Needs to be a "principle" option. I simply cannot in good conscience give my money to a company that thinks it's okay to release a game in such a sorry state, and expect us to pay for it.

Sigil is responsible for that debacle. At the moment however they are no longer holding the reins, its SOE.

Yeah it's obvious Sigil had no artists because the games sooo bland and ugly, hopefully SOE will send some over.... oh wait Planetside, Everquest, Everquest 2 and now Vanguard... all really generic boring ugly looking games, theres no hope lol.
I agree. This mess may have started with Sigil, but i'm not convinced it's in better hands with SoE. I simply don't trust them. Thus, they get none of my money

To be fair, there hasnt been a single decent MMO since EQ1. Theyve all been clones ever since, that that includes WoW. The genre is all but dead, and frankly, its good ole fashioned greed that did it in. Good riddance to the whole generation of 1337 wastrels.

Indeed. It is a sad state of affairs when one has to agree with the above. But until someone comes up to the plate and innovates, it will be same old pizza, different topping.

Lol, never thought of it in quite that way before, but you're absolutely right. Capitolism FTW! . . or something.
I have no intention of paying for a game with such mixed reviews and possible performance issues, without trying it first on my PC. If they gave you the client and a month play for free, I would probably give it a try.
Nothing stops me from playing, infact i just started and i am liking it a lot.
In fact i question the OP as to why he includes buggy and prefomance issues in his poll, as far as i have played it has not one single bug, and the performance is just find, it runs on an enhanced Unreal2 enigine, so now that it has been opitimised it runs just fine!
It has nothing to do with greed, beside that fact...how do you means greed? For all you know the company CEO and employees give money to good causes. The company need to make an profit, they are there to get money, the costumer only get the attention with is needed to keep the money flowing in enough. Costumers come on second place after the money.
Making an complete new MMO is risky, why would they risk that now if they could just make an clone and satisfy the majority of MMO'er like Blizzard did and earn a hell of a lot with it. It is a shamefully treu and the companies who actualy want to be inovating can not be, becouse of money. For most companies making an MMO with fails means there end. Very few companies can survive that, would you risk your home, car and everything you have so MMO players might have an inovating game, while making a clone could give you an great income? As an Gamer I would say yes, but an businessman I say no.
That is the whole problem. PE clearly has a good amount of money in there pocket, giving them the opertunity to actualy stop with production, but belive me, that has cost the millions.
Anyhow back to the subject. I like Vanguard, but my computer just can not hadle the game good enough. I disliked playing with an low FPS. However the comunity is great. The missions and story for what I have seen are nice. Production is mediocore. Grafics if you have the right machine are awsome. Overall I think the game is nice enough to play I think SOE has done an great job on improving the game.

Greed, its the same evil that has driven companies to outsource production to other countries. A great example of this is Spinmaster who outsourced to China. And if you are on the up and up with the news, youll have heard of their product, AQUADOTS, when injested by children metabolize to form the same chemical compound as GHB. Thats right in order to save money and raise profits, yet another corporation has put the general public at risk. Not that theyre the first, or even close to the last company to do so.
My point is, companies are out there to make money, regardless of who they hurt, who they subvert, or who they kill when it all comes down to it. Why you ask, would corporations cut corners, and produce inferior products? Greed. They want more money.
I don't care if SOE is involved, if the game was released in an unfinished state or whether Sigil was greedy.
In a gaming genre where there are so few quality games available, i am happy to find one that has everything i want in an mmorpg and has quality oozing from every pore.
And am not going to denie myself the experience because of priniciples that will have no effect on anyone apart rom myself.
Whats keeping me from playing is a free trial. I dont jump into any MMO without trying it out first.
Also, even if I did like it a friend that does have it said the game is like 15GB. Thats just way too huge.
The blind SOE hate can be hilarious sometimes. Like the person that said all the original developers were no longer on the game. Thats pure ignorance right there.

Both Sigil and SOE are equally to blame. SOE published and marketed the game and they knew the condition it was in when it was released.

