I have an 8800gt and xp32, even on dx9 the game looks great, and on my pc it plays perfectly on the highest dx9 settings.
The only thing i don't really care for in Lotro is the combat, it isn't that bad but it is a little clunky imo. As far as the graphics go though, can anyone name something that looks better? Maybe VG but only for certain things, and this game is much more polished, professional and smooth.
"4 years old" .....
WoW wasn't even released at that time, you must think that game looks like a ColecoVision port, hehe. What game were you playing 4 years ago!?!
Well you cant really expect the storyline to be just as good as the original books because its a game, but I found wow shallow but ive never found lotro shallow like you do. Sure it could have more depth but its still a good game and who knows how lotro will change in the future and it just might add what you want.
I agree that LOTRo is not the most compelling game. In a way, you get bore faster than in some other games. There is just not much to do after a while.
That said, the game is polished and beautiful, the scenery is sometimes breath taking. Its a casual game, not raid-intensive hard core. Its not cartoonish, nor flamboyant like the Korean games. The lore is quite nicely depicted in the epic quests. There is nothing particularly weak about the game, and is both solo and group playable.
I just find it ridiculous for someone to criticize LOTRo in terms of graphics quality.
I am disturbed this oh so insightful thread now has 8 pages of replies People must be reallllly bored around here!
And I just added to it... time to turn the computer off
I guess you're right, i shouldn't have even wasted my time in this one.
It's just that people come here to give thier opinions of games to inform others who might feel the same way, not just to bash the game but to explain what they don't like about it, maybe even hoping games will avoid the things they don't like in the future so there will be more games that they do like later on. And even people who don't like the game don't like when people go around trash talking games with lies and nonsense and want to give honest opinions so that people like them know what to expect and make good choices when choosing a game to play.

Yeah I agree, as I remarked in my first post here, why am I responding.
Well I wonder if the OP actually played the game. LOTRo's greatest strength is in its graphics. The OP launched an almost empty troll post, and the only negativity he cited specifically, is graphics. Very very stupid way of starting a troll post.
Well you are right, there is nothing worth talking about this thread.
Some of us actually enjoy discussing this to help enlighten others that it isnt true its not a waste of time unless you personally felt that way after you posted, and by the way you just posted in the 8 thread forum no offense but I find that funny.
And I agree it discourages people to possibly try a game they might actually enjoy quite a bit.

Hah, I know... which is why I made a comment about that myself I had just clicked on the thread to read someone's (hopefully informative) view on the game since I have not played it since beta... and found 8 pages of "the graphics suck!" and "the graphics rock!"
Personally, I think the game looks damm good... I just could not get addicted to it despite REALLY wanting to. So, here I am still peeking in
Don't listen to the negative comments said before hand, including mine... especially mine, lol, and just try the game, I think it has a trail and when you have just come back and drop a message, because what one person hates is another persons love.
If your thinking about trying the trial go ahead keep in mind the trial download is very long and painful but you can pause it and etc if need be.
In a ealier post when I was researching and it was about descirbting the game they said pvp and raiding is secondary its not a game about getting to max level its about the journey so if your that kind of gamer then it is probably for you.
To explain it to him I will say this: There are 2 downloads for lotro 1 of them provides low-res gfx the 2nd contains the high-res pack.
I did have the high res pack. And I was playing on Ultra high settings.
The Dwarf starter area looks like complete SHIT plain and simple. That's not an opinion - it's a fact.
Wrong! What you have stated is a an OPINION not a FACT. The FACT that many others do not agree with your OPINION clearly proved that your OPINION is not a FACT after all. Do try to not to confuse one for the other.

LOTRo in ultra-hi setting is gorgeous. I have yet to see a solid reason from the OP apart from totally empty claims. Which part of the dwarven world displeases her? and on what PC is she running that very demanding ultra-hi setting?
Wow, this is still going huh? You guys think there's a chance the OP is trolling more than anything?
And as far as the dwarf starter area, I think it's the least appealing out of all the starting areas. That being said, if you judge the game based off a starting area and only one of the possible 4 starting areas then you have severe issues and no substantial credibility as a critic.
Actually I found LOTRO to be a phenomenal game with well written storylines, excellent character development and interesting and beautiful scenery that really does bring J.R.R. Tolkien's world to life. Many things are just as I had always imagined, others are an acceptable alternative.
I stopped playing because, as always, I can't stand class/level systems. But if those are your thing then this is a top notch game and I just don't get why people insist on trying to bash it. The graphics are quite good, better than many/most other titles available and the plot/story/whatever is good as well. The classes are interesting and they did a great job of sticking to most of the concepts of a tolkien world.
Nothing but good to say about the game except that folks like me who prefer a skill/profession system over a level/class system probably won't like it.

