All i can say is you were looking for a different game and did not find it within this one. I had a great time playing this game as did lots of other people.
Hopefully you and at least 49,999 others willing to spend 15 bucks a month...
Now you and Vicenz are just trolling. You didn't like the game and that's fine, but you're not offering up anything constructive and are simply trying to rile the other posters up.
I did find something curious. You say you like Pirates, but not this game. I would say this game plays pretty closely to Pirates, and is actually the next logical step that Pirates would have taken if it were developed further.

LOL! There was nothing inflammatory in what I said, in fact I was wishing the game success.
I love how sensitive people get over a G-A-M-E
My estimate, in other words, are that you'd probably have to see a consistent sub number of 50k to keep this thing rolling. I also think that's attainable, and it should range as high as 200k...as a niche game...which this is, as long as the devs don't screw it up trying to be everything.
After sailing through the opening tutorials I was a little impressed. Boat that felt like a boat, cannon fire was like poppin champaign corks and the sails looked like my socks 3 shots into the duel. But what really topped it off and made me go pre-order was the crewman taking a cannon ball and sailing over the rails into the drink. For me this was like getting my friends over in canoes with spud guns. Avatar customization was great and I wasn't too interested in melee combat. I get more pleasure out of watching a broadside of grapeshot at 10yrds and the knowledge you just sent a crew to the bottom harharhar.....ar.
I like to deeply apologize to the people that didnt find PotBS warm and special to their heart. But thats ok, there are plenty other mmorpgs for you folks to try out.
As stated in many, many, many mmorpgs that have been released for the last few months, everyone is waiting for the next big mmorpg and will find fault in any mmo that comes out prior to Age of Conan and Warhammer Online. Wait till the critism starts with AoC, cant wait to see the nayers on that one as well.
PotBS brings something new to the mmo table besides wizards and warriors, engineers and grenadiers and fps console games. I am happy something different is finally happening in the mmo world and to the nayers, please stick to the games that make you all fuzzy and warm inside till the next big mmorpg hits the world by storm.
I come from a background of mmorpg's (Ultima Online, EQ series, AO, SWG and Eve Online) were my mains. Trying out TR now as a casual game, but bringing something new to me in a mmofps type fashion and In the FPS fashion of things (Counterstrike, Battlefield Series, Call of Duty series, and Unreal) were my favorites.
In the games above, its hard to compare PotBS to any of them besides Eve Online, so I cant wait to plunder the seven seas and send the newbs that are Wet Behind the Ear Land Lovers, to Davy Jones Locker!
Its a damn shame the nayers wont play, your ship would be the 1st I would plunder and sink without a thought and take your bloody women and children.. Yarrrrr!

I am one of the few smack talking pirates that have been Edumicated and no need to get bookwormy on me, or I will throw ya into the brig with no food or water ther matey!
What do they bring in that should be called "new"? Ahh and please take Voyage Century into account if you start giveing answers.
Thought Pirates of the Burning Sea was the only one, eh? Well, it's the only good looking one, at least. Voyage Century came almost out of nowhere, and made by the unkown Korean MMO developer IGG. However, after playing 10-15 hours of it, the only thing that you get from it is the strong feeling that it's just a "Me too!" game thrown up in order to try and compete with PotBS.
Everything about the game is rushed, unpolished, and barren of content. The economy is as simple as you could possibly get. You find items on the over-abundance of NPC ships and sell your loot to other NPCs. The crafting is simplistic, and takes way too much time, and serves too little purpose, as the items crafted are of limited use to other players.
The game's translation is as rougher than you could imagine. It feels like they just ran everything through Google translator, and decided that it's good enough. However, if you play a lot of Korean MMOs, this is the type of quality you've come to expect, unfortunately.
The game encompasses the entire world. Yes, europe, africa, americas, even china. This is a gigantic scope, but for all this land to cover, there's only a handful of ports in each region, and nothing to really distinguish them from eachother except for slightly altered graphics. The most impressive part is how Chinese cities actually look like china, african hovels look poor, and english coastal forts so strong. Each region has its own look, but there's nothing in one city that's not in another. All you get when you finally make it to Beijing is a friendly welcome message from the Emperor, who's all too kind to greet a disheveled pirate.
Combat is perhaps the worst part of it. When you think of commanding a corvette and fighting pirates, you think of weaving left and right, dodging cannon-fire, and angling your shots just right. Welcome to the world of Voyage Century, where your shots are auto-fired and auto-aimed for you! Why have fun, when you can just click a button and let the game do the rest, just like any other land-based MMORPG? If you ever wanted everquest on water, I suppose VC has you covered.
There are good points, I suppose. The skill advancement system isn't terrible, but it's not good either. Just about any action gives you xp for a specific category, which will raise in levels. Get enough levels in something, and you can upgrade your ship and learn special abilities. Also, the graphics at sea are OK, but the land graphics are quite abysmal. It's going to be free, even after beta, using the typical korean purchasing schemes. Pay money for in game currency, superior items, or xp boosts.

