Favoritism at SoE - a new PR Nightmare?

I played the test server for little over a year. The GM and developers were pretty close to the long term members. When they test stuff , youre not allow to keep (as a GM) so the staff would put a ton of stuff on auction house for 1 silver or 1 copper.

Personally I liked the test , often times the GM while testing would comment on things like Heroes and upcoming events. I ve never had any problem with SOE , I d rather hear the whole story then one side.

    Thanks for the link.

It is completely unfair to let this guild transfer and not others.  I wonder what other acts of favoritism were bestowed to the developers friends, but that never will see the light of day.

Here is a quote from the guild leader of the guild that was transferred.  This quote comes from EQ2flames, page 4 of the post linked in the OP.

    Lucky says,

"you guys are right someone(s) at SOE had to do the leg work to make it happen, that much is obvious. we earned it, if ya guys are deluded enough to think this is a first your delusional, this is far from the first copy test has seen, guilds coming over to test content we couldnt do, transfers to the server from live, ect ect far from the first, ya guys just dont know what guilds have come and gone....ignorance is bliss i guess

we just had the respect not to out those people for helping make the game better"

It's SOE.... You'd think people would get it by now.

    Get over it.

  • severiusseverius Member UncommonPosts: 1,516

This really isn't a big surprise.  Things of this nature have been happening since the days of UO, if not before then with the BBS door games etc.

Now, I hate SOE as much as just about anyone else out there but why wasn't there this big of a stink about Fires of Heaven?  You know that guild that is holier than thou?  See, they were on the same PVE server in WoW as I was.  But they whined, bitched, moaned and groaned so when Blizzard opened up a new PVP server they allowed FOH to move, lock stock and barrel there.  This uberguild (ironic that that's the host for their guild's wesite etc) is so special they can't bother leveling their own pathetic toons on a pvp server.  They have to do it in the safety of a pve server then move over there.

Things like this happen, unfortunate as it may be.  Too bad Blizzard and other companies don't have a punkbuster or warden for the GM and dev computers :)  It is one of many reasons why I subscribe to no mmo at this point in time.

The only issue here is the transfer of characters.  I agree, this should probably not be done.  No gear was sent to the new server with them.  Some of you people need to read a bit more slowly.

But if this incident ends up weeding out a few people that are over  sensitive and fussy, it will make it better for the rest of us.

But according to many posts that is not true...but who do you believe...?

SOE says no items, players says there were items...

I agree...over sensitive people, because really this issue affects no one..it has not hurt my feelings..and many others are probably oblivious...like me as well (I never knew until I read this post...shows what forums do...lol)

    Cheers!

When it was announced that people from live servers would be allowed to copy characters to the test server adhoc, we asked for transfers off the server.  We were told it was not possible and even if it was they would never allow it.  Before anyone goes on about it being test server, SOE promised test would be treated like a normal server and never get wiped in an attempt to get people to move there.

It makes no sense for SOE to do this.  Test has a skewed economy, we were often allowed to keep items and coin that was resulted through testing and discovering exploits, flaws, bugs, etc.  Maybe things have changed, but in the first couple of months of the game everyone above level 20 have at least 50-1500 platinum.  Money for the most part was useless on the server except to buy horses and tradeskill supplies so it didn't really matter.  There were a lot of things done in the name of "testing" and they did get to keep their items.

It really is a big insult to those people who volunteer their time on test and were not made the same offer because they didn't have a SOE contact playing in their guild.    Even worse that they off handedly blamed the testers.

Geez people.... your reaction to this is unbelievable. They're already removing the characters they transferred over and you're freaking out about nothing. I feel bad for the players they transferred, not you greedy people. Stop freaking out about absolutely nothing. You're being childish.

Its SOE so therefor they are the devil and as such must be treated with the contempt that they deserve....

But please this is the test server ergo as a subber i dont care one way or the other now if this had happened on a live server then yes i would rightly get worked up about it as for the locked thread well i did chuckle at the title and there seemed to be an awful lot of tired and jaded SWG vets looking for somewhere new to vent thier ill aimed anger.

So will i smash my PS3 up? no lack of good games may do it but not this

Cancel my EQ2 subscription? not a chance love the game to much

    I think your mistaken...

The note is that they were MOVED from a TEST server to a LIVE server...