I still fail to understand, why can't most people be mature enough to be able to think they way you do - I guess life would be boring if everyone appreciated each others different ways

imho LOTRO is great for:- 1 Getting up to level max level (50) 2 Graphics 3 Story it is poor in :- 1 Character development at level 50 2 Itemisation at level 50 3 The community is unpleasant. My adivce to anyone would be to give it a go. Enjoy the levelling but expect to drop the game after a month at max level.
Since my character hasn't reached level 50 yet, I cant really comment on items 1 and 2 in your "it is poor in" list. However I am surprised at #3. I've found the community very mature and helpful on my server. Can I ask what server you were on?
1 Character naming. Many people had to change their name in tit for tat complaining between various guilds.
2 Raiders v Rest. Raiders wanted more raids the rest didnt.
3 Lore v Gameplay. eg Many rows about whether we should have a killable Ballrog (even if not actually killed by player action).
4 Hardcore v Casual. There were several threads along the lines of "I pay as much as you so I want to see all the content even though I only play 3 hours a week".
Players making leaving posts were usually given with "shut the door behing you", "can I have your stuff" and other such responses.
Snowbourn in Europe. There was a lot of conflict over:- 1 Character naming. Many people had to change their name in tit for tat complaining between various guilds. 2 Raiders v Rest. I see. We have the same problem on the US Landroval server. I don't really pay much attention to it so I don't know how bad it is with us. Going by your post it sounds pretty bad on Snowbourn and I can now understand why you feel the way you do. Sorry it turned out badly for you.

I have 5 toons in Snowbourn, one Loremaster at lvl 50, alts at 39, 30, 25, 20 you can tell I have put a lot of time into the game.
Still, I can count on one hand, how many immature/unpleasant players I have met.
The community for me is the best. Ever. Period. Maybe I'm just lucky, but whenever I joined a PUG, we have always finished the FS Q we joined for - in many cases, whole chains too
Also - in places like Goblin town, a top level character can find a PUG any time he/she wished to grind items/repu stuff etc
So, it all boils down to personal experience!
Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
What amazes me is that even after all this time, and all the trolls that have come and gone in these forums (for this game and otherwise), blatant attempts at attention grabbing and getting people riled up, like the OP, still work.
Seriously. Is there a single person here who read that first post and thought "Wow, now there's a detailed, well-written, well-reasoned and excellently argued opinion"? I mean, aside from those who look for anything negative to latch on to and then praise it as gospel?
Most Glaring Clue: He's trashing a game widely praised (even by many non-fans) for its graphics... and further... does so entirely based on *one area*. How much more do you need to read to see through this? Everything, from the thread title to the post itself is like text-book Trolling 101.

Although this game disappointed me, I have to admit, that it has the best community I met in mmorpg so far. This and few other things like great graphic, great opinions about performance and stability (very true) and Tolkien’s lore encouraged me to try it out. Unfortunate this game turned out to be an action game with RPG elements… Seriously - good old Diablo have more complex advancement system and more unique armory/weaponry/bestiary than LOTRO.
Everyone in LOTRO looks alike, have abilities on the same level (because abilities level automatically with you), and the trait system, that was advertised as a way to make you feel unique is a joke – eventually everyone will pick up traits best suited for his class and again everyone is the same…
Lately I came back to play Vanguard, and I cannot resist one thought : those two games are totally opposites: Vanguard have very rich and sophisticated world, and very complex RPG content, but technically it was a piece of unplayable junk. LOTRO quite opposite: masterpiece of game-coding, seamless performance, but very shallow in its RPG structure. Fortunately for me after latest patch Vanguard works smooth and stabile… I hope LOTRO will grow in future into more demanding RPG.
This is of course only mine opinion and I didn’t mean to offend anyone. Also sorry for my english ;-/ .

No offense at all Vallador. You tried it out and decided it wasn't what was fun for you. It's perfectly natural that we won't all like the same games.
It will be interesting to see what impact the new changes in book 12 will have with one of the issues that you had with LoTRo. They are implementing the ability to have the look of one piece of armor and keep the stats of a different set of armor. So basically, the only thing stopping people from looking like whatever they want to... will be choice... stats won't be a factor in deciding what you look like!
In that same vein they are also adding "barber shops" to select cities that will allow characters to change their appearance to a more varied selection than was available upon release. It's not entirely known to what extent these changes will allow, but more choices is always a good thing.
Anyway, just wanted to mention that your concerns with the game are not alone and the devs have been listening. They've been doing a great job of interacting with their community and the results of that communication can been seen in almost every update they add to the game. Very impressive.
