seen as evidence of this "Darkfall thing" most 18 year olds with a Pentium 4, 512RAM system could churn out those fuzzy, blurry, jerky videos that prove that this beast lives in the forests of Geece.
Now, back to marketing - Products that are viable in a market sell, period. People who want something buy it, period. Econ 101. A great product must be viable against its competition. This "game-thing" would be a 1990's gaming engine sold to a 2010 market? As evident from my new system which will have more graphics RAM, let alone in a DDR3 design, more than my entire system had when I played AC and when this "Darkfall-thing" began its supposed life in code... this is too little too late. No matter how great your buggy whip design, these days people drive cars!
Games that are on the horizon i.e. will compete head to head with the launch of this "Darkfall-thing", they are already making use of mulithreading for the Dual and Quad cores that will be required to run them.
Call me a skeptic; call me a sophist, but I think this "darkfall-thing" is the Piltdown-Game.

Hehe, nothing brings out the trolls like something they have asked for the whole time, an independent witness. Let the V-W trolls say what they want. This game will be released and they will be crying for a betakey with the rest of us

Great to see some news come out describing first hand experience. I am slightly concerned about complete FFA even though I love PvP. However it will be fascinating to see the society in game because people will have to make their own rules and team up a fair bit. I like the fact that a player maxed out isn't instantly an uber killer because his hot keys deliver bigger spells.
Alignment is going to be a part of it. Yeah, you can PK whoever you want but you are going to get an alignment loss and be flagged as a criminal. So while you may overcome the guards, the players will get the dude's you killed + your stuff if they catch you. So inside cities PK may be a bad idea. On the highway between the cities, well the mighty will rule
Also an survival rule against mages seems to be, if close rush, if not, run and hide

That review is incredibly biased, just read it it is saying exactly what a lot of fanboys have said based off of what limited information and videos that have been shown. The guy obviously already decided it was the best game evah before he sat down and played it.
So how can a review of it be posted? it wouldn't be a review anyway it would be an impression of the game, i doubt that IGN or gamespot or even mmorpg.com has their impressions or reviews of games looked over by said games pr department.
If they supposedly have a year old build that gives the impression to someone that it will be released by next year, then someone please explain why they aren't going to trade shows, showing that the game works etc to professional sites? Hell don't explain, its quite funny watching some of the resident fanboys here making excuses for these guys.
The way this company handles its pr, presents it self etc is so amateurish as someone has stated before me in this thread. The animations, videos they have shown etc are incredibly basic, their the kind of things you have at the concept stage of development.
And as the impression this guy has given states 30-40 people, working on such a complex game, it is unlikely, that they will produce the game that they are hyping up. As has been stated if a game like wow takes 5 years of development to make with 70-80 experienced professionals with the funding Blizzard had and has now, how can these guys produce a game like darkfall in supposedly 8 years if you believe the estimate they keep spouting of next year, maybe early 2009 release ?
Hell Ill use and even more recent one, look at Vangaurd, it had 100s of people working on it, millions of pounds in budget, it offered almost as much as Darkfall wants, and it has failed miserably with only 1/2 the content it promised in.
I doubt Darkfall will be even Vangaurds standard at release, and if it is you have already seen what happens to games like that.
They really need to do something substantial like actually prove they have stable servers, a functional game, a competent developer, funding, etc every points to the contrary. They supposedly had a big loan, so whys their site so crap, why is it volunteers moderating said site? why havn't they got a pr team yet? seriously, do the people that buy into this crap have any common sense? I really don't see how people cant ask such obvious questions.
Its a shame this game is more than likely going to fail though it just makes it look like sandbox pvp games cant succeed, so we will end up with more wow clones
If they supposedly have a year old build that gives the impression to someone that it will be released by next year, then someone please explain why they aren't going to trade shows, showing that the game works etc to professional sites?
yes, that does seem strange.
But on the other hand, someone from the outside has played the game , and liked it. That is definately a good sign.
The true test will be the beta though. Then we will see if the game has all the features they promised, and is stable with thousands of people playing it.
I've stated my opinion on Dark Fall many times on MMORPG.com, gotten into a few arguements with some trolls and flame posters (even flamed and trolled a bit myself sorry)
so I'm not going to go into that...
but what I will say is...
The people who really want and are waiting for Darkfall seem to be the old UO crowd, or those who have heard the stories of old UO and want that kind of game...
But the truth is, why go back and try and re-live old memories? They will never be as good the second time around. I did have some very, very good memories from old school Siege Perilous UO... but would I want to do them again?
I think it'd be fun for a little while, but eventually you'll realize that games haven't stayed this way, haven't continued in this direction for very valid reasons. We may miss them, we may want to go back to the "good old days" but we'll never be able to replace or re-live that feeling from our old UO/SWG/AO/SB etc. days.
I hope this game does come out and those who truely want to fill this "niche" will be extremely happy with the game....
But I have to agree with others when I say that the chances for this game being released grow smaller and smaller as each day passes... either they'll get a good version up for Beta testing, generate some interest, find a publisher, hire a PR department, and get the game released.... or they'll run out of time/money and be forced to close their doors.
Sadly both are very real possibilities at this point, and we'll all just have to wait and see what happens.
btw FYI if they ever have a "donations" section on their web page, you know the end is near.

