I thought this games is instanced like in Diablo? Which means the players are self-hosting. There is no reason to have any subscription at all. They aren't providing any service for the money.
Oh well. Another compaNY DESTINED FOR THE HATRWED OF THE GAMING COMMUNITY.

Hahahaha! Let's rephrase that: They're destined for the hatred of cheap people who can't get over $10. It's $10! $10 is nothing!! If your $10 needs to be justified a million different ways before it departs your hands, then you shouldn't be playing MMORPGs.
-------------------------------- Darkfall: December or vaporware!
@Thread Starter and the other pre-pube posters: You're a retard. They're providing you new content for that price not just the 4 minor things that you mentioned. You really think people would be interested if they wanted you to subscribe just for those 2 or 3 things you mentioned? I'm glad they have a subscription fee to keep 12 year olds like you away from such a precious game =]. Thanks FSS!
I agree with the OP, Flashship is ripping off people and the worse is that people are happy to get conned and not just a little. Abuse me! Abuse me some more! Hit harder! Paying for the multiplayer part of a single-player game, hello? Heck, I even heard the single-player part of HL sucks big time. I cancelled my preorder faster than light speed. The multiplayer was supposed to be free and now you have to pay. Nonsense. If at least they would have imitated GW's model, which has proven to be quite successful, to make expansions we can buy and no monthly fee, I would have bought HL but now they can go to Hell. And please, do not compare GW with HL, at least GW is a real MMO, support is great, tons of content, constant patching, it's game that can only be played online with millions of players all over the world; HL is nothing but a single-player game with multiplayer capacities. I prefer getting expansions because at least I know the devs worked very very hard to get the content done and I know exactly what I am getting, but with a sub I know they will sit on their asses and do nothing and do like other devs, make promises that are never delivered. There is a big difference between what devs say and what they end up doing. I doubt anyone paying HL's sub will get much. They already use advertising as funding, sub is total nonsense. They will crash and burn.
Have to love posters that think the fee is ok. Just so you can get a glimpse of what you are missing there are a ton of pay to play games out there that offer so much more content, it is almost absurd to think you are missing out on this to pay a subscription fee for this game.
P.T. Barnum once said there is a fool born every minute" and this thread is loaded with them.
This game will be deader than a doornail in 6 months. The ridiculous fee will kill it.
ton of more content?????????? if anything i remember with most mmo's iv played, its less. Its Either
A-Content you can current reach(wow comes to mind)
B-Content that doesnt matter to you(either not your class or something you already have)
C- Kinda pointless or aka Fluff content.
Then once in awhile there is stuff that is good.
and yes its only 10$ a month. i dont think anyone works anymore,.
As for the people complaining they will get a gimped game, well why the hell do you deserve content without willing to pay, hell its the people paying keeping them up, advertisements to. Never seen people get so flusterd over 10$, you can pay it or not, and if ya dont then play what ya got or dont buy it, very simple.
Jesus Christ people. You say you don't care what we do with our money, yet you complain, complain and more complaining. If you don't care about Hellgate London anymore, just get out of this forum. Go into your Guild War forums, and talk about how great it is, while we talk about how great Hellgate London is. And I'd rather pay monthly and get updates than it be free at pay for expansions. I don't know, maybe it was eve that turned my thoughts around. Either way, stop screaming how terrible it is in our faces. We are fan boys according to some of you. We are stubborn. I know as hell I am stubborn, and nothing you can say will make me put away my $10/mo for Hellgate London.
Wow, I underestimated people here. Apparently $10 is the world to some of you. Whatever, grasp your $10 and say sweet nothings to it as you lull it to sleep in your wallet. My $10 will go to a fun game with the knowledge that my $10, in the future, will help make it better than it already is. I feel no veils clouding my judgment concerning why I pay. I am not a fanboy, I am not being tricked, and those who think FSS is just out to steal your $10 for a few extra bells and whistles... you are just stupid. I can't argue with you any longer because your stupidity stops you from seeing the truth. Enjoy life as a buffoon.

havent read all posts but i have to say : this game rockz and its wotth to pay for it wheter you get new content or not. They will introduce the new content later and if ppl have money to spend on hgl , then why not.
Holy Sweet Jesus 10 dollars!?!?!? Who in gods name would pay that per month for more reliable servers, more content, more classes, skills, spells, vault space, pvp, new monsters, levels, more storyline, along with a myriad of other things. WHAT ARE WE THINKING? Pay the staff for working!? Are we INSANE!?
Most people's arguement is that 10 bucks a month isn't much. Clearly, it's not a whole lot of money, but it's the principle of the matter. Majority can afford 10 bucks if they want to.
If the content is worth 10 bucks a month, majority of people would play it.
It appears this game is very similar to Diablo 2, which was free to play online. The content of this game does not seem to be as large as true MMO's.
Would anybody disagree that what makes a true MMO, an MMO is a persistent world, a world you can explore etc etc? This is an action RPG, and an action RPG with a subscription fee just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Also, just so I know, does this game have something like LOTR where you get to be a forever member without paying a subscription again? I think somebody alluded to it, but I wasn't sure if that was the case or not.
150,000 can be part of the Founders Membership/Club normal cost per year playing HG:L with a subscription is $120, with the Founders Membership, you pay $150 (thats $30 more buckaroos) for a life time membership. Not a bad deal, I mean people spend there money on more crappy shit they don't need what so ever, and really have you PLAYED Hellgate: London, somethin' for every one.
I lawled, you can't really come up with anything so you make fun of his grammar. On the Internet. In a Forum. /cry You're English isn't perfect omg im gonna go cut myself and cry in the corner!!! /emo on This is a response to Milander BTW. No clue how to use forums, too busy actually playing games, if you dont see my post count is a single digit lol.
I understand why you love your 10 bucks so much now.
Principle or not.. 10 bucks is NOTHING.. and for good entertainment.. 10 bucks a month is well worth it..
I'm glad the game isn't a pile of crap item shop...
I am happily going to sub from DAY ONE.. more chara slots.. tons of extra PERKS.. yes PERKS.. stuff you can get by without PERFECTLY FINE!
Actually.. i've got 10 bucks in my wallet right as we speak.. hah... PRECIOUS! MMMMYY PRECIOUS.. lol... man.. you guys are sad..