Explain why it is ignorance? It is a fact that most of the original developers are no longer with the game because most were fired without notice. That certainly left a stigma with the product as well as hurting it's development. Some of us take things like that into consideration when choosing to support a product and invest our valuable time with it. Disregarding those facts is ignorant.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
For me, nothing's changed since I quit after the first month.
I still have the same underpowered laptop (with mobility 9800 AGP video) which I doubt will ever run VG well. I'm holding off on upgrading until WAR or AOC come out to make sure my next laptop is as current as it can be.
But even more.... VG follows the traditional model set by EQ 1....where the endgame takes you to higher levels and PVE raiding....and that's just not what I'm looking for in a game.

i voted on 1 and 2, but thats not the main reasons for quitting. I was in Beta 2 and played the game all the way until April of this year. My main character reached level 40 and an alt reached level 20. I loved the game for its graphics, storyline, and content. It reminded me of my favorite MMO of all time, the original Everquest. In many ways VG was what EQ2 should have been back when it was first released. The only problem back then was how horrible the performance was, and added with the hundreds of bugs didn't really go well with many people that played. Now, honestly to me this wasn't the main issue with Vanguard. I started getting sick of all the class nerfs, changes and reconstructuring of the game after every major patch. Also combine that with pretty much no content after you reach level 40, except for gorg, river palace, and a couple other very very very buggy places that yielded no loot at the time after killing names. Many of us levels 40-50 finally gave up on the game because it just was not finished. Also, I'd like to see an alternate achievement skills tree cause the skills you earn every two levels are just upgrades to previous skills and abilities.. To me, that seems very lame and cheap.
Now, 7 months later I hear the performance is better and many bugs are now of the past, but theres still not much high end content. I may comeback after the next content patch is released but right now I'm having a blast playing Tabula Rasa, so who knows..

I had such great hopes for this game and unfortunately they released it before it was finished. I didn't want to pay to beta test it further and now it just seems a bit late...
IMO, it's a combination of 1, 2, and 4. If they can polish up the game by fixing the bugs/performance issues, continue to remodel the dull places like they did with Khal, and add more content, especially for end game then this could shape up to be a real good MMO. It's simply an unfinished game as of now but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun playing beta (even though it was even more of a mess back then).
I cite the same reasons as to why I am not playing, Lack of Content above level 40 and NO content for level 50.
I play these games to develop and improve my character, to see and beat new content and play with other similarly minded players, due to the total lack of content (despite the constant softening of the exp curve and offering double exp weekends etc) the game just ran out of track, and as far as I can see hasn't laid any new track in the last 6 months. If new content was on the horizon then I probably would have stayed, but the situation as it was, a lot of the people who were looking forward to playing high end content quit the game for these reasons giving me even less of a reason to hold on.
Performance was the reason the majority of the population quit, but a sizable number accepted the technical problems, which would be fixed. To offer players nothing new to do (and continue to offer nothing for 6 months) Even the most loyal of players would struggle to find a reason to continue resubscribing.
Some players like rerolling dozens of alt characters, but typically i would only roll 2-3 at a maximum and as an aside to playing my main which is the focus of why I play these games. APW will be too little and too late to get people coming back.
Overall it is a great shame because VG could have been a great game, but incessant focussing on the wrong stuff (constant rebalancing of the classes, huge areas of map that remain drawn but not released, constant changing of the crafting system) If they had of focussed on the essentials, namely performance and content that would have kept a reasonable population to sustain continued development.
Overall I still think VG is a much better game than WoW having resubbed for a month to that, and couldn't play for more than 2 weeks before getting bored out of my mind. It still is not a good enough game to get me to resubscribe and would need significant developments before I considered it again.
Its cool you enjoy the game but you know why people are not playing this game. Its broke, its unfinished, SOE can't run an MMO to save their lives and on and on.
You just started a thread a few days ago about the "new look" in one of the cities. So now we can expect them to be redoing the graphics over the next few years to get them to a state they should have been at launch in addition to everything else that needs to be address before the game is worth paying for. Hooray for the paying beta tester, SOE would be lost without them.
Maybe someday when its finished and it works and all of the advertised features are in the game and you are not being dropped through the world mesh at log in for a handsome death penalty, it might be worth playing. As it stands right now it has less to offer then Lineage 2 in terms of just about anything that even resembles compelling gameplay. Level on 10 rats or don't, who cares? It makes no difference at all in Vanguard. The community is in shambles as no one seems to stick around but the hardcore few for any real length of time.
Whatever little tweak they did to the FPS is to little to late. This game has been out for just about a year and they are still working on getting it to run.

I voted other. Because i have several reasons not listed above.
1. SoE has their grubby hands on it. That in my books makes it tainted. (go research SoE's track record of sweeping changes.)
2. The original Devs are not working on it anymore (aka the got fired).
3. It rehashes everything that eq and wow does... (same format of quests? kill x of y? borringggg)
And many more...