It isn't a review, it is a "letter home" telling about his experiences at Aventurine. It is heavily limited by NDA but it is interesting because it written by an independant party. You may speculate about the quality of the game, but the fact is you have NOTHING to prove your point. You are trying to compare it to Vanguard, or indeed WoW, but the truth is, you cannot compare the two games. Why ? Because it is cheaper to make a sandbox compared to a themepark. You may want to check out CCP and EvE if you want something compare with.
What DF don't have in quantity, it will retake and double in quality. The game have just about 700 quests but you will be able to basically do whatever you want. DF is about freedom and there will be no elite mobs or yellow brick road to show you the way. Aventurine is keeping things low cost and I think that is ok. Because every dollar they save on ie hireing forum mods, they can use on what they are supposed to...developing the game. The lesser the cost, the better their investors earnings will be. If this game is released with the promised features, these guys are going to be very rich indeed.
In short, you bring nothing new to the table, everything you say, is said about 3-4 each week and really what were you thinking you could achieve here anyways ? Change the mind of people who has followed this game since, what, 2002 ? I don't think so

The problem is Xris the letter "proves nothing".
A game dev that relys on a single players impressions who is on a little vacation of sorts to promote it's game?
All I can say is that when a company is this secretive about what it is doing, usually means that they are having severe financial problems.
If it is as good as everyone thinks it is (think Vanguard - lots of hype, half content NOT implemented, buggy as hell) then why would the game devs be keeping everything so tightly wrapped?
If you have a good game you want press, you want people talking about it.
The fact is - there is no game until someone is actually playing it and most likely unless they get some major funding there probably will never be.
yamisniper - you need to start using a little commen sense and stop automatically believing that everything you read or are told is automatically 100% true.
I don't recall reading anything from this Aventurine or the darkfall devs saying that loan thing was actually true.
Where does it say that they received 27 million in funding for Darkfall? Nowhere. That is the just fanboys wishfull thinking again.
Banks don't give 27 million dollar loans to develop video games. I also have a VERY HARD time believing that any bank anywhere would give a company that was established in 2002 for the sole purpose of developing Darkfall and has accomplished absolutely nothing, 27 million dollars.
What does Aventurine have that is worth 27 million dollars???? Because in order to get a loan from a bank you need to have the collateral to back it up. Show me what Aventurine has that is equal to that kind of money and I will believe it otherwise I will never because it goes against all commen reason.
There is absolutely NOTHING about this Aventurine companies accomplishments anywhere. You would think a company that is capable of getting a 27 million dollar loan would have their own corporate website listing all their past achievements and business partners etc. like any other successful company has.