So...in all respects it happened on a LIVE server

    Now how do you feel?

Again...I have been hurt ZERO percent by this...some people just need reasons to yell at Dev's (i.e: Why I yell about the crap that is LOTRO due to the Devs killing a beloved license)...so let them get it off their chest...doesnt change how I feel about SOE...they are rocking...

    Cheers!

Yes i am and im bloody angry about it.(that'll teach me to read 71 page threads..)

Granted its not on my server but somebody really needs to have thier head stuck into stocks over this not exactly the best way for a new producer start his tenure is it?

They had all their items stripped and only received live level 80 characters that they used for a long period of time on the Test server in which they contributed a lot to fixing bugs and exploits..

am I missing anything? What the hell is so wrong about this?

    Well it's like this...

Characters on test servers, irregardless of the game, irregardless of the developer, stay on the test server generally because it is easier to get around the rules there. Many people go there knowing full well their characters will never be transferred off. Simple and to the point.

Oh yeah, one more thing, HAHA, shades of SWG all over again. Just in a different manner of course. Sony Online Entertainment ala oxymoron = contradiction in terms.

As has been said in this thread already, they never should have been allowed to changer servers...

Or, to be fair, then everyone on the test servers should be allowed to transfer.

If Sony decided to let this guild transfer, they should all have paid the $50 fee to do so...

Or, to be fair,  Sony should waive the $50 fee for any transfer in the game.

Today, people died because they had no food, or from a lack of essential medicine, or because someone planted an IED in a dead dogs corpse by the roadway.

I have a difficult time getting overly concerned that a guild in an online game were allowed to transfer from one server to another for free.

    But, that's just me...

And yes his response was frankly shameful if this clown continues in this vien i do worry about the long term future of EQ2

exactly they took the gear with them... Then the after effect is that the community complained and so they took the players off the server ... BUT LET THEM KEEP THE $#%#$% GEAR ON THE SERVER... so now all they have to do is level up a character on Unrest Server and they have all this mystical gear they can use thats sitting there for them... not to mention the LOADS of master spell books they can hook theyre character up with that they got from the incredibly overgiving loot tables on test server.... This is a joke.. my GF plays on Unrest and believe me they are PO'ed ...  SOE picked a lower pop server to brush these guys on and limit the damage.. not too many people are gonna freak out from other servers but the people on Unrest are livid....

The more you read up on it the worse it looks for SOE frankly i'm amazed they havent locked the thread on the forums about it tbh...SOE seem hellbent on shooting itself in the foot anyway it can the mind boggles it really does.

Read a little deeper into the story and you'll see the toon named Lucky had his wife on test with him.  She happened  to have GM rights on the server that a friend of theirs at SOE gave her.  Lucky used that toon to one shot raid enemies collected massive amounts of stuff and passed it out amongst his guild.  He was eventually caught and given a one week ban(as well as GM privs. revoked) but the stuff stayed with them.  They might have taken the most epic of gear from them but the rest of the crap he got by cheating went with them which is the stuff they put up on the market.

There you have the problem, one shotting raid mobs for loot weekly and then bringing that stuff to the live server is a giant legup for their guild and the other guild they formed on the server and transfered some toons to.  The "friend" at SOE has recently taken another job, whether he was fired or what I don't know but its not simply a story at face value like the community rep would like everyone to believe.

A rule is a rule regardless of who you are and I understand why the server they are on would be full of angry people personally..

It's sad to see that SOE is back to it's old tricks again.  It's been a few years since I've heard about them doing this kind of stuff... I thought maybe they'd cleaned out all the bad seeds, but.. guess not.

I just love how even the new Producer does the famous blaming of the community for the problem.

I'll never understand how a company that treats it's customers like fools manages to survive.

yes but they are keeping the gear on the live server so when they level up a character they can just use those items.... Secondly theyre appology had a flat out lie in it.. They stated the gear was completly stripped when they moved these characters which is completly false.. the reason people are still upset is because the characters was never the big problem.. The falsely accumulated gear was the problem and that gear is still on the server and as far as right now it is going to remain on the Unrest server

I agree thats a problem - and I dont think anything short of a rollback can fix it

SOE messed up and I dont see how they can undo the damage beyond moving the characters back to test

is it a good solution?  no

-- but it beats rolling back the server a few weeks
