Either you have fun playing and are willing to pay the people that created the product that allows you to have that fun, or you don't find it that fun and are not willing to pay.  It's kind of like a cover charge at a club.  If you like the club and have fun there, you pay the cover charge.  If you don't like it, you don't go there and you don't pay. (And by the looks of things you probably bitch about how unfair that cover charge is and how they are ripping everyone off to anyone that will listen to you. )

And you hang out with all the smart people at the club next door, which has a more expensive entry fee, but better service, better entertainments and you don't have to lend them the use of your own equipment or get bombarded by advertising. Were the drinks cost twice as much but are 23 times as big and just as tastey and instead of having to serve yourself, a sexy barmaid pours it for you.

And as you stand in the queue next to "club rip-off", you mention what your money buys in "club regular priced" to those queuing to go in.

When you see some one getting ripped off, or a poor return for their money, a kind person mentions it to them. Not because they enjoiy complaining, but because they are trying to be helpful and informative.

Now for those die hards, who want to be ripped off, who think it is a priviliage. They will be annoyed that you dared to question their judgement, that you pointed out the flaws in their own decisions. That you criticised them. There are some people that just don't want to know. If you mention it to one of them, they will just get all tetchy about it.

This is where you are completely wrong.

You measure the drink by the size, so 23 times as big is great to you.  Someone else may measure it by something else.  They might not be greedy, and do not NEED 23 times a big a drink.  They might not care for sexy barmaids.  What you think is a rip off, others might feel it a fair option.

In this free world, you can exercise your freedom of expression and choice, and you need to learn to respect the same right from others.  You have NO right to criticise others b/c they hold a different view.  Where goes all the virtues of understanding and tolerance.  Your view is heard and understood, you can move on politely or continue with the discussions, but criticism?  Who the hell are you to criticise anyone here?

No clue how to use forums, too busy actually playing games, if you dont see my post count is a single digit lol.

Cant come up with anything? The guy comes in and whines about what again? All the whining...Then seems to think because he's a 'game designer' he is better than everyone else here? Next time you want to try and make fun of someone's post, try to actually READ the whole thing. If you WOULD have you would have seen the grammer comment was just in reference to his bragging to be a 'game designer' but well arseymor, you wont be back around to read this so *shrugs* Go back into your little world of the games you play, I prefer to stick my head OUT of the 'rabbit hole' every now and again.

As for HGL...As was said, and will be said again..The $10 charge isn't something that MUST be done to play the game, it's optional. As for the 'spyware' in the Eula...Yup, WoW has it, EQ has it, GW has it, Punkbuster uses it. OMG quick run for the hills they will find my pr0nz!

Grow up people, the programs look for hacks, they dont CARE what 'naughty things' you look at while you're not playing their game.

What is really funny is all the "OMG Diablo II rip off"!!! (mentioned once or twice here and other forums) Umm you do know that this company is mostly all Blizzard North people right? Most were on the design team for D2?

    See you all in HG:L

    To the Op,

Do what i did, simply cancel your preorder and just play single player games. There are a lot comming this month, crysis, assassins creed, gears of war, call of duty 4, the orange box. Why waste your time with a game that is clearly unfinished then ranting about it on the forums only to get shut down by fan boys.

THE GAME IS £6.99 per month!! WHATS THE DEALIO?!!

I understand what you are on about but your post is like a love letter from an X-wife that doesn't know what she wants from her X-husband. The game looks finished to me, the game is fun as it is and i'm going to buy it and pay for the freaking subcription END OF STORY. I don't know about you guys but i dont see any argument here.

    This is not a game.

  • baffbaff Member Posts: 9,457

    It's only £5 a month in the U.S.

The DEALIO is that they aren't providing anything extra to warrant that £6.99. Not much of a DEALIO really. More of a BAD DEALIO.

This is the DEALIO, you will get an unspecified amount of updates at an unspecified time in the future. Yow will get access to game modes other games all offer for free. You will get the luxury of free advertising in your game.

It's just £6.99 because people are dumb enough to pay for it. Because people have got used to paying subscriptions for MMO's, so they will pay for one on Hellgate too.

They aren't paying for hundreds of uberpowered servers using terrabytes of bandwidth daily. They aren't giving you any different a service to that which Guild Wars already does for free.

And the reason it costs £7 in the UK, as opposed to £5 in the U.S. is because UK people are dumber than U.S. people. (U.K. players will not be enjoying 40% more content updates).

And if you suck it all up, your next game will offer you less. The market dictates the price.

If FFS doesn't add enough content to satisfy the subscribers, they would start losing subscriptions. I'm not too concerned right now and am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and pay $10/ for the first month and see how the game goes. If it looks like FSS is ripping me off I won't come back. That's all.

    Yeah, where to start.

This type of post has been rehashed so many times with people agaist the sub fee and people that dont mind a sub fee.