Instead they have a small splash page up with two banners on it which is hosted on the same server as the official darkfall game site is at theplanet.com in Texas...
Seem a little odd for a big time greek company that is supposadely worth 27 mill?? Ya I think so.
Who actually OWNS Aventurine SA? Who is the acting CEO? Who is on the board of directors??? Why is none of this stuff publically available???
na beta is this year the current version was going throw some stuff and was down atm but they had a demo build ready so theyf ired it up which it was a online version and its was based on pvp parts some thing probly have changed for the better beta will be this year or they wouldnt have said they have pinpointed a beta date
You have got to be kidding me, never been shown at a show, no one has seen the current version, this review was on year old code and you think Beta will be this year? Your logic is about as faulted as any I have seen lately.
Like I said, earliest beta will be next summer or fall. Of course if the company is still around by then.

So the owner isn't Aventurine but Razorwax, the norwegian dudes back in 2001. They probably set up a deal with the texan firm and probably haven't seen the need to change it.
As for the loan of 27 million, well do a search and you shall be wise...

"So the owner isn't Aventurine but Razorwax, the norwegian dudes back in 2001."
haha what the hell are you talking about? Aventurine.gr is hosted in Texas on the exact same servers as Razorwax.com and darkfallonline.com is. That was the point.
"Let me turn the question around. Why should they prove anything to you ?"
Hm well maybe because they're building a product that they expect the general public to BUY from them eventually? I suppose building trust with their future consumers doesn't mean much.....
But that shouldnt be surprsing considering they don't even have the brains to hire a PR guy and tell their fanboys to go running around the internet spewing their dribble all over the place.
"As for the loan of 27 million, well do a search and you shall be wise..."
I did and no where does it say they got 27 million for darkfall.
So ? Razorwax use the texan firm to publish their online site. The norwegians are hired into Aventurine and say, we have this site, you can use it as well. I have a counter question to you, how to you get to registerin gr domain ? And what do you have to do to get to use the SA ?
--- And when we got more women on the team, it was like No, no, no. We need puppies and horses in there. John Smedley, SOE
Your missing the point obviously. Aventurine SA is not some big time third party corporation that people are mislead to believe by the fanboys. Aventurine SA was formed in 2002 by the Razorwax guys and a few others from Greece. It didn't exist before than.
It was a newly formed company with no history other than having the razorwax guys create it for building darkfall.
So how does a newly formed company with no history or achievements get a loan for 27 million dollars?
Maybe Tasos is getting fed money from some rich Lybian fat cat who loves playing video games in the desert since he seems to run alot of Lybian related websites??? =o/
Established in 1863, Lambadarios Law Offices has had an encouraging year advising Chandris Hotels on a bond loan to finance the construction of a new hotel in Thessaloniki for €40 million, acting for Aventurine in relation to its issue of a €20 million convertible bond loan with Marfin Bank, and representing Proton Investment Bank on issuing a convertible bond loan through a private placement with an option to be traded through the Athens stock exchange. The firm also advised private equity group Group Notos Associates in its investment in Internet cafés in Greece, which involved a complex structure including the issue of a convertible bond loan and preference shares with a cumulative dividend. Maria Fronista is the key contact partner at the firm for finance matters.

I like the fact that a player maxed out isn't instantly an uber killer because his hot keys deliver bigger spells.
Bring it on!

But on the other hand, someone from the outside has played the game , and liked it. That is definately a good sign.
The true test will be the beta though. Then we will see if the game has all the features they promised, and is stable with thousands of people playing it.
I just can't wait for this debate to be over!

Wow, lots more people posting stuff about darkfall then usual. I guess everyone knows beta is close!

Like I said, earliest beta will be next summer or fall. Of course if the company is still around by then.
if oyu say so i guess we willf ind out once they announce there beta date wont We
Just saw this
very cool, and intriguing
The guy sounds very happy with the game. Any testimonial is great to have.

I'd say, the tin hats are out tonight!
Let me see..
So the owner isn't Aventurine but Razorwax, the norwegian dudes back in 2001. They probably set up a deal with the texan firm and probably haven't seen the need to change it.
As for the loan of 27 million, well do a search and you shall be wise...

Let me turn the question around. Why should they prove anything to you ? Have you invested any money in Aventurine ? No?