I think you guys are getting your timelines mixed up a bit.
Voyage Century has been around for a couple of years. It began it's English incarnation sometime in 2006.
Pirates of the Caribbean started development in 2005.
Pirates of the Burning Sea started its development sometime in 2003.
Anything beyond those dates are pure supposition, but as you can see, PoTBS is hardly trying to cash in on the others 'popularity'.
As to differences, well, it's all in gameplay and visuals. Which you might like is entirely up to you. All of them have a free trial to play and Voyage Century is still free to play, though Pirates of the Caribbean will have annoying adverts popping up all the damn time as you try to play unless you subscribe to it.
Go read the beginning of this topic. I already argued back and forth with smitty. Quite frankly I don't feel like writing the same things over again. EDIT: This is a response to Johnny up there /
Sorry, but i am old and cannot bring myself to squint enough to read your poor choice of font color.
but, good luck with the trolling. it seems you have gotten at least two-dozen posts out of this one thread alone.

I wonder if they give air-miles for posts....
Thanks for calling me a troll, too bad i'm not one.
Sorry you didn't feel like reading my arguement with the OP, now have a nice day.
(Also sorry about the font, I didn't have you in mind when I decided I wanted to use it)
You guys can say wharever you want about this little game. But please, please, do not compare this little piece of ... instanced / zoned / limited game to the old SWG or EvE...
All games were little at one time. UO, EQ, AC, DaoC, AO, SWG, EVE and even the infamous WoW.
So there is always room for developement no matter what mmorpg you choose and I never have come across any mmorpg that was completed on release day.
So as I posted prior, its a damn shame the nayers dont plan on playing this game. It would be great honor to SINK their ship, leave them crying, Yarrr in their face and take their treasures!!
Along the "told you so" thread, I thought I would conjur up this old post. A gripping tale of broken promises and disappointment in the story of beta.
What has changed since then? Unfortunately not much, else than the dev's have claimed to be listening... and that counts for something. Too bad you can't just "listen" code... you have to program code. Otherwise this game would have it's problem fixed.
Anyway, this whole post was made to warn potential players that this game is still in all respects in a pay-to-play beta. I would wait on this game.... maybe just hang it up, unless you are dead-bent on pirates.
This game is still better than the disney counterpart, but this one costs more money, and still is disappointing.
PoTBS is not something new. It's like all the other Pirates games. I don't even know why they made it a MMORPG.
I think it would have done better like a single player game with multiplayer option.
It's not a MMORPG people are going to pay for.
Played: From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.
Basically, the ship combat system is repetative, tedious (limiting cannon balls is lame) and the missions are almost without reward! Missions reward well; usually 250exp+ 1000dbls + other items Economy is decent in concept, but it is going to be rediculous (cow costs 1 million gold, new ship 3000) due to the risk/reward/sacrifice to get items. Risk/Reward is being reviewed for PVP/Port battles as we speak which will give more incentives to make ship loss more affordable. Avatar combat is a joke, surely looks like it was made in a week, and it is so repetitive that I often forget what quest I am doing. Could be improved but the sword movements was based on filming a professional fencing; not the usual hack & slash players are used to. Missions are all the EXACT same, just in different locations. True this was done to save time & get the game released - there are a few exceptions & more complex group missions like red tide are being worked on. Open world sailing is overly long, underly realistic, mostly an open are for unrestricted gankage by npc's and players alike. Potbs is a slow moving 1720's wooden ship game - speedboats never existed then. If you don't wanna be ganked stay outa the red circles. Carribean map size is about right in my opinion. All in all, this is the worst game I have ever beta-tested, and is in the running for the worst mmo I have played int he last 2 years! Considering I am a beta-lover, that is harsh but true words. I had some friends over, and some brews in the fridge to make a long weekend of the game, but we were done in less than 6 hours.... all of us hated it. Sorry you didn't like it but Potbs does require some patience to get the best out of it. Not for everyone but i great if you like splashing around in boats
I completely respect your point of view on this subject, and well put at that!! It's not often that a retort such as this is produced, so I will do my best here.
As I have said in previous posts, I feel that this game has potential, but if the dev's don't act on this potential, I feel that this game will be a disappointment.
To this end, I have given up on the dev's, as they have promised these major fixes to the game since beta, yet they are now charging people for a un-fixed game... to this I say is bad form.
If they get out of the gutter, I will absolutely agree that this game will have rounded the turn, and is in fact a great mmo.... but right now, the ball is in their corner, and they have every financial reason, NOT to take initiative.
The next few months may prove me wrong, so we'll see.
ps. Great post, I agree with many of your points, that this game still has potential!!

Final Fantasy 7