    ** NEWS BREAK **

Nothing in life comes for free, you all should know that by now, if you got a problem with the game, then just leave and dont look back, take your $49.99 / $59.99 US dollars (if your US of course) and head to your local Ale House, spend your money there and wait for a game that is more your par. If your are kids under the drinking age, take your money and apply it to your college education and create a game that has no monthly costs so we can all enjoy the free ride from your hard earned work.

Dont like it what you see, get the hell out and go back to your other online game and stop whining.

Very strong worded discussions, "dumb", "dumber", "suck".  Mr Wise we need your views to dictate our lives.

The market never dictates the price, unless the market is defined as suppliers and consumers, which by definition dictates the price, since all players are factored in.  Weather influence supplier (costs) and consumers (needs) too.  Prices are determined by availability of alternate games from other vendor, and willingness of customers to pay for MMORPG instead of movies or roses for your girls (kidding, it could be ties for a boyfriend).

If someone express willingness to pay for HGL, there is demand.  You think that you are not getting your money's worth from HGL, that means one less customer filling up the demand train.  Another supplier is getting your money, and that is competition to HGL, forcing them to maintain their quality or everyone else leave as well (remember VG? SWG?).  Everyone has his/her own taste and makes their own choices, no one is dumb because of that.  You see them as dumb b/c they buy something you do not want to pay for, they see you as dumb passing on a good option.  To each his own, is there an objective definition and measurement for "dumbness"?

"if you suck it all up, the next game will offer less" wrong again.  The next game will have to offer more to grab anyone from HGL.  If HGL succeeds like WoW (IF i mean IF), the next game will have to be better than HGL or it will stand no chance.  Of couse, you may not like HGL and feels that is a failure to you, but for all that matters, its the buying decision of everyone collectively that forms the demand side.  You have only as much voting power as your wallet can support you.  The rest of the customer voting comes from others.

This is all old news and has been the template for a long time. Complaining about the design does nothing, and the fact that the sub is not required is beyond your reasoning of just because we have 3 characters it can't be done? Star Wars Galaxies released with ONE character slot and is still going.
Lots of games keep your characters low, stashes small, and have content upgrades rarely. It isn't the PRINCIPLE of it at all. You just want to moan about something to see your own type.

You can't even come close to put SWG and Hellgate next to eachother, SWG is a open world not a instanced game with only a station as a meet up point.

Not to talk about Housing , advanced armor / weapon crafting, oh yea spaceships , the list is long.

But yea basicly 10$ wouldn't hurt me at all , but then again im not going to play hellgate my self.

Just reading it now, but I was comparing it to the character limitations, not the game itself.

Try to live in an European Country with the Euro Currency, you end up paying $14.38 per Month for the sub.  I would gladly take the $9,99 thingy :)

I am going through withdrawal just waiting for it to be shipped.

Ya i'm getting kind of worried. Hopefully account management is done through a secure site outside of the official site if this is the case, because:

    http://mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/thread/153473

    and:

"Also, just so you all know for sure, Hellgate IS coming out tomorrow. In fact, we just got some boxed copies in the office. Check the pic below."

    " Posted by: Kaiser on Mon, 10/29/2007 - 23:42"

So mines otw.. it'll be here in about another hour or 2. If I can't login that'll really blow. I want to sub from day one.. At least i'll have single player to fiddle with for the time being if servers arn't up.

<Mod edit>. There is no reason for this game to have a sub. I beta tested this steaming pile, and it's hardly worth the $49.99 you have to pay for the box. I hope all of you morons that support this monthly sub BS realize you are gonna ruin non-mmo, online gaming for all of us. Other companies are gonna see the money Flagship is making off monthly subs and there won't be another 100% free non-mmo online game again.

You can't judge a game by the beta experience, and if Flagship delivers on the updated content that's supposed to be available for subscribers then it'll be worth the 10 a month to me.

Welcome to captitalism?  But I entirely agree, people getting paid for their work is total BS.  I want to work for free, that way I can feel like I'm doing something good for the world, because I know everyone else has my best interest at heart.

I did at one point, but the game was kind of boring imo.  Got my moneys worth out of it though.  Played it for maybe 3 months before I lost interest.  Not my type of game, pay or not.  Hellgate is more my style, hence, I have no problem paying the people that made it.  It's just fun play.

For the 2 years (Has it been that long yet?) it has released several expansion totaling over 150 dollars. Yeah they don't have a monthly fee, but they make you pay more than FSS is. 150 up front thats it welcome to elite on the account for life. FSS saw what GW was doing and liked the concept, but realized to have each one published would taken away funding. By just releasing content updates for those who pay circumvents that.

Btw, they are ripping people off if people are willing to play. If you feel you are being ripped off just don't play it and get out of the fuckin HGL forums.
