Yes, it was a mistake on SOE’s part, or more accurately the people within SOE who made a decision to do something counter to SOE policy. Yes that doesn’t sit right with some people, but this doesn’t change the fact that it has no direct impact on their play.

And yes there certainly are people posting in this thread who clearly do not play EQ2. Daffid001 has a history going back several years dropping into the EQ2 forum to tell people “what a bad game EQ2 is” and getting his/her facts wrong most of the time and clearly hasn’t played EQ2 in over 2 years if ever.
lomiller i do play the game, well did but LoN selling ingame and fans like you eating it up disgusted me so i dropped recently.  Anyway you went and made a generic statement and you just showed not only your ignorance and blind faith for SOE but you showed your facts can not be trusted.

Lomiller since your so educated with the game and all its happenings please enlighten everyone on a few topics.

    • How many devs just recently left EQ2 dev team?  Oh one was a producer right?  I'll give ya some time to go edit your old threads before ya bad mouth em now that he isn't with SOE.
    • Enlighten us about this guild from test.  We might want to know things like how they had dev members in their guild, a player that abused gm abilities in thier guild, getting walked through raid content to " test " while getting gear from the mobs, Getting bonus xp from the test server to level up faster then live players, getting things easier then live players through glitched quest and the such since they were on test .............. want to keep going you can, we all want to know your astounding knoweledge on this subject.
    • Explain to us the new producers " apology " that basically called the people speaking out against this move " bad " people.
    • Explain the problems with RoK and why so many people are upset or feel let down by this expansion.
    • Explain just how the test server works so people understand why live players would not want test toons on thier server.
    • Explain how test toons could not impact live servers.
    • And ill cut off with one last question for ya, explain how you are so sure most people don't play eq2 in this thread claiming they get thier facts wrong and only pointing one person as your source for " most " people.  I personally see only opinions from you, i have never seen a fact from you just biased fluff to back up SOE's image.

SOE screwed up big and got caught.  I can bet this isn't the only time, they just got caught this time.  Now i can tell by your arguments thus far you are in the dark about why this was such a big deal.  So maybe you should do some research on the matter before you declare your solidarity opinion as fact.

I'm still thinking about buying EQ2 so I actually want to know the answers to these questions :p

EQ2 is owned by SOE, and everything in the game is the property of SOE. They may do whatever they wish with their property, and everyone's whining and complaining equates for nothing unless there is a sizable loss in revenue. So if you really care, cancel.

If I owned Disney World, I wouldn't pause in cutting to the front of every line with my friends. It is not surprising that an equivalent thing is happening here.

if you know anything about SOEs past history, you will understand you wont be getting the answers

if you dont want to support SOE - dont give them your cash

but all MMO companies do the same kind of crap

    - with no answers and little publicity  (*cough*Blizzard and Fires of Heaven *cough*)

    For the record,

as soon as this crapstorm started on the forums,

SOE gave a badly worded apology and moved the guild back to the test server

what did Blizzard do about Fires of Heaven being moved from PVE to PVP servers?

    - nothing

SOE confirms allegations of developer misconduct in EQII

    By Aaron Linde | Published: December 20, 2007 - 12:59PM CT

Members of Sony Online Entertainment's EverQuest II team have confirmed allegations of unfair relations between a member of the development team and Unhallowed Triad, a guild operating on the EQII test server, according to MMO site Massively. The scandal surfaced several days ago, and, a couple of hundred-page forum threads later, it was revealed that SOE transferred characters from EQII's test server to a live server, violating SOE's own end user license agreement.

Bruce Ferguson, EQII's senior producer, responded in the SOE forums, stating that the move was intended "to show kindness to some valued members of our testing community who have been working diligently to improve EverQuest II for the last three years." Bruce went on to assure community members that the characters moved were stripped of test equipment. Massively suggests this claim is false, and has a laundry list of other grievances as well.