Clearly not ones as well paid and undemanding as the ones at this games company.
Personally, I like to give my $10 to Tramps. I feel that if you are going to pay someone for doing nothing, it's better to pay to someone honest who doesn't already earn more than I do.
Clearly not ones as well paid and undemanding as the ones at this company.
heh as soon as my payment for the contract work I'm tying up this week comes in...I'm going Founders even though the odds on the 15 month payback curve are kinda slim..remember you have to anticipate the game being up for at least 16 months to make it worth it...the average time-frame of even mediocre MMO's is 18-22 months (Auto Assault, as an example), so it should pay for itself if the that timeline applies.
Like they said in Willy Wonka, "they print more money everyday.... but lifetime subs are rare" in the case of Hellgate there are only 100,000 lifetime subs, you had to of pre-ordered, and the promotion ends 30 days after launch.
If you know you are going to play for that long, it makes sense, but if it's a ringer like Auto Assault, how gutted are you going to be when you are bored of it in two months time, and you could be subscribing to a different game instead?
I will be trying out the free to play part before I think about any subscription. While I don't think £5 is much to pay compared to the £10 I currently pay for my existing MMO sub, I just don't see the anything in this product that actually provides value for this money.
It will quite simply just have to be the greatest game EVAR to warrant it. I'm hyped for this game, but I'm not stupid. I hope it is the greatest game EVAR. EVAR. And I've been confident enopugh to buy it with out trialing it.
However, from the outset the company has been looking at ways to financially capitalise on the hype. They want the biggest return they can get from their investment (as they should) and this is diametrically opposed to what I want, which is the best possible value for my money. This is perhaps the least balanced attempt at this I have yet to see from any games release.
(And yes I am rich enough to sit around throwing $10 bills down my toilet all day and night for my own entertainment if I so wish. But I didn't get rich by buying overpriced productsand services, and I won't stay rich if I start to. Not only can I afford $10 for my entertainment, but I am able to source alternative ways to spend it).
Proabably I will buy the game, play it a little and then put it down for 6-12 months and see if once the hype has boiled over whether or not they adopt a more serious attitude towards their playerbase.
Diablo and Diablo 2 were great value products, they worked on LAN from one copy, you had all the game modes available to you for the asking price. The Game lobby service was hosted free and still is. These people made Diablo?
I think this whole thread can be summed up pretty easily.
Either you have fun playing and are willing to pay the people that created the product that allows you to have that fun, or you don't find it that fun and are not willing to pay. It's kind of like a cover charge at a club. If you like the club and have fun there, you pay the cover charge. If you don't like it, you don't go there and you don't pay. (And by the looks of things you probably bitch about how unfair that cover charge is and how they are ripping everyone off to anyone that will listen to you. )

And you hang out with all the smart people at the club next door, which has a more expensive entry fee, but better service, better entertainments and you don't have to lend them the use of your own equipment or get bombarded by advertising. Were the drinks cost twice as much but are 23 times as big and just as tastey and instead of having to serve yourself, a sexy barmaid pours it for you.
And as you stand in the queue next to "club rip-off", you mention what your money buys in "club regular priced" to those queuing to go in.
When you see some one getting ripped off, or a poor return for their money, a kind person mentions it to them. Not because they enjoiy complaining, but because they are trying to be helpful and informative.
Now for those die hards, who want to be ripped off, who think it is a priviliage. They will be annoyed that you dared to question their judgement, that you pointed out the flaws in their own decisions. That you criticised them. There are some people that just don't want to know. If you mention it to one of them, they will just get all tetchy about it.
The first batch thinks that HGL is bad, and hence $10 is too much. These guys should not show up here. Why troll the HGL forum when they openly proclaim their lacking in interest in this product? What do we call these? Hypocrisy?
The second batch thinks that the game should not be charging $10 for the optional add on. Well mercedes sells their car for $250,000 and charges you $100,000 for leather seats instead of fabric. Mr somebody start shouting that $100,000 is unfair. So? Buy the Mercedes and move on. The leather seat option is an OPTION. The mercedes purchase is an OPTION. Mercedes seller is not a criminal in offering the OPTIONS. Everything is done on the table. Buy it or move on. Or do you want the Mercedes free and the leather seats free? How about a free life time gasoline ticket as well? How greedy can you be?
What is the logic of criticising the decisions of others to buy something you do not want to spend money on? You want it free, you want everyone to withhold buying so as to force the supplier to give it to you free? There are tons of things on earth you never buy but is being purchased by others. Its happening everyday, every minute. Start screaming. Scream louder and all suppliers will yield to you handing you everything free.
I am not yet convinced about buying HGL, but that has nothing to do with $10. I am not yet a fanboy, not yet, but I really cannot see the logic behind all these "rip off" hysteria.