A ridiculous amount of time and money is invested into MMOs by players every year, and as the genre grows alongside its player base, the ethics behind developer and community interaction become more important. Early this year, CCP's space-faring MMORPG EVE Online was embroiled in scandal over alleged developer misconduct in which an employee of CCP distributed in-game items to one of the largest corporations in the game, Band of Brothers. When asked directly about the scandal at this year's EVE Fanfest in Reykjavik, a representative of CCP (somewhat angrily) declined to comment.

But whether they like it or not, these questions of ethics won't simply go away, and they require a measured and honest response to keep the fanbase—and by extension profit margins—intact. In games where the mighty banhammer falls heavy on those misguided players who even brush with the EULA, is it so much to expect that the developers offer it the same respect?

Oh , thanks ,  for pointing that out but now its been feature on Wired , This was to illustrate that it made news ,instead of a nasty internal matter that SOE would have prefered.

thanks for letting me know - heres what the WIRED blog had to say

Having Sony Online Entertainment higher-ups acknowledge the issue, then functionally state they made a huge mistake (by removing the involved characters) only further serves to foster ill-will between gamers and the people who control the world they (virtually) live in.

Sadly, now that the cat has been released from its electronic bag, there's no good way to resolve this issue.

MMO players tend toward paranoia about undue developer involvement whenever something doesn't go their way, but now, with the above proof, they're almost guaranteed to blame Sony every time they die, a raid falls apart or a piece of gear doesn't drop for them.

We all can agree that its a mess that comes from an MMO company that would overreact to anyone coming close to breaking their TOS or EULA  and in some cases (like mine) even changes the TOS and EULA candestinely to extend their dominates to unwanted and unruly player customers.

The question is will someone be banned or in this case fired for this favoritism?

Who cares? You guys are taking this way way beyond what it deserves to be. ALL companies do this kind of stuff, not just gaming companies. They favor their employees. Do you really think someone could walk off the street in my hotel and get our honeymoon suite (which normally sells for $249 a night plus tax) for $29 a night plus tax? No, of course not. Yet I did it because I talked to the General Manager and he likes me.

Get over it. No doubt your bosses do the same bloody thing. Whining about it because YOU didn't get the deal someone else did is childish.

I really dont think anyone should get fired for it. Thats a bit much but it will all depend on what SOE's policy on this sort of thing is. Im pretty sure nothing will happen and life will return to normal with SOE learning yet another very public lesson on what not to do or not to let everyone else know you are doing.

As for the guy with the Hotel example Im just wondering if after you got your good deal did you stand out in the lobby and let everyone know about it? Did your manager buddy tell other customers about and say how it was ok because he likes you? If he got caught doing this what would have happened to him? Would the owners of the hotel be ok with it?

Everyone does dirty sh*t from time to time. Whether it is to help out a friend or for your own personal gain. Most of us are smart enough to keep our mouths shut when good things get passed our way. That didnt seem to happen here. Next time you get that hotel room for 29 dollars make sure to tell the guy in the room next to you how much you paid. Think he will make a few phone calls? Think you will ever get that room for 29 dollars again?

Greenhell, where does it seem to you that Sony advertised that they did this for these players, hmmm? nowhere. It was the players themselves, and others who had played on the test server and moaned that they didn't get the same thing as the players who were given the gift, that did it. So stop blaiming SOE for those idiots.

However, people freaked out over nothing so it meant that they HAD to say something even if it was a badly worded attempt at justifying their actions.

As for whether I advertised it in the lobby, no that would have been stupid. I could get fired for that though I definately DID brag to all my family and friends. THEY were all bright enough to understand that THEY wouldn't be able to get the same deal and they didn't moan about it, just congratulated me on my luck. Unlike the people in this game moaning about how they didn't get the same deal like a 5 year old child.

As for "him"... well I'm a girl so I'm definately not a "him" or a "he". The Moirae are the three Greek female fates. The handle is actually an interesting premise if you understand what it is. The long version of it is "What is the fate of the fates?" or "The Moiraes Fate".

The name is MOIRAE, not Murry.
